Donald Merwyn Breland

Donald Merwyn Breland, 73 years old of Hammond, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at Gulf States Hospital, Hammond. Born June 29, 1932 in Baton Rouge, son of the late T C James and Vera Hollynda Varnado Breland.

He was a Masonic member of Livingston Lodge #160, Hammond, played the Tuba with the Baton Rouge Symphony, and was formerly a salesman and manager at several auto dealerships in Tangipahoa Parish.

Surviving are his beloved wife Darlene Murray Breland; three daughters, Donna Breland Pettitt, Cathy Breland Aime, Holly Breland Wrinkles; three sons, James Breland, Stephen Breland, Sheldon Chaney; nephew, John Weathsby; 10 Grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Catherine Hooks Breland; sister, Athelea Breland Weathsby; and brother, TC James Breland, Jr.

Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at the Harry McKneely & Son in Hammond from 9 AM until the 11 AM Funeral Home Chapel Service, conducted by Frank Lanier. interment will follow in the Rose Memorial Park Cemetery.

Leo Humphrey

Evangelist Leo Humphrey, 71 years old of Hammond, died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at North Oaks Medical Center.

He was born Tuesday, October 23, 1934 in Checotah, Oklahoma , son of the late Joseph Gordon and Ethel Humphrey.

Surviving are his wife, Loyce K. Humphrey of Hammond; daughter, Jill Pletcher of Dallas, Texas ; grandson, Benjamin Kelly Pletcher; granddaughter, Margaret "Maggie" Elizabeth Pletcher; two brothers, Donald Joseph Humphrey of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Douglas David Humphrey of Lavaca, Arkansas; two sisters, Joan Clark of Checotah, Oklahoma , Brenda Joy Jamison of Greenwood, Arkansas.

He was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Humphrey.

Friends will be received at Woodland Park Baptist Church in Hammond on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Wednesday, March 29, 2006, from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.

Services will be held at Woodland Park Baptist Church, Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.

interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Checotah, Oklahoma .

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Good News in Action Inc.

Lucille Shaffer Wall

SPRINGFIELD — Lucille Shaffer Wall, 87 years old of Springfield, Louisiana , died Sunday, March 26, 2006 at her residence.

She was born Friday, August 16, 1918 in Wadesboro, Louisiana , daughter of the late John Edward and Alice Justus Shaffer.

Surviving are two sons, Rev. Jimmy Wall of Loranger, Butch Wall of Ponchatoula; daughter, Audrey W. Coats of Springfield; 15 Grandchildren, 26 Great-grandchildren and two Great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John V. Wall Sr.; son, John V. "J. V." Wall Jr.; four brothers, Freddie, Eddie, Roy, and Camille Shaffer and four sisters, Mattie Mixon Raiford, Lessie Mitchell, Cecelia "C. C." Adams and Effie Shaffer.

Friends will be received at Woodland Baptist Church on Hwy 1037, five miles south of Springfield, Tuesday, March 28, 2006 from 6 pm until 10 pm and on Wednesday, March 29, 2006 from 8 am until 10 am.

Services will be held at Woodland Baptist Church, Wednesday, March 29, 2006 at 10:00 am with Rev Jimmy Wall officiating.

interment will follow in the Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery.

Alvie Levell Magee

FRANKLINTON — Alvie Levell Magee, 60, a former resident of Hammond, died Sunday, March 19, 2006, at North Oaks in Hammond.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Pool Magee of Hammond; his mother, Mavis Ollane Graves Magee of Franklinton; four daughters, Ashley Magee and Turkessa Pool, both of Hammond, and Denise Magee and Elise Magee, both of Ohio; four sons, Keith Magee and Bryante Magee, both of Boston, Massachusetts, and Alfred Robinson of Hammond; three sisters, Curtis Lee Brown of Folsom, Paulette Mekins and Myrtis, both of Bogalusa; one brother, Romell Morris of Bogalusa; and 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis Magee; one brother, Robert Charles Magee; one sister, Elaine Magee Weary; two daughters, Andrea Magee and Deidra Lynn Magee.

A wake service was March 23, 2006, at Crain & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Franklinton. Keith Magee conducted the funeral service March 24 at 1 p.m. at Sweet Home Church of Christ Holiness.

Burial will be at the church cemetery.

