JAMES R. DAVIS JR.

AMITE -- James R. "Bud" Davis Jr., 63, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Riverwest Medical Center, Plaquemine.

A native of Independence, he was a tug boat captain.

Survivors include his wife, Josie C. Davis of Amite; one daughter, Melinda J. Mann of Hammond; four sons, James R. Davis III of Loranger, Donnie G., Christopher S. and Timmy T. Davis, all of Amite; three sisters, Vivian McIntyre and Linda Jenkins, both of Covington, and Angela King of Independence; two brothers, Donald Ray and Gilbert Roy Davis, both of Loranger; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James R. Davis Sr. and Ruby Mae Thompson Davis; and two sisters, Robbie Jean Fortenberry and Betty Ingram.

Visitation will be today at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the Rev. Bryan Strickland conducts the funeral at 10.

Burial will be at Arcola-Roseland Cemetery, Arcola.

SIMPSON ALDEN FAYARD

PONCHATOULA -- Simpson Alden Fayard, 86, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at Landmark Nursing Home, Hammond.

A resident of Wadesboro, he was a retired veteran and retired member of Millwright Local 720 of Baton Rouge.

Survivors include four daughters, Sheryl Michelli of Pearl River, Katherine Norred of Springfield, Velma McCrory of Jackson and Denise Fayard of Hammond; three sons, Thadd Fayard of Ponchatoula, Dennis Fayard of Jackson and Darren Fayard of Shreveport; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wanda Wickliffe Fayard; a daughter, Shelda Fayard Hutchinson; a son, Scott Fayard; and his second wife, Helen Turnage Fayard.

Visitation will be tonight at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m., and burial will follow at Carter Cemetery, Springfield.

JESSIE DENISE GUILLORY TILLMAN THREETON FUNDERBURG

PONCHATOULA -- Jessie Denise "Miss Bea" Guillory Tillman Threeton Funderburg, 88, a homemaker, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Belle Maison Nursing Home.

A native of Plaquemine, she is survived by seven grandchildren.

Her first husband, Richard Tillman Sr.; her third husband, Warnie Funderburg; two sons, Richards Tillman Jr. and Lawrence Tillman; her parents, Thomas and Frances Spring Guillory; one sister, Birdie Guillory Zito; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be Thursday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 10 a.m. until the Rev. Stephen A. Wells conducts the funeral at noon.

Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery, Springfield.

BERNICE HOWARD

NEW ORLEANS -- Bernice Howard, 85, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Ferncrest Manor, New Orleans.

A native of Greensburg, she is survived by three sons, Thomas, James and David Howard, all of New Orleans; one brother, Willie Knighten of Toledo, Ohio; 20 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Maggie Knighten; her husband, Ellis Howard Sr.; one daughter, Mae Helen Howard; and one brother, Ellis Howard Jr.

Visitation will be Thursday at Turner Chapel AME Church, Greensburg, from noon until the funeral at 1 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Stanley Turner followed by burial at the church cemetery.

Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge.

WILLIE MAE FOSTER JETT

PONCHATOULA -- Willie Mae Foster Jett, 58, died Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2004, at her home.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond.

ALMA JOE MOORE

SPRINGFIELD -- Alma Joe Moore, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday at MJR Friendly Service Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 2 to 7 p.m. The Rev. Robert Smith will conduct the funeral Thursday at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Springfield.

THELMA LEE MORSE

PONCHATOULA -- Thelma Lee Morse, 66, a native of Ponchatoula, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at her home.

She is survived by three sons, Troy Morse of Pumpkin Center and Terry and Randy Morse, both of Ponchatoula; one daughter, Bridgette Galladora of Albany; her mother, Tina Holland of Ponchatoula; four brothers, Ivy, Truman and Michael Holland, all of Ponchatoula, and Allen Holland of Abita Springs; two sisters, Eva Younger of Robert and Geneva Givens of Ponchatoula; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edwin Holland; two brothers, Leon and Mack Holland; and one sister, Mildred Leblanc.

ALONZO SPURLOCK

NATALBANY -- Alonzo Spurlock, 22 days old, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004.

He is survived by his mother and father, Angela Spurlock and Lawrence Jackson , both of Natalbany; two sisters, Aaliyah Spurlock of Natalbany and Lanisha Jackson of Hammond; and one brother, Keiangelo Spurlock of Natalbany.

Darnell Johnson will conduct the funeral Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Beacon Light Baptist Church.

Burial will be at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond.

Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.

LINDSEY E. VERNON

AMITE -- Lindsey E. Vernon, 58, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004, in New Orleans.

Survivors include two sons, Marco Vernon of Vallejo, Calif., and Lindsey Vernon of Seattle; three daughters, Lenora Vernon of Los Angeles, Lakeisha Steptoe and Ann Wilson, both of Amite; her mother, Ora Bell Vernon of Amite; and nine grandchildren.

Her father, Riley E. Vernon; and her brothers, Dexter, Leonard and Melvin Vernon, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite. The funeral will be at noon Thursday at Mount Canaan Baptist Church followed by burial at the church cemetery.

IULA WADE WILLIAMS

BATON ROUGE -- Iula Wade Williams, 55, died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Earl K. Long Hospital, Baton Rouge.

Survivors include her husband, Rudolph Williams; one son, Rudy Wade Williams; two daughters, Felecia W. Hambrick and Amelia W. Williams; two sisters, Dimple Mae Clark and Essie Smith; two brothers, Charles Wade and James Wade; and three grandchildren.

Her parents, Jessie and Mable Wade; two brothers, Evans and James Clyde Wade, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be tonight from 4 until the funeral at 7 at Greater Mount Carmel Baptist Church, Baton Rouge. Visitation will also be Thursday at St. Helena Baptist Church from 8 a.m. until the Rev. Fred Jeff Smith conducts the dismissal service at 10 a.m.

Burial will be at St. Helena Baptist Church Cemetery.

Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge.

VERLE E. FRIDLEY SR.

ANDERSON, Ind. -- The Rev. Verle E. Fridley Sr., 83, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at Manor Care Health Services, Anderson, Ind.

Born in Middletown, Ind., he once served as a minister in Hammond as well as other areas. He was also of member of the Rotary and Kiwanis clubs.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Muterspaugh Fridley; his son, Verle Fridley Jr.; and two grandchildren.

His parents and his brother, Bob, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be Sunday at Eastside Church of God from 3 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Kerry Robinson will conduct the funeral Monday at 11 a.m. and burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.

A scholarship Fund is being established at the Anderson University School of Theology.

Rozelle- Johnson Funeral Home, Anderson, Ind., is in charge.

ETHEL IKE

TICKFAW -- Ethel Ike, 97, a native of Kentwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

She is survived by one daughter, Mary Clayton of Tickfaw; and three grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Wilbard Jones will conduct the funeral Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. James Baptist Church, Tickfaw. Dismissal will be Monday at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond.

N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.
