MRS. OLLIE MAE MARCANTEL

Mrs. Ollie Mae Marcantel, 78, died Monday, June 3, 2002 in Greenhill Nursing Home of DeQuincy.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 5 in First United Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy.

Rev. T. D. Cardwell and Rev. Harlon Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in Big Woods Cemetery under direction of Snider Funeral Home. Visitation will be Wednesday, 9-11:30 a.m. at the funeral home and from noon at the church.

A lifelong resident of DeQuincy, she was a member of First United Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy.

She retired after 19 years of service with Hyatt's Grocery where she worked in the meat market.

Survivors include: three grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren.

MRS. MONTELLA SCARBER

Funeral services for Mrs. Montella Scarber, 79, of DeQuincy, were held Sunday, Aug. 4, in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dwayne Sutton officiated. Burial was in Masonic Cemetery under the direction of Snider Funeral Home.

Mrs. Scarber died Thursday, August. 1, 2002, in her residence.

She was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy. She was a member of the family and Community Education Club, Eastern Star Adah Chapter 34 of DeQuincy and OES Love Chapter 209 of Sulphur.

She was a member of the VFW 3802 Ladies Auxiliary, AARP Chapter 1876 and the DeQuincy Hospital Auxiliary.

Her special awards: Outstanding Band Booster Plaque of 1964; DeQuincy Civic Service Award for 1994; a plaque for service to the DeQuincy Country Fair; the R.S.V.P. Award for 2000 and 2001; and the DeQuincy Federated Service League award for her many years of service to DeQuincy. She was a member of First Baptist Church of DeQuincy.

Survivors include three daughters, Lynda Lee Courville of Houston, Donna Jean Guillory, Lafayette and Debra Lorene Walker, DeQuincy; two brothers, Harold Dunham and Johnny Dunham, both of DeQuincy; one sister, Rosa Mae Dowers, DeQuincy; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church or VFW 3802 Ladies Auxiliary Cancer Research.

MRS. IRENE CLARK BRANEFF

Funeral services for Mrs. Irene "Rennie" Clark Braneff, 83, of Starks were held Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2002, in First Baptist Church of Starks. The Rev. Glen Wagnon officiated. Burial was in Clark Cemetery in Starks under the direction of Snider Funeral Home of DeQuincy.

Mrs. Braneff died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2002, in DeQuincy.

She was a lifelong resident of Starks and was a member of First Baptist Church of Starks.

Survivors include a nephew, Grady Poole, of Lake Charles; two nieces, Connie Clark Grimsley, Deweyville, Tex. and Lillian Siler, Starks.

GRAYLIN THOMPSON

Funeral services for Graylin Thompson, 46, of DeQuincy were held Friday, Aug. 2 in the First United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. T. D. Cardwell officiating. Burial was in Hyatt Cemetery in Fields under the direction of Myers Colonial Funeral Home.

Mr. Thompson died Tuesday, July 30, 2002 in a Lake Charles hospital. He lived in DeQuincy all of his life and was a member of first United Pentecostal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Thompson of Starks; his mother, Nellie Thompson, DeQuincy; two sons, Gaylin Thompson and Waylin Thompson, both of DeQuincy; one step-son, Dustin Barks, DeQuincy; one daughter, Stacy Thompson, DeQuincy; two step-daughters, Samantha Says and Cassie Sparks both of Starks; four brothers, Dan Thompson, Merryville, Jimmy Wayne Thompson, DeQuincy, James Thompson, Starks, Elvis Thompson, DeQuincy; five sisters, Carolyn Rainwater and Alpha Jean Woods , both of DeQuincy, Marsha Perkins, Starks, Michelle Goodman, Ruston, Ark. and Theresa Baldman of Liberty, Tex.; and five grandchildren.

JOHN ARABIE

Funeral services for John Arabie, 81, of Lake Charles, were held Monday, Dec. 2, from Christ The King Catholic Church. The Rev. Wayne LeBleu officiated. Burial was in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Mr. Arabie died Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital.

He was a native of Welsh and lived in Lake Charles most of his life. He was a member of Carpenter's Local 953. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in World War II, and a member of VFW Post 2130. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Etta Young Arabie of Lake Charles; two sons, John Ronald Arabie, DeQuincy and Roger Dale Arabie, Lake Charles; four daughters, Christine Hornsby, Charlotte Darbonne and Juanita Moss, all of Lake Charles, and Stella Daigle, Beaumont, Tex.; 22 grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one brother, Julius Arabie, lake Charles; and one sister, Agnes Martel, Moss Bluff

JAMES SAMUEL BURNS

Funeral services for James Samuel Burns, 77, were .held Wednesday, Nov. 27 in Watson and Sons Chapel with burial in Smith Cemetery, Center, Texas . Rev. Gene Kirkley officiated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Snider Funeral Home.

Mr. Burns died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002 in a nursing center in DeQuincy.

