RUSHING SR., WAYNE C.
A resident of Prairieville, he died at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004, at his residence surrounded by family and friends after a long and valiant fight with prostate cancer. He was 56, born Nov. 20, 1947, in Claxton, Ga., and served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967 to 1969 where his exposure to Agent Orange was the major factor in his cancer struggle. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Cheryl Lynn Lott Rushing, who faithfully stood by his side during his two-year struggle. He is also survived by two sons, who were the lights of his life, Wayne C. Rushing Jr. and Wesley C. Rushing, both of Prairieville; daughter-in-law whom he cherished, Rannie Rushing; his father, Calvin Rushing of Claxton; a brother, numerous nieces and nephews, and many loving friends. Preceded in death by his mother, Vera Rushing. Special thanks to Hospice of Baton Rouge, Cancer Services of Baton Rouge and Ourso Funeral Home. Donations may be made in his name at Hibernia National Bank to assist with medical bills.

VELAZQUEZ JR., FRANCISCO
An employee of Basic Industries, Baton Rouge, a resident of Gonzales and native of Galveston, Texas , he died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, in Baton Rouge. He was 20. interment in Household of Faith Cemetery. Survived by his father, Antonio Velazquez of Mexico; mother, Maria Triguero of Gonzales; three sisters, Esmeralda, Brenda and Maria G. Velazquez, all of Gonzales; grandfathers, Jose B. Gonzalez, El Campo, Texas , and Marcelino Velazquez of Mexico; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his grandmothers, Rita V. Gonzalez and Micaela Velazquez; and a cousin, Jose G. Alejo.

CAMBRE, VITA MELIDO
A homemaker and resident of Prairieville, she died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2004, in Prairieville. She was 84 and a native of Brusly. interment in Prairieville Community Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters, Suzette Faye Cambre and Josephine Brown, both of Prairieville, and Clara Cecile Cambre of Mount Vernon, Ore.; and two special friends, Trish and Huey. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Cambre Sr.; parents, Joseph and Josephine Melido; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Pickens; and son, Lester Cambre Jr. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church. Special thanks to Silver Option Program and Generation Hospice.

CAUSEY, RONALD L.
He died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, at Homer Memorial Hospital. interment in Arlington Cemetery, Homer. He was born Nov. 15, 1935, in Brittany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Vincent and Lennie Norton Causey; brother, Marion Davis Causey; and his only son, Gregory Norton Causey. Ron is survived by his wife, Sandra McElwee Causey. He will be greatly missed and cherished by his two daughters from his first marriage to Judith McGehee, Catherine Causey David and Jacquelyn Causey Naquin, and Jacquelyn's sons, Matthew and Jacob. Ron and Sandra had been married for 29 years and they were the parents of Tandy Causey Booth and Gregory Norton Causey. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Mary Causey; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lois and James LeBlanc and Sharon and Mike Stephenson. Ron was a man of many talents. He graduated from Loyola University Law School in 1965 and practiced law in Baton Rouge and in Homer after moving to the family ranch. He was an avid amateur photographer, a gourmet cook and an auctioneer. He started and ran all of the programs at St. John Ranch and particularly, enjoyed supervising the Youth Summer Camp program which has taken place every year since 1994. Pallbearers were Stephen Booth, James LeBlanc , Mike Stephenson, Gehlen Padgett, Mike Hays and Laurence Franks. Ron had a zest for life and was always ready to embark on a new adventure. He loved people and never met a stranger. He prided himself on staying busy, but loved being with his family more than anything. He will be greatly missed.

GOULD, DAVID LEE
A retired manager with BellSouth, David died early Monday morning, Oct. 18, 2004, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 55 and resided in Prairieville. interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park, Baton Rouge. He was preceded in death by his father, Elmer R. Gould. He is survived by his wife, Sue McClure Gould of Prairieville; mother, Della Kinchen Gould of Greenwell Springs; sons, Anthony Lynn Gould and wife Trina Smith Gould of Asheville, N.C., and Jerry Wayne Gould and wife Janet Higginbotham Gould of Shreveport; a brother, Elmer R. Gould II and wife Ester Gould of Clear Lake, Calif.; three grandchildren, Kirsten Morgan Gould and Hannah Peyton Gould of Asheville and David Joseph Gould of Shreveport; nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Clyde Berthelot, Bo Blades, Huey Gueydan, Doug Hillensbeck, Chris Nielsen and Dave Thornhill. SHAHEEN, MICHAEL JOSEPH
Memorial service for Michael Joseph Shaheen will be held Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales. Officiating will be the Rev. Abdrew Richardson. He was 49, a native of White Castle and resident of Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, Lois Landry Shaheen; a daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Dustin Johnson ; three sisters, Beckie Wilson, Betty Gantt and Laurie Shaheen and numerous nieces and nephews. He was prededed in death by his parents, Ernest and Ellee Shaheen.

