Leon W. Cunningham

SLIDELL -- Leon W. Cunningham of Slidell died Wednesday, January 30, 2002, at his residence from lung cancer.

He was 77.

A native of Abbeville, LA, he had been a resident of Slidell for 52 years. He was a U.S. Army WWII veteran and a retired paint foreman for Southern Ship Building in Slidell.

Cunningham was the husband of Jewel M. Cunningham; father of Starr C. Haaga of Slidell; son of the late James Milton and Minnie Beasley Cunningham; brother of Earl Cunningham of Slidell, Milton Cunningham of Tampa, FL, and the late John Cunningham, James Cunningham, Irene Summerlin and Frances Magers; and grandfather of Brett C. Haaga and Ashley H. Speed.

He is also survived by two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 1, at Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell, at 11 a.m.

Rev. Bob Heustess, officiating.

Visitation will be held today from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. and also on Friday after 9 a.m. until funeral time.

interment in Forest Lawn Mausoleum.

Donations to Slidell Memorial Hospice preferred in lieu of flowers.

Arrangements by Honaker Funeral Home, Slidell.

Anthony Tyrone Jones

SLIDELL -- Anthony Tyrone Jones of Slidell died Saturday, January 26, 2002, in Slidell due to complications from kidney failure.

He was 26.

A native of New Orleans, he had been a resident of Slidell for the past 12 years. He was a self-employed construction worker for ECO Builders.

Jones was the husband of Marie Jones; son of Helen Marie Jones; father of Ian Carruthers; and brother of Iron, Kieron and Eric Sanders, and Shantana and Artheia Jones.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 2, at Mt. Olive AME Church, Slidell, at 1 p.m.

Visitation will also be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time.

interment in Slidell Memorial Cemetery.

Arrangements by Schoen Funeral Home, Slidell.

Natalie Pekinto

SLIDELL -- Natalie Pekinto died on Sunday, June 2, 2002, in a car-train accident. She was 20.

A native of Marrero, and lifelong resident of Pearl River, Pekinto was a waitress.

She was the daughter of Gerald Francis Pekinto and Kathleen Ann Mangin Pekinto; sister of Michael Lemoine of Pearl River, Jerrith Pekinto of Bay St. Louis, Miss., and Stacey Bercegeay of Pearl River; the granddaughter of Ethel Pekinto of Bay St. Louis, and the late Joe Pekinto, Miriam Broussard Mangin, and Joseph Mangin.

A funeral Mass will be held Thursday, June 6, at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Pearl River. Visitation will follow at Williams Funeral Home, Pearl River, on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., and a funeral service will follow at the funeral home at 3 p.m.

interment in the Pearl River Cemetery.

Chad Michael Young

SLIDELL -- Chad Michael Young died Sunday, June 2, 2002 from injuries sustained in a car accident. He was 17.

A native of Covington and a lifelong resident of Slidell, Young was a student at Delgado Community College.

He was the son of Deborah Young Gelpi of Slidell and the late James Gelpi; brother of Joey Young of Slidell, Justin Young of Slidell, Troy Gelpi of Lacombe, Jonathan Gabriel of Covington, Chris Young of Lafayette, the late Jay Gelpi, Michelle Gelpi of Slidell, and the late Denise Gelpi.

Services will be held at Williams Funeral Home Thursday at 3 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until funeral time. interment will follow in Pearl River Cemetery.

Guy Robert Molinary, Sr.

SLIDELL -- Guy Robert Molinary, Sr., of Slidell, died Thursday, October 3, 2002, at his residence. He was 76.

A resident of Slidell, Molinary was a member of Electrical Workers Local 130.

He is survived by his wife, Jackie Gervais Molinary; his son, Guy Molinary, Jr.; his daughters, Betty Molinary White and Gay Molinary Saltzman; his step-daughter, Cindy Lay Elsensohn; his brother, George Molinary, Sr.; his sisters, Mildred Alessi and Rose Mary Trapani; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-granchildren.

Services will be held today, Oct. 9, at 8 30 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home in Slidell. Visitation will be today from 7-10 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gerrard F. Ruggiero

SLIDELL -- Gerrard F. Ruggiero, of Slidell, died Wednesday, November 27, 2002, at Northshore Regional Medical Center. He was 82.

A native of Brooklyn, NY, former longtime resident of Long Island, NY, and resident of Slidell since 1984, Ruggiero was a former owner of a trucking company. He was an usher and parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church.

