A resident of Prairieville, she died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2003, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 76 and a native of Bogue Chitto, Miss. interment in Prairieville Community Cemetery. She is survived by three sons and their spouses, Daniel and Donna, Terry and Lisa and Todd and Julie; two daughters and spouse, Pat Hurst, and Peggy and Ervin Walker; nine grandsons, Danny "Sugar Bear," Jason, Brad, Travis, Darryl, Derek, Aaron, Paul and Chase; four great-grandchildren, Rhesa, Jake, Gabriel and Gavin; three sisters and two brothers. Preceded in death by her husband, Eldwin "Joe" Melancon; a daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Louis Rossi; parents, Ira and Julia Womack; a sister and five brothers. Pallbearers will be grandsons. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

MONSON, THERESA ACOSTA
A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she died at 12:45 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at her home in Plaquemine. She was 83 and a native of Donaldsonville. interment in Grace Memorial Park. Survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles H. Monson Sr.; a daughter and son-in-law, Laura M. and Godfrey Hebert, Plaquemine; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles H. Jr. and Carol Monson, Plaquemine; a sister, Elma Acosta Steed, Donaldsonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Thomas and Alice Acosta, Donaldsonville; 10 grandchildren, Michelle M. Vought, Brandon Monson, Heath Monson, Cody Hebert, Kate Smith, Gabriel Hebert, Wesley Hebert, Melissa Veillion, Cynthia Thibodeaux and Toni Morgan; spouses of grandchildren, Richard Vought, Rhonda Monson, Elaina Monson, David Smith, Dennis Veillion and Jules Thibodeaux; and 15 great-grandchildren, Raven Monson, Cameron Monson, Madelyn Smith, Dawson Smith, Heather Sistrunk, Ryan Sistrunk, Blaine Williams, Ashley Blanchard, Hunter Sledge, Krystal Sledge, Krista Veillion, Lacey Veillion, Cody Veillion, Blake Thibodeaux and Blaine Thibodeaux. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Elda Fernandez Acosta; two brothers, Elvan and Leonce "Jessie" Acosta; two sisters, Marie Acosta Morris and Agnes Acosta Wooley; and a son, Ronald Paul Monson.

REDERICK, TERRY WALTER "FRED"
A retired welder with Agrico and a resident of French Settlement, he died Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at his residence. He was 54 and a native of Erath. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by his mother, Agnes Frederick, Lafayette; a daughter, Aimee Frederick, St. Amant; two sons, Derek and wife Dessa Frederick, and Kevin Frederick, all of St. Amant; two sisters, Jeanette Engler, Lake Charles, and Mary Madray, Lafayette; a brother, Harry Frederick, Erath; two granddaughters, Carly and Breanna Frederick; two stepbrothers and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Walter Joseph Frederic.

ROGERS, SR. CARL
Retired from Exxon Co. USA and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died at 11:35 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at Summit Hospital. He was 90 and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by two daughters, Betty Rogers of Houston and Wanda Rogers Keel of Baton Rouge; a son, Carl Rogers Jr. of Prairieville; and two grandchildren, Michele Rogers of Prairieville and Donald Keel and wife Cheryl of College Station, Texas . Preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Rogers; parents, William and Ellen Rogers; and a granddaughter, Renée Keel.

SHERMAN, EDWARD E.
Died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003, in New Orleans. He was born in St. Louis on Jan. 21, 1928, and was a resident of St. Amant. His body was donated to science. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was retired from the National Maritime Union of America and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. Survived by his wife, Nella Melancon Sherman of St. Amant; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Tina Sherman of Lutcher; three grandchildren, Lauren, Kayla and Joshua Sherman, all of Lutcher; and two sisters, Bernice Kocialski of Lancaster, N.Y., and Marcella Dublar of Boynton Beach, Fla. Preceded in death by his father, Edward Q. Sherman; mother, Elizabeth J. Sherman; and brother, Marvin Sherman, who were of St. Louis.

