Bennie Gaylen Simmons

Bennie Gaylen Simmons a loving father, grandfather and friend was born February 1, 1941 and Passed away at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Ochsner Hospital, Elmwood, Harahan, LA. Bennie was 68, and a native and resident of Line Creek, LA. He was retired from the Tangipahoa Parish Government as Road Superintendent after 23 years, a member of Springview Country Club and a Dairy Farmer all of his life.

Visitation will be held at the Line Creek Baptist Church, Kentwood, on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until Religious Services at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Merlin McCon and Rev. Ken Irvin officiating. interment at the Line Creek Cemetery.

Bennie is survived by 2 sons, Bennie Scott Simmons and wife, Debbie, and William Brent Simmons, and wife, Beth, both of Kentwood; a brother, I. W. Simmons, Jr. and wife, Peggy, Kentwood; special friend and fianc/ Mary Wilkinson, Loranger; 7 grandchildren, Christie Taylor and husband, David , Crystal Morgan and husband, Heath, Renee’ Simmons, Laken Simmons, Alex Leon Simmons, Steven Scott Simmons, & Koley Scott Simmons; 4 great grandchildren, Emilee Taylor , Lauren Taylor , Taylor Morgan & Nicholis Scott Major Simmons; nephews, I.W. Simmons, III, H. Wayne Simmons and wife, Lisa, and Jeffrey Wendell Simmons and wife, Ginger; great nephews, Kevin Simmons and Jeff Simmons; great nieces, Kristin Simmons and Chelsea Simmons, 2 step-children, Julie Peek and husband Brandon, Loranger and Beth Ensign and husband Edwin, Loranger; 4 step-grandchildren, Jacie Stogner, John Stogner, Eddie Ensign & Maddie Ensign.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Iley W. & Bennie Mae Swearingen Simmons and a sister, Joyce Yvonne Simmons.

Pallbearers will be David Taylor , Heath Morgan, Wesley Travis, Alex Simmons, Steven Simmons, Koley Simmons, Kynan Carlin, Nelson Lea, Pierce Miller, Mason Simmons, Sam L. Cutrer, H. Wayne Simmons, Wendell Simmons, & Wilkie Simmons.

The family would like to thank the Doctors & Staff of Ochsner Foundation and North Oak Medical Center who provided such excellent care and also the Tangipahoa Parish Government.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Line Creek Baptist Church, 78659 Hwy 1053, Kentwood, LA 70444

Ora Nell Thompson Farris

Ora Nell Thompson Farris, 75 years old of Hammond, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Monday, July 20, 2009, in North Oaks Medical Center.

She was born on Wednesday, May 9, 1934, in Hammond, daughter of the late William and Veva Gatlin Thompson.

Surviving are her 2 sons, Peter "Pat" Farris Jr. and his wife Tracy, DeWayne Thompson and his wife Alice; 3 daughters, Mary Ann Farris and her friend Bobby Kiss, Debbie Efferson and her husband Donny, Pam Fisher; 4 grandchildren, Georgette Arthur Petitto and her husband Joe, Hunter Efferson and his wife Jessica, Justin Parent and his wife Jennifer, Haley Fisher; 3 great-grandchildren, Kathryn Kernop, Raygan Efferson, Sean Patrick Efferson; 2 brothers, Louis Thompson, and Fost "Rootbeer" Thompson.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Peter Patrick Farris Sr. and brothers, Lucius, Brent, Newman, Warren, George Thompson and one infant brother.

Friends will be received Wednesday, July 22, 2009, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm and on Thursday, July 23, 2009 from 8:00 am until 10:15 am at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

Services will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Thursday, July 23, 2009, at 10:30 am, with Fr. Cayet Mangiaracina, O.P. officiating.

interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Hammond.

