JAMES PATRICK "JIM" BAXTER

SHREVEPORT/MONROE, LA - Funeral services for Jim Baxter, age 41, of Monroe will be held at 11 AM, Monday, August 20, 2001 in Centuries Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating will be Rev. Larry Hendrix, Youth Minister of Haynes Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Centuries Memorial Park. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 6 PM at the funeral home.
Jim passed away Wednesday in Monroe. He was a former resident of Shreveport. He has resided in Monroe since 1986 and owned and operated Autobahn Classics. He was a BMW Master Technician. Jim was a beloved father, son and brother.
He is survived by his parents; Charles E. Baxter, Sr. and wife Pattie of Clearwater, FL and Lynda Baxter of Marshall, TX; daughter, Kelly Nicole Baxter and son, Kristopher William Baxter, both of Shreveport; his grandfather, Henry J. DeMott of Bossier City, the mother of his children, Darlene Hays of Shreveport; a sister, Elizabeth Louise Greenwood of Altus, OK; brothers, Dr. Charles E. Baxter, Jr. of Minden and William T. Baxter and wife Elizabeth of Bellvue, WA and a great aunt, Louise Collins of Bossier City.

MATTIE C. WILLIAMS

Mattie C. Williams, 81, was born March 20, 1920 in Lake Village, AR to the late Walter Whitaker and Issie Hill Whitaker, and died August 16, 2001 at West Carroll Memorial Hospital, Oak Grove, LA.
She was a former waitress.
Survivors are daughter: Ethel Prine, Kilbourne, LA; son-in-law: H. R. "Buddy" Prine, Kilbourne, LA; granddaughter: Beth Simmons, Pioneer, LA; granddaughter: Larly Reeves, West Monroe, LA; granddaughter: Lee Dupree, Marion, LA; brother: Robert Whitaker, Wilmott, AR; sister: Ophelia Beard, Monahans, TX; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will Wayne Simmons, David Reeves, Dale Dupree, Brad Kitchens, Byron Corley, and Damian Tilton.
Graveside funeral services will be at Kilbourne cemetery, Saturday, August 18, 2001, at 3:30 P.M. Officiating will be Rev. Jimbo Herring.
Interment will be at Kilbourne cemetery in Kilbourne, LA.

TEMPIE CHEEK EVANS

Services for Mrs. Tempie Cheek Evans, 89, of Monroe, will be 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 19, 2001, in Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William Smith officiating. Burial will be in Gwin cemetery, Mangham.
Mrs. Evans died Friday, August 17, 2001, at her residence. She was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church. Her husband, Louis G. Evans, and son, Bennie J. Evans, Sr. preceded her in death.
Survivors include her sons, Claude Emmett Evans of Monroe and James Louis Evans and his wife, Charlene, of Monroe; daughter-in-law, Betty Jo Evans of Monroe; brothers, Steve K. Cheek and his wife, Juanita, of Calhoun and Leo Cheek of Mangham; 8 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jared Evans, Bennie Evans, Jr., Mugs Cheek, Bill Cheek, Noble Ellington, Jr., Mark Taylor, Druett Taylor, and Bobby Underwood.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Saturday, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Memorials may be made to Lakeshore Baptist Church building fund.

MR. ROBERT E. ELSIE

BASTROP, LA - Services for Mr. Robert E. Elsie, 74, of Bastrop, LA will be at 2 PM Saturday, September 8, 2001 at the Mulhearn Funeral Home Chapel, Sterlington Rd., Monroe with Rev. John Spears and Rev. Sammy Spears officiating. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park cemetery. Mr. Elsie died September 5, 2001 in Bastrop, LA. Mr. Elsie was an exalted ruler with the Elks Club in Tampa, FL. He was preceded in death by two daughters and a sister. Survivors are his wife: Mrs. Mary S. Elsie, twelve children and step-children; brother, Tom Barker; sister, Joyce Boucher; and twenty-three grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM Friday at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the United Way. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Don Hammett for his care and friendship.

