Herbert Werfel

Age 77, a native of Rockville Centre, New York and resident of Hammond, Herbert Passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

Hebert is survived by his wife, Margaret Werfel; two daughters, Lisa Moore and husband David, Tamara Schmeer and husband Dave Hinspater; one grandson, Jordan Schmeer, along with many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Sussman.

A graveside service was held at James M. Thompson Cemetery, west of Hammond, on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.

The family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Herbert to IWMF (Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia), 3932D Swift Rd., Sarasota, FL 34231.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home of Hammond.

Peggy Jean Stewart April

Peggy Jean Stewart April -Born July 11, 1934 and entered the Kingdom of Heaven on July 20, 2009. Born in Statesville, N.C., & lived in Metairie for many years before becoming a long-time resident of Ponchatoula , La. She was one of three children born to the late Brooks P. and Bessie M. Stewart and the beloved wife of John C. April for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Bobbie Michel and one brother Brooks P. Stewart, Jr.

Peggy was a devoted and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will forever be remembered by her beloved children Glenda April Castro, Janice April (Williams), Jonda April Hamilton, and John T. April, loving son-in-laws Henry Castro, Jr, and Richard Hamilton and one daughter-in-law Sonya M. April. She treasured her five grandchildren Heather Williams, Jennifer Williams Hebert, Kyle Castro, Lauren April, Alexis Hamilton & one great-grandson Tyler Hebert. She had countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. She was a former preschool and Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout leader, member of the Robert Beavers Homemakers Club, the Ponchatoula Gardenettes and Celebration Fellowship Church. She will also be remembered for being an avid sportsman, having played and excelled in sports for many years.

Services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula, La from 6:00pm until 9:00pm and 9am-11am on Saturday July 25, 2009 at Celebration Fellowship Church with the service beginning at 11:00pm. Friends and family are invited to attend.

Anita Rose Cureton

Anita Rose Cureton, 41 years old of Hammond, LA and a native of Bryan, Texas , died Sunday, July 19, 2009, in North Oaks Medical Center. She was born on July 11, 1968, in Bryan, Texas .

Survivors include her husband, Jesse Baham III; son, Nicholas Baham; son & daughter-in-law, Hank & Evelyn Baham; daughter, Jessica Baham; 2 brothers, Byron Cureton, Walter King; 4 sisters, Rebecca Rheams, Serita Pearson, Darlene Evans, Yvonne Chisolm; 3 stepchildren, Allan Baham, Jesse Baham IV, Sheneva Baham; 2 grandchildren, Kelsi and Elijah; also numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Gene Cureton & Hilda King. Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond, Louisiana on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with services at 7:00 p.m in the funeral home chapel. Also, graveside services will be held at Briar Patch Cemetery in Loranger, Louisiana on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.

Angela Mahl Woods

Mrs. Angela Mahl Woods , 75 years old of Hammond, Louisiana , died Saturday, July 18, 2009, in North Oaks Medical Center.

She was born on Saturday, June 16, 1934, in New London, Ohio, daughter of the late Linus and Cecelia Gross Mahl.

Surviving are her son & daughter-in-law, Mark and Susan Woods ; sister, Lillian M. Paolo; 2 brothers, Vincent Mahl, John Mahl; and a nephew, William Paredes.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Howard Woods and brothers, Robert & Benjamin Mahl.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 10:00 am.

Elsie Ruth Lee

Elsie Ruth Lee, "Doodie" to her loved ones, was born on September 2, 1931, in New Orleans, LA and Passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at her home in Independence. She lived a life of caring for others. Elsie lived with her beloved parents in Ponchatoula until her father's death in 1961 and her mother's death in 1976. She then came to live with her sister, Rosina, in Independence. Elsie became a member of the First Baptist Church in Independence, where she took care of the children in the nursery during services for over twenty years. She loved them all as family.

She is survived by two sisters, Rosina Anzalone of Independence and Audrey Varisco of Baton Rouge. She loved her 11 nieces and nephews and 25 great-nieces and great-nephews with a grandmother's heart, as she had no children of her own.

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Johnnie and Lula Lee; brother, Richard Lee; nephew, Ronnie Anzalone; brothers-in-law, Sam Anzalone and Sal Varisco; sister-in-law, Louise Lee.

Friends will be received Saturday, July 25, 2009, from 10:00 am until the service begins at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Independence with Rev. Mitch Williams officiating.

interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery.

Oresta Traylor Morales

Mrs. Oresta Traylor Morales, 72 years old of Tickfaw, died Thursday, July 23, 2009, at her residence.

She was born on Tuesday, May 18, 1937, in Pumpkin Center, daughter of the late Vivian H. and Thelma Forrest Traylor.