SOUTHALL, ANNETTE "PIGGY"
A homemaker and resident of Donaldsonville, she died Thursday, Oct. 2, 2003, at Prevost Memorial Hospital, Donaldsonville. She was 30 and a native of Abend. Burial in Mount Bethel Baptist Church cemetery, Abend. Survived by a son, Donsha Southall; her mother, Anthoinette Johnson of Donaldsonville; three sisters, Trina Rodrigue of Paincourtville, and Trenette Richard and Kizzy Southall, both of Donaldsonville; two brothers, William Southall of Donaldsonville and Percy Link of New Orleans; paternal grandfather, the Rev. Obbie Southall Sr.; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her father, Percy Southall; maternal grandmother, Vivian Coleman; and paternal grandmother, Iola Southall. Williams & Southall Funeral Home, Napoleonville, in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAMS, RUTH GRACE
She fought the good fight, she finished her course and now she is ready to go home to everlasting rest. Born Nov. 11, 1919, Ruth Grace Williams departed this earth on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2003, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital, Gonzales. She was the daughter of the late George Grace and Louverta Rider. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at an early age. Ruth later married Sylvester Williams Jr. and into that union one son, Roosevelt Williams, was born. They later moved to Schenectady, N.Y., where she served as a deaconess at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church. After returning home many, many years later, she rejoined First Mount Carmel Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a deaconess until her homegoing. Ruth had a quick smile and loved to laugh and talk with her relatives and friends. She will be sorely missed but not forgotten. Mourning her departure yet cherishing her precious memories are one son, Roosevelt Williams, Schenectady; four grandsons, Terrance Williams, Bloomington, Ind., and Todd, Travis and Trevor Williams, all of Schenectady; seven great grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Augustus Sr. and Lovey Grace of Gonzales; an aunt, Julia Rider, Jackson ; a stepdaughter, Betty Fletcher, St. Gabriel; a brother-in-law, Robert Williams Sr., New Orleans; four devoted cousins, whom she called her nephews, Hayward Jr., George L., Robert H. and Reginald Grace; and a host of other relatives and devoted friends, including Amanda Grace and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Hills, all of Jackson , Leola Garner, Cleola Jackson , Orilee Sam, Irma L. Bates, Deloris Grace and DeAudrey Redditt. Preceded in death by her parents, George Grace and Louverta Rider; husband, Sylvester Williams Jr.; a daughter-in-law, Yvonne Williams; a stepson, James Williams ( Johnson ); and Hayward Grace Sr., whom she called her father.

COOPER, ODEAL CLARK
A retired LabCorp employee and a resident of Baytown, Texas , she died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, as a result of an automobile accident. She was 65 and a native of Gonzales. Survived by her husband, John Cooper; a son, Darren Cooper; seven grandchildren, Dorchelle, Cameron, Choou, Ruby, Javanté, Printon and Joshua; eight sisters, Ellen Perkins, Baytown, Fannie Sharper and May Carter, both of Gonzales, Carrie Wattis, Convent, Dora Lunkin, Donaldsonville, Linda Johnson and Ruth Melancon, both of Geismar, and Ruby Duckett, Avondale; six brothers, Ben Clark, Henderson Clark and John Clark, all of Gonzales, Cornelius Clark, New Orleans, Phillip Clark, Geismar, and Archille Clark Jr., LaPlace; six brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, six aunts, three uncles and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Terrianna Green; mother and father, Dora and Archille Clark; maternal and paternal grandparents; a sister, Sarah Jane Miller; and two brothers, Ernest and Clarence Clark.

DENNY III, JOHN THOMAS "TOMMY"
"Gone from my sight, but not from my heart." Author unknown. A retired painter and sheet rock finisher, he died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003, at his residence in Baton Rouge. He was 58 and a native of Gramercy. He served in the Louisiana National Guard with the 769th Signal Battalion. Survived by his wife, Margaret Lynn Martin Denny; a daughter and son-in-law, Gina and Daniel Wilson, Prairieville; a son, Drake Denny, Prairieville; stepdaughter and husband, Georgia and Tommy Plaisance, Westwego; stepson and wife, Donald and Jessica Kiely, Baton Rouge; grandchildren, Luke and Stella Wilson, Dustyn and Joshua Plaisance, Gavin, Holden and Levan Kiely; a brother and wife, Buddy and Mary Denny, False River; three sisters and husbands, Chris and Kenny Shirley, Vacaville, Calif., Madeleine and Lynn Lambert, Baton Rouge, and Love and Keith Fogg, Cape Coral, Fla.; mother of his children, Bernadette Nacol Denny, Baton Rouge; and two sisters-in-law, Bea Wooley, Baton Rouge, and Nikki and husband Bill Rue, New Orleans. Preceded in death by two sisters, Diane Arvel Hollister and DeEtte Denny; a niece, Jackie Arvel Dudek; mother, Gladys Denny; and father, Floyd Denny.

EASLEY, SR. JAMES N.
Died at 5:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2003, at his residence in Amite. He was 59 and a native of Independence. interment in Lee Cemetery, Amite. Survived by five daughters, Colinda Barlow, French Settlement, DeAnna Barnes, Gonzales, Carolyn Stokes, Prairieville, Karen Guiteau, Dutchtown, and Jamie Easley, Loranger; four sons, James Easley Jr. and Daniel Easley, both of Amite, Brian Easley, Loranger, and John Easley, French Settlement; mother, Rebecca A Easley, Amite; four sisters, Francis Jones, Amite, Mary Wilkinson, Loranger, Diane Dunlap, Walker, and Catha Gaines, Amite; a brother, Robert Easley, Amite; and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by his father, Jeff Easley.

