Mary Lou Landry Riviere
Mary Lou Landry Riviere, 82, of Hammond, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at her home. She was born, April 10, 1927, in Hammond, LA.
Mrs. Riviere was an avid bridge player and loved LSU football & baseball.
She was retired from the Hammond Daily Star after 22 years.
She was a graduate of Hammond High School and she graduated from Louisiana State University in 1949.
Surviving are her 3 daughters, Ren/ Amond, Andr/ Samson and her husband Jeff, and Jaun/ Lamonaca and her husband Caesar; 1 sister, Betty Landry Loupe; 4 grandchildren, Eric Samson, Laura Lamonaca, Bryce Amond, and Leigh Lamonaca; 2 great-grandchildren, Brody and Baleigh Amond; and 2 nieces, Marylee Allen and Janet Davis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ronie & Freda Keim Landry; and brother, Charles Landry.
Friends will be received Friday, May 22, 2009, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 9:00 a.m. until the religious services at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.
interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery
in Hammond.

Frank M. Shelton
Frank M. Shelton, 70 years old of Hammond, died at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the home of his daughter Trudy McLin in Livingston, LA.
He was born on Monday, August 29, 1938, in Hammond.
Mr. Shelton was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was a resident of Hammond for 70 years.
Surviving are his wife, Mary R. Shelton; 5 sons & daughters-in-law, Joey and Janice Shelton of Hammond, Lonnie and Penny Shelton of Hammond, Clay and Brandy Shelton of Hammond, Robert and Cindy Gaude of Holden, and David and Etta Gaude of Albany; daughter & son-in-law, Trudy and Dwayne McLin of Livingston; 3 brothers, Carter Shelton, Dale Shelton, and Paul "Buddy" Shelton; 2 sisters, Micky Demphsey and Martha Chenault; 26 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Grace Sawyer and Everet Shelton; first wife, Frances Shelton; brother, Richard Shelton; and sister, Ellen Prevost.
Friends will be received Friday, May 22, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.
interment will follow in the Sand Hill Cemetery
in Ponchatoula.
Mearl Marie Wall Simpson
Mrs. Mearl Marie Wall Simpson, age 91, died on May 20 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was a native and resident of Loranger and a retired educator.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Simpson, Las Vegas and son, John Simpson, Jr., Loranger; 3 grandchildren, John Joseph "JJ" Watson, Sean Watson, and David Wayne Simpson; great-grandchildren, Savannah Watson, Cody and Trevor SImpson; and great-great grandchild, Alexxis Simpson; sister, Lois Dykes and brother, Robert J. Wall.
She is preceded in death by her husband, John Lewis Simpson, Sr.; granddaughter, Donna Lea Simpson; parents, Robert J. and Pearlie Bennett Wall; and brothers and sisters. Family and friends are invited to the visitation on Friday, May 22 at Loranger Methodist Church after 10 am until the religious service at 11 am. interment will follow in Loranger Community Cemetery.

Clara Gertrude Joiner Lowe, died Monday, May 18, 2009 at Ochsner Health Center. She was 84 years old. Visitation will be held in Baton Rouge at the Greenoaks Funeral Home on Friday, May 22 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and continuing on Saturday, May 23 from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenoaks Cemetery.
Holyn Eugenia Howes Perrin
Holyn Eugenia Howes Perrin, age 84, died on May 20, 2009, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond, LA. She was born on March 16, 1925, in Ponchatoula, LA, to Robert Matthew and Grace Fendlason Howes.
She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Perrin Watkins, and son-in-law, Larry Watkins; two grandsons, Wesley Paul Watkins and Lucas Matthew Watkins; and one great grand-daughter, Savannah Lane Watkins, all of Ponchatoula, LA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold A. Perrin; and her two sisters, Doris Howes Lipscomb and Hazel Howes Fletcher.
Visitation will be at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, LA, on Saturday, May 23, 2009, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with the burial to follow at the Ponchatoula Cemetery.

Lydia Eugenie Bright, 83 years old of Hammond, LA, died Friday, May 22, 2009 at her residence.
She was born on Tuesday, July 7, 1925.
Surviving are ; son & daughter-in-law, Robert and Jan Tournet; grandsons, LLoyd and Eric Tournet and PaulMichael Hebert; great-grandchild, Katherine Adison Hebert; brother, Rev. John Huey Jenkins; sister, Lovenia Jenkins Spencer.
She is preceded in death by ; husband of 28 years, Clarence Bright; parents, Lydia Syrien King Jenkins and John Jack Jenkins;.
Friends will be received Tuesday, May 26, 2009, at Woodland Park Baptist Church, from 9:00 A.M. until services.

Died at 2:30PM on Friday, May 22, 2009 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA.
He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Independence, LA. Age 82 years.
Rev. Danley was Associate pastor at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church, Albany, retired Quality Control Coordinator with the State of Louisiana and was a U. S. Army Air Corps Veteran of WWII.
Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and at Old Zion Hill Baptist Church, Albany, from 12 Noon until religious services at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Services conducted by Rev. Joe Wiggins & Rev. Mitch Williams.

Cecile DeGruy Bates Evans Guichet
Cecile DeGruy Bates Evans Guichet, age 87, of Ponchatoula, died Friday, May 22, 2009, in North Oaks Medical Center. She was born on January 5, 1922, in New Orleans, Louisiana .
Before retiring, Mrs. Guichet owned & operated Cecile's House of Fashion in Ponchatoula. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rosary Altar Society, Red Impressions Red Hat Society, and the Ponchatoula Chamber of Commerce.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Cynthia Gregoire, and husband John, and Brenda Harris, and husband John; 3 sons, Charles W. Bates, and wife Sandra, Jackson P. Bates, and wife Kay, Donald W. Bates, Sr., and wife Karen; 5 grandsons; 6 granddaughters; 20 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers, Horace DeGruy and Charles DeGruy; and numerous nieces & nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey H. & Edna Cecile Geoffrey DeGruy; 1st husband, Jack Bates; 2nd husband, Bill Evans; 3rd husband, Julius Guichet; and 2 brothers, Harvey DeGruy and Melvin DeGruy.
Visitation will be held Sunday, May 24, 2009, at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and will continue on Monday, May 25, 2009, after 9:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ponchatoula, Monday, May 25, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. John Sims, O.P. Celebrant.
interment will follow in the Ponchatoula Cemetery.
