HAYES, DELLA EVELYN KIMBERLIN (MRS. RUFUS D.)
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Della Evelyn Kimberlin Hayes died peacefully in Baton Rouge at 12:05 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 15, 1913, in Sulphur, she resided in Baton Rouge for more than 60 years. She was a graduate of Louisiana College and a former member of Chapter W of PEO. She spent her life dedicated to family, church and community service. Survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Judge Rufus D. Hayes; her three daughters, Della Odom Hayes, Evelyn Kimberlin Hayes, M.D., and Nancy Naomi Hayes Bass; her six grandchildren, Charles F. Boyd, Rufus H. Boyd, John H. Donnes, Michael D. Bass, Becky Bass Seale and Chris C. Bass; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Lan and Binh Dinh and their children, Suong, Phuong, Amy, Evelyn and David, whom she considered her adopted Vietnamese family. Preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Charles N. Kimberlin; her mother, Della Odom Kimberlin; and two brothers, Dr. Charles N. Kimberlin Jr. and Gibson O. Kimberlin. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and Binh Dinh. Honorary pallbearers are Carroll Bass and Frank Boyd. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 11:30 a.m. until religious services at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Dr. George Haile. interment was in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation for the loving care given by the staff of Ollie Steele Burden Manor.

LEE, JR. SAMUEL "SAMMY LEE" "SUNNY"
A retired professional painter and a resident and native of Baton Rouge, he died at 8:42 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 58. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was awarded the Bronze Star. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home, 7221 Plank Road, from 4 p.m. Monday until religious services at 7 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Keno Spurlock and the Rev. Charlie Handy. Dismissal at 10 a.m. Tuesday. interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. Survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Elizabeth and Sampson Duplessis Sr., and Stacey Stevens; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerome and Tonya McCreary; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Woodrow Thomas and Anna and Henry Robinson; two foster sisters, Twana Dixon and husband Daniel and Bettie Sims; a foster brother, Frank Ferdinand; an aunt, Mamie Lee; and eight grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Sr. and Clementine "Gertie" Lee; a brother, Elbert "Roy" Lee; and a niece, Kimberly Williams. Pallbearers will be Freddie Lee Sr., Nathaniel Coleman, Alvin Roy Jackson , Bruce Brown, David West and William Creft. Honorary pallbearers are Tromaine Carter, Sampson Duplessis, Frank Ferdinand, Ralph Jenkins, Bobby Lee, Jerome McCreary, Fredrick Reed, Henry Robinson and Woodrow Thomas.

LEFEBVRE, LUCILLE SIMONEAUX
A homemaker and doctor's assistant, she died at 9:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at River West Medical Center. She was 81, a native of Paincourtville and resident of Plaquemine. Visiting at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine, from 10 a.m. Monday until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., celebrated by the Rev. Joe Camilleri. interment in Grace Memorial Park. Survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mae Navarre, Plaquemine, Marion and Douglas Flatau, Plaquemine, and Mary "Bootie" Tamplain, Donaldsonville; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Alvine "Baye" Simoneaux, Baton Rouge; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, John Malcom "Blackie" Lefebvre; parents, Henry and Stella Oufnac Simoneaux; and two brothers, Herbert and Lloyd J. Simoneaux. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Plaquemine, or to a charity of your choice. Special thanks to Dr. James E. Grace and caregivers Cleo Dupard, Rita Redden and Jannette Trahan.

MELIET, THELMA MCLAUGHLIN
A loving mother and homemaker, she died at 9:10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at her residence. She was 84, a resident of Watson and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. until religious services at 7 p.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Milford Walters. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, McBeth and Fred Betz; a son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Terry Meliet; a sister, Margie Lee, and nine grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Hubert V. Meliet; a son, Buel Brown; a daughter, Mary Brown; and a sister, Natalie Bliss.