Viola, Fairy Tate Travis
A retired schoolteacher and resident of Prairieville, she died at 10:22 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, in Gonzales. She was 74 and a native of Tangipahoa. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 10 a.m. until service at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Tangipahoa Baptist Church, with the Rev. Johnny Rogers officiating. interment in Tangipahoa Cemetery. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Kirk Easley of Prairieville; four grandchildren, Travis and Laci Easley, both of Prairieville, Kelly Travis, Michelle Alcido and husband Jim Alcido of Houston; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Thomas Alcido of Houston; a daughter-in-law, Shelly Travis Feltman of Ponchatoula; and three brothers, George Tate, Casey Tate and James "Baby" Tate, all of Tangipahoa. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Kenneth Travis; second husband, Joe Viola; mother, Bessie Hurst Tate; and a son, Kenneth Milton Travis. Pallbearers will be Mike Feltman, Mike Welsh, Mike Williams, Travis Easley, Ronnie Boucher, Kenneth Martin and Gary Tate. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Greensburg Chapter 1580.

Crosby, Emma Carolyn
A resident of Gonzales, she died Friday morning, Nov. 19, 2004, and will sleep awaiting to return with Christ. she was 59, a native of Pike County, Ill., was a licensed practical nurse and after nursing, worked in alcohol and drug counseling and the pharmaceutical industry. She lived several years in the Gonzales area before moving to Florida, only to return three years ago to be close to family and friends and to continue her battle with interstitial lung fibrosis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Gilbert Zumwalt; and a sister, Martha Lynn Zumwalt. Left to await her at the gathering is her husband, Paul; sisters, Suzi Stone and Nancy Lambert; brother, Richard Zumwalt; two sons and their wives, John W. Jr. and Annette R. Herren and James E. and Donna L. Herren; and grandchildren, John W. Herren III, Aaron M. Herren, Jacob E. Herren, Sydney N. Bass and Ethan J. Herren.

Frenette, Brian "Clay"
An electrician and resident of Prairieville, he died at 7 a.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, at his home. He was 32 and a native of St. Joseph. interment in Chenal Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Shalinda Thibodeaux Frenette of Prairieville; two sons, Tristan Gage Frenette and Austin Chase Thibodeaux, both of Prairieville; a sister, Mrs. Kevin (Dana) Melancon, Morganza; father, William "Bill" Frenette, Port Allen; mother, Frances Hestle, St. Joseph; grandmother, Lola Hestle, St. Joseph; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Gaudin Jr., George N.
A retired general manager of Lemann's Farm Supply, who received an honorable discharge from active duty in the U.S. Army during World War II, died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Baton Rouge. He was 82 and a native and resident of Donaldsonville. Entombment in Ascension Mausoleum. Survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George "Buddy" III and Juanita J. Gaudin, Baton Rouge; two grandchildren, Yvette G. Goff and husband Steve Goff, Donaldsonville, and Gary M. Gaudin, Baton Rouge; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Ashley, Katie and Claire Goff; two sisters-in-law, Mae Falcon, Lafayette, and Mercedes "Deecy" Acosta, Donaldsonville; a devoted caregiver, Ann Dill; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Laura Mae Falcon Gaudin; parents, George N. Gaudin Sr. and Gertrude Aydell Gaudin; sister, Yvette Gaudin Badger; and two brothers-in-law, Lawrence "Jay" Falcon Jr. and Lee Falcon Sr.

