MOORE, CALVIN SILLIMAN
Died at his home on Monday, July 30, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Elise Bellenot Moore; two sons, Michael Calvin Moore and David Bradley Moore; a stepson, Raymond Clement Horn; two stepdaughters, Sharon Horn Browne and her husband, Jon, and Elaine Horn Midkiff and her husband, Charles. He was born in Baton Rouge on Sept. 20, 1938, and attended Baton Rouge High School. He received a degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech and was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. He did graduate work at LSU. He was preceded in death by his brother, Elbert Edmund Moore Jr.; father, Elbert Edmund Moore; and mother, Mary Mullings Moore. His interests included sailboating and traveling. He retired from Ethyl Corp. in 1996 after 35 years and pursued his interest in traveling. The family would like to express their sincerest appreciation to his many devoted and generous friends for their love and support. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at Parham Chapel in Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road, Richmond, Va., where the family will greet friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bon Secours Hospice at St. Mary's Hospital or the American Cancer Society.

PAUL, CATHERINE VEEDER DUCROS
A homemaker and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 1:15 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Bluebonnet. She was 94 and a native of New Orleans. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 9 a.m. Thursday until memorial services at 11 a.m. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Marcel "Bucky" Paul and Carol LeSaicherre Paul, Baton Rouge; a sister, Clelie Ducros Maier, Houston; two grandchildren, Jim Paul and DeeDee Paul Redden; and three great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Rachel and Christopher Paul. Preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Sam Hagie Paul; and two sisters, Marcel Ducros Caire and Dorothy Ducros Gaidry. Memorial donations may be made to Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, 550 Lobdell Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.

POWELL, MARGARET BROWNE POWELL "MISS POWELL"
A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 86. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, O.G. Browne. She is survived by her husband, James Powell; her son, David P. Browne; a daughter-in-law, Patricia G. Browne; grandchildren, David P. Browne II, Barbara Joly Browne, Charlotte Dupuy Browne and Garrett S. Browne; a granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Browne; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Clayton Brown; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Frances Powell, Ellen Powell and Betty Powell. Miss Powell, as she was known to thousands of her students, arrived in Baton Rouge in 1933 from Meridian, Miss., where she grew up. She joined with Helen Morehead in opening a dancing school. She then joined with Ann Moise in the Powell Moise Dancing School and taught dancing and gymnastics for more than 65 years. To help others, Miss Powell donated her body to LSU Medical School. She was a member of Dance Masters of America, past president and founding member of Dixie Dance Masters and a member of Texas Dance Masters. She was a ball captain in 1972 and a founding member of the Krewe of Iduna, an early member of the Krewe of Romany and a charter member of Entre Nous. She was also a docent at Magnolia Mound and a member of Quota International and the Republican Woman's Club. There will be a memorial Mass at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at 10 a.m. The service will be conducted by her nephew, Monsignor Robert Berggreen. At the request of her family, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

PREVOST, AUBREY ELMO
A retired electrical lineman and a resident and native of Loranger, he died Monday, July 30, 2001, at his home. He was 67. Visitation was at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, Hammond, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation in the funeral home chapel from 8 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Wednesday. interment in Mount Stevens Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Dorothy Hilbun Prevost, Loranger; two daughters, Gwen Prevost Anderson, Ponchatoula, and Cindy Prevost Peterson, Loranger; two sons, Greg Prevost, Moselle, Miss., and Patrick G. Prevost, Loranger; three stepsons, Shannon Sanders, Ricky Sanders and Blane Sanders, all of Kentwood; five sisters, Gladys Newsham, Ponchatoula, Anna Robertson, Metairie, Nellie Sawyer, Hammond, Dorothy Slade, Alexandria, and Faye Lawrence, Hammond; three brothers, Don Prevost, Hammond, Raymond Prevost, Bedico, and Ken Prevost, Hammond; three grandchildren and 10 stepgrandchildren. Preceded in death by his first wife, Sylvia Anne Wiggins Prevost; parents, Fred and Grace Prevost; two sisters, Bonnie Sherwood and Genieve Robertson; and six brothers, Brit, Floyd, Ernest, Marvin, Mack and Clarence Prevost. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

SHAFFETT, ALBERTA
A resident and native of Baton Rouge, she died at 10:10 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at Summit Hospital. She was 90. Visiting at Zoar Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Hull. interment in church cemetery. Survived by a daughter, Billie Garrett; a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Lillian Shaffett; five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Shaffett; and a son, Melvin Shaffett. Welsh Funeral Home, 6700 Florida Blvd., in charge of arrangements.

TONEY, ROBERT JAMES
A resident of Franklinton, he died at 3:40 p.m. Monday, July 30, 2001, at his residence at age 78. He was a retired employee of the Louisiana Department of Highways and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Frances Stringfield Toney of Franklinton; two sons, Patrick Andrew Toney and Terry Lynn Toney, both of Baton Rouge; a brother, Fred Andrew Toney Jr. of Franklinton; two sisters, Eula Grace Hardy of Virginia and Marilyn Vessier of Franklinton; and two grandchildren, Patrick Andrew Toney Jr. and Kristie Marie Toney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Andrew and Mary Alexander Toney. Visitation at Crain Funeral Home Inc. chapel, Franklinton, from 10 a.m. until funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, officiated by the Rev. Lyndle Bullard. Burial in Ellis Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of St. Tammany, 1202 S. Tyler St., Covington LA 70433.

