A retired employee of Exxon Co. USA with 36 years of service, he died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, in Gonzales. He was 86 and a resident and native of Gonzales. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Prairieville. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Audrey Hebert Duplessis; children and spouses, Carmen Duplessis, Nella Braud Duplessis (daughter-in-law), Gwen and Mike LeBlanc , Judith Duplessis, Jerome T. Duplessis, Charlaine Villar, Greg and Sue Duplessis, Sherry and Dooney Laiche and Todd Mitchel Duplessis; three sisters, Leona Beatty, Leola Babin and Sybil Moore; 20 grandchildren, Sam Duplessis, Linda Cason, Yvette Beamon, Daniel LeBlanc , Jeff LeBlanc , Stephanie Edwards, Karen Guillory, Shannon Cavell, Nicole Roe, Lee Jones, Kami Jones, Lance Villar, Kati Villar, Cody Duplessis, Chris Duplessis, Chad Duplessis, Caleb Duplessis, Courtney Laiche, Andrian Laiche and Tyler Laiche; and 16 great-grandchildren, Glenn Duplessis, Evan Duplessis, Morgan Alice Beamon, Maggie LeBlanc , Brooke LeBlanc , Brennan LeBlanc , Ryan LeBlanc , Taylor Gunter, Shaun Guillory, Abby Guillory, Quentin Cavell, Maia Cavell, Alexander Smith, Madeline Roe, Tommy Jones and Lauren Duplessis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Virginie Duplessis; infant sister, Evelyn Duplessis; three brothers, Joseph P. Duplessis, Carbert Duplessis and Russell Duplessis; an infant daughter, Darlene Duplessis; a son, Glenn Duplessis; and a grandson, Luke Villar. Pallbearers were six of his grandchildren and the 14 other grandchildren were honorary pallbearers.

GULLEDGE, MARY BARR
A resident of Prairieville and native of Hialeah, Fla., she died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005. She was 83. interment in the Carpenter's Chapel Church Cemetery, Prairieville. She is survived by a daughter, Mary Dee Kidder; two sons, Barr McKenna and Lee Gulledge; three half-brothers; and four grandchildren, Kelly Gulledge, Lee Kidder, Cody Kidder and Felicite Kidder. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. She was a member of Carpenter's Chapel Church.

MASON SR., EARL J.
A resident of Gonzales, he died Monday, Jan. 3, 2005, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was 78 and a U.S. Army veteran who received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during World War II. Burial in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. Survived by three daughters, Gilda Aragon, Denise Trahan and Deborah LeJuene; a son, Jeff Fellows; a sister, Rita F. Elisar; three brothers, Rene Mason Jr., Paul Frederic and Oscar "Rocky" Frederic; nine grandchildren, a great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Rene Mason Sr. and Frances Mason; wife, Sandra Mason; and a son, Earl J. Mason Jr. He was a member of VFW Post 81 in Gonzales.

LeBlanc , Rosella Melancon "Dell"
A homemaker and resident of Maurepas, she died at 7:05 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2005, in Baton Rouge. She was 78 and a native of Sorrento. Entombment in Holy Rosary Catholic Church Mausoleum, St. Amant. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Marla LeBlanc Brown and Charlie Brown, Maurepas; sister, Eunice Richardson, Sorrento; brother, Alvin Melancon, Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren, Kevin Bovia, Telly LeBlanc , Larka Elisar, Shanette Becthold and Blain, Jason and Seth LeBlanc ; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Joseph "Bubbie" LeBlanc ; two sons, Joseph Abram "Abe" LeBlanc and Crawford LeBlanc ; parents, Bertrand and Letusia Trabeau Melancon; sister, Alva Vicknair; and four brothers, Herbert, Herman, William and J.B. Melancon.

Temple, Aaron Thomas
A beloved son, Aaron Thomas Temple Passed away in his sleep Sunday, Jan. 2, 2005, at 10:15 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales. God allowed his family and friends to have him for almost 23 years when He called him home. A resident of Prairieville, he was an assistant manager at Popeye's in Gonzales and a native of Baton Rouge. He is survived by his parents, Brian and Lisa Temple; maternal grandparents, Jack and Norma Worthy; paternal grandparents, Mickey and Bob Middleton and Robbie Temple; fiancée, Tasha Lynn Weatherford; 10 aunts and uncles; and 13 cousins. He was blessed with many friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at Chapel on the Campus, Baton Rouge at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, conducted by Dr. Dennis Eenigenburg.