Herbert Werfel

Age 77, a native of Rockville Centre, New York and resident of Hammond, Herbert Passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

Hebert is survived by his wife, Margaret Werfel; two daughters, Lisa Moore and husband David, Tamara Schmeer and husband Dave Hinspater; one grandson, Jordan Schmeer, along with many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Elaine Sussman.

A graveside service was held at James M. Thompson Cemetery, west of Hammond, on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:00 a.m.

The family requests that donations be made in memory of Mr. Herbert to IWMF (Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia), 3932D Swift Rd., Sarasota, FL 34231.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home of Hammond.

Jennie Belle Cutrer Breeden

Died at 1:15AM on Saturday, July 18, 2009 at St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg, LA. She was a native of Osyka, MS and a resident of Liverpool, LA. Age 87 years.

She was a member of Days United Methodist Church, Liverpool and Order of the Eastern Star.

Visitation at Day's United Methodist Church, Liverpool, from 9 a.m. on Monday until religious services at 11 a.m. Monday. Services conducted by Dr. Ralph Ford. interment Day's Cemetery, Greensburg, LA .

Survived by 2 sons, Steve I. Varnado and his wife, Sandra, Greenwell Springs, Jimmie W. Varnado, M.D. and his wife, Peggy, Greensburg, 5 grandchildren, Mike Varnado and his wife, Shelly, Denham Springs, Sheri Varnado Beck and her husband, Michael, Herlong, CA, Angie Varnado Ray and her husband, Billy, Ponchatoula, Jason Varnado, D.D.S. and his wife, Kelsea, New Iberia, Anjanette Varnado Johnson , M.D. and her husband, J.J., Hammond, great-grandchildren, Sarah, Macy and Ashely Varnado, Elisha, Shaina and Carissa Beck, Luke Ray, and Adeline and Grayson Varnado, sister, Minnie Wall, Gillsburg, devoted friend, Tom McCaa, Liverpool.

Preceded in death by her husband, Laurie L. Breeden, parents, George Washington and Carrie Spears Cutrer, 3 brothers, Roy Cutrer, Claude Cutrer and Floyd Cutrer, sister, Martha Alford and Mary Dickey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Day’s United Methodist Church, c/o Sharon Hornsby, 113 Yarborough Lane, Greensburg, LA 70441.

Travis Hayes

Age 45 and a resident of Tickfaw, Travis Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2009. He was retired from the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office having served 20 years.

Travis is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 11 years, Yvonne Hayes; two sons, Tracy Martin, Jr. & wife Amy, Bradley Martin and wife Cathie; two grandsons, Zach and Ben Posey. He is also survived by eight brothers, Jim Hayes Jr. and wife Jessie, Ray Hayes Sr., Benny Hayes and wife Dana, Steve Hayes Sr., John Hayes Sr. and wife Julia, David Hayes and wife Pauline, Billy Hayes, Mark Hayes and wife Jane; a sister Jessie Hayes and her longtime companion Charlie, along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Carmele Bankston Hayes, father, Jim Hayes and a nephew John Calvin Hayes, Jr.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond on Monday, June 22, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the funeral service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Leon Dunn.

Rex B. Garon

Age 76 and a resident of Ponchatoula, Mr. Rex Passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 at his residence. Although his family was most important in his life, he also enjoyed fishing and most recently playing golf. Mr. Rex was a member of Old Zion Hill Baptist Church where he served as deacon, a master mason of the Independence Masonic Lodge #458 and was a member of the Albany Masonic Lodge #466. He was a longtime music director for Old Zion Hill Baptist Church and a music director for seven years for Independence First Baptist Church. Mr. Rex proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine Garon; his children, Duane Garon and wife Vickie, Dale Garon, Peggy Garon, Lori Garon, Tim Garon and wife Laura, Richard Garon and wife Monette, along with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Rex was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Garon; 2nd wife, Helen Hoover-Garon; siblings, Ivy Garon, Albert Garon and Mable Garon; father, Frank Garon and mother Velma Blount and husband C.D. Blount.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond, on Friday, June 19, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a Masonic service scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, June 20, 2009 beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Joe Wiggins. interment will follow in Old Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lula B. Oliver Parker

Lula B. Oliver Parker, 60, a native of Brookhaven, MS and resident of Hammond, died June 12, 2009 at North Oaks Medical Center.

