Gloria Jones

Funeral services for Gloria Daspit Jones, 79 of DeQuincy, will be at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 4, 2004 in the Snider Funeral Home Chapel. Her son, Pastor Hardy Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Perkins Cemetery, under the direction of Snider Funeral Home.

Mrs. Jones died Thursday, April 1, 2004 in the DeQuincy Memorial Hospital. Visitation hours will be at the funeral home on Saturday, April 3, 2004 from 3:00 P.M. until 10:00 P.M. and on Sunday, April 4, 2004 from 9:00 A.M. until service time.

Mrs. Jones was born October 15, 1924 in Cheneyville, Louisiana to Alden and Beatrice Daspit. She was raised in New Orleans where she graduated from the Macdonna High School in 1941. It was in New Orleans where she meet Horace Lynn Jones and they were married on September 2, 1943 in the Central Baptist Church. In 1945, they moved to DeQuincy until they moved to Baton Rouge in 1961. It was in 1975 that they returned back to DeQuincy. Mrs. Jones was a member of the DeQuincy First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for numerous years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a charter member of the DeQuincy Friendship Club and was Cub Scout Den Mother. Mrs. Jones loved reading, collectables, decorating, LSU Football, and was a political companion to her husband Horace Lynn Jones during his political career.

Survivors include her children, Sandy Treme and husband Butch of DeQuincy, Hardy Jones and wife Jill of Biloxi, Mississippi, Gay Rainwater and husband Danny of DeQuincy and Lynn Jones and wife Beverly of DeQuincy; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Lynn Jones and her mother, Beatrice Daspit.

Virginia Hosch

Virginia "Jenny" Hosch, 75, died Thursday, April 1, 2004, at her residence.

She was a native of Marshall, Texas and had moved to the Vinton area in November of 2003 from Huffman, Texas . Mrs. Hosch was a member of Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church of God. She was very involved with her church, her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She retired from the City of Houston in 1992. Mrs. Hosch was Parking Facilitator at George W. Bush Intercontinental Airport and had also worked at Atascita Golf Course.

Survivors include her loving husband, William Leroy Hosch of Vinton; six children, Cheryl and husband Eddie Martin of Vinton, Jeanette and husband David Spidel of Spring, Texas , Brenda and husband Jerry Merchant of Vinton, Donald Standridge and wife Theresa of Shurbert, Nebraska, Barbara and husband Joe Koncaba of Humble, Texas and Sherrye and husband Brian Maharh; one brother, W.D. Oney and wife Margie of Shreveport, Louisiana ; 20 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen Wilfer.

Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, in Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church of God in Huffman, Texas . The Rev. Jimmy Rogers will officiate. A graveside service will be in Reed Cemetery, Saturday at 4 p.m. under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Vinton.

Ruby Walters

Ruby Walters, 82, of Sulphur died at 8:07 P.M. Tuesday, Feb. 10, in her home with her family and friends around her.

She was a native of Kenton, Tenn. and has lived in Sulphur for 53 years. She was a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Sulphur. As a member there she was very involved in church activities locally, state and on a national level. Care Help of Sulphur was a great love of hers. She was also active in Camp Fire Girls, American Legion, Calcasieu Chapter of the Christian Women United. She was a member of Women's Bowling Association for 55 years. She was in business with her husband as owners of Walters Glass Shop in Sulphur.

Survivors include her husband of 64 years, Carl Walters; one son, Charles Eugene Walters and his wife Kathy of Sarasota, Florida; four daughters, Madelyn Walters Moss and her husband Gerald of San Antonio, Texas , Carla Walters Bright and her husband Marlin, Priscilla Walters Istre and her husband Kenneth, and Charlene Walters Grimmett and her husband Larry all of Sulphur; twelve grandchildren, Jana Bright Fontenot and her husband Ed, Derrick Wayne Istre and his wife Samantha, Emily Joy Grimmett, all of Sulphur; Sherry Kaye Desselle of Lubbock, Texas ; Vicky Desselle Farmer and her husband Jason of Nederland, Texas ; Haley Bright Marotto and her husband Chris of Attleboro, Massachusetts; John Wayne Desselle of Baton Rouge; Michael Wade Istre and his wife Michelle of Moss Bluff; Michelle Lee Istre of Tacoma, Washington ; Dallas Wayne Grimmett and his wife Penny of Dallas, Texas ; Jennifer Waters Taylor and her husband Robert of Atlanta, Georgia; and Alan Eugene Walters of Tallahassee, Florida. Thirteen great-grandchildren: Erika, Kayla, and Meagan Swinney, Morgan, Taylor and Madison Fontenot all of Sulphur; Dylan, Jake and Gavin Farmer of Nederland; Aley Stewart and Nathan Marotto of Massachusetts; Julia and Isabel Istre of Moss Bluff; She is also survived by one sister, Charlie Maxine Fields of Beaumont, Texas and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Nitia Edwards, her sister Ruth Underhill Fulmer, Mai Tilghman, and Carrie Askew; and grand-daughters Marla Faye Bright Swinney, Trena Lee Grimmett and Chelsea Farmer.

Visitation will be at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1700 Maplewood Drive, Sulphur from 10:00 A.M.- 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, Feb. 12, and on Friday from 10:00 A.M.- 3:00 P.M. Her funeral will be Friday, Feb. 13, at 3:00 P.M. at the church. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers Ruby asks that donations be made to the memorial fund of Holy Trinity.

Linda Arnaud

Linda Sadler Simmons Arnaud, 60, of Houston formerly of Sulphur Passed away on Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 after a heroic battle with cancer.