REV. JOHN DOTHER (J. D.) WALTERS

WINNSBORO, LA - Rev. John Dother (J. D.) Walters, age 76, of Winnsboro, LA was born in Gilbert, LA on June 8, 1925 to the late Clinton Lafayette Walters and Lucinda Bryant Walters, and died September 5, 2001 at Riverwest Medical Center in Plaquemines, LA. Survivors are his sons: Harold Walters of Lindale, TX; and Larry Walters of Collinston, LA; and daughter: Shirley Sparks of Donaldsonville, LA; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death be his wife Ruth Pauline Sumrall Walters, nine brothers and sisters. Pallbearers will be James H. Fulford, Joe Whatley, Billy Wayne Dartlone, Jay Morgan, Jerry Rester, and Frank Earl Maxwell, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis McVay and James Hudson. Bro. J. D. was a graduate of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in New Orleans and was a long time area Pastor. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was very instrumental in the construction of numerous area churches and schools. Visitation will be from 5-9 PM Friday at Cox Funeral Home-Delhi. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church of Delhi, Saturday, September 8, 2001 at 11 AM. Officiating will be Rev. Pat Loftin and Rev. Everett Geis. Interment will be in Delhi Masonic cemetery, Delhi, LA.

FRED A. "BLACKIE" BLACK

Services for Fred A. "Blackie" Black, 71, of Chatham, LA will be held at 10 AM Saturday, September 8, 2001 at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA with Rev. Joe Solomon and Rev. Homer Bailes officiating. Burial will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park cemetery in Monroe, LA. Mr. Black died Thursday, September 6, 2001 at St. Francis Medical Center following a lengthy illness. Mr. Black was a member of Lea Joyner United Methodist Church and a supporter of Smith Branch Chapel. He was a retired member of I.B.E.W. Local #446 and an Air Force Veteran. Blackie was an Industrial Electrician, and an extra special Pa-Paw. Survivors are his wife: Marilyn Black of Chatham, LA; daughter: Aliscia Ann and her husband, Steve Banks of Monroe, LA; two sons: Bruce A. Black and his wife, Rhonda of Monroe, LA; and Brent A. Black of Hebert, LA; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and one sister: Louise Hargrove of Lake Charles, LA. Pallbearers will be Johnny Hargrove, Lawrence Parker, Jack Yarbrough, Ewell Nettles, Harold Roberts, and Rev. Charles Lutrick. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 8 PM on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Smith Branch Chapel on Caney Lake at Chatham, LA 71226.

JOYCE BAKER BISCOMB

RUSTON, LA - Services for Joyce Baker Biscomb, 82, of Ruston, LA were held at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 6, 2001 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer with Father Ned Head officiating. Interment was held in Pines Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Biscomb died Wednesday, September 5, 2001 at The Arbor House of Ruston. Mrs. Biscomb was preceded in death by her husband George Biscomb, and daughter Barbara Biscomb McCullin. Survivors are three children: twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; son-in-law: Bill McCullin of Ruston; Beverlee Biscomb James and husband, John Tom of Ruston; Troy Biscomb and wife, Angie of Ruston; Kiki Biscomb Wardlaw and husband, Chastain of Ruston. Grandsons served as pallbearers. Mrs. Biscomb's family requests that any planned memorials be made to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, or the charity of your choice. Family received friends Wednesday, September 5, 2001 from 5 - 7 PM.