She is survived by daughters Felicia Oliver and Julia Parker; sons Matt Anthony Parker, Jr. and Albert Howard Parker. She is also survived by two sisters: Charlestine M. Greely of Altanta, GA and Carla C. Short of Brookhaven, MS. She is also survived by seven brothers: Jessie "Sonny" Oliver of Springfield and Lee Edward McGee, Johnny McGee, Ernest Chapman, Joseph McGee, Charley McGee, Rev, Charlie A. Chapman, all of Hammond. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by mother Lula Mae McGee, father A.O. Oliver, 2 sisters: Patricia McGee and Dorothy Oliver, 2 brothers: Freddie McGee, Willie Oliver and James "Cooter" Oliver, grandchild Allen Jerome Parker and great-grandchild Jeremiah Jerome White .

The funeral will be at Redemption Christian Center in Hammond at 10 a.m. on June 20, 2009. It will be conducted by Bishop Curtis Bellezar.

interment will be in Holly Gardens Cemetery. N.A. James Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Martin Arnone Sr.

Joseph Martin Arnone Sr., 63 years old of Independence, LA, died Saturday, June 20, 2009.

Joseph was born on Monday, January 21, 1946, in New Orleans.

Surviving are wife, Linda Borja Arnone; son & daughter-in-law, Joseph Arnone Jr. and Maria Arnone; daughter & son-in-law, Dawn Treuting and Rob Treuting; sister, JoAnn Corley; grandchildren, Robert and Patrick Treuting, Ana, Kristina, Matthew and Michael Arnone.

He is preceded in death by parents, James Louis Arnone Sr., and Marie Caldorera Arnone; son, David Murray; brother, Jimmy Arnone.

Friends will be received Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M., and on Wednesday from 8:00 A.M. until services.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel, Wednesday, June 24, 2009 at 10:00 A.M.

interment will follow in the Colonial Cemetery, Independence, Louisiana 70443.

Robert Dominguez Jr.

Robert Dominguez, Jr., known as "Junior" and "Red" to his friends Passed away June 19, 2009 at his residence. After a brave battle with cancer, he spent his final hours surrounded by family at his home in Ponchatoula, Louisiana .

Robert was born in Ponchatoula, Louisiana in May of 1930 to Robert and Clarice Harper Dominguez.

Robert valiantly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War receiving several medals of Honor including the Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. After the military, Robert made his living as an underground telephone cable installer and retired in 1992.

Robert enjoyed fishing and hunting. He grew an award worthy garden including tomatoes, peppers and eggplant. Cajun or country classics were played on the boom box at family gatherings.

Robert is survived by his wife, Rosa Phillips Dominquez; children, Beverly Perilloux and her husband Barry, Danny Ray Phillips and his wife Holly, Cheryl Edmonston and her fianc/ Hector Trochez and Michael Dominguez; daughter in law, Tammy Dominguez; grandchildren, Heather Lallo and her husband Ray, Danielle Phillips, James Perilloux, Robert Dominguez, Tiffany DiMarco and her husband Davey; great grandchildren, Willis Fontenot and Jaida DiMarco; brothers, Dudley Dominguez, Lloyd Ray Dominguez and his wife Carol, Charles Dominguez and his wife Sheila, Thomas Edwin Dominguez and his wife Betty.

Robert was preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy Simmons Dominguez, his brother Gerald Dominguez and sister in law, Shirley Brown Dominguez.

Friends will be received Monday, June 22, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 12:00 noon at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula.

interment will follow in Mitchell Cemetery in Ponchatoula.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to North Oaks Hospice.