She was a 1961 graduate of Sulphur High School and Delta School Business. She was a former employee of Delta Downs Race Track and various other area businesses before moving to Houston several years ago.

Preceded in death by her husband, P.J. (Percy) Arnaud and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sadler of Sulphur.

She is survived by her children: daughter, Keri Simmons Turner of Houston; sons Barry Simmons and Marc Arnaud of Woodlands; sister and brother-in-law Jeri and Woody Woods of Katy; sister Shirley (Rusty) of Canada; brother Robert Sadler of Vinton and four grandchildren.

Cremation was immediate and those who wish to may make a contribution to the American Cancer Society in her memory. She will be missed by all those whose life she touched so graciously and those of who loved her.

Wanda Mestayer

Funeral services for Wanda G. Mestayer, 62, of Carlyss, will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Robison Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. W.T. Darnell will officiate. Burial will follow in Dutch Cove Cemetery under the direction of the funeral home.

Visitation will be held in the funeral home chapel Monday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Testimonials will be given Monday at 7 p.m. nd the Bayou Jazz Kings will perform following the testimonials as per request by Wanda. Visitation will continue Tuesday from 8 a.m. until time of services.

Mrs. Mestayer died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, in a Lake Charles hospital.

She was born May 20, 1940, in Ferriday to Chester and Helen Ann Wagner. She was a graduate of Ferriday High School. She had worked at the Carlyss Circle K store for over five years. Shen then accepted a position with BFI in Quality Control where she had worked for 10 years.

Survivors include her husband, Lionel J. Mestayer of Carlyss; one son, Shannon T. Mestayer; two daughters, Meshell Williams of Westlake and Latisha Lewis of LeBleu; and 17 grandchildren.

Gregory Roy

A memorial service for Gregory Jacob Roy, 42, of Lake Charles, will be held Monday at 6 p.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Lake Charles. Deacon Dan Landry will officiate. The body will be cremated.

Mr. Roy died Friday, June 20, 2003 at 2 p.m. in his residence.

Don Hook

Don Hook, 58, of Calcasieu Parish died peacefully at 7:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2003 in a Lake Charles hospital.

Mr. Hook leaves a legacy of service to his community and devotion to his family. Although he was born in Jennings, Don lived most of his life in Calcasieu Parish. He was a well known craftsman and building contractor, known for bringing the extraordinary to life with his capable hands. Don graduated from Sulphur High School and attended McNeese State University.

Two beloved and talented daughters survive Mr. Hook, Chalanda Hook serves as a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hermann Children's Hospital and Donna Balin is a Certified Financial PlannerŠ practitioner. Her husband, Dr. Scott Balin, is a chiropractor in private practice. He is also survived by his very best friend, Ms. Lou Banker of Vinton. Other family members include his sister, Thelma Sweeney and her two children, Rick Sweeney and Jodi Pedersen of Lake Charles. Among the multitude of other friends and relatives are Clyde "Sonny" and Clara Eccles who maintained a constant vigil at his bedside until Don passed from this world into the next.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Richard Heard of Houston will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. until 10 p.m. on Thursday and will resume at 8 a.m. Friday until the time of service.

Jennifer Stizlein

Funeral arrangements for Jennifer Michele Stizlein, 21, of LeBleu Settlement will be announced by Johnson Funeral Home of Lake Charles. Ms. Stizlein died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003 at her residence.

Blanche Keith

"In My Father's house are many dwelling places; if it were not so I would have told you, for I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also John 14:2,3 NASB.

A memorial service for Blanche Ryder Keith was held Sunday at First Baptist Deaf Church, 2539 Brightside Driver, Baton Rouge, La. The Rev. Arnold Austin officiated.

Blanche Passed away in her home Saturday morning, Sept. 27, 2003. She was 85 years old. She was born in Norwood on Aug. 20, 1918. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Blanche loved her family and friends, was very content with her life and loved visiting with all people. She attended school at Louisiana School for the Deaf.

Blanche is survived by her children, Lenora Keith Martin and husband Don of Sulphur; Patricia Keith Watts of Baton Rouge and Thomas R. Keith and wife Jolie of St. Francisville; one sister, Hilda Ryder Hanna of Baton Rouge; grandchildren and great-grandchildren Lynn Watts Duncan, Dannin and David of Ga.; Ronny L. Watts and wife Stacy, Tyler, Lauren and Shelby Morris of Ga.; Don Martin II and sons, Alex, Adam and Andrew Martin, Craig Martin and wife Sharon, Lauren Moore and Tyler Martin of Sulphur; Danielle and Natalie Johnson and new grandson, Riley Keith of St. Francisville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Maida Riley Ryder, her husband Frank F. Keith Jr., sisters Marjorie Ryder McCartney, Esther Ryder, Verbois and her brother, Charlie Ryder.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Baptist Deaf Church in her memory.

Sara H. McCollum

SLIDELL -- Sara H. McCollum died on Wednesday, November 14, 2001 at her residence of congestive heart failure.

She was 64.

A native of Pensacola, FL and resident of Slidell for the past 24 years, she was a retired St. Tammany Parish Public School Teacher.

She is survived by two sons, Tom R. and Paul B. Rose; two daughters, Roberta Hodgen and Phyllis Cappell; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. tomorrow at Community Christian Church, with Rev. Ansley Orfila officiating.

Eula May Winn

SLIDELL -- Eula May Winn died on her birthday, Friday, January 11, 2002, at Slidell Guest House.

She was 97.

A native of New Orleans and a resident of Slidell, she was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

She was the daughter of the late John McKnight Winn and Celestine Moran Winn; sister of Jane Moulin, William Donnels, Margaret Martello, John Winn and the late Philip and Chester Winn.
