Retired from Exxon, he died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001, at his residence. He was 72, a resident and native of Baton Rouge. He was a veteran of the Naval Reserve. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 3:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Visiting at the funeral home chapel from 10 a.m. until religious services at noon Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Sean Sheehy. interment in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Eula Mae Cannon Moran; a daughter, Debra Moran; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony "Deano" Moran and Dunbar Burel Moran; four grandchildren, Bridget, Christine, Christopher and Leslie; two great-grandchildren, Ashlie and Billy; a sister, Jacquelyn "Jacki" Moran; three brothers, Salvador, Lawrence and Batiste Moran; a sister-in-law, Theresa Hebert Moran, and numerous other loving family members. Preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Agnes Scardina Moran; stepmother, Olivia Shutz Moran; and a sister, Sarah Moran Pinegar. A special recognition goes to Trinity Hospice, especially Marie Carrol and Margaret Wilson for their excellent care and attention and love given as they helped and continue to help our family through all our crises due to illness. He was a member of the Election Committee of the Stancola Medical Center and elected treasurer of the Stancola Medical Board of Directors. NESSELHUF, ELIZABETH B.
Born Margaret Elizabeth Brewer on Sept. 28, 1908, in Manzanola, Colo., she died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, in Birmingham, Ala., at the home of her granddaughter. She was 93 and a resident of Baton Rouge for 62 years before moving to Birmingham in 1997. Visitation at Greenoaks Funeral Home, 9595 Florida Blvd., from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and in the chapel from 10 a.m. until services at noon Monday. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Fred A. and Beverly L. Nesselhuf of Prairieville; a sister, Barbara B. Harris of San Antonio; four granddaughters, Linda K. Bottoms and husband Stephen of Birmingham, Elizabeth N. Bateman and husband David, and Lori N. Schmolke and husband Robert, all of Baton Rouge, and Kay Keller of Lafayette; two grandsons, John Fred Nesselhuf of Jackson ville, Fla., and Chad Louis Miranda of Baton Rouge; four great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandson; and a niece and nephew, Debbie Harris and Gerald C. Harris, both of San Antonio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis A. Nesselhuf; a daughter, Peggy Lou Nesselhuf Miranda; and parents, Fred A. and Mina P. Brewer. Pallbearers will be John Fred Nesselhuf, Chad Louis Miranda, Stephen Bottoms, David Bateman, Chris Maranto, Steven Maranto, Gerald C. Harris and Ryan Kelgren.

RAMKE, HELEN WATSON
A longtime resident and native of Baton Rouge, she Passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 2, 2001, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center at the age of 85. She was a retired cosmetology instructor and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Her longtime wish was to donate her body to science for the advancement of medical education and research. She was elegant, delicate and had a graceful touch of flare. Memorial services will be held at Indian Mound Baptist Church, 16755 Liberty Road, Greenwell Springs, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, conducted by the Rev. James Efferson. Survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Terry G. and Carol M. Crawford, Wayne D. and Donna Crawford, and Douglas M. Crawford, all of Baton Rouge; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Edith Thoms, Gladys Stephens and Nell Devall; and a sister-in-law, Gertie T. Watson, all of Baton Rouge. Preceded in death by her husband, Diedrich Ramke, Ph.D.; a daughter, Carolyn Crystal Barrow; and a grandson, Christopher Meadors. She left behind the tools of survival, warmth, nourishment and love. May you walk in the light.

RICHARDSON, URGENT E. "PEPPER"
A truck driver with BFI, he died at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, 2001, at Earl K. Long Medical Center. He was 25 and a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until religious services at 2 p.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Darrell Sands. Inter-ment in Gilbert Memorial Park. Survived by a special friend, Jacqueline Watson; mother, Eva Richardson Douzier; stepfather, James Colbert Jr.; three daughters, Urge'janiqua Richardson, Meisha Watson and Talayssia Watson; six sisters, Faith, Rosie, Ashley, Candance and Keirra Richardson and Althea Augustine; and three brothers, Benjamin, Wallace and James Richardson. Preceded in death by his father, Charles Douzier.

ROUSSEL, DOREL J.
A retired operator with Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corp. and a resident of Gonzales, he died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 75 and a native of Hester. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home, Gonzales, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and after 1 p.m. Sunday. Religious services at the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday, conducted by the Rev. Jim Law. interment in Lusk Cemetery. Survived by his wife, Virginia E. Roussel, Gonzales; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian J. and Carol G. Roussel, Hester; two sisters, Myrtis Millet, Pride, and Margie Becnel, Gramercy; two brothers, Edgard Roussel Jr. and Calvin Roussel, both of Gramercy; two grandchildren, Brittany and Megan Roussel; four stepchildren, Louis Wilkinson, Georgia, Keith Wilkinson, Pearl River, Edith Borel, Baton Rouge, and Karen Seiwert, Pride; and six stepgrandchildren, Brian and Jennifer Borel, Chris and Stephanie Seiwert and Amber and Courtney Wilkinson. Preceded in death by his parents, Edgard Roussel and Rose Mae Poch; three sisters, Hazel Babin, Dorothy Hamilton and Hildred Verett; and two brothers, Hudson and Woodrow Roussel.