Surviving are her daughter, Rebecca Jo Hayes; son, Rodney Joseph Morales; 6 grandchildren, Joseph Voiselle, Dominick Morales, Jarred Morales, Joshua Morgan, Cole Hayes, Meagan Hayes; and her sister, Gloria Traylor.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Morales and an infant brother.

Friends will be received Sunday, July 26, 2009, from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at 1:00 pm, with Dr. Rodney Taylor officiating.

interment will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hammond.

Willard Lynn Crowe

Died at 6:29 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2009 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was a native of Magnolia, MS and a resident of Independence, LA. Age 56 years. Visitation at Wilmer Missionary Baptist Church, Wilmer, from 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Sunday and from 8 a.m. until religious services at 10 a.m. Monday. Services conducted by Rev. Jason Skipper. interment Wilmer Cemetery, Wilmer, LA. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Michelle Howes and her husband, Keith, Ponchatoula and Monica Crowe, Hammond; a son, Kevin Lynn Crowe, Sr. and his wife, Michelle, Loranger; 4 grandchildren, Brittany and Katie Howes, and Kevin, Jr. and Megan Crowe; 2 sisters, Paula Crowe, Amite and Cindy Crowe, Amite; 4 brothers, Gordon Crowe, Jr., Hammond, Lanny Crowe, Amite, Darrell Crowe, Loranger and Gayland Crowe, Kentwood; numerous nieces and nephews including a very special nephew, Brayden Lee, Amite. He was preceded in death by parents, Gordon Martin Crowe, Sr. and Joyce Cutrer Crowe. McKneely Funeral Home of Amite and Kentwood, Inc.

Ayin Gabriel Cassel

Beloved son of Todd and Stacey Adams Cassel will be buried at 10am on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Masonic Cemetery in Clinton conducted by Rev. Patsy Nell Lyle.

"Ay" is the silent letter in the Hebrew alphabet which translates into the "Eyes of God" watching over his people.

He is also survived by his brothers, Jacob Cassel and Braeden Adams.

Aunts and Uncles, Lori & Mike Hopwood, Layne Adams and Mike and Stacy Cassel.

Cousins, Garrett, Matthew and Jenna Hopwood, Ethan Cassel and Matthew Bridges.

He is preceded in death by his uncle, Charles "Bryan" Adams.

Tommy Ray Fabre

Tommy Ray Fabre, 45 years old, born on February 29, 1964. He Passed away at his home on Saturday, July 18, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Pamela Taylor Fabre; a son, Tyler McDuffie; 2 step-sons, Blayne and Dylan Kyzar; 3 brothers, Billy, Timmy, and Danny Fabre; and a sister, Patricia Wheat.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bill & Loucretia Keen Fabre; sister, Marsha Albin; and brother, Bruce Fabre.

Services will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at the Faith Apostolic Pentecostal Church in Holden from 9:00 a.m. until services begin at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Marlin Arceneaux officiating.

interment will follow in Twin Pines Cemetery, Holden, Louisiana .

David Wayne Johnson , Jr.

David Wayne Johnson , Jr. , age 39, died on July 19, 2009 in Plaquemine. He was a native of Gainsville, GA and a resident of Ponchatoula. Mr. Johnson was a Operations Manager for Aquilex / Hydrochem. Survivors include his wife, Becky Foster Johnson ; 2 daughters, Christian and Kimberly Johnson ; son, Cody Johnson ; father, David W. Johnson , Sr.; mother, Jimmie Lou Carney; sisters, Denise Cagle and Tracy Turpin and brother, Robert Carney, Jr. He was also survived by his former step-father, Bill Spangler. Geisler Funeral Home of Ponchatoula in charge of arrangements. Online .

Wiley W. Martin, Jr.

Wiley W. Martin, Jr., 84 years old, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at his home in Maurepas.

He was born on Tuesday, June 16, 1925, in New Orleans.

Mr. Martin served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the Carpenters Local Union 1098.

Surviving are his 2 sons & daughters-in-law, Daniel and Mona Martin, and Royal Jr. and Hazel Delatte; 4 grandchildren, Corey Delatte, Karen Delatte, Wendi Martin Barnes, and Mikki Martin Kelley; great-grandchild, Jordynn Delatte; sister, Essie Penalber; and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Rosamond Bazile Martin; parents, Lena Albert and Wiley W. Martin, Sr.; and 5 sisters, Lela Goff, Ester Buchanan, Dora Reus, Iola Baker, and Mary Farrial.

Friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula on Monday, July 20, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and Tuesday, July 21, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:00 a.m.

interment will follow in the Maurepas Cemetery in Maurepas.