He was the husband of the late Mildred O. Ruggiero; father of Joseph A. Ruggiero; son of the late Carmine and Grace W. Ruggiero; brother of the late Carmine Ruggiero, Jr., and Howard Ruggiero; and grandfather of Christopher, Heather and Brian Ruggiero.

Memorial services with mass will be held at St. Margaret Mary Church on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. Rev. Frank Candalisa will officiate. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date in St. Charles Cemetery in Long Island. In lieu of flowers, masses are preferred. Local arrangements are by Honaker Funeral Home.

George "Uncle George" Alexander Tarver

PICAYUNE -- George "Uncle George" Alexander Tarver, of Picayune, died Tuesday, February 4, 2003. He was 71.

A native of Vicksburg, Miss. and resident of Picayune, Tarver was a retired self-employed mechanic and U.S. veteran. He was also a member of the Pentecostal faith.

He is survived by two sons, George Tarver and Vernon Duncan; three daughters, Cindy Carranza, Mary Hensiek and Diane Smith; three sisters, Leona Callender, Faye Neceaise and Lily Herrington of Pearl River; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Services will be held at Picayune Funeral Home Chapel today, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. Rev. Virgil Skipper will officiate. Visitation will be today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. interment will be in the New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune under the direction of Picayune Funeral Home.

Ollie Bibbins

SLIDELL - Ollie Bibbins died at his residence on Sunday, April 6, 2003 of cancer. He was 68.

A native of St. Francisville, LA, Bibbens was a life long resident of Slidell, LA and a retired employee of Boh Brothers Construction Company. He was husband to Patricia Domino and father to David Bibbins, Corey Bibbins, Michelle Bibbins, Joann Wilson and the late Ollie Bibbins, Jr.

All arrangements are being done by Doyle's Funeral Home in Slidell. Visitation will be held on April 12, 2003 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service at 11 a.m. Repast will followat Moody-Harrison Pavillion. Internment will be at the Little Zion B.C. in Alton, La.

Bernice Kittrell Fox

SLIDELL - Bernice Kittrell Fox died Sunday, April 6, 2003 at Live Oak Village Assisted Living Center. She was 96.

Fox was a native of Mississippi and a resident of Slidell. She was a retired civil service agent with the United States Air Force. She was wife to the late Joanthan C. Kittrell and C. B. Fox. She was mother to Charles Kittrell of California and William Kittrell of Austin, TX and grandmother to four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be officiated by Reverend Tim Smith on Thursday, April 10, 2003 at 10 a.m. at Pearl River United Methodist Church, Hwy. 41, Pearl River, La. interment will be at Pinecrest Cemetary in Mobile, AL.

Dorothy Ellen Sorjonen

SLIDELL -- Dorothy Ellen Sorjonen of Slidell died on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 at Slidell Memorial Hospital.

She was 85 years of age.

She was the wife of the late Charles Albert Sorjonen; mother of Ronald K. Sorjonen of Slidell and Donald C. Sorjonen of Auburn, Ala.; and daughter of the late Lottie Viola Innerarity Fogg and Earl William Fogg.

Also, sister of Bessie Mae Meyers of Slidell and Charles Earl Fogg of Bradenton, Fla.; and survived by four grandchildren, Michael, David, Catherine and Joshua Sorjonen.

Funeral services will be held at Honaker Funeral home of Slidell on Friday, April 11 at 11 a.m.

Dr. Edgar Homrighausen, pastor of The Village Church, officiating.

interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Visitation on Friday after 10 a.m. until funeral time.

James Edward Sullivan, Sr.

PEARL RIVER -- James Edward Sullivan, Sr., of Pearl River, died Monday, April 7, 2003, at his residence. He was 71.

A native of Springfield, Mass., and 25-year resident of St. Tammany Parish, Sullivan graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a Master's of Business Administration. He was a U.S.M.C. Veteran of the Korean War, Director of Internal Audit for McDermott, Inc. of New Orleans and president of Sullivan and Associates. He was a parishioner of St. Luke's Catholic Church, member of the Republican Men's Club and member of the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants.

He was the father of James Edward Sullivan, Jr., and Susanne Kimberly Sullivan; son of the late James Edward and Mary Agnes Sheehan Sullivan; and brother of Paul Sullivan, Mary Smith and Ann Beggetta.

Services at Honaker Funeral Home on Saturday, April 12, at 11 a.m., Rev. Adrian Hall officiating. Visitation on Friday from 7-9 p.m., and Saturday after 9 a.m. interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations to St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church of Slidell are preferred in lieu of flowers.