SCALLAN, MAE RUTH
A retired Calcasieu Parish school teacher, with 25 years of service, and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 2 a.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 84 and a native of Alexandria. Visiting at Welsh Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, with recitation of the rosary at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. Monday, celebrated by the Rev. Vic Messina. interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. Survived by two sisters, Hazel S. Broussard, Baton Rouge, and Doris S. Wilcox, Arizona; and a brother, Leo C. Scallan Sr., Baton Rouge. Preceded in death by her parents, Gaston Joseph Scallan Sr. and Mittie Marie Chandoir Scallan; and a brother, Gaston Joseph Scallan Jr. She received a bachelor of arts degree from Northwestern Louisiana University and a master's degree from LSU. STEIL, RUTH LYDIA HAUSER
A resident of Baker, she died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Lane Memorial Hospital, Zachary. She was 65 and a native of Chickasaw County, Iowa. Visiting at Charlet Funeral Home Inc., Zachary, from 9 a.m. Tuesday until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Tom Dolph. interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery, Zachary. Survived by her husband of 45 years, Donald F. Steil, Baker; two daughters, Jean and husband Sam Steel, Baker, and Mary Jo Tucker, Elkhart, Ind.; a son, Ricky D. Steil, Elkhart; five sisters, Myrtle Wait, Elkhart, Marion Stone, Elyria, Ohio, Doris Greens Weig, St. James City, Fla., Nona Dubbe, Stedman, N.C., and Wilma Klemmer, Oshkosh, Wis.; a brother, John Hauser, Oshkosh; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, August and Edith Wheathon Hauser; and a brother, Raymond Hauser; and a granddaughter, Ashley Steil.

VAVASSEUR, IRENE PINSONAT "BENNIE"
Born Oct. 18, 1925, in Mix, and died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at her home in Denham Springs. She was a native of Mix and a former resident of New Roads. Visiting was held at Niland's Funeral Home, New Roads, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Visiting at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Saturday. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church, New Roads, at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial in False River Memorial Park. A dedicated and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Margaret and Al Laurent of New Roads, and Nancy and Jimmy Gilbert of Denham Springs; three sons and their wives, John and Betty Vavasseur of Ventress, Ike and Christiene Vavasseur of Denham Springs, and Michael and Deborah Vavasseur of Greenwell Springs; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and stepgrandchildren that she loved just the same. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Joseph Vavasseur; and son, Mark Steven Vavasseur; parents, Edward and Leonie DéLage Pinsonat; a sister, Ann P. Janis; two brothers, Edvar Pinsonat Sr. and Tanner Pinsonat; and two nephews. Special remembrance to her special friends, Martha and David Bryan, whom she considered to be her children. Also longtime friends, Julia Pinsonat, Ada Brunett, Ellen May, Ida Bonaventure, Tee and Theresa Plauche, Anna Lee Swindler, Elsie Miller, Catherine Artetia, Marian Gilbert and Polly Hilburn. VEGLIA, SISTER MARY EUGENIE
A sister of St. Joseph of Medaille for 74 years, she died at 11:25 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001. The former Mae Clothilde Veglia, daughter of the late Eugenie Duraynaud Veglia and Louis Anthony Veglia; sister of Gloria Stieffel, and the late Claude and Ambrose Veglia. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was 90, a native of New Orleans and resident of Our Lady of Wisdom Health Care Center. Sister taught at St. Ann and St. Rose schools in New Orleans, St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, New Roads and Bay St. Louis, Miss., and at McNicholas High School in Cincinnati. She was an archivist for the Sisters of St. Joseph in Baton Rouge. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral Mass to be celebrated in the chapel of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1200 Mirabeau Ave., New Orleans, at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, with the Rev. Paul Schott, S.J., celebrant. interment in St. Louis No. 3 Cemetery. Visitation at the Sisters of St. Joseph chapel, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 2001, with prayer services at 5 p.m. Visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday. WILSON, LAURA MECHE
A homemaker and resident of Zachary, she died at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8, 2001, at Zachary Manor Nursing Home. She was 87 and a native of Church Point. Visiting at Rabenhorst Funeral Home East, 11000 Florida Blvd., from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Saturday, conducted by Dr. Kevin Hand of Zoar Baptist Church. Survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph Samuel and Betty Tarkington, Central; a grandson and his wife, Samuel Vick and Jennifer Tarkington, Central; and two great-grandchildren, Samantha Tarkington and Jessica Morris.
