Sally Ann Pease, 73 years old of Hammond, LA died peacefully at home on Monday, March 17, 2008.

She was born on March 17, 1935 in Windsor, VA, daughter of the late William Carr and the late Patricia Cross.She was a homemaker and loving mother.

Surviving is her son, Robert Pease.

She is preceded in death by her parents: William Carr, father and Patricia Cross, mother.

Friends will be received Thursday, March 20, 2008 from 9 to 12 at Tickfaw Baptist Church.Services will be held at Tickfaw Baptist Church, Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 12 noon.

interment will follow in the Tickfaw Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to offset funeral expenses at Harry McKneely and Son.

Joseph Louis Garafola

Joseph Louis Garafola, 76 years old of Hammond, LA, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 in North Oaks Medical Center.

Joseph was born on Friday, March 4, 1932 in Natalbany.

He was the retired owner of Tangi Ambulance Service, which he operated for 19 years. Mr. Garafola was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Ann Graziano Garafola; son, Timothy Garafola; daughter & son-in-law, Sherry Garafola Barker and Kim Barker; grandsons, Lance and Ryan Barker; sister, Rose Garafola Tynes; 3 brothers, Charles Garafola, Tony Garafola and Nace Garafola Jr.

He is preceded in death by ; parents, Nace Garafola and Johanna Latino Garafola; brother, Sam Garafola; sister, Angelina Garafola Miller..

Friends will be received Tuesday, June 24, 2008, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church from 9:00a.m. until 11:00a.m.

Mass will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 11:00a.m. interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Mausoleum, Hammond.

Sister Mary Jeanne Girshefski

Sister Mary Jeanne Girshefski, O.P., age 81 years and in her 56th year of religious profession, died on June 19. 2008 at 9:20 a.m. at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center, 5600 General de Gaulle Drive, New Orleans, LA

Sister was born Shirley Mary Girshefski in New Orleans, Louisiana , daughter of the late John Girshefski and Rosetta Fischer Girshefski, half sister of the late Mrs. Ruth Burst, Mrs. Mae Norris, and Mrs. Ethel Richard, survived by one sister, Jeanne G. Dunn, and nieces and nephews. Sister Mary Jeanne received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from Louisiana State University, a Master’s Degree in Secondary Administration and Supervision and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from St. Louis University.

After professing her vows in 1952, sister taught at St. Peter in Reserve, St. Mary’s Dominican College where she served as Chair of the Education Department, and St. Anthony of Padua School in New Orleans. For six years she served as the Aspiranture Directress in Rosaryville. Sister Mary Jeanne was one of the three educators appointed in 1978 to write Louisiana ’s regulations for implementing a federal law that required schools to begin educating handicapped students to the best of each student’s ability.

She was appointed Assistant Director of Educational programs in the Division of Special Education in the State Department of Education for seven years. Sister served as Principal at Holy Ghost School in Hammond, Louisiana and at St. Joseph’s High School in Greenville, Mississippi. In 1999, Sister Mary Jeanne was honored as the Nun of the Year by the St. Dominic’s Catholic Daughters of America, and she was the outstanding volunteer honoree of the Women United for Civic and Governmental Improvement.

For the past six years, she served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Dominican Volunteers Program and is presently a member of the Board of Trustees of Dominican Volunteers USA. She also volunteered for the Special Olympics. She served on the Regional Transit Authority (RTA) Advisory Committee, the Mayor’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities, the Louisiana State Use Council, the New Orleans Public Schools Task Force, and Louisiana Employment Network. She served on the Archbishop’s Commission for Persons with Disabilities for a six year term (1994-2000) when she rotated off the Commission.

At the time of her death, Sister Mary Jeanne, was the Executive Director of Strive Incorporated, managed Strive Center, a work program for persons with mental retardation; Miller Manor, a group home for six ladies who are mentally retarded; and Miller Action Center, an innovative recreational program for the handicapped.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Henry’s Church, 812 General Pershing Street on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., followed by interment in the Dominican Sisters Cemetery in Rosaryville, Ponchatoula, Louisiana . A prayer service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Wisdom, 5600 General de Gaulle Drive, New Orleans, LA and at 5:00 p.m. in the Dominican Sisters Motherhouse Chapel, 580 Broadway, New Orleans, LA.

Visitation will be on June 24 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Motherhouse Chapel and on June 25 from 9:00 a.m. until Mass time at St. Henry’s Church.

Frances W. Hendricks

Frances W. Hendricks, 88, Passed away Friday, June 20, 2008 at a local care facility.

Frances was born March 30, 1920 in Kentwood. Frances was a member of the Methodist Church in Independence, before moving to Ragley and joining Squyres Methodist Church. She was a member of the Ragley Volunteers for Family and Community. While living in Independence, she was a Pink Lady at the hospital and hosted a weekly religious radio show for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Tirie Hendricks and a son Thomas Hendricks both of Ragley; one daughter, Teresa Hendricks Chambers of Houston, Texas ; two sisters, Eugenia Evans of Independence and Alice Arnold of New Orleans; and two grandchildren, Julie Marie Chambers and Jennifer Nicole Chambers both of Houston, Texas .

