RUIZ
LAPLACE - Herman J. Ruiz, 65, a native and resident of Reserve, died Jan. 26, 2002. He was the son of the late Henry and Odette Ruiz and brother of Lawrence, James and Robert Ruiz and the late Audrey Duhe.

He is also survived by 12 nieces and nephews.

Services were Jan. 29 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. Peter Cemetery, Reserve.

STEIN
SOUTH VACHERIE - Bruno Matthew Stein, 61, a native of Vacherie and resident of Chackbay, died Jan. 25, 2002. He was the husband of Corrine Lassere Stein and father of Tammy Oubre and Tommy and Troy Stein.

He was the son of the late Leonce and Margurite Webre Stein and brother of Mary Jane Duet, Clare Hymel, Huey, Ronald, Gary, Roland, Stephen, Edmond, Gerald, Patrick, Mark, Anthony and DrewPeter Stein and the late Mary Margaret, Guy and Claude Stein.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 29 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.

WOMER
DESTREHAN - Raymond "Whitty" David Womer Jr., 76, a native of Iowa, former resident of Harahan, St. Rose and Chatawa, Miss., and resident of Ponchatoula, died Jan. 25, 2002.

He was the husband of the late Doris Gauthreaux Womer and father of Barbara Ayme, Bridget Breaud and R. David Womer III.

He was the son of the late Raymond and Sara Womer, stepson of the late Caroline Womer and brother of June Watterson.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 28 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment at the church cemetery.

BOURGEOIS
CONVENT - Gwen Poche Bourgeois, 50, a native of Lutcher and resident of St. James for 33 years, died Sept. 26, 2003. She was the wife of Francis "B-Bop" Bourgeois and mother of Drake and Ryan Bourgeois.

She was also the daughter of the late Allen and Margaret Roussel Poche, and sister of Allen and Robbie Poche Sr.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 30 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at the church cemetery.

BURHAM
EDGARD - Alice Rita Alfred Burham, 83, a native of Edgard and resident of New Orleans, died Sept. 24, 2003. She was the daughter of the late Fergus and Clarice Chaligny Alfred, and sister of Camille Weber and Bonita James.

She was a retired chandelier draper for Royal Company Antiques.

Services were Sept. 30 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.

CAIRE
EDGARD - Sidney J. Caire Jr., a native and resident of Edgard, died Sept. 24, 2003. He was the husband of the late Marie Therese Caire, and father of Mary Birmingham and John Caire.

He was also the son of the late Sidney Sr. and Annette Jones Caire, and brother of Ella Abadie, Vivian Berthelot, Sophie Grenier, Jerry Farrell, Sister Adele, Sister Laura Ann, Sister Margaret, G. Walton, Warren, E.J. Caire III, and the late Sybil Pedeaux.

He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a noted businessman and sugar planter, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, member of the Knights of Columbus, Euchartist minister for John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Services were Sept. 27 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.

CALLAHAN
LAPLACE - Sonia E. Callahan, 82, a native of Vickburg, Miss., and resident of LaPlace, died Sept. 17, 2003. She is survived by two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were private.

COOPER
VACHERIE - Joseph Cooper, 85, a native of New Orleans and resident of Vacherie, died Sept. 18, 2003. He was the husband of Georgene Garrett Cooper and father of Raymond, Barry, Larry Cooper, Ernest and Elton Williams.

He was also the brother of Rosalie Bincent, Ophelia Gibson, Mary Louise, Emma, Yvonne, Milton, Arthur, John, Calvin and Willie Cooper.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 28 at First Baptist Church of Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery.

JOHNSON
GRAMERCY - Albert "Pelly" Johnson Sr., 79, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Sept. 22, 2003. He was the husband of Ester Washington Johnson and father of Brenda Jackson , Dionne Williams, Lashone, Randall and Roland, and the late Albert Johnson Jr.

He was also the son of the late James Sr. and Annie Hatch Johnson and brother of Albertha Evans, Clara Rayfield and James Johnson Jr.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 28 at Golden Grove Baptist Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina.

TUPPENY
LAPLACE - Alice Lee Bourgeois Tuppeny, 64, a native of LaPlace and resident of Baton Rouge for 16 years, died Sept. 26, 2003. She was the wife of Bill Tuppeny.

She was also the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice Lee Bourgeois, and sister of Hayward Bourgeois.

Services were Sep. 29 in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

VERON
PAULINA - Mary Frances "Cooney" Veron, 66, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Sept. 27, 2003. She was the mother of Donna Waguespack, Margaret Pearce, Mary Sullivan, JoAnn Melancon and Mark Veron.

She was also the daughter of the late Joseph and Adela Dupuy Lambert, and sister of Janis LeBlanc , Catherine LeBlanc , Thilda Maiorana, Sylvia Lambert, and the late Janet LeBlanc and Lowell Lambert.

She is also survived by 15 grandchildren.

Services were Sept. 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.
