John William "Bill" Matherson, 76, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
He was a native of Cudahy, Calif.
Survivors include two sons, John B. Matherson of Las Flores, Calif., and William H. Matherson, both of Las Flores, Calif.; two daughters, Becky M. McKinnon of Chino, Calif., and Betty M. Jones of Riverside, Calif.; one brother, Richard H. Matherson of Oakland, Calif.; and 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His wife, Betty L. Matherson; and his parents, Jack and Alyce Wheaton Matherson, preceded her in death.
LYLE MCFADDEN
Lyle McFadden, 70, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at his home.

BOGALUSA -- James Edward Nelson, 69, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at Louisiana State University Medical Center, Bogalusa.
He was a native of Fayette, Ala., and a member of Superior Avenue Baptist Church, Bogalusa.
Survivors include his brother, Grady Nelson of Hammond; and three sisters, Connie Duckworth and Vaudean Phillips, both of Fayette, Ala., and Martha Essary of Vernon, Ala.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Perkins Nelson; his parents, John and Essie Kissire Nelson; one brother, Jack Nelson; and one sister, Lorene Terry.
Visitation will be Sunday at Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, from 12:30 p.m. until the religious service at 2:30 p.m. followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond.
JOHN STANLEY RYAN
CLIO -- John Stanley Ryan, 85, died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
A native of Clio, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired boiler maker of Local 582 in Baton Rouge.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Arnold Ryan of Clio; one son, Kenneth Wayne Ryan of Clio; one brother, Edward Joseph Ryan of Clio; three sisters, Evelyn Ryan Stafford of Ponchatoula, Bernadette Ryan Meadows of New Orleans and Marie Emogene Ryan Kuhn of Kansas; and eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by her parents, John Joseph and Mary Henry Ryan; one sons, Stanley Leonard Ryan Sr.; one daughter, Beverly Ann Ryan Billings; one brother, Virgil Ryan; two sisters, Hazel Ryan Lavigne and Lucille Ryan Anderson; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 until the funeral at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Davidson Cemetery.
TYRONE J. DEAMER
AMITE -- Tyrone J. Deamer, 52, a native of New Orleans, died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary.
Survivors include two sisters, Pat Deamer of Oakland, Calif., and Sonja Rhodes Perry of Houston; one brother, Leslie Deamer Jr. of Amite; and his father, Leslie Deamer Sr. of New Orleans.
His mother, Thelma Deamer; and one sister, Pamela Deamer, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be today at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Francis Williams will conduct the funeral Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Butlers AME Zion Church, Amite.
Burial will be at Big Zion Cemetery, Roseland.

Gertrude Hughes, 82, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

ROBERT EARL MCCOY
ST. HELENA PARISH -- Robert Earl McCoy, 81, died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, in Baton Rouge.
He was a retired dairy and cattle farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Marguerite L. McCoy of Amite; a sister, Helen McCoy Robertson of Amite; a brother, Joseph M. McCoy of Amite; his son, Bobby R. McCoy of Baton Rouge; a daughter, Becky McCoy Decker of Watson; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Newson and Carrie Knighten McCoy; his first wife, Myrtie Webb McCoy; an infant son, James Michael McCoy; two sisters, Evelyn McCoy Singleton and Irma McCoy Carruth; and one brother, Douglas Knighten McCoy.
Visitation will be today at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 3 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 8 a.m. until the Rev. Clyde Williams and the Rev. Gaylord Dodgen conduct the funeral at 11 at Roberts Cemetery
between Amite and Greensburg.

Mount Herman native Veta Estelle Schilling, 87, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2004, at Belle Maison Nursing Home.

GREENSBURG -- Alonzo Henry Cooper Jr., 56, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, as a result of an automobile accident in Amite.
He is survived by six sisters, Gloria Blunt, Earnistine Cooper, Helena Brown and Gail Brown, all of Hammond, Shirley Terry of Ponchatoula and Louise Galmon of Amite; and one brother, Willie J. Cooper of Slidell.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alonzo and Helen Cooper; and two brothers, Edward and Charles Ray Cooper.
Visitation will be Wednesday at Greater Love COGIC, Hammond, from 10 a.m. until noon. The Rev. Herbert Wagner will conduct the funeral at 1 p.m. followed by burial at Holly Garden Cemetery, Hammond.

ALBANY -- Joseph Alford Cowart Sr., 90, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Baton Rouge.
A native of Pride, he is a retired truck driver and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Magdalene Cowart of Albany; one son, Joseph Cowart Jr. of Zachary; four daughters, JoAnn LeBlanc and Phyllis Bourque, both of Baton Rouge, Peggy Winstead of Albany and Brenda Graphia of Ponchatoula; three brothers, Wilfred Cowart, Leroy Cowart and Floyd Cowart, all of Albany; two sisters, Inez Young and Irena Boyd, both of Albany; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Robert and Kline Cowart; his parents, Perry and Inez Jennings Cowart; one sister, Lorena Schanil; two brothers, Ellis and Wilton Cowart; and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was today at St. Margaret Catholic Cemetery, Albany.

Alden Napoleon Harper, 72, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at Landmark Nursing Home, Hammond.
A native of Ponchatoula, he is survived by four daughters, Pamela H. McCoy of Pumpkin Center, Karen H. Young of Loranger, Brenda H. Vincent and Rhonda H. Hill, both of Ponchatoula; two brothers, Richard Harper of Hammond and Hardy Harper of Dallas; one sister, Irene H. Knapps of Hammond; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
His wife, Shirley Sistrunk Harper; two brothers, Willard and Elmer Harper; and his parents, Washington and Easter Joiner Harper, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 to 10 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the Rev. Jimmy Wall conducts the funeral at 10.
Burial will be at Mitchell Cemetery.

Hughes, 85, a native of Centerville, Miss., died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
The Rev. Alfred Hart will conduct the funeral Thursday at 1 p.m. at Rock Zion Baptist Church, Natalbany, followed by burial at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond.
She is survived by two daughters, Katie Ruth Daniels and Christean Rollins, both of Hammond; two sons, John Singleton Jr. and Henry Singleton, both of Centerville, Miss.; four brothers, 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 33 great-great-grandchildren.

Burial was Monday at Courtney Cemetery
in Holden for Dr. Lyle McFadden.
McFadden, 70, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at his home.
He was retired from his chiropractic practice in Livingston.
He is survived by his wife, Verena Mounce McFadden of Hammond; four sons, Bruce McFadden of Hammond, Marlin McFadden Sr. of Slidell, Lecil McFadden of Dauphine, Ala., and Garlan McFadden of Hammond; two brothers, Ronald McFadden of Belleville, Ill., and Jim McFadden of Swansey, Ill.; three sisters, Pat Kerperien of St. Louis, Judy Glasco of Donnelson, Ill., and Kathy Wayne of Walker; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Neola Donaldson McFadden; and two sons, Geron and Neilan McFadden.
