Joan Figler Tilyou, 79 years old of Hammond, died Monday, April 20, 2009, in Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.

She was born on Saturday, June 22, 1929, in Niagara Falls, New York.

Surviving are her husband, Raymond Tilyou; 5 daughters, Karen Lea, Gail Bryan, Suzanne Miller, Kathryn Tilyou, and Cynthia Tilyou; 4 sons, Dr. Mark Tilyou, Gary Tilyou, Lesley Tilyou, and Dr. Paul Tilyou; 16 grandchildren, Bret Tilyou, Neil Tilyou, Erin Spalten, Greg Tilyou, Jeanette Hogan, Stephanie Travis, Adam Tilyou, Bradley Tilyou, Jeffrey Lea, Theresa Bryan, Charles Bryan, Lauren Miller, Douglas Miller, Madeline Tilyou, Taylor Boudreaux, and Josh Boudreaux; 9 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Patricia Tilyou and Paula Bedard; mother-in-law, Pearl Tilyou Ripple of Niagara Falls, New York; 2 brothers-in-law, Clare Tilyou and Glen Tilyou both of Niagara Falls, New York.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Irene Bowman and Eugene Figler; and daughter, Amy Tilyou.

Friends will be received Thursday, April 23, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., and Friday, April 24, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond, Friday, April 24, 2009, at 11:00 a.m.

interment will follow in the Parklawn Memorial Gardens in Hammond.

Linda Shaffer McLaughlin

Age 67 and a lifelong resident of Pumpkin Center, Linda went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 20, 2009 at North Oaks Medical Center. Linda enjoyed being involved in politics and spending time in her yard. Her Christian character was portrayed by her passion for helping others along with the love and care she gave to her husband, children and grandchildren. Linda was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Travis McLaughlin; two sons, Gary and wife, Dawn-Riley Verbois; Nathan McLaughlin and fianc/ Robin-Diamond, all of Pumpkin Center; two daughters, Michele-Verbois Huebinger and husband Jerry, Ponchatoula and Racheal-McLaughlin Rolling and husband John Mark, Jr., Birmingham, Alabama. Linda was blessed with and adored by seven grandchildren, Breanne and Jenna Huebinger; Shea and Alexa Verbois; Logan McLaughlin; Malyn and Lily Grace Rolling. Also surviving Linda are two brothers, Larry Shaffer and Danny Shaffer, Sr. and four sisters, Judy Meades, Sandy Soape, Karen Gables and Susan "SuePat" Thornhill.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Camille and Ernestine-Stewart Shaffer; sister, Helen Faye Shaffer and stepson, Travis Adrian McLaughlin.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from Macedonia Baptist Church in Pumpkin Center on Thursday, April 23rd at 10:00 a.m.

Visitation will be held at Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 22nd from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and again on Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the funeral time. Rev. Melvin Adams will officiate the services and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home of Hammond.

Christina Carroll Craig

Mrs. Christina Carroll Craig, 83 years old of Hammond, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at the Carpenter House hospice center in Baton Rouge.

She was born on Tuesday, April 6, 1926, in Natalbany, daughter of the late George and Tena Stewart Carroll.

Mrs. Craig was a member of the New Haven Baptist Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258 in Springfield.

Surviving are her sons & daughters-in-law, Bobby and Brenda Craig Jr., George and Anita Craig, Joe and Kathy Craig; daughter & son-in-law, Belinda and Rodney Johnson ; 8 grandchildren, Eric Craig, Kathleen Craig, Kay May, Scott Craig, Annie Craig, Cody Johnson , Daniel Craig, Jane Craig; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Maudie Raybourn and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Craig Sr. and granddaughter, Jesica Michelle Johnson ; 2 brothers, Lonnie and John Carroll; 2 sisters, Iva M. Holts and Catherine Crayton.

Friends will be received Friday, April 17, 2009, from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm and on Saturday, April 18, 2009 from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

Services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Andy Stafford officiating.

interment will follow in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Albany.

Salvador J. Catalanatto

Salvador J. Catalanatto, 66 years old, entered this world on August 26, 1942, and departed this world on April 8, 2009.

Mr. Catalanatto was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend.

Surviving are his sister, Rose Miladen; 2 sons, Ray Stoetzner and Ricky Stoetzner; daughter, Jerry Lynn Price; aunt, Mary Lato; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lena Miloto Catalanatto; wife, Lois McAlister Catalanatto; son, Bobby Stoetzner; 3 brothers, A. V. Catalanatto, Paul Catalanatto, and Mitchel Catalanatto; and sister, Lucille C. Goynes.

Friends will be received Monday, April 13, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, April 13, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Tickfaw.

interment will follow in the James Chapel Cemetery in Holden.

Bernice Monts Simmons

Bernice Monts Simmons, died at 8:33AM on Saturday, April 11, 2009 at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS. She was a native of Maben, MS and a resident of Kentwood, LA. Age 83 years.

Visitation at her residence Kentwood, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Monday and at Line Creek Baptist Church, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Tuesday. Services conducted by Rev. Ken Irwin. interment Line Creek Cemetery, Kentwood, LA.

