WILLIE BARNES PARKER

PONCHATOULA - Willie Barnes Parker, 74, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.

She was a native of Ponchatoula.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Jermyn, Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Robert "Bobby" and Ronnie Parker, Ponchatoula; sister, Sadie Motichek, Madisonville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Philip Parker; sister, Nathalie Davis; and brother, Teroy Barnes, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, tonight from 6 to 10 and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Ponchatoula cemetery.

HELEN EILEEN TRIMBLE POLK

PONCHATOULA - Helen Eileen Trimble Polk, 62, died May 9, 2000, at North Oaks Medical Center.

She was a native of New Brighton, Penn.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Melvin Polk; two children, Christopher Polk and Diana Polk Giles, all of Ponchatoula; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild; four sisters, Jo Anne Brewer and Velma Barnes, Erie, Penn., Pat Theiss, Florida, Margie Voelkel, Ponchatoula; and two brothers, Don Trimble, Phoenix, and Jim Trimble, Tucson, Ariz.

Her parents, Virgil and Yetta Brookhart Trimble, preceded her in death.

MAUDIE RUSHING BAZILE

SPRINGFIELD - Maudie Rushing Bazile, 76, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at North Oaks Medical Center.

She was a native of Springfield.

Survivors include her husband, Freddie Bazile; three sons, Freddie Jackie Bazile, Baptist, Michael John Bazile Sr., Ponchatoula, Mervin John Bazile Sr., Springfield; three daughters, Marie Bazile Rodriguez and Janice Bazile Landry, Springfield, Linda Bazile Triche, Ponchatoula; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Huey Magee, Jefferson, Charles Magee, Albuquerque, N.M.

A sister, Christine Novitsky; and two brothers, Scott Rushing and Sammy Ray Magee, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, tonight from 6 to 10 and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11:30. Burial will be in Carter cemetery.

KENNETH CARTER SYKES

KILLIAN - Kenneth Carter Sykes, 59, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, in Killian.

He was a native of Holden, and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Survivors include his former wife, Cheryl Scott Sykes, Springfield; three daughters, Belinda Soley, Springfield, Barbara Sykes, Rockville, Conn., and Charlotte White, Springfield; son, Jason Sykes, Springfield; four foster children, Linda Minchew and Melanie Threeton, Springfield, Rebecca Threeton, Covington, and Norma Jean Threeton, Virginia; sister, Helen Timberlake, Killian; three brothers, J.L., C.V. and Huey Sykes, all of Holden; and 11 grandchildren.

His parents, Robert and Mary Hoyt Sykes; and a brother, R.B. Sykes, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be at Faith Apostolic Church, Holden, Thursday from 6 to 10 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11. Burial will be in First Baptist Church cemetery, Killian.

Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.

Ila Mae Lanusse

Funeral services for Mrs. Ila Mae "Pate" Lanusse, 82, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas with burial in Bellevue Memorial Park.

The Rev. Eugene Tremie will conduct the services.

Mrs. Lanusse, a resident of Houston, Texas, formerly of Opelousas and a native of Glenmora, died at 9:44 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2001, in Vendor North West Hospital in Houston, Texas.

Survivors include: a son, Charles Lanusse and his wife Paula R. of Ashland, Ore.; a daughter, Terry Dupre and her husband Ronald Charles of Houston, Texas; a sister, Vera Flanders of Glenmora; and four grandchildren, Pierre Lanusse of Lafayette, Charles Lanusse III of Ashland, Ore., and Mindy Dupre and Joseph Dupre, both of Marshall, Texas.

Mrs. Lanusse was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbur C. Lanusse; her parents, Elijah Pate and Carrie Lee Pate.

Visiting hours will be observed from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 10 a.m. Friday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home on the Old Sunset Road in Opelousas is in charge of arrangements.

Roland Marcantel

Funeral services for Mr. Roland J. Marcantel, 81, will be held (time pending) Thursday in Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home Chapel-South in Opelousas with burial in Pythian Mausoleum in Bunkie.

Mr. Marcantel, a resident of Nuba, died at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 2001, at his residence. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator. Mr. Marcantel was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Navy and a member of the International and Local Union of Operating Engineers.

Survivors include: a son, Dale Marcantel of Faubourg; three daughters, Barbara Lipoma of Duplessie, Gale Stanford and her husband J.R. of Kaplan, and Lynn Steno of Lafayette; a brother, Elvin Marcantel of Westlake; three sisters, Vernice Taylor and Hazel Morain, both of Baton Rouge, and Winnie Zito of Westlake; 13 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Marcantel was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae Dupre Marcantel; a son, Glynn Marcantel; and his parents, Eddie and Leiah Fruge Marcantel.

Visiting hours will be observed from 5 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. Thursday until time of services.

