ARNIE RAY O'BRIAN

JACKSON -- Arnie Ray O'Brian, 66, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center, Baton Rouge.

A laborer and a native of Roseland, he is survived by his wife, Dorinda Mustin O'Brian of Jackson ; one daughter, Bertha O'Brian of Jackson ; two sons, Arnie O'Brian Jr. of Greensburg and Teddy O'Brian of Jackson ; one sister, Imogene Ridgedell of Fayetteville, N.C.; three brothers, J.W. O'Brian and Kenneth O'Brian, both of Jackson , and Alvis O'Brian of Independence; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie Sandifer O'Brian and Johnnie O'Brian Sr.; and two brothers, Johnnie O'Brian Jr. and Werlien O'Brian.

The Rev. Bradley Rushing conducted the funeral today, and burial will was at Arcola-Roseland Cemetery, Arcola.

McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, was in charge.

VERSIE BLOUNT STARKEY

ALBANY -- Versie Blount Starkey, 90, a native of Albany, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

She was retired from Hammond State School.

Survivors include two sons, John Starkey of Pumpkin Center and Amile Starkey of Albany; two sisters, Josephine White and Elaine Degenhardt, both of Albany; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, T.D. and Rebecca Fletcher Blount; one sister, Inez Stafford; three brothers, Ellison, Monroe and Leo Blount; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Promise Baptist Church today from 6 p.m. until the funeral Friday at 11 a.m., officiated by the Rev. Jerry Addison.

Burial will be at New Life Baptist Church, Albany.

Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, is in charge.

MILTON WATTS

PONCHATOULA -- Milton Watts, a native of Hammond, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.

He was a vegetable salesman in the Ponchatoula area.

Survivors are his wife, Jo Balli Watts of Ponchatoula; two sons, Ronnie Watts of Navasota, Texas , and Dennis Watts of Albany; three daughters, Sandra Watts of Independence, Debbie Smith of Hawaii and Ronda Douget of Jennings; one brother, Sammie Watts of Walker; and two sisters, Dorothy Woodard and Violet Traylor, both of Ponchatoula; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, Carl Watts; his parents, James and Mary Clayton Watts; eight brothers, Clarence, Norman, Leslie, Morris, Johnny, Newman, John Wesley and Lawrence "L.J." Watts.

Visitation will be Friday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, from 6 to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 10.

Burial will be at Sand Hill Cemetery.

SHIRLEY GOFF JOHNSON

PONCHATOULA -- A Funeral Mass was held today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ponchatoula, for Shirley Goff Johnson .

Johnson , 75, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Hammond Nursing Home, Hammond.

Survivors include her husband, Lester Johnson Sr. of Ponchatoula; three daughters, Henrietta Johnson of Washington , D.C., Lois Johnson of Lewisville, Texas , and Venola Johnson of Arlington, Va.; three sons, Lester Johnson Jr. of Hammond, Frank Johnson of Ponchatoula and Derrick Johnson of Killian; one sister, Louise Conley of Hammond; two brothers, Clarence Cloy of Ponchatoula and Earl Brumfield; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Her father, Freddie Goff; her mother, Eldora Conley; two sisters, Audrey Duhe and Leona Dear; and three brothers, Willie Goff, James Jackson nd Robert Lee Cloy, preceded her in death.

Burial was at Holly Gardens Cemetery, Hammond,

N.A. James Funeral Home, Hammond, was in charge.

MARY MARIE SCHILLAGE MANZELLA

Mary Marie Schillage Manzella, 84, died Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center.

She was a native of Hammond.

Survivors include her husband, Placito Manzella of Hammond; three daughters, Mary Jane Manzella D'Agostino of Mandeville, Josie Manzella Hanna of Ponchatoula and Angie Manzella Gerage of Hammond; four sons, Jack Manzella of Natalbany, Dominick Manzella of Hammond, Johnny Manzella of Pumpkin Center and Anthony Manzella of Kentwood; a sister, Lucy Rose of San Jose, Calif.; 21 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dominick and Josephine Lala Schillage; four sisters, Angelina Lato, Frances Giovingo, Margaret Gianobile and Lena Scaglione; and two brothers, Tony and Joe Schillage.

