A graveside service for Travis Donnel Smith, 21, who died May 4, 2001, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond. The Rev. Otis Brumfield will officiate.
Survivors include his mother, Glory Mae Jackson of Atlanta; his grandmother, Helen Patterson of Hammond; three sisters, Lesha and Aretha Barze and Tolanda Powell, all of Hammond; and one brother, William Barze of Hammond.
His grandfather, Robert Edward Jackson , preceded him in death.

JANICE ARMOUR
SYMRNA, Ga. -- Janice Armour, 41, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at her home.
A native of Independence, she is survived by one son, Eshaun Cohn of San Diego; one daughter, Renata Casimier of New Orleans; four sisters, Jackie Cohn, Selina Morse and Charlene Moore, all of New Orleans, and Andre T. Devore of Lake Charles; one brother, Arthur Devore of New Orleans; and her father, Joseph Cohn of Roseland.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents.
The Rev. Jefphroe Jackson will conduct the funeral Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church, Independence, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Big Zion Cemetery, Roseland.

WILLIE C. ATKINS
KENTWOOD -- Willie C. Atkins, 82, died at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
He was a native of Kentwood and a carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Adlean D. Atkins; 11 daughters, Lavern Carson, Mary Ginn, Cynthia Atkins, Connie Martin, Melonie Mendez, Hazel Brown, Romona Mackey, Cheryl Smith, Terry Turner and Valerie Campbell; four sons, Willie Atkins Jr., Thomas Brown, Stafford Brown and Carl Watkins; three sisters, Mary Brumfield, Thelma Atkins and Lucille Brumfield; one brother, Charles L. Atkins; 35 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
His parents, his first wife, Doris; his sister, Shirley; and his brother, Curtis, all preceded him in death.
Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Angelic Funeral Home, Roseland. The Rev. Celestine Bonds will conduct the funeral Saturday at Oak Grove AME Church, Kentwood, at 1 p.m., and burial will follow at the church cemetery.
RUBY AVANTS
DENHAM SPRINGS -- Ruby Avants, 62, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at her home.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Greenlee of Holden and Dorothy "Dotty" Graham of Denham Springs; four sons, Donald Stewart of Pine Grove, Melvin and Hulon Graham, both of Denham Springs, and Michael Graham of Loranger; two sisters, Irene Cupit of Alabama and Ruby Boudreaux of Satsuma; two brothers, Harry Clayton of Denham Springs and Richard Clayton of Port Allen; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Henry Avants Sr.; her mother and father, Hulon and Joan Clayton; her biological mother, Daisy Clayton; three sisters, Jane Goff, Johnnie Edwards and Marie Zapata; and one brother, Ray "Froggy" Clayton.
Visitation will be at James Chapel Methodist Church, Holden, today from 6 p.m. until Mark Lovett conducts the funeral Friday at 2 p.m.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.

AMITE -- Robert Brown, 94, a native of Angie, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie Brown of Amite; his sons, Donald, Ronald and Tommy Lee Brown, all of Amite, and Robert D. Brown of Terrell, Texas ; three daughters, Elaine Brown of New Orleans, Eloise Brown Marshall of Chicago and Ora D. Williams of Angie; his sister, Lucille Jones of Monroe; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Caroline Brown; and his father, Foster Brown.
Visitation will be Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Rev. Francis Williams will conduct the funeral Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Little Bethel Baptist Church, Amite, and burial will follow at Butler Cemetery, Amite.