Daigle, Mervin Joseph
A manager for Fred Boyd Amusements and a resident of Gonzales, he died at 7:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005, in Baton Rouge. He was 63, a U.S. Navy veteran and a native of Assumption Parish. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4. Religious service at St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, Gonzales, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Gary Belsome. interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, Veronica LeBlanc Daigle, Gonzales; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wally and Jennifer Daigle, Maurepas, and Sidney and Shelia Edmonston, Springfield; two stepsons, Mike Daigle, Springfield, and Chad and wife Jamie Beeman, Prairieville; stepdaughter, Veronique and husband John Pitre, Galvez; three grandchildren, nine stepgrandchildren, two stepgreat-grandchildren and two former daughters-in-law, Sandi Califf and Sandy Theriot. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Verna Daigle; a stepson, Jeremy Beeman; and a sister, Jackie Demo. Pallbearers will be Wally Daigle, Sidney Edmonston, Joe Robert, Wesley Babin, James LeBlanc and Bruce Millien. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Babin, Jim Window and Terry Andrews.

Diez, Elray Joseph "Potchy"
A resident and native of Donaldsonville, he was entrusted to God's loving care at 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. He was 72 and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War. He retired after 26 dedicated years as a shift foreman with Star Enterprises of Convent. Entombment in As-cension of Our Lord Catholic Church Mausoleum, Donaldsonville. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Murline Simoneaux Diez, Donaldsonville; a son, Brett James Diez, Baton Rouge; two sisters, Patsy Diez Blanchard, Baton Rouge, and Barbara Diez Bourg and husband Roger, Donaldsonville; mother-in-law, Aloysia B. Simoneaux, Napoleonville; sister-in-law, Carmen Bourgeois and husband, Andy; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norman Diez and Maude Rivet Diez; a brother-in-law, Albert "Pete" Blanchard; and father-in-law, Harry T. Simoneaux. Pallbearers were Byron Bourg, Scott Bourg, Jason Bourg, Patrick Blanchard, Russ Babin and Jeff Nickens. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

DURBIN, JOHN B.
He died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004. He was 88, a native of Independence and a resident of Baton Rouge. He was a retired supervisor for Exxon Refinery with 31 years of service. He attended Goodwood Baptist Church. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Janis Durbin of Prairieville and Jerry and Nora Durbin of Onalaska, Texas ; five grandchildren, Sharon, Melissa, Heather, Mindy and Rodney; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Alexis; numerous stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Julia Durbin; his wife, Lavada Thorton Durbin; and a son, Dennis Carl Durbin. interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park.

Gianelloni, Lefebvre Louis II
A retired draftsman with East Baton Rouge Parish and co-owner of Burtville Plantation, he Passed away Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004. He was 69. He was a 1955 graduate of Catholic High School and a proud member of the alumni association. He was an avid reader and was knowledgeable about many subjects. He loved to tell comical stories about interesting events in his life. interment in Roselawn Memorial. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Savoie Gianelloni; a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys Gianelloni Carson and Athol "Buddy" Carson; daughters, JoAnn Savoie Wheat, Prairieville, and Jane Savoie Kimball and husband Jim, Zellwood, Fla.; five grandchildren, Karen Kimball Anthony and husband Tino Anthony, Mount Dora, Fla.; Kevin and wife Robin Kimball, Zellwood, Dereck and wife Mona Wheat, Prairieville, Tiffany and husband David Dyason, Prairieville, and Misty and husband Capt. Gary Whipple II, Fort Polk; 10 great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Tyler Loos, Mount Dora, Kallin and Kaitlyn Kimball, Zellwood, Ashlyn and Austin Wheat, Prairieville, Evans and Grey Dyason, Prairieville, and Parke and Parrish Whipple, Fort Polk. He was preceded in death by his father, Lefebvre Louis Gianelloni and mother, Minna LeBlanc Gianelloni.

MARES, NELLIE COLE
She died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004. She was 65, a native of Abbington, Va, and resident of Gonzales. She is survived by two daughters, Wanda Watson and Pamela Neuwald; one sister; one brother, four grandchildren and 10 greeat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Bertha Ann Cole. The family will have a private service at a later date.