NORWOOD, SYBIL CHANEY
A resident and native of Pride, she died at 9:52 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Lane Memorial Hospital in Zachary. She was 75. Visiting was at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. Visiting at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, Pride, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. Darwin Hall and the Rev. Dale Phillips. interment in Ballard Family Cemetery. Survived by her husband of 56 years, C.J. Norwood of Pride; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy N. and Manny Garza of Spring, Texas ; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug and Sandy Norwood and Bruce and Arlene Norwood, all of Pride; a brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Evelyn Chaney of Baton Rouge; a niece and nephew; six grandchildren, Shane Norwood and wife Rhonda, Brock Norwood and wife Debbie, Jordon Garza, Kelby Garza, Lane Norwood Jr. and wife Kelli and April Norwood; and two great-grandchildren, Grant Norwood and Ragan Griffin. Preceded in death by her parents, Ivy and Ida Noble Chaney. Pallbearers will be Shane, Brock and Lane Norwood, Kerry Chaney, Robert McConnell and Carl Forbes. She was a member of Sandy Creek Baptist Church.

ROBERT, VALLIE HERNANDEZ
A homemaker and resident of Burnside, she died at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2001, in Baton Rouge. She was 89 and a native of White Castle. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday. Visiting at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Darrow, from 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Gerald Young, Kenneth Smith and Deacon Albert Ellis. interment in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales. Survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Val Ann and Ray E. Holder, Gonzales; six sons and daughters-in-law, Roland J. and Catherine H. "Kay" Robert, Gayle and Jeannie S. Robert, Harry P. and Jeanne Robert, Alvin and Theresa Robert, Stephen and Randi Robert and Don C. and Mikki Robert; a sister, Margie Smith, Baton Rouge; two brothers, Roy Hernandez and Jimmy Hernandez, both of Baton Rouge; 28 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Roland J. Robert; parents, Adam Eloy and Carmelite Sedoina Falcon Hernandez; two brothers, Ernest and Ray Hernandez; three sisters, Nita Marchand, Amy Ratchke and Anna Ellis; and a daughter-in-law, Myrna Melancon Robert. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Roland Robert III, Chad Robert, Blake Robert, Chip Robert, Woody Harvey, Al Robert Jr. Keith Robert and Jacques Robert. She was a member of St. Anthony Altar Society, Ascension Home Demonstration Club, Pink Ladies of Ascension Hospital, advisory board of FNB and former president of Robert Distributors.

SCHEXNAYDER, DOROTHY CROOK
Retired from the Louisiana Highway Department and the city-parish, she died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at The Retirement Center. She was 90, a resident of Baton Rouge and native of Hammond. Visiting at First Christian Church, 8484 Old Hammond Highway, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. Monday, conducted by the Rev. William Mackie. interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Survived by a brother and his wife, Hubert D. Crook and Lillian Crook of Baton Rouge; two nephews, William DeWitt Crook of Baton Rouge and Byard Weems of Tyler, Texas ; a niece, Beth Weems Seller of Meridian, Miss.; and extended family, Mary and Tom Arceneaux and their family. Preceded in death by her husband, L.J. Schenxayder; parents, George W. Crook and Grace Gould Crook; a sister, Zola Weems; and a brother, Dana Crook. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and age 85, she died Friday morning, Nov. 9, 2001, at her residence in Jackson . Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Clinton, from 9 a.m. Monday until memorial services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Alvin Hall. Survived by two daughters, Adelle W. Quinn, Wilson, and Marie W. Sisson and husband Neal, Marietta, Ga.; two sons, Tom Woods ide Jr. and wife Aline Newton, Jackson , and George Woods ide and wife Wally Percy of St. Francisville; a sister, Lottie Harris, Marksville; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas M. Woods ide; and a son-in-law, Ralph E. Quinn. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.

A resident of Norco, she died at 4:31 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2001. She was 68 and a native of Acy. She was the beloved wife of John Barraco; mother and mother-in-law of Marilyn B. and Gary Morris of Destrehan, Kathy "Kat" Trepagnier of LaPlace, Johnny and Trudie Barraco of Gramercy and Donnie and Vicki Barraco of LaPlace; grandmother of Stephanie Bartholemy, Kristie, Amy, Lori and Adam Trepagnier, David, Ashley and John Barraco, and Alex and Andy Morris; great-grandmother of René Bartholemy III; daughter of the late Adam Paul and Lena Vicknair Petite; and sister of Ada Montz, Rosie Leitz, Sonnie Everhardt and the late Algie Petite. She was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and Sacred Heart Ladies Altar Society. Visiting at H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Norco from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