Haynes, Willie Mae "Toot"
A homemaker and a resident of Donaldsonville, she died at 4:10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18, 2004, at Ascension Care Center, Gonzales. She was 67 and a native of Labadieville. interment in Protestant Cemetery. Survived by her husband, Ivory Haynes Sr., Plaquemine; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda H. and Oliver Chatman of Donaldsonville and Deborah H. and Charles Bennett; three sons, Ivory Jr., Kevin and Michael and wife Avis Haynes, all of Donaldsonville; a sister, Pearl Turner Lee of New Orleans; four brothers, Ernest Fletcher of Labadieville, Isaiah Breaux of San Jose, Calif., Albert Rhines of Clear Lake, Calif., and Abraham Turner Jr. of Belle Rose; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, godchild, three brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Abraham and Cora Jefferson Turner; and two brothers, Walter Sr. and Clarence Rhines. She was a member of the senior choir at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

King, Ruby Dixon
Ruby Dixon King, 89, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, Nov. 26, 2004. She was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Oak Grove and was a longtime resident of Gonzales. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl Dixon and Lilly Heard Dixon; husband, William Alver King Sr.; sister, Cora Dixon King; and brother, Earl D. "E.D." Dixon. She is survived by her sister, Sybil St. Amant; three children, Glenda Ozbun, William A. "Billy" King Jr. and Kenneth Lionel "Lonnie" King; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Gonzales, where she taught Sunday school for many years and sang with the Glory Choir. She was also a member of the Hope Villa Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star. interment in Hope Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, James Cole Purpera, Vincent King Purpera, Owen Reese Purpera, William Alver "Tunney" King III, Shane Michael King and Kenneth Paul King and grandson-in-law, Buford Curry Weber.

Lambert, Lakin H. "Moe"
Lakin H. "Moe" Lambert, a longtime resident of Gonzales, died on Monday, Nov. 22, 2004, after battling a lengthy illness. He was 49 and a native of Decatur, Ala. He is survived by his wife, Judy A. Lambert; four daughters, Wendy Thomas and Latasha, Tiffany and Hanna Lambert; two sons, Kenneth and Jimmy Abbess; eight grandchildren; mother, Ann Foster; three sisters, Gwen Lucker, Jackie Brewer and Henrietta Smith; and two brothers, Herman Lambert Jr. and Donald Foster. Preceded in death by his father, Herman Lambert Sr.; stepfather, Jack Foster; and dear uncle, Lakin Lambert. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed fishing, the outdoors and collecting Harley Davidson memorabilia. But most of all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and friend. Paw Paw Moe will be sorely missed and always remembered by the many people whose lives he touched.

Van Winkle, Audrey Mae Guidry
A retired self-employed beautician and a resident of Gonzales, she died at 1:15 a.m. Friday, Nov., 26, 2004, in Gonzales. She was 83 and a native of Baton Rouge. interment in Mount Zion Baptist Church, Galvez. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, A.J. Jr. and Myrna Parent Guidry, St. Amant; a sister and brother-in-law, Gayan Carpenter and Kenneth Rook, Galvez; six grandchildren and spouses, Jason and Maisie Guidry, Jarett and Marleana Guidry, Jai Guidry, Rodney and Leslie Dupuy, Shane Dupuy and Jason and Chontay Rook Watson; and six great-grandchildren, Hannah and Caleb Guidry, Hunter Guidry, Montana Dupuy and Parker and Abigail Watson. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Adam J. Guidry Sr.; second husband, Francis I. Van Winkle; parents, Gilbert "Catfish" and Florence Hodgeson Carpenter; a daughter, Donna Sue Guidry; and a great-granddaughter, Shealyn Sue Dupuy. Pallbearers were Kenneth Rook, Jason, Jarett and Jai Guidry, Rodney and Shane Dupuy and Leroy St. Pierre. She was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, Galvez and the VFW Post 3693 Ladies Auxiliary.

Villar, Carrie LeBlanc
A homemaker and resident and native of Gonzales, she died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2004, in Gonzales. She was 90. interment in Lake Cemetery, St. Amant. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry Sanchez Sr. and Wilma C. Sanchez, Denham Springs; grandchildren and their spouses, Jerry J. Jr. and Kelli Sanchez, Natalie Marie Sanchez and Marla M. and Clay Durbin, all of St. Amant, and Jon S. Sanchez of Austin, Texas ; great-grandchildren, Jerry J. Sanchez III, Mellia Sanchez, Austin Durbin, Kaz Durbin and Haze Durbin; and great-grandchildren, Teles Sanchez, Gavin J. Barnett and Emalea Baily Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jerry Paul Sanchez; second husband, Telesmar B. "Tom" Villar; parents, Dennis and Lena Smith LeBlanc ; and a sister, Alvirda LeBlanc Louque. Pallbearers were Jerry Sanchez Jr., Jon Sanchez, Jerry Sanchez III, Clay Durbin, Austin Durbin, Mark Cardon and Raymond Hood.