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 in Hixson Funeral Home of Moss Bluff. The Rev. Juan Huertas will officiate. Visitation is from 8 a.m. until service time.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday in Woodlawn Cemetery in Kentwood, Louisiana .

Richard Paul Lee

Richard Paul Lee, age 37 died on June 19, 2008 in Hammond. He was born on August 7, 1970 and was a native and resident of Robert, LA.

Survivors include his children, Kayla Ann Lee, Drake Paul Lee, and Blaise Joseph Lee , all of Quitman, TX; step-daughter, Savannah Jasmine Scariano; parents, Richard A. and Lisa Lee and Phyllis and Kenneth Blow; brothers, Arron, Ricky, and Justin Lee and sister, Shandale Haugh.

He is also survived by grandparents, Clara and Jerry Louque and Barbara Alexander.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elicia Scariano Lee and grandparents, Neil Alexander and Sidney and Helen Lee.

Friends and family are invited to the memorial visitation on Wednesday, June 25 at Geisler Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 10 am until the service at 1 pm conducted by Bro. Johnny Hernandez.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a special fund for the children of Richard P. Lee at any First Guaranty Bank.

LeRoy Owens Sr.

Age 72, a native of Hammond and a resident of Holden, LeRoy Passed away Sunday, June 22, 2008 at Oschner Medical Center of Baton Rouge. After retiring as a barber for twenty-two years and being co-owner of Morris’ Barber Shop in Baton Rouge, LeRoy then became self-employed for the past several years with Max’s Barber Shop in Albany: as well as retiring as a boiler maker in the maintenance department with the Hammond Developmental Center. LeRoy was a member of Masonic Lodge #466 and a member of the Independence Baptist Church and he served in the United States Army.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Triplett Owens of Holden, loving son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy and Paula Perricone Owens of Holden; adoring daughter and son-in-law, Liz and Miles Cotten of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He leaves behind five wonderful grandchildren, Justin Lee Owens, Clint Owens Cotten, Madison Elizabeth Cotten, Milam Cotten and Kyle Musacchia. Surviving siblings are brothers, Max Owens and wife, Barbara of Albany, Paul Owens and wife, Julie of Baton Rouge and Rodney Owens of Hammond along with one sister, Lillie Williams and husband, Mitch of Baptist.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don Owens and Richard "Dick" Owens and his parents, Ralph and Reba Addison Owens.

Pallbearers are Justin Owens, Clint Cotten, Tom Owens, Terry Glascock, Dwight Blount and Sonny Thompson.

Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services from the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, west of Hammond on Wednesday, June 25th at 10:00 a.m. The family requests that visiting hours be observed on Tuesday, June 24th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Wednesday beginning at 8:00 a.m. until the service time. Leroy’s brother-in-law, Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate the services and interment will follow in Holly Gardens Cemetery in Hammond.

Vicki Lynn Perrin Ryerson

A native of Ponchatoula, a longtime resident of Denham Springs and recently a resident of Bay Springs, MS

Passed away at 1:30 PM, on Friday, June 20, 2008 at her residence in Bay Springs, MS at the age of 59.

Visitation will be at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, LA on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 from 10:00 AM until funeral services at Seale Funeral Home Chapel, Denham Springs at 2:00 PM conducted by Rev. Joey Kugler. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Denham Springs.

She is survived by: Husband, Tim Ryerson; Daughters and Sons-in-law, Lynette and Gary "Chief" Reno, Stephanie and Bobby Seals, Crissy and Derik Cutrer; Sister, Cheryl Perrin Bertaut; Brothers, Terry, Keith and Russell Perrin; 7 Grandchildren; 4 Great-Grandchildren; Her beloved dogs, Buffy and Bella

She was preceded in Death by: Son, Daniel Ryerson; Parents, Henry "Dick" and Wilda Perrin.

Services performed under the direction of Seale Funeral Service, Inc. Denham Springs, LA.

Evelyn Burches

Evelyn Burches, 69, of Hammond and a native of Tangipahoa, died February 14, 2008 at North Oaks Hospital.

Visitation will be at St. James AME Church, Thursday from 5 until the funeral at 7 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Washington .

Survivors are her sons, Bobby Burches and Larry (Brenda) Burches; brothers, James William and Mose Burton; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Claude Mason; father, Saul Cryer Sr.; one daughter, Jackie Burches; four brothers, Willie Washington , Bobby William, Aaron Mason and Clarence Moore.

David King Frazer

David King Frazer, 72, of Hammond, died Sunday, February 17, 2008 in North Oaks Medical Center.

He was born on July 13, 1935 in Eldorado, Illinois, son of the late C. A. and Betty King Frazer.

Mr. Frazer was a U.S. Army Veteran, member and past president of Rotary, Hammond Club, member and past president of the Louisiana Press Association, and member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Patricia Sloan Frazer; 2 sons, Michael Sloan Frazer and Douglas Alan Frazer; 3 grandchildren, Brandon, Christopher, and Nichole Frazer; 2 sisters, Nancy Woods and Mary Curran; 1 brother, Robert Frazer.

Friends will be received Thursday, February 21, 2008, at the Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond from 6 p.m. til 9 p.m., and after 8 a.m. on Friday until religious services.

Services will be held at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Friday, February 22, 2008 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jerry Hanible officiating. interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Mausoleum.
