LILLIE COLEMAN JOHNSON

NEW ORLEANS -- Lillie Coleman Johnson , 79, died Monday, June 7, 2004, at her home.

A native of Darlington, she is survived by one son, Melvin "Chuck" Johnson of New Orleans; two daughters, Betty A. Johnson of New Orleans, and Doris J. "Peaches" Forrestier of New Orleans; one sisters, Minnie c. Harrell of Amite; one brother, Leroy Coleman of Amite; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Major and Maggie S. Coleman.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Zion COGIC, 2118 Dabadoie Street, New Orleans. The Rev. Samuel Richardson will conduct the funeral Saturday at 11 a.m. at Gordon-Richardson Temple of Deliverance COGIC, Amite. Burial will follow at Gordon Chapel Cemetery, Amite.

Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, is in charge.

MICHAEL JOSEPH LEITELL

Born in New Orleans, and a resident at the Hammond Developmental Center of the past forty years, Michael Joseph Leitell, 51, died Wednesday, June 9, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

Survivors include one sister, Antoinette Leitell Olsen of Metairie; and one brother, Daniel Leitell of Tickfaw.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noel and Mary Siggo Leitell; one sister, Jean Leitell Dever; and one twin brother, Joseph Leitell.

Visitation will be Saturday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 11 a.m. until the funeral service at 2 p.m. A funeral service will also be held at Hammond Developmental Center.

Burial will be at Rose Memorial Mausoleum.

OTIS IVY PIERRE SR.

BAPTIST -- Otis Ivy Pierre Sr., 77, died Thursday, June 9, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

A native of Loranger, he is survived by his wife, Lillian William Pierre of Baptist; five sons, Jessi Pierre of Albany, Otis Pierre Jr. of Columbia, Miss., Carlos, Robert and Charles Pierre, all of Baptist; three daughters, Linda Renaux of Henderson, Texas , Ann Waits of Natalbany, and Evelyn Easley of Loranger; and 27 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.

His son, Larry Wayne Pierre; and his parents, Tom and Molly Gay Ard.

Visitation will be today at Hagen Chapel Church, Tickfaw, from 6 to 10 p.m. The Rev. Jim Howell will conduct the funeral Saturday at 10 a.m., and burial will be at Loranger Community Cemetery.

STEVE JOHN VARGO

WATSON -- Steve John Vargo, a native of Albany, died today, June 11, 2004, at Earl K. Long Hospital, Baton Rouge.

He was a heavy equipment, diesel mechanic; and a member of Hungarian Presbyterian Church, Albany.

Survivors include Ernestine Vargo of Watson; one step-son, Donnie Thompson of Baton Rouge, one brother, Charles Vargo of Holden; four sisters, Ethel Uli of Springfield, Mary Ann Blount of Holden, Betty Rose Fricano of Independence, and Julia Hussar of Albany; and three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Mary Vargo; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Saturday at Hungarian Presbyterian Church, Albany, from 10 until the funeral at 11 a.m.

Geisler Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge of the arrangements.

MARY DANTONE LOCASCIO

Mary Dantone Locascio, 94, died Saturday, May 29, 2004, at her home.

A native of Hammond, she is survived by two sons, Sal Locascio of Gainesville, Fla., and Joe Locascio of Pallos Verdes, Calif.; two daughters, Polly L. Richards of Tucson, Ariz., and Marie L. Trimm of Morgan City; two sisters, Anne Biundo of Lafayette and Rose Stassi of Hammond; 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Locascio; her parents, Joseph and Mary Dantone Locascio; four brothers, Joseph, Mitchell, Sam and Vincent Dantone; and two sisters, Sarah D. Hughey and Christine Dantone.

Visitation will be tonight at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, from 6 until 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 until 9:45 a.m. The funeral will be at Holy Ghost Catholic Church at 10.

Burial will follow in Rose Memorial Park Mausoleum.

ANTONIO JOSEPH PECORARO

TICKFAW -- Antonio "Tony" Joseph Pecoraro, 80, died on Saturday, May 29, 2004, at his home in Tickfaw.

Pecoraro was a retired member of the carpenter's union, local No. 1846, of New Orleans. He was a member of Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church in Tickfaw.