Rexol "Rex" Earl Fletcher, 36, a native of Albany, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Moschitta Fletcher; a son, Wilfred "Fletch" Fletcher of Holden; a daughter, Christina Elise Fletcher of Holden; stepdaughters,Valarie Barron and Victoria "Tori" Simmons, both of Hammond; one granddaughter; his parents, Violet Lavigne and Archie Fletcher of Albany; a sister, Rhonda Fletcher Johnson of Albany; and a brother, Randy Fletcher of Albany.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James and Olive Fletcher and Robert and Inez Lavigne.
Visitation will be at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home of Hammond Thursday from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 2 p.m. Burial will be in James Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

A native of Albany, he is survived by his wife, Paula Moschitta Fletcher; one son, Wilford "Fletch" Fletcher of Holden; one daughter, Kristina Alysse Fletcher of Holden; two stepdaughters, Valarie Barron and Victoria "Tori" Simmons, both of Hammond; and one grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Violet Lavigne and Archie Fletcher of Albany; one sister, Rhonda Fletcher Johnson of Albany; and one brother, Randy Fletcher of Albany.

INDEPENDENCE -- Barry Charles Hagler, 57, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Judith Campbell Hagler of Independence; one son, Shawn Hagler of St. Bernard; four stepdaughters, Catherine Keement and Christine Molina, both of Slidell, Cheryl Bourquard of New Orleans and Charlene Weber of Denver; three step-grandchildren; his mother, Pearl Keith Hagler of St. Rose; and two sisters, Suzanne Zabalaoui of Hammond and Stephanie Kelly of St. Rose.
Her father, Lester Hagler, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Saturday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from noon until 5 p.m. The Rev. Mitch Williams will conduct the funeral Saturday at 3 p.m.
ALBERTHA HAYES
BATON ROUGE -- Dennis Mills native Albertha "Aunt Al" Hayes died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Mid City.
She was a retired professional cosmetologist and a teacher's assistant with the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board. She was a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church,a former member of the Senior Choir, a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the Rosa Jackson Study Group of the United Methodist Women.
She is survived by two sisters, Maybelle Morgan of Pine Grove and Hazel Donald of New Orleans; and a brother, Isaac Jackson of New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Jane Butler Moore; and two sisters, Lucy Turner and Flora Williams; and a brother, Grant Marshall Sr.
Visitation will be Friday at St. Mark United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge, from 4 p.m. until the funeral at 6 p.m. The Rev. Joseph Awotwi will officiate. Visitation will also be at Claiborne AME Church, Pine Grove, Saturday from 9 a.m. until dismissal at 10. The Rev. Estell Littlejohn will officiate.
Burial will be at the church cemetery.

JOHN DAVID HITCHENS
NEW ORLEANS -- John "J.D." David Hitchens, 88, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, of congestive heart failure at his home.
He was a member of Pentecostal COGIC and retired from Borden Dairy Company.
A native of Greensburg, he is survived by his his wife, Revie Spears Hitchens of New Orleans; two daughters, Patricia H. Russell of New Orleans and Shirley H. Jackson of Milwaukee; two sons, Isaiah Wicker of New Orleans and Kermit Spears of Long Beach, Calif.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Imogene H. Williams of Independence and Iola R. Hitchens of Amite; and two brothers, Samuel Hitchens and Jim S. Hitchens, both of Amite.
He was preceded in death by his parents, eight sisters, three brothers and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday at MJR Friendly Service, Denham Springs, from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday at Pipken Chapel AME Church, Chipola, at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Johnson Cemetery, Chipola.
GENEVA MOORE
Geneva Moore, 47, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004.
She was employed at Hunt's Plywood.
She is survived by two daughters, Soumekie and Kimberly Moore, both of Hammond; three sons, Ulysses Richardson of Oklahoma City, Jermario Moore and Sentrell Moore, both of Hammond; two sisters, Patricia Ann Brown of Houston and Carolyn Castle of Hammond; five brothers, Ernest Moore, Leo Moore Jr., Robert and Anthony Moore, all of Hammond and Dewitt Moore of Baton Rouge; her mother, C.A. Moore of Hammond; and eight grandchildren.
Her father preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Friday at Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, from 4 to 9 p.m. The Rev. Herbert Wagner will conduct the funeral Saturday at Greater Love COGIC, Hammond, at 1 p.m.
Burial will be at Holly Garden Cemetery, Hammond.