Vories Moreau

BASILE - Funeral services for Mr. Vories Moreau, 75, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in St. Augustine Catholic Church here with burial in the church mausoleum.

The Rev. Kenneth Domingue will conduct the services.

Mr. Moreau, a resident of Opelousas, formerly of Basile, died at 6:20 a.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in the Medical Center of S.W. Louisiana in Lafayette. He was a retired voting machine technician. Mr. Moreau was active in the Courier De Mardi Gras and also in promoting French music. He was also an avid hunter and well known for the training of squirrel dogs.

Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Joyce Chapman Moreau of Opelousas; two sons, Vories Wayne Moreau of Hayes and Kerry Kim Moreau of Hattisburg, Miss.; a daughter, Mrs. Renella Faye Yoder of Moss Bluff; a brother, Clifford Moreau of Mamou; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Anita) Perrotti of Sulphur; four grandchildren, Shane McGee of Basile, Monique Moreau of Leesville, Shannon Moreau of Hayes and Brandon Moreau of Basile; five great-grandchildren; and is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be observed from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. Friday until time of services. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Ardoin's Funeral Home of Eunice is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Trahan

ARNAUDVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Rosalie Trahan, 58, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Francis Regis Catholic Church here with burial in St. Charles cemetery in Grand Coteau.

Mrs. Trahan, a resident of Arnaudville, died Monday, April 2, 2001, at her residence.

Survivors include: her husband, Jean Trahan of Arnaudville; two sons, Alvin Ray Trahan and Joseph Trahan, both of Arnaudville; two brothers, Nolan Bernard of Leonville and Sidney Bernard of Cecilia; five sisters, Leona Lagrange, Blondie Kidder, Hilda Bernard and Milda Angelle, all of Arnaudville, and Verbie Brasseaux of Carencro; and two grandchildren, Joseph Edward Trahan and Baylin Mikal Trahan.

Mrs. Trahan was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Bernard; her mother, Edna Stelly Bernard; a brother, Paul Bernard; and a niece, Vicki Quebedeaux.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Trahan, Alvin Trahan, Mike Bernard, Ernest Bernard, Nolan Bernard and Ronald Stelly. Honorary pallbearers will be Jean Trahan, Joshua Trahan and Baylin Trahan.

Visiting hours were observed from 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, and will be observed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 7 a.m. Thursday until time of services in Pellerin Funeral Home in Arnaudville, which is in charge of arrangements.

TORRENCE, SR. ROOSEVELT "SONNY MAN"

A former laborer, he died Friday, July 25, 2003, at his residence in Napoleonville.

He was 64 and a native of Magnolia, Miss.

Visiting at St. Paul Baptist Church, Napoleonville, from 10 a.m. Saturday until religious service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. David Gilton. Burial in church cemetery.

Survived by his wife, Iola Torrence; two daughters, Phyllis Smith Wiggins of Napoleonville and Sharleen Boyd of Thibodaux; three sons, Roosevelt Torrence Jr. of El Paso, Texas, Troy Torrence of Las Vegas, and Carl Torrence of Napoleonville; five sisters, Josephine Isaac, Luberda Nathaniel, Lula Burton, Carolyn Torrence and Dorothy Tunson; two brothers, Clarence and Grover Torrence Jr.; a stepbrother, Charlie Watson; 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

preceded in death by his parents, Georgia and Grover Torrence Sr.; two brothers and a sister.

WILLIAMS, ALEXANDER

A retired laborer with Stupp Corp. and a resident of Baker, he died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at his home.

He was 79 and a native of St. Francisville.

Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home, 7221 Plank Road, from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until religious service at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Briscoe Pierre. Interment in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Baker.

He is survived by his daughter, Flordine Williams; a devoted nephew, Donald Kyer; a devoted great-niece, Lenail Sims; and four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

WILSON, BESSIE SMITH

Bessie Smith Wilson was born on Nov. 23, 1935, to the parentage of Anna Brady and Isaac Smith of Sorrento.

She departed this life on Tuesday, July 29, 2003, in Baton Rouge.

Bessie Smith Wilson was baptized at Jeremiah Baptist Church and later joined the Christian Assembly, where she served in the choir.

She was a teacher's aide with Ascension Parish school system for 25 years.

Bessie Smith Wilson was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her husband of 46 years, James Wilson Jr.; four daughters and sons-in-law, Marilyn and Herbert Foster, Carolyn and Gregory Brown and Wanda and Darryl Coleman, all of Sorrento, and Stephanie and John Heatly, Baton Rouge; and two sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Andrea Wilson and James III and Janice Wilson, all of Sorrento.

She has 15 grandchildren and one expected; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Theresa Kelson and Augustine Wilson; three brothers, James, Henry and John Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Cloyd L. Wilson.

Funeral service at Christian Assembly Full Gospel Church, Gonzales, at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2003, with the Rev. Richard Rayborn Sr. officiating.
