ELZY EVANS
INDEPENDENCE -- Burial was Wednesday at Colonial Cemetery, Independence, for Elzy "Buck" Evans, 58, who died Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
A native of Hammond, he was a welder.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Evans of Independence; one son, Chad Joseph Evans of Independence; one daughter, Christy Nicole Evans of Independence; one sister, Judy Barker of Tickfaw; three brothers, Richard Sullivan of Albany, Carl Sullivan of Ponchatoula and Wally Sullivan of Hammond; and his stepfather, Ward Sullivan of Ponchatoula.
He was preceded in death by his father, Elsie Evans; his mother, Katie Hardy Evans Sullivan; and one sister, Vera Jane Newman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, was in charge.
NICK ANTHONY GAGLIANO
Nick Anthony Gagliano, 71, a native of Independence, died today, Oct. 8, 2004, at his home.
He started the North Oaks School of Radiologic Technology with Dr. R.E.L. Stewart, where he was an instructor at the school. He was one of the eight original members of the Louisiana Society of Radiologic Technologist and was president of the society in 1972. He was a charter member of the Krewe of Omega Mardi Gras organization. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, JFK Council 2952.
Survivors include his wife, Grace Pumilia Gagliano of Hammond; two daughters, Vicki Lynn Gagliano Blazevich of Hammond and Stacey Gagliano Parker of Baton Rouge; two sons, Nick Anthony Jr. and Joseph Michael Gagliano, both of Hammond; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Denova Gagliano; his parents, Joseph M. and Rose Piazza Gagliano; and an infant brother.
Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m. with a 7 o'clock vigil service, and Saturday from 8 until 10:45 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Hammond, conducted by the Rev. Marcos Ramos, O.P.
Burial will be at Colonial Cemetery
Mausoleum, Independence.
ELMAS WILSON HARRELL
DENHAM SPRINGS -- Elmas Wilson Harrell, 89, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at his home in Denham Springs.
A native of Greensburg, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Teamsters Local No. 5.
He is survived by one daughter, Delores Weiss of Denham Springs; and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Efferson Harrell; his parents, Cullen Thomas Harrell and Leah Case Varnado Harrell; one sister, Irene Wilson; and seven brothers, Louis, Frank, Oliver, Thomas C., George Leslie, Modie and Leo Harrell.
The Rev. Larry Stewart conducted the funeral today and burial was at Red Bluff Cemetery, Greensburg.
McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, was in charge.
EMILY RUCIE LEA
KENTWOOD -- Emily Rucie Lea, 80, owner of a service station, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at her home near Kentwood.
A native of St. Helena Parish, she is survived by her daughter, Linda Gail Lea Clemons of Kentwood; her son, Garland Lewis Lea Jr. of Kentwood; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Estell Bridges of Greensburg, Melva Lee Welch and Mary Neil Kliesch, both of Kentwood; one brother, Bobby W. Easley of Kentwood.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Garland Lea; her father, Oscar Easley; her mother, Lida Lee Easley; two sisters, Christine Easley and Mildred Megison; and one brothers, Huey Easley.
Visitation will be today at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11. The Rev. Milton Kliesch and the Rev. Joe Cleveland will officiate.
Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood.

LORANGER -- Emily Simmons Morgan, 63, died Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
She was a native of Loranger.

KENTWOOD -- Leona "Lucille" Hoyt Okpako, 50, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Tulane Medical Hospital in New Orleans.
She is survived by her son, Tristian Williams of Osyka, Miss.; one brother, James E. Hoyt of Mt. Airy; one sister, Johnnie H. Harrison of New Orleans.
A son, her daughter, her parents, and her brother preceded her in death.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Union Chapel AME Church. The Rev. Frank Washington , the Rev. Donice Thomas and the Rev. F.C. Stallworth will officiate.
Burial will be at Shady Grove Cemetery.

MARIETTA BLAKEMORE
PONCHATOULA -- Marietta "Marty" Blakemore, a former resident of Albany, died Oct. 2, 2004, at Charity Hospital, New Orleans.
A native of New York, she was a unionized carpenter.
She is survived by her mother Sarah Almodovar of Kenner; and her sister, Rosa Marcello of Brooklyn, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Rafaela Oliveras; her father, Leonard Blakemore; and her grandfather, Miguel Almodovar.
An informal wake service will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Sharon Wells, 29826 South Cafe Line Road, Albany.
United Funeral Services, New Orleans, is in charge.
ANNIE FRANCES PIEDISCALZO GRECO
Annie Frances Piediscalzo Greco, 68, died today, Oct. 6, 2004, at her home.
A native of Hammond, she is survived by her husband, Sam Greco of Hammond; three daughters, Phyllis Albanese of Killian, Frances Pedigo of McComb, Miss., and Michelle Lofton of Baton Rouge; one son, Joseph Greco of Hammond; one sister, Frances Mangano of Hammond; one brother, Joseph Piediscalzo of Hammond; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher and Phillpine Graziano Piediscalzo.
Visitation will be Thursday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Burial will be at Rose Memorial Park Cemetery.
OTTO STOKES JR.
CENTURY, Fla. -- Otto Stokes Jr., 67, died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, in Atmore, Ala.
A native of Kentwood and a former resident of Pensacola, Fla., he was retired from Pensacola Parks and Recreation. He attended Chesbrough Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lindsey Stokes of Century; three sons, Robert Earl Gafford Sr. of Holt, Fla., J.W. Gafford of Century and Ottos Stokes III of Pensacola; two daughters, Barbara Ann Flowers of Pensacola and Ruby Patricia Tolbert of Brewton, Ala.; two brothers, Aubrey Stokes of Tangipahoa and Carley Stokes of Mount Hermon; five sisters, Annie Stokes Jones, Laverne Stokes Wall and Margaret Stokes Magliolo, all of Hammond, and Dorothy Stokes Googe of Baton Rouge and Lexie Stokes Easley of Loranger; and 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto Stokes Sr. and Cora Lee Lebo Stokes; and one brother, James.
The Rev. Gene Stokes conducted the funeral Monday at Eastside Chapel Funeral Home, Atmore, Ala., and burial was at Bay Minette Cemetery.
GENE ELLIS WALL
SPRINGFIELD -- U.S. Army veteran Gene Ellis Wall, 70, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at his home.
A native of Springfield, he is survived by his wife, Shirley Hutchinson Wall of Springfield; one daughter, Carolyn Wall Bass of Springfield; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; five sisters, Florence and Minnie Patterson, Ruth Dufreche, Doris Decota and Linda Fendlason, all of Springfield; and five brothers, E.W., Allen, Sam, Julius and Jack Wall, all of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Evelyn Vicknair Wall; one sister, Winnie Smiley; and one brother, Dennis Wall.
Visitation will be Thursday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 8 a.m. until the funeral at noon. The Rev. Rodney Childers is in charge.
Burial will be at Woodland Baptist Church Cemetery, Springfield.
SARAH LINDA FOSTER HUTCHINSON
Sarah Linda Foster Hutchinson, 63, a native of New Orleans, died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at her home.
She is survived by two daughters, Gwen H. Boutwell of Hammond and Cynthia H. Nesser of Houston; one son, Roy R. Hutchinson Jr. of Robert; six grandchildren; one sister, Rita Horton of Amite; and one brother, Sitman Foster of Jefferson .
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy R. Hutchinson Sr.; her parents, Jesse and Daisy Hutchinson Foster; one sister, Mona Carter; and three brothers, Henry, Jesse Reed and Carl Foster.
Visitation will be Wednesday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 10.
Burial will be at Hutchinson Cemetery.