Mr. Burns was born in Wimple, La. He was a native of Center, Tex. He was a resident of Nederland, Tex. for 20 years where he was employed by Southwestern Bell as a telephone lineman and installer, he was a charter member of the Sabine-Neches Coon and Cat Hunters' Association. He was a resident of Jasper, Tex. for 25 years where he worked as an auctioneer, served as a Jasper County sheriff's deputy, and was active in the Jasper East Texas Citizen Band Radio Club. He most recently was a resident of Joaquin, Tex. for 5 years and had resided in DeQuincy for the past year.

Survivors include: two daughters, Mrs. Jeff (Jean) Peterson of DeQuincy and Sandra Ambrose, San Antonio, Tex.; one brother, Chester Burns, Sr., DeBerry, Tex.; two sisters, Dorothy Jean Paxton, Center, Tex. and Mrs. John (Gladys) Moore, Stringtown, Okla.; three grandsons

AVERY J. PIERCE SR.

Funeral services for Avery J. Pierce, Sr., 75, were held Friday, Nov. 29, in Snider Funeral Home. The Rev. T. D. Cardwell officiated. Burial was in Hyatt Cemetery.

Mr. Pierce died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002, in a Lake Charles hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of DeQuincy. He was a journeyman sheet-metal worker with Firestone, Lockheed Aircraft Corp. and Missouri Pacific Railroad for a number of years. He was a carpenter and was owner-operator of Pierce Acres Mobile Home Park. He attended First United Pentecostal Church of DeQuincy, he served in the Army during World War II and in the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Beason Pierce of DeQuincy; one son, Avery J. Pierce Jr., DeQuincy; two stepdaughters, Jackie Lynn Rushing and DeAnna Tyler, both of Tyler, Tex.; three brothers, Sam Pierce, DeQuincy, Jackie Pierce, Fields, and Drew Pierce, Houston; five sisters, Maxine Long, DeRidder, Josephine Moore, Singer, Carolyn Burnett, Oretta, Jean Evelyn Bryant, Niceville, Fla., and Nancy Thomas, Billings, Mont.; and eight grandchildren.

MRS. ANNIE M. THOMPSON

Funeral services for Mrs. Annie M. Thompson, 91, were held Tuesday, Dec. 2 in First Baptist Church of Starks. Rev. Tony Bourque officiated. Burial was in Miller Cemetery under direction of Snider Funeral Home.

Mrs. Thompson died December 1, 2002 in a Sulphur hospital.

A life resident of Starks, she was a long time owner of Starks Community Grocery and a crossing guard at Starks High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors include: two sons, Billy R. Thompson of Starks, and Dwaine L. Thompson, Georgetown, Tex.; two daughters, Edith Bourgeois, Richardson, Tex. and Janice Reel, Starks; one brother, Sam Miller, Starks; two sisters, Arlene Livingston and Zilla Rainwater, both of Starks; 12 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

MRS. LOTTIE DOYLE

Funeral services for Mrs. Lottie Doyle, 87, of Starks, were held Thursday, Jan. 23 from Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks. The Rev. Jeremy Shields and Rev. Tommy Jackson officiated. Burial was in Doyle Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Doyle died Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2003 at a local hospital.

Mrs. Doyle was a native of Bon Weir, Tex. and had lived in Starks most of her life. She was a retired cafeteria worker for the Calcasieu Parish School Board. She was a member of Calvary Apostolic Church in Starks.

She is survived by five sons: Johnny and Mack Doyle, both of Starks, Larry and C. L. Fountain, both of Starks and Johnny Fountain, Sealy, Tex.; three daughters, Ann Jackson , Baytown, Tex., sharon Gore, Starks, Betty Garren, Athens, Tenn.; twenty-two grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

MRS. DOROTHY "DOT" MILAM

Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Milam, 62, were held Monday, Jan. 27, in Snider Chapel. Ronald Young officiated with burial in Perkins Cemetery.

Mrs. Milam died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003 in her residence in DeQuincy.

A native of Kentucky, she was a resident of DeQuincy since 1975. She was an office manager with Communicomm Cable of DeQuincy numerous years. She was a Jehovah's Witness.

Survivors include her husband, Darrell Milam of DeQuincy; one son, Jonathan Milam, DeQuincy; one daughter, Alanna Ashford, California; three brothers, Willis Duffer and Jim Duffer, both of Kentucky and Bill Duffer of Sulphur; three sisters, Norma Jean LeBlanc , Sulphur, Wanda Jones, DeQuin-cy and Margaret Hansby, Kentucky.

MRS. MILDRED L. OLIVER

Funeral services for Mrs. Mildred Leona Oliver, 69, were held Friday, Jan. 24, in Myers-Colonial Funeral Home of DeQuincy. The Rev. R. T. Bridges officiated. Burial was in Hager Cemetery in DeQuincy.

Mrs. Oliver died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, in her residence in Lake Charles.

She was a native of DeQuincy and moved to Lake Charles in 1954.

Survivors include three daughters, Rose Fontenot of Lake Charles, Rhonda Burnett, Sulphur and Robin Jones, Gillis; two sisters, Mary Jo Burley, Metairie and Marcella Cato, Lone Star, Tex.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