MATHERNE JR., OLIN J. "TOOTIE"
He was born June 23, 1948, and he died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 56 and a resident of French Settlement. He served in the U.S. Army from May 1969 until January 1978. He is survived by his wife, Heide Matherne of French Settlement; mother, Gladys Aydell of French Settlement; a brother, Farrell Matherne of Baton Rouge; four sisters and a brother-in-law, Brenda and Carlos Moreno of Prairieville, Mona Matherne of French Settlement, Cynthia Matherne Navarre of Florida, and S. Danette Aydelle of French Settlement; mother-in-law, Johnetta Weber, Germany; sisters-in-law, Renate Seidt and Ute Wunder; brother-in-law, Manfred Wunder, all of Germany; and numerous nueces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Olin J. Matherne Sr.; paternal grandparents, Clement and Clarisse Matherne; maternal grandparents, Eugene and Una Schexnaider; a great-niece, Kayla Stewart; and special friends, John Wayne Marchand and Clay Berthelot.

Million, Leroy "Marshall"
He died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, in Gonzales, and retired from Uniroyal of Geismar. Burial in New St. John Cemetery. Survived by his mother, Lucinda Million, Gonzales; three sons Jeweaul Million, Plaquemine, and Chad and Preston Million, both of Baton Rouge; two daughters, Donna Fay and Carla Million, both of Baton Rouge; five brothers, five sisters and a number of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Samuel Million II; two brothers, John and Major Million; a sister, Mary Lee Thornton; and a nephew, Terrence Brocks.

Payton, Lawrence Sr. "Poncho"
A retired employee of Burnside Terminal in Burnside and a resident of Sorrento, he died Thursday, Dec. 30, 2004, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Gonzales. He was 66 and a native of Acy. Religious service at Do-Right Full Gospel Baptist Church, Sorrento, at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, conducted by the Rev. Irwin Blouin. interment in Community Cemetery, Brittany. He is survived by his wife, Alice Ricard Payton, Sorrento; father, Esaw Payton, Sorrento; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Viney and Samuel Aikens, Prairieville, Roxann Payton, Gonzales, Brenda and Marvin Martin and Djauana Payton, Baton Rouge; two sons, Lawrence Payton Jr., Prairieville, and Jeffrey Payton, Lake Charles; a daughter-in-law, three sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law, five sisters and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Robert Moses, Dora Thomas, all of Sorrento, Joan Marie and Alvin Ellis, Geismar, Janet Smith and Lisa Morris, both of Sorrento; eight brothers and their spouses, Herman and Barbara Payton, Gonzales, Leonard Payton, Preston and Robin Payton, Charles Payton, Randy Anny, all of Sorrento, Chester Payton, Kenner, Raymond and Kim Payton, Orlando, Fla., Herbert Anny, Baker; 16 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Cecil Anny; father, John Anny; a daughter, Darlene Payton; and sister, Lulabell Payton.

Poma, Cade Albert
A wonderful and loving son, brother and friend Passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 2004, as the result of an automobile accident in Gonzales. He was 19 and a 2004 graduate of St. Amant High School. He was a native and resident of Gonzales. He was enrolled in the spring semester at the Ascension campus of Louisiana Technical College. interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. He is survived by his parents, Craig and Betty Bercegeay Poma, Gonzales; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Dustin Braud, Gonzales, Jacob and Tiffany Poma, Lake Elsinore, Calif., and Jared Poma, Yuna, Ariz.; stepgrandfather, Mark Marino, Spring Hill, Fla.; seven aunts and spouses, Delores and Leon Laiche, Lorraine and Ed "Pudgy" Watts, Ramona and Bobby Brock, Karen Poma, Carla and Dave Newman, Gail and Ed Maier and Carol Marino; two uncles and a spouse, Earl Jr. and Anita Bercegeay and Mark Marino; and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Albert Delphin Poma, Paterson, N.J.; paternal grandmother, Dorothy Poma Marino, Spring Hill; maternal grandparents, Earl and Mildred Arceneaux Bercegeay; and stepgrandfather, W.H. Tanner Jr. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, and was baptized in the Holy Spirit.