LOUISE WILLIAMS EWING

Louise Williams Ewing, age 88, of Quitman, Louisiana passed away on September 5th* following a lengthy illness. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Lew Ewing; her children Terry and Donna Ewing, Randy and Rosemary Ewing; grandchildren Ashley and Wendell Manning, Brandon and Susan Ewing, Amy Ewing, Brad and Becky Ewing, and Adam Ewing; and six great grandchildren, Allison Rosemary and Bess Anne Ewing, Margaret Louise and Jefferson Manning, and Barton and Maggie Ewing. She is also survived by one sister, Mildred W. Reeves of Shreveport. Louise, called Topper by most, will be remembered as a sweet lady, independent and yet unselfish, with the soft, warm smile and twinkling eyes who like so many of this "great generation" gave her life to her family, her church, her friends and her community. She led a life of unconditional love in all the roles she played whether as a wife, mother, grandmother, cub scout den mother, Sunday school and church worker, volunteer at the hospital, first grade school teacher, or neighbor. She genuinely cared for people and involved herself in our lives. A celebration of the life of Louise Williams Ewing and the joy of her life represented will be held at the Jonesboro United Methodist Church in Jonesboro, Louisiana at 2 PM, Friday, September 7th. Interment will be at the Jimmie Davis Tabernacle cemetery. The services will be conducted by Rev. Wayne Howington and Dr. Doug McGuire. Pallbearers will be grandsons Brandon Ewing, Brad Ewing, Adam Ewing and Wendell Manning and nephews Steve Reeves and Stewart Harrison. Visitation will be from noon until 2 PM prior to the services at the church. The family requests memorials be made either to the Jonesboro United Methodist Church, 402 4th Street, Jonesboro 71251 or to the Methodist Childrens Home, 901 S. Vienna St. Ruston, LA 71270.

CLEO NYEGAARD EDWARDS

FARMERVILLE, LA - Services for Cleo Nyegaard Edwards, 88, of Farmerville, LA will be at 2 PM Sunday, October 14, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. William Cottrell officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Hill cemetery - Taylor under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Farmerville, LA.
Mrs. Edwards died Thursday, October 11, 2001 in Farmerville, LA following a brief illness.
Mrs. Edwards was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Rubin Gray Edwards, daughter, Patsy Nale and husband, Harvey Nale, son, Johnny Edwards, daughter-in-law, Patricia Edwards, and brother, Dillard Nyegaard.
Survivors are sons: Melton Gray Edwards; Jerry "Bo" Edwards and wife, Susan; daughter: Reba Albritton and husband, Rex; daughter-in-law: LaJune Edwards; and sister-in-law: Mary Edwards, all of Farmerville; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Ricky Cobb, Gary Cobb, Eddie Albritton, Michael Albritton, Charles Edwards, Greg Edwards, Philip Edwards, and Eric Edwards.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Nyegaard, Ceismond Nyegaard, Don Nyegaard, , and Ernest Nyegaard.
Family will receive friends from 5 PM until 9 PM Saturday, October 13, 2001 at the funeral home.

MR. WILLIAM A. HAYWOOD

Services for Mr. William A. Haywood, 77, of Calhoun, LA will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Kilpatrick Funeral Home Chapel, West Monroe with Rev. Neil Everett and Rev. Doug Massey officiating. Interment will be in Monroe Memorial Park, Monroe, LA under the direction of Kilpatrick's in West Monroe.
Mr. Haywood died Friday, October 12, 2001 in West Monroe, LA.
Mr. Haywood was a member of Central Baptist Church. He retired as a law enforcement officer after 32 years of service. Mr. Haywood served in the Army and Navy during WWII.
Survivors are his wife: Eloise Haywood; son: William B. Haywood and wife, Betty; four grandchildren: William Todd Haywood; Janey Harris; Jason B. Haywood and wife, Sherrye; and Brandy Lee Haywood; two step great-grandchildren; one sister: Marie Lee; and one brother: Sam Haywood; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time at Kilpatrick Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.

DON CARAWAY

Services for Don Caraway, age 55, of Ruston, will be conducted at 10:00 AM Monday, October 15, 2001 at Ansley Union Church in Ansley, LA with Bro. Larry Hatcher and Bro. Les Webb officiating. Interment will be in Ansley cemetery, under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Ruston.
Mr. Caraway died Saturday, October 13, 2001 at Lincoln General Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was a member of Ansley Union Church, and was a retired police officer and assigned to Lincoln Parish TRIAD.
Survivors include his wife: Elizabeth of 20 years; parents: Morris and Berky Caraway of Ruston; two sons: Darrell Caraway and wife Kathy, and Timothy Caraway, both of Ruston; four daughters: Natalie Taylor and husband Micheal of Quitman, Jennifer Davis and husband Timothy of Choudrant, Jamie Willis and husband Scott of West Monroe and Emily Caraway of Ruston and seven grandchildren; one brother: Larry Caraway of Ruston.
Visitation will be 2:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday, October 14, 2001 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Judes or Ansley Union Church.