BARNES, ALBERT
A former employee of Capitol Steel and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001. He was 72 and a native of Doloroso, Miss. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until religious services at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Charles H. Tademy. interment in Winnfield Memorial Park. Survived by his wife, Naomi Badie Barnes; four daughters, Angela B. Jones, Amanda B. Paul, Linda Thompson and Anita Brown; three sisters, Maggie B. Batiste, Jessie Sewell and Margret B. Major, all of Baton Rouge; four brothers, the Rev. George, Pearo, Eugene and Abraham Barnes; five grandchildren, Markisha, MarQuisha and Hardy Paul IV, Gregturis Jones and Jamie Johnson . Preceded in death by his parents, George and Matteal E. Barnes; a brother, a son, five brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law and four nephews.

LEBLANC, NORMA JEAN KING
A native of Houston and a longtime resident of St. Gabriel, she went to be with the Lord and joined her beloved family on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at 9:40 p.m. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 8 a.m. Saturday until religious services at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Jim Rentz and the Rev. Wayne Austin. interment in St. Gabriel Cemetery. She is survived by a granddaughter, Patricia LeBlanc and husband Howard Eugene McManon of Cummings, Ga. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edward LeBlanc ; two sons, Edward Joseph LeBlanc and Kenneth Ray LeBlanc ; parents and a brother. She was a member of the Healing Place Church.

ACY, THEDA MCGOWAN
A resident of Denham Springs, she died at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at Summit Hospital. She was 79. Arrangements are pending at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd.

BARROW, WINNIE
A longtime resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 11:42 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. She was 93 and a native of St. Francisville. Wake services at St. Mary Baptist Church from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday. Religious services at the church at 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Conway Knighton. interment in Southern Memorial Gardens. Capital Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

BUCKHALTER, MICHAEL SCOTT
A laboratory technician for LACO Optical and a resident of Denham Springs, he died at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, at Earl K. Long Medical Center, Baton Rouge. He was 29 and a native of Shreveport. Visiting at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday. Religious services at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Mark Crosby. interment in Evergreen Memorial Park. Survived by a sister, Stacie Buckhalter, Denham Springs; a brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Denise Buckhalter, Denham Springs; two nieces, Emilie Robillard and Monica Buckhalter; two nephews, Jacob Buckhalter and Wyatt Buckhalter; maternal grandmother, Imogene Woodyear, Baton Rouge; paternal grandmother, Mary Elizabeth "Honey" Buckhalter, Jena; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Richard Erwin Buckhalter and Gloria Gayle Day Buckhalter. Pallbearers will be Anthony Buckhalter, Damon Buckhalter, Randy Buckhalter, Tommy Morrison, Travis Planchard and Scott Spinks. He was a member of Scott Spinks' Tae Kwon Do Plus.

CLABORN, SR. LEROY
A retiree of LSU and Allied Chemical Corp., he died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 79 and a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home from 10 a.m. Friday until services at noon. interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Preceded in death by his father and mother, Jerry Claborn and Louisian Wilson Claborn; two brothers, Freddie Claborn Sr. and A.D. Alton Claborn; a sister, Jellena Claborn; a stepson, Victor Hill; and a nephew, Leonard Toney Sr. Survived by a devoted and caring wife of 27 years, Vivian Claborn; a wonderful son, Leroy Claborn Jr.; three sisters, Myrtis Magdalene Hills, Baton Rouge, Dimple Mae Bryer, Greensburg, and Christine Claborn, River Ridge; three stepdaughters and spouses, April and Michael Austin, Lusby, Md., Allyson and Curtis Chappell, Fort Washington , Md., and Tracy and Terry Bowie, New Carrollton, Md.; a stepson, Elliott Hill, Baton Rouge; six wonderful grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was a friend to all and will be missed by many.

A retired employee of the Baton Rouge Housing Authority and a resident of Baton Rouge, he died at 9:55 a.m. Monday, Dec. 10, 2001, at Baton Rouge Health Care. He was 91 and a native of Baton Rouge. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Visiting at Elm Park Baptist Church from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. Religious services at the church at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Barry Guy. interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by two daughters, Viola C. Winfield and Shirley C. Stampley and husband Joseph, all of Baton Rouge; three sons, Lawrence Clay and wife Alice and Charles Clay and wife Anniebell, all of Baton Rouge, and Rudolph Clay and wife Judith, Los Angeles; a sister, Cornelia Washington , Baton Rouge; two brothers, Issac Clay and wife Aldean and Enos Clay and wife Willie Mae, all of Baton Rouge; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife of 41 years, Della Thomas Clay; parents, the Rev. John Henry Clay Sr. and Rhoda Donaldson Clay; six brothers and two sisters. He was chairman of the Deacon Board at Elm Park Baptist Church. Rhodes United Fidelity Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.

Religious services at the funeral home chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Stacy Morgan. interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery.