Visitation will be at Harry McKneely and Son in Hammond tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. with a vigil service at 7 and Thursday from 8 until 10:10 a.m.

The Dominican Fathers will conduct the funeral at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, and burial will be in Rose Memorial Park Cemetery.

ALTON ELVIN MIZELL

MORGAN CITY -- Alton Elvin Mizell, 62, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Jean Belcher Mizell; his sons, Alton Wayne and Eric Mizell; his daughter, Tamatha Mizell Sykes; two grandchildren, one step-grandchild and two step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Mizell Rainey.

He was preceded in death by his brother and sister, Wayne and Elaine Mizell.

A memorial service was held Sept. 18 at Hargrave Funeral Home, Morgan City.

Donations may be made to Bayou Region Hospice, 195 Corporate Drive, Houma, LA 70364.

PAT O'BRIAN

INDEPENDENCE -- Pat O'Brian, 61, a native of Amite, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, at her home.

Survivors include her husband, Alvis A. O'Brian of Independence; a son, John O'Brian of Hammond; three daughters, Rhonda O. LaNata and Terri O. Rick, both of Robert, and Susan O. Davis of Amite; her mother, Ontee Brewer; a brother, Sam Jones, both of Alabama; and seven grandchildren.

Her father, Carey Jones; two brothers, Louis Ray and Carey Burl Jones; a sister, Marlene O. Peek; and a granddaughter, preceded her in death.

The Rev. Rodney Taylor of Natalbany Baptist Church conducted the funeral this morning at Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home of Hammond, and burial was in Shady Grove Cemetery, Amite.

ANTHONY RAEBURN ARDOIN II

PINEVILLE -- Anthony "Tony" Raeburn Ardoin II, 33, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Allen Parish.

He was a native of Opelousas and a former resident of Covington.

Survivors include his wife, Jill Glover Ardoin, three daughters, Ashlynn, Aden and Aleah, and two sons, Tres and Alexton, all of Pineville; his father and stepmother, Anthony and Carla Ardoin; two sisters, Tonya Ardoin and Angel Lopez; his paternal grandfather, Raeburn Ardoin; his maternal grandmother, Birdie Adams; and two stepsisters, Lainie Cox and Christal Sholes.

His other, Mary Ann Ardoin; paternal grandmother, Vernita Ardoin; and maternal grandfather, Charles Adams, preceded him in death.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at E.J. Fielding Funeral Home, Covington and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until Mass at 11 a.m.

Burial will be at Sandhill Cemetery, Ponchatoula.

DORIS MARIE EFFERSON

LIVINGSTON -- Doris Marie Efferson, 68, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at her home.

A native of Albany, she is survived by two daughters, Edana Hudson and Rhonda Cutrer; two sons, Dudley J. Efferson Jr. and Leonard W. Efferson; one sister, Yvonne D'Vorak; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Duley Jiles Efferson Sr.; her mother, Josephine Oliphant Morgan; her father, Leonard A. Morgan; and a grandchild.

Visitation will be today at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11 a.m. conducted by the Rev. David Cutrer.

Burial will be at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge.

MATTIE TAYLOR BRUMFIELD

Homemaker Mattie Taylor Brumfield, 71, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004.

A native of Bogalusa, she was reared in Folsom.

Survivors include four daughters, Linda Faye Brumfield, Jacqueline Brumfield and Althea Brumfield, all of Hammond and Gwendolyn Brumfield of Franklin; two sons, Rochelle Brumfield of Mandeville and Lloyd Brumfield of Covington; three sisters, Deloris Andrews and Exie Harrison, both of New Orleans and Lula Brumfield of Folsom; and 20 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. David Williams conducted the funeral Saturday and burial was at Hay Hollow Cemetery, Folsom.

Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, was in charge.
