HEWLING
METAIRIE - Frances Ragusa Hewling, 59, a native of New Orleans and resident of Destrehan for 15 years, died March 28, 2002. She was the wife of Richard Hewling and mother of Lisa Ann Paul.
She was the daughter of Frank J. Ragusa and sister of Barbara Ragusa.
Services were April 2 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Lake Lawn Park.
JOSEPH
MT. AIRY - Henry Joseph Jr., 82, a native and resident of Mt. Airy, died March 28, 2002. He was the husband of the late Gussie Mae Joseph and father of Veronica Scott, Valerie Keller, Beulah Sarah and Hurrian, Henry, Rodney, retired Lt. Col. Ricky and the Rev. Reginald Joseph. He was also the companion of Rosa Mae Desselle.
He was the son of the late Henry Sr. and Alfretta Joseph and brother of Vivian Braxton, Audrey Bourgeois and Russell Joseph.
He is also survived by 43 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as a sergeant. He received the EAMETO Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Arrowhead Metal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a retired scale operator at Godchaux-Henderson Sugar Refinery.
Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Baptist Church, Mt. Airy, with interment at Golden Wreath Cemetery, Lutcher. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.
MAGEE
RESERVE - Delores Griffin Magee, 69, a native of LaPlace and resident of Reserve, died March 29, 2002. She was the former wife of Johnnie Magee Sr. and mother of Johnnie Jr., Joseph, Gilbert, Imogene and the late Robert Magee.
She was the daughter of Alter Mae Toppins and the late Joseph Griffin and sister of Vivian Griffin, Horace Jr. and Clarence Toppins and the late Marion Evans.
She is also survived by four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
She was a retired teacher.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at Rescue Mission Missionary Baptist Church, Reserve, with interment at Magee Family Cemetery, Franklinton. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.
MITCHELL
GRETNA - Coralie Steib Mitchell, 93, a native of Vacherie and resident of Gretna for many years, died March 28, 2002. She was the wife of the late Edgar Mitchell.
She was the daughter of the late Armelise and Mathilda Dumas Steib and sister of Eugenia Oubre, Natalie Steib and the late Lelia Oubre and Carl Steib. Services were April 1 at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Gretna, with interment at McDonoughville Cemetery, Gretna.
TERRANOVA
DES ALLEMANDS - Mary Delatte Terranova, 70, a native of Vacherie and resident of Des Allemands, died March 29, 2002. She was the wife of Joseph Terranova and mother of Pauline Folse, Dianne Scariano and Joseph Jr. and Paul Terranova.
She was the daughter of the late Paul and Pauline Steib Delatte and sister of Betty Becnel and Norbert and the late Donald and Norman "Pee-Wee" Delatte.
She is also survived by six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were April 1 at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, Des Allemands, with interment at the church mausoleum.
BLAISE
METAIRIE - Paula Hymel Blaise, 97, a native of Luling and resident of Chalmette for 70 years, died May 14, 2002. She was the wife of the late Gaspar Blaise Sr. and mother of Melvin and Gaspar Blaise Jr.
She was the sister of Wilfred Hymel.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were May 17 at St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, Metairie, with interment at St. Roch No. 2 Cemetery.
DUMAS
SOUTH VACHERIE - Albert Dumas, 64, a native and resident of Vacherie, died May 9, 2002. He was the son of the late Joshua Sr. and Mary Dumas and brother of Eliven Phillips, Diane Simoneaux, Julia Bailey, Mable Bailey and Joseph, Eugene, Simon, Joshua Jr. and Dennis Dumas Sr.
Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 7 a.m.
FAUCHEUX
METAIRIE - Allen Joseph Faucheux, 81, a native of LaPlace and resident of Metairie for 51 years, died May 13, 2002. He was the husband of Winnie Tassin Faucheux and father of Susan Pitts and Brian Faucheux.
He was the brother of Therese McTopy, Elmo Faucheux and the late Rose Keller.
He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and retired from RCA Service Co.
Services were May 16 at Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Garden of Memories.
GAUTIER
EDGARD - Perry John Gautier, 74, a native of Wallace and resident of Lucy, died May 14, 2002. He was the husband of Audrey Sorapuru Gautier and father of Margaret Brown, Marlene Dapremont, Karen Mitchell, Charlene Davis, Leslie Ross and Ja'Nice, Keith, Eric, David and Shane Gautier.
He was the son of Georgiana Oubre Gautier and the late Withmore Gautier Sr. and brother of Allison Roussell, Deola Duronslet and Lois, Stanford, Larry, Withmore Jr. and Elwood Gautier.
He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Avondale Shipyard of 42 years.
Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.
GROW
VACHERIE - George "K-Line" Grow, 79, a native and resident of Wallace, died May 12, 2002. He was the husband of Margaret Joseph Grow and father of Sheilia Baloney and Hamilton and the late George Grow Jr.
He was the son of the late Aurelien and Augustine Mitchell Grow and brother of Bernadine Bartholomew, Pearl Clark and Pierre, Lazin, Aurelien and the late John Grow.
He is also survived by three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services were May 16 at St. Phillip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.
JOSEPH
RESERVE - Eldon Lonnie Joseph died at birth May 1, 2002. He was the son of Eldon and Naomi Joseph and the brother of Nai'Shaun and RoShon Joseph.
He was the grandson of Lonnie and Rowena Brown and Mildred Joseph and Willie Strickland.
Graveside services were May 7 at Zion Travelers Cemetery, Reserve.
NELSON
NEW ORLEANS - Vera Eugene Nelson, 87, a native of St. Rose and resident of New Orleans for 52 years, died May 14, 2002. She was the mother of Doris Ellis, Lubertha Craig, Eska Dubose, Alvera Ringo, Ann Legaux and Shedrick, LaRue and Martin Nelson.
She was the sister of Geneva Tillery and James Eugene.
She is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was active with New Hope Baptist Church as a secretary, on the Usher Board, with Sunday School and as president of Women's Day.
Services were May 17 at New Hope Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Resthaven Cemetery.
