VIOLA BELL ODEN
AMITE -- Retired nursing assistant Viola Bell Oden, 67, a native of Pine Grove, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Covington.
She is survived by her husband, Roosevelt Oden; three daughters, Rose A. Bell and Wanda Muse, both of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., and Tidia Batiste Burns of Amite; two sons, Roger Bell Jr. and Roy Bell of Ft. Walton Beach; three sisters, Almeasey Foster, Audrey Batiste of Baton Rouge and Linda Cuneo of Slidell; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Roosevelt Foster; two sisters, Helen Foster and Almaretta Jackson .
Visitation will be Saturday at Amite No. 1 COGIC from 9 a.m. until the funeral at 11.
Burial will be at New Hope Cemetery, Pine Grove.

ALBERT SMITH
SPRINGFIELD -- Food service worker Albert Smith died Friday, Oct. 22, 2004.
A native of Springfield he was 53 years old.
Survivors include two sisters, Mary Moore of Hammond and Peggy Gross Johnson of Ponchatoula; and four brothers, Morris Miller of Springfield, Elbert and Melvin Smith, both of Ponchatoula, and Donald Ray Smith of Hammond.
His parents preceded him in death.
Visitation will be tonight at Richardson Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 to 9. The Rev. Jermaine Brumfield will conduct the funeral Friday at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery, Independence.
MARY LOU ETHRIDGE
PONCHATOULA -- Mary Lou Ethridge, 82, a registered nurse for 50 years and a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at her home.
A native of Smithdale, Miss., she was also a foster mother.
Survivors include one son, Harold Ethridge Jr. of Walker; three daughters, Lynn Hoover and Janey Duncan, both of Ponchatoula, and Timmie Korn of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Earl Nettles of Springfield and the Rev. James Nettles of Ponchatoula; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one foster son, Stephen Frutuozo of Franklinton.
Her husband, Harold Ethridge; her parents, Charles and Dennie Mathews Nettles; and one grandchild, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the Rev. Steve Wells conducts the funeral at 10.
Burial will be at Nettles Family Cemetery, Smithdale, Miss.
ELLA COUVILLION FANNING
TICKFAW -- Arrangements are incomplete for Ella Couvillion Fanning, 53, a native of Marksville, who died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at her home.
Survivors include her husband, William Fredrick Fanning Jr. of Tickfaw; one son, William Fredrick "Trey" Fanning III of Hammond; one daughter, Melissa Fanning Higgs of Ponchaotula; her parents, Kirby and Ila Couvillion of Tickfaw; one sister, Peggy Miller of Conroe, Texas ; and one brother, Fred Couvillion of Palmetto, Ga.
Mass will be Thursday at Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church at 1:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. John Restrepo followed by burial at Tickfaw Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a hospice society of one's choice.

LILLIE BOURN POWELL
PONCHATOULA -- Retired restaurant owner Lillie Bourn Powell, 80, died
Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Landmark Nursing Home, Hammond.
A Ponchatoula native, survivors include two sons, Billy Bourn of Costa Rica and Bobby Bourn of Springfield; two daughters, Brenda Wolfe of Ponchatoula and Bonnie Emmerling of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Edna Saucier of Ponchatoula; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Rodney Powell; her parents, Martin and Lou Bryant Forrest; and four brothers, Broxie, Ladimore, Dimon and Andrew Powell, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 9 at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Ponchatoula, and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11:30.
Burial will be at Sand Hill Cemetery, Ponchatoula.
KEVIN SMITH
PONCHATOULA -- Kevin "Austin" Smith, 10, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, as a result of a house fire.
Survivors include his father, Kevin L. Smith of Ponchatoula; two half-sisters, Heather Smith of Hammond and Kellie Smith of Ponchatoula; his maternal grandmother and step-grandfather, Stella Draemer and Donald Lee of Ponchatoula; his maternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Henry "Joey" and Arlene Kraemer of Venice; and his paternal grandmother, Carol Smith of Ponchatoula.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Stephanie Kraemer Smith; his sister, Taylor Rose Smith; and his paternal grandfather, Clyde Smith.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Geisler Funeral Home, Ponchatoula.
Burial will be at Ponchatoula Cemetery.
LOUISE WELLS MCCLELLAN THORNTON
BATON ROUGE -- Louise Wells McClellan Thornton, 93, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004.
Born in in West Grove, Pa., she graduated from the University of Delaware where she was a member of Phi Kappa Phi. She was a mathematics teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Trinity Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her children, Ellen Thornton Wood, Louise Thornton Swartwout, Frances Thornton Flanagan, Mary Thornton Tharp, Norwood Charles Thornton Jr.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Norwood Charles Thornton Sr., preceded her in death.
Visitation will be Thursday at St. Luke Episcopal Church, Baton Rouge, from 1:30 p.m. until the Rev. Brien Kochler conducts the funeral at 2. A graveside service will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, Md.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Cemetery, Chesapeake City, MD 21915, or a charity of one's choice, or St. Luke Episcopal Church, Baton Rouge, 8833 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge.

BENNY C. WALKER
WILMER -- Vietnam U.S. Air Force veteran and retired supervisor for Century Telephone, Benny C. Walker has died.
Walker, 64, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
Survivors include his wife, Gale Webb Walker of Wilmer; one daughter, Amy W. Kent of Fluker; three grandchildren; his mother, Athalone Bond Walker of Wilmer; and two sisters, Diana Conleay and Barbara Walker, both of Greensburg.
His father, Willis W. Walker; and one brother, James R. "Jimbo" Walker, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be today at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11. The Rev. Matt Pierson and the Rev. Luther Stanford will officiate.
Burial will be at Walker Cemetery, Wilmer.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Oak Forest Academy Memorial Fund or Friendship Baptist Church Building Fund.
MARY TOZEL ARDILLO
AMITE -- Mary Tozel Ardillo, 98, died at her home Monday, Oct. 25, 2004.
She was a native of McCall and a housewife. He was also a member of St. Helena Catholic Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary Lou Lee of Amite and Jose Mae Lopinto DePhillips of Amite; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony S. Ardillo; her son, Joseph Tozel; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Tozel; two sisters, Jennie Tozel Leto and Frances Tozel Alessi; and two brothers, Frank and Joseph Tozel.
Visitation will be Wednesday at St. Helena Catholic Church, Amite, from 8 a.m. until the funeral at 11, the Rev. Jack Nutter officiating.
Burial will be at the Amite Cemetery.

LEWIS D. CHAMPION
ROSELAND -- Lewis D. Champion, 71, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond.
A native of Evanston, Ill., he is survived by his wife, Martha O. Champion of Roseland; three sons, Lewis Champion III of Las Vegas and Reginald and Stevie Champion, both of Los Angeles; three daughters, Niechia Champion of Roseland, and Linda and Rita Champion, both of Los Angeles; three sisters, Gwendolyn Armour of Los Angeles, Marsha and Ramona Champion, both of Evanston; one brother, Vernon Champion of Chicago; and 10 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Lewis Champion Sr.; and one sister, Margie Dixon.
Visitation will be Wednesday at Richardson Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 p.m. until the Rev. Eddie Brazil conducts the funeral at 7. Dismissal will be Thursday at 10 a.m., and burial will be at Mount Canaan Church Cemetery.
