ANNIE VINING FORTENBERRY
BILOXI, Miss. -- Annie Vining Fortenberry, 99, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Dorchester Arms in Ocean Springs.
Formerly of Petal, she was retired from South Central Bell after 35 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Rodenburg Church of Christ of Biloxi.
Survivors include her husband, Ike Sills Fortenberry.
A graveside service was Saturday at Highland Cemetery.
Hulett-Winstead Funeral Home, Hattiesburg, was in charge.
VILMA VEGH GREEN
ALBANY -- Vilma Vegh Green, 97, died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at Hammond Nursing Home.
She was a native of Ohio.
Survivors include her son, Wiley Green Jr. of Idaho Falls, Idaho.; her daughter, Vilma Green of California; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Steve and George Vegh, and her sisters, Lydia Nemeth, Mary Branch, Barbara Ponsock and Susie Vegh.
Visitation will be Monday at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 9:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Stephen Sanders will conduct the religious service at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Albany. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
J.L. HUDSON SR.
GREENSBURG -- J.L. Hudson, 85, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond.
A native of Morely, he was a retired supervisor from Exxon and a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his sister, Lillie Mae Bailey of Baton Rouge; a grandson and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 10 a.m. until the religious service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Greensburg Cemetery.
EDWINA DANIEL ROBERT
Edwina Daniel Robert, 80, died Friday, Sept. 24, 2004, at Landmark Nursing Home in Hammond.
She was a native and resident of Hammond.
Survivors include her daughter, Deborah R. Anderson of Gulfport, Miss.; and her granddaughter.
Her husband, Dave W. Robert preceded her in death.
Visitation will be today at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from noon until the religious service at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens.
JOSEPH VAN JR.
PLAIN DEALING -- Joseph Van Jr., 81, died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Shreveport following a short illness.
Born in Independence, he was reared in Kentwood where he graduated from Kentwood High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy as Chief Petty Officer in World Ward II and once returning home he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and retired in 1964 after 18 years of service. He also retired as a Civil Service Planning Engineer at Barksdale Air Force Base.
He was a member of the Oak Hill Baptist Church and a member of the Bossier Parish Sheriff's Posse; a member of the District 12 Veteran of Foreign Wars Honor Guard and the American Legion; and member of the Wilkes-Strange VFW Post 5099 where he served as quartermaster for 37 years.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Yvonne Perry Van of Plain Dealing; three sons, Stanley Keith Van Sr. of Montecillo, Miss., Perry Van of Bradley, Ark., and Donald Van of Gulfport, Miss.; two daughters, Janice Simon of Pensacola, Fla., and Melanie K. Sayers of Prescott, Ark.; three grandchildren; his sister, Katherine Dufour of Hammond; and his brother, William P. Van of Denham Springs.
His parents, Joseph Van Sr. and Lena Spears Van, preceded him in death as did a sister, Patty Munson, and a grandchild.
A funeral service was held Aug. 30, 2004, at Oak Hill Baptist Church. Burial with military graveside rites conducted by the 12th District Department of Louisiana Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Honor Guard of Bossier City was at Rocky Mount Cemetery
under the direction of Bailey Mortuary of Plain Dealing.

BENERVEY SMITH WATTS
PONCHATOULA -- Benervey Smith "Aunt Nabe" "Minnie" Watts, 86, a retired pharmacy assistant, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
She was born in Bogalusa.
She is survived by her sister, Lydia Marciante McDougald Montecino.
Visitation will be Monday at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, Metairie, from 11 a.m. until the funeral at 1 p.m.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery.

SHEREE ABEL
WALKER -- Sheree Abel, 48, Hammond native and previous owner of Land of Sports in Hammond, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, Summit Hospital in Baton Rouge.
She was a teacher with the Livingston Parish School System at Walker Westside Middle School, and a former employee of Southeastern Louisiana University and an SLU Alumni Center Board member. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and received her MDA degree at SLU.
Abel served on numerous committees for community affairs. She was former president and board member of the Hammond Chamber of Commerce and the Gulf Coast Conservation Association, and past president of Hammond Chapter Ducks Unlimited, as well as former member of the Hammond Jaycees, being chosen as the Woman of the Year for the Louisiana Jaycees.
She was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Hammond.
She is survived by her sister, Melanie Abel Denison of Newport News, Va., and two bothers, Ronald William and Donald William Abel, both of Hammond.
Her parents, Billy Don Abel and Doris Helen Morgan Abel, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be today at The Church of Latter-day Saints, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Friday from 9 until the funeral at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Rose Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sheree Abel Memorial Scholarship, SLU Developmental Foundation, 500 W. University Ave., Hammond, LA 70401, payable to SLU Developmental Foundation.

EVA BARNUM BOTTOLFS
Retired inspector of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture, Eva Barnum Bottolfs, 92, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 2004, at Landmark Nursing Home, Hammond.
A native of Hammond, she was a member of Happywoods Church of God of Abrahamic Faith.
She is survived by one son, Charles Bottolfs of Hammond; and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Samuel Andrew Bottolfs and 12 brothers and sisters, preceded her in death.
The Rev. Jeff Fletcher will conduct the funeral today at 2 p.m. at Geisler Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, and burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery, Hammond.
MATTIE TAYLOR BRUMFIELD
Mattie Taylor Brumfield, 71, a homemaker, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2004.
She was a native of Bogalusa.
Survivors include four daughters, two sons, three sisters, 20 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday at Richardson Funeral home, Hammond, from 6 to 9 p.m. The Rev. David Williams will conduct the funeral Saturday t 11 a.m. at Greater St. James AME Church, Hammond.
Burial will be at Hay Hollow Cemetery, Folsom.
MAURICE DILLON
AMITE -- Maurice Dillon, 61, died at his home, Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004.
The Rev. Francis Williams conducted the funeral Tuesday and burial was at Butler's Cemetery, Amite.
He was survived by one brother, Alphonse Dillon of Fluker.
His parents, Earl and Olivia Dillon; and one brother, Earl Dillon, preceded him in death.
Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, was in charge.