EVANS, JR. ISRAEL
A retired self-employed upholsterer, he died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at St. James Hospital, Lutcher. He was 74, a native of Donaldsonville and a resident of Vacherie. Burial in St. James Catholic Church Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Stephanie Weber Evans of Vacherie; three daughters and a son-in-law, Evelina E. Cohen of Laurel, Md., Angela and T.L. Barnett, Los Angeles, and Bridget Evans of Kenner; a son, Israel Evans Jr.; a sister, Delores Murray of Chicago; an uncle, Irvin Crayton of New Orleans; two brothers-in-law, Raymond Weber Sr. and John Murray Sr.; seven grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Louvenia and Israel Evans Sr. He was a veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 565 of Vacherie.

JENKINS, MARGARETTE CLAYTON
A beloved mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother and homemaker, she died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center following a long illness with leukemia. She was 78 and a native and resident of Prairieville. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Gene Ruppert; a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence "Larry" and Gail Millet; a sister, Elsie Lilly; five grandsons, John, Brian and Chris Groff, and Juston and Alex Millet; and three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph C. Jenkins; and parents, John and Cleona Cambry Clayton. LANDRY, SR. HENRY JOSEPH
Retired from the U.S. Navy with 20 years of service and retired from the Louisiana Office of Highways with 21 years of service, he died at 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 15, 2003, in Donaldsonville. He was 82, a resident of Donaldsonville and a native of Paincourtville. He was a veteran of World War II. interment in Christian Burial at Ascension Catholic Church Cemetery. Survived by his wife of 53 years, Marie A. Leroy "Tweetsie" Landry, Donaldsonville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy L. and Sonny Denoux and Claire L. and Aaron Cortez, all of Donaldsonville; a son, Henry J. Landry Jr., Donaldsonville; a sister, Rosa Cambre, Baton Rouge; three grandchildren, Mandy and Lindsay Denoux and Tiffany Cortez, all of Donaldsonville; and a great-granddaughter, Kaylee Ann Wiggins. Preceded in death by his parents, Henry C. and Lelia Blanchard Landry; and a sister, Eugenie L. Landry.

LEBLANC, SAMUEL BERNARD "SAM"
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 82, a lifelong resident of Gonzales and an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Gonzales. Survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years, Doris Braud LeBlanc ; a daughter and son-in-law, Juanita and Philip Arceneaux; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve and Mona LeBlanc , and Ricky LeBlanc ; se-ven grandchildren, Todd, Blaine, Dale and Lance Arceneaux, Scott and Joshua LeBlanc , and Stacy L. Carpenter; and three great-grandchildren, Austin, Damon and Cole Arceneaux. Preceded in death by his parents, Sam S. and Denise Blouin LeBlanc ; four sisters, Sadie L. Zimmer, Gladys L. Norman, Maude L. Bourque and Zoe L. Braud; three brothers, Acklin, Alton "Peter" and Ivy LeBlanc ; and a granddaughter, Mandy Arceneaux. Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were John "Poco" Kling, John Morrel, J.O. Berthelot and David Young. He was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church, a life member and past commander of American Legion Post 81, a member of VFW Post 2693, member of National Association of Federal Employees and AARP, and a life member of the Gonzales Jambalaya Association. He served as Jambalaya King in 1995, and was an active member of Louisiana Boys State, a former CYO softball coach and a Boy Scout leader. The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick Stagg, Sandra Knight, Dr. Thomas Quaid, Dr. Robert Hart, the nursing staff on the fifth floor tower of Our Lady of the Lake, and everyone who served as a blood donor. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Theresa Catholic Church Development Fund.

OXFORD, CORA E.
Went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at Harvest Manor Nursing Home, Denham Springs. She was 86 and a resident of Denham Springs. interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by five grandchildren, Randy Oxford and his wife, Kristi, of Central, Larry Oxford and his wife, Diana, of Shepard, Texas , Deanna Perkins and her husband, Phillip, of Denham Springs, Sharla Jarreau and her husband, Scott, of Prairieville, and Mike Oxford of Greenwell Springs; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Theodore L. "Pop" Oxford; parents, Goah Winfield and Della Anderson; a son, Ronald Oxford; and a great-grandson, Houston Oxford.

RAMIREZ, MARY SUE BLANCHARD
A loving wife, mother and grandmother and a homemaker, she died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2003, at 8:49 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales. She was 77, a resident of Gonzales and a native of Plaquemine. interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Baton Rouge. Survived by her husband of 58 years, Paul Ray Ramirez Sr. of Gonzales; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan Elizabeth and Jerry Self of Gonzales; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Ray "Tootie" Jr. and Rhonda Ramirez of Baton Rouge and John William and Sharon Ramirez of Denham Springs; a sister, Mary Alice Kirby of Baker; a brother, Earle Edward Blanchard of Plaquemine; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, William E. and Mrs. James A. Earle Blanchard; and two brothers, James "Palmer" William Blanchard and Gerard "Geesie" Blanchard. She was a former member of the Ladies Altar Society of St. Jerads. The family would like to extend special thanks to St. Elizabeth Hospital, nurses, doctors and staff, and to Leona Ealouis for all of their special care.