Survivors include his wife, Jennie Santangelo Pecoraro of Tickfaw; one daughter, Linda Pecoraro Hendon of Independence; two sons, Antonio "Bubbie" and Gerald Pecoraro, both of Independence; two sisters, Antoinette Pecoraro Dorsa and Angelina Pecoraro Arnone, both of Hammond; four brothers, Nace, Sam and Angelo Pecoraro, all of Tickfaw, and Vince Pecoraro of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Frances Reno Pecoraro; and one brother, Joe Pecoraro.

Burial was today at Colonial Cemetery, Independence.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1040 Calhoun St., New Orleans, LA 70118, to the American Cancer Society, 837 Gravier St., New Orleans, LA 70112, or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 159, Destrehan, LA 70047.

JAMES WILLIAM RICE JR.

HICO, Texas -- James William Rice Jr., 70, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at his home.

Born in Coleman County, a son of James William Rice Sr. and Mary Amanda Jennings Rice, he was a graduate of Santa Anna High School.

He received a bachelor of fine arts degree from the University of Texas at Austin, a master of education degree from Howard Payne College, and a master of fine arts degree from Stephen F. Austin University.

He wrote and illustrated children's books and novels with Pelican Publishing Co., and taught art at Southeastern Louisiana University, Louisiana State University and Dallas Baptist University.

He was also a band director at Hico and Shamrock high schools, a member of Natalbany Baptist Church in Natalbany and a member of the Western Writers of America.

Survivors include his wife, Martha Oustad Rice of Hico; his children, Zel Rice of Tickfaw, Maria Weaver of Hamilton, Texas , Lyn Rice of Blanket, Texas , Patti Rice of Alexandria, Va., and Jason Rice of Stephenville, Texas ; one brother, Eddy Rice of Brownwood, Texas ; one sister, Loretta Angel of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Riley Funeral Home, Hamilton. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Center Valley Cemetery, Hamilton County. The Rev. John Weaver will conduct the service.

ALICE SHERIDAN

Alice "Babysitter" Sheridan, 74, died Sunday, May 30, 2004.

She was a member of the Usher Board and Deaconess Board at Greenfield Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Marian Youngblood and Janice Lawrence, both of Hammond, and Cathy Sheridan Green of Seattle; one sister, Dorothy Lucien of Hammond; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elizabeth McCraney Myers; her husband, Urical Sheridan; one son, Cedric Sheridan and one grandchild.

Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Greenfield Baptist Church. The Rev. Jerry Hanible will conduct the funeral Thursday at the church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.

JASON PAUL THOMPSON

Visitation will be tonight at Geisler Funeral Home in Ponchatoula from 6 to 10 p.m. for Jason Paul Thompson.

Thompson, 25, a Southeastern Louisiana University student, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond, as the result of complications following an accident.

He worked at Spangler Engineering in Hammond and Xtra Innings. He was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church, a member of Masonic Lodge 160, Sigma Tau Gamma, and the Coastal Conservation Association.

He is survived by his parents, Danny Paul Thompson and Libby Giacone Thompson of Hammond; two sisters, Kellie Thompson Hughes of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Courtney Paulette Thompson of Hammond; his grandfather, Paul Thompson of Ponchatoula; his grandmother, Julia Tucker Thompson of Ponchatoula; and his fiance, Stephanie Sharp of Hammond.

His maternal grandfather, Kelly Giacone; and his maternal grandmother, Janie C. Giacone, preceded him in death.

Visitation will continue Wednesday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The funeral will be held at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Rose Memorial Mausoleum in Hammond.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made payable to the Benefit of Jason Thompson at Florida Parishes Bank in Hammond, Tackle Hut in Ponchatoula or the Crescent Bar in Hammond.

CALVIN RAYMOND DAIX SR.

ROBERT -- Calvin Raymond Daix Sr., 72, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

He was a retired employee of Jefferson Parish Water Works in Harahan. He was the former owner of Jefferson Truck Salvage in Harahan until he moved to Robert where he then established "Diamond D Ranch" in 1966 from which he retired in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia R. Daix of Robert; one daughter, Odette Daix Pea of Ponchatoula; two sons, Calvin R. Daix Jr. of Robert, Edwin J. Daix Sr. of Magnolia, Miss.; one stepson, William P. Reno of Robert; one sister, Odette Daix Bono of St. Rose; one brother, Robert "Bobby" Daix Sr. of Bush; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

His parents, Edwin and Clematine Wald Daix; his first wife, Marie Crespo; his second wife, Roselynn Tucker; and two grandchildren, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 10 p.m., and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 2 p.m.

Burial will be at Sand Hill Cemetery.