Irma Amacker Hyde Morgan

AMITE — Irma Amacker Hyde Morgan, died at 8:38PM on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at the residence of her son in Baton Rouge, LA.

She was a native of Roseland, La., and a resident of Amite, LA. Age 79 years.

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11:00 a.m. Saturday.

interment Amite Cemetery, Amite, La.

She is survived by her son, Thomas C. Morgan, Baton Rouge.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lea Morgan; parents, Dr. A. S. J. Hyde and Helen Irma Amacker Hyde.

Cheryl Lynn Zeiser

AMITE — Cheryl Lynn Zeiser, aged 47, died on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at her residence in Amite. She was a native of Tangipahoa Parish and a carpenter. She is survived by two sons, Owen and Chris O'Neill; a daughter, Dena Sullivan; five grandchildren, Dusty, Bradley, Dylan, Kaitlyn and Presley; five sisters, Cindy Charmaine, Connie, Crissy and Cathy; and one brother, Charles Zeiser.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rose Notia Zeiser.

Visitation will be at Geisler Funeral Home, Albany on Friday, March 31, 2006 from 9 a.m. until the religious service at 1 p.m.

Burial in Sullivan Cemetery, Independence.

Derrick Foster

AMITE — Derrick Foster, born December 26, 1970 in Independence, died March 31, 2006.

A native and resident fo Amite, he was a 1988 graduate of Amite High School. He attended Southern University in Baton Rouge.

Survivors are, his mother, Earnestine Foster and father, Andrew Hanible, both of Amite; two sons, Ty Douglas of Baton Rouge, and Derrick Robinson of Amite; one daughter, Shandrika Robinson of Amite; one brother, Terrence Foster; and one sister, Tezza Harrell of Amite; and longtime companion, Latricia Robinson of Amite; stepbrothers and stepsisters, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at noon at Little Bethel Baptist Church, Amite. The Rev. Frank A. Davis will officiate.

Burial will be at Butler Cemetery, Amite.

Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge.

Esther Sohayad Rohling

Esther Sohayda Rohling, a retired Unit Secretary for North Oaks Medical Center of Hammond, Louisiana , died Sunday, April 2, 2006 at her residence.

She was 82 years old, born on Sunday, July 29, 1923 in Niles, Ohio, daughter of the late Alex Sohayda and Esther Mezei.

Surviving are three daughters, Esther Pam Newman, JoAnne Tallo, and Deborah Stevens, all of Hammond; a brother, Charles Pal of Robert; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sylvester Rohling.

Friends will be received at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Hammond on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, from 11 a.m. until noon, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. John Restrepo, O.P.

interment follows in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery, Hammond.

Percy J. Briggs Sr.

Percy J. Briggs Sr., 53, native of Kentwood, died March 29, 2006, at Hwy 25 in Franklinton, La.

Survivors include his son, Percy "P.J." Briggs Jr., Kentwood; one son-in-law, Randy Lee, Franklinton; four daughters, Chewwapuwa "Wapa," Jasmine and Monika Briggs, Kentwood, and Eiesha Lee, Franklinton; one sister, Helen Briggs Jones, Kentwood; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Briggs and his grandparents.

Visitation Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday at Union Chapel AME Church, Kentwood, at 11 a.m. Conducted by Rev. Sherman Berry.

Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Nellie Rae Strahan Lawson

SATSUMA — Nellie Rae "Nell" Strahan Lawson, died Monday, April 3, 2006, at her home in Satsuma.

She was 73 years old, and a native of Hammond, Louisiana . She was a mother and a homemaker.

Visiting at Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, after 9 a.m. until burial services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by Brother Keith McAlister and a special prayer given by Rev. Vernon Allen.

Burial will be in Holly Gardens Cemetery.

She is survived by three daughters, Ever Lavelle Harvey and Beverly Elaine Lawson of Satsuma and Shelly Lynn Lawson of Walker. Three granddaughters, one grandson, two great-grandchildren, three sisters, and many other family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Leslie Lawson, parents, Luther and Anna Strahan, brother, Joseph Strahan, sisters, Joyce Strahan, Luther Mae Mitchell, and son-n-law, Earnest Harvey.

Pallbearers, David Dumas, Billy J. Duplechain, Adam Dubois, James Pitre, Jason Murray and Herbie Biddle.

She will always be loved and missed by all.