Survived by Daughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Larry Raborn, Kentwood, son and daughter-in-law, Tommy and Wanda Simmons, Kentwood, Kelly and Donald Hart, Summit, MS, 8 grandchildren, Wayne Raborn, Jeremy Raborn and wife, Ashley, Miranda Raborn, Stan Simmons and wife, Bethany, Dooley Simmons, Stacey Simmons, Heidi Hart, Hannah Hart, 2 great-grandchildren, Tanner and Laney Raborn, and 2 expected, 2 brothers, Grady Monts, Starkville, MS, J. D. Monts, Jr. And wife, Shirley, Maben, MS, numerous nieces and nephews, Preceded in death by, husband, Thomas Stanley Simmons, Sr., Brother, Thurman Monts, infant brother. She was a member of Line Creek Baptist Church and O.E.S. of Osyka, MS, and was a retired teacher at Kentwood High School.

She was a member of Line Creek Baptist Church and O.E.S. of Osyka, MS, and was a former teacher at Kentwood High School. She was owner and operator of Kentwood Oil Company and Simmons Texaco since 1969 and Simmons Gulf from 1958 until 1969.

Wanda Jean Parker Wadlington

Wanda Jean Parker Wadlington, 73 years old of Robert, LA, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at her residence.

She was born on Friday, October 11, 1935, in Milan Texas .

Surviving are; grandchildren, Wayne St.Cyr, Shannon and her husband Randall Peterson, Benny St.Cyr, Timmy Hays, Julia Hays, Rhett Dozier, Dax Dozier and Holly Dozier; great-grandchildren, Bronson St.Cyr, Braie, Payton and Brylin Peterson, Alyse Lee, Waylyn Vicknair.

son, Kirk Dozier; daughter, Donna Jean Hays.

She is preceded in death by ; Parents.

Friends will be received Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at the Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home in Hammond from 6:00P.M. until 9:00P.M.

A celebration of life will be held in the funeral home chapel, Tuesday, at 7:00p.m.

Richard Allen Crowder

Richard Allen Crowder, 74 years old of Hammond, Louisiana died Saturday, April 4, 2009 surrounded by his family at North Oaks Medical Center.

He was born on Wednesday, November 21, 1934 in Charleston, West Virginia son of the late Harrison Crowder and Margaret Hawkins Crowder.

Surviving are his wife Patricia of Hammond, LA ; daughter Lilly of Milwaukee, WI; son & daughter-in-law Allen Dale & Jayme of Chandler, AZ; daughter & son-in-law Cynthia & Todd of Stafford, VA; grandchild Lola of Milwaukee, WI; grandchildren, Drew, Chase & Taylour of Chandler, AZ; Sara, Rebecca & Tim of Stafford, VA; great-grandchild Matthew of Stafford, VA.

Alice Daniels

Alice Daniels, 90 of Bolivar, LA, died March 31, 2009 at Southeast Regional Medical Center in Kentwood.

Survivors include one daughter, Adlean Daniels Atkins; one son, Roy Lee Damiels; and six sisters: Henrietta, Mary Jane, Pearl, Emma, Jane, Carrie, and Maggie. She is also survived by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by four brothers: Charlie, Johnny, Robert, and Fred. She is also preceded by husband J.B. Daniels.

Visitation will be at Big Creek A.M.E. Church in Bolivar on April 7, 2009 from 3-8 p.m. The funeral will be in the same place on April 8 at 1 p.m.

Martin “Battery Man” Griffin Jr.

Age 66, a graduate of Baton Rouge High, Martin Passed away on Monday, April 6, 2009 at North Oaks Medical Center. He lived in Baton Rouge for many years before moving to Springfield where he has spent the last 31 years.

An entrepreneur who recycled batteries for over thirty years became known as the “Battery Man.”

He served as past Master for the Hurd Merrill Masonic Lodge # 454 in Livingston, was an avid LSU fan and also served our country in Vietnam with the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 28 years, Viola "Vi" Coats-Griffin; daughters, Marla Johnson and husband Benji, Flo Carrigan and fianc/ Dave Kirkpatrick; sons, Mark Griffin and wife Stefanie, Mike Medeiros, Tom Bates and fianc/ Sheri Kysilka, Thomas Griffin and wife Sheila, Jimbo Bates and wife Dawn.

The joy of his life were his surviving grandchildren, Benay, Kelsie and Nicole Johnson ; Stephen Mitchell and Katie Carringan; Lauren Bates; Shannon Fish; Logan, James "Jambo" and Lilly Bates; Dylan and Sammi Schular. He is also survived by one great-grandson, Tommy Fish; his very best pal, Buzz Perrin; a special niece, Melissa Johnson and nephew John Henderson; his mother-in-law, Florence Foster and his brother-in-law, Kenneth Kelly and his wife Dora.

He was preceded in death by his son, Timothy "Tiny" Griffin; his only sister, Della; parents, Martin, Sr. and Lucille Griffin.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the graveside services at Carter Cemetery in Springfield on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. Chris Chavers from New Hope Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of Martin Griffin, Jr. to the Girls Scout Troop 421-Albany, 29950 Pine Dr., Albany La 70711. The donations will be presented to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life in Livingston Parish on May 15, 2009.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home of Hammond.

Joseph Clarence Poche

Joseph Clarence Poche Sr., age 80, died at his residence on Sunday, April 5, 2009. He was a native and resident of Hungarian Settlement. Survivors include his wife, Irene Fontenot Poche; daughters, Margaret DeMars, Barbara Dixon, and Pamela Yager; and son Joseph Picou, Jr. ; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchidren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son; 8 brothers and 2 sisters; one grandson, and one great-grandson.

Family and friends are invite to attend the visitation at Geisler Funeral Home in Albany on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 from 6 until 9 pm and on Wednesday after 10:00 am until the religious service at 1:00 pm. interment will follow in Springfield Cemetery.
