WILLIAM J. HAWKINS SR.

Mr. William James Hawkins Sr., 64, a resident of Charenton and native of Opelousas, died Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2004, at 11:40 a.m., at his residence following a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Elnora Tayler Hawkins of Charenton; four sons, Curtis Hawkins and Christopher Hawkins of Charenton, William James Hawkins Jr. of Baldwin and Terroni Dominick of Avery Island; two daughters, Felicia Hawkins and Stephanie Hawkins of Charenton; two brothers, J.C. Hawkins and Herman Vilo of Jeanerette; one sister, Brenda Tillman of Baldwin; and 11 grandchildren.

Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Visitations will be observed Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Otis Mortuary Chapel in Franklin.

Burial rites will be read Tuesday, at 1 p.m., at the mortuary. The Rev. W.J. Otis will officiate. interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Charenton.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

EMILE H. HAYDEL JR.

Emile H. Haydel Jr., 80, a native of Jeanerette and resident of Franklin, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2003, at 11 p.m., at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.

He is survived by four sons, Glenn Haydel and his wife, Cherie, of Broussard, Greg Haydel and his wife, Sandra, of Franklin, Kendell Haydel and his wife, Tina, of Sorrell and Johnny Haydel and his wife, Sidney, of Franklin; one daughter, Charmaine Liner and her husband, Raymond Jr., of Franklin; two brothers, Sitges Haydel and Johnny Haydel, both of Franklin; one sister, Blanche Boudreaux of Franklin; 15 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Mr. Haydel was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Belle Theriot Haydel; father, Emile Haydel Sr.; mother, Virginia Broussard Haydel; one grandson, Raymond Liner III; five brothers, Hinton (Teen) Haydel, Oren (Bubba) Haydel, Hardy Haydel, Rufus Haydel and Edsel Haydel; and two sisters, Ada H. Cobb and Virginia Senette.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary.

The mortuary will reopen Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 9 a.m. to service time.

Service will be Wednesday, at 11 a.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary. The Rev. Brad Bullock will officiate. interment will follow in the Perpetual Park Cemetery.

Arrangements are entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary.

Michel "Mitch" Hebert

One of Franklin’s most decorated war veterans and respected businessman, Michel "Mitch" Hebert, is being laid to rest today with full military honors.

Hebert, 90, a native of Patoutville and resident of Franklin since 1943, died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at 9:36 p.m., at his residence.

He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served as a radio operator in Europe during World War II. He was a prisoner of war for 12½ months.

Mr. Hebert was captured by the Germans during what would have been his 50th and last mission with the 97th Bomber Group of the 15th U.S. Air Force, before he was to be returned stateside. A fire on board the bomber forced Hebert along with the other airmen to jump out near the Danube River. With his face swollen and bleeding from injuries sustained from his parachute cords, Hebert was immediately picked up by the Germans and transported by boxcar to Stalag VII A, a prisoner of war camp at Moosburg, Germany, 22 miles northeast of Munich. It would be 12½ months later that Gen. George S. Patton would stride into the war camp at the end of April 1945 during the liberation of Moosburg.

Hebert returned to Franklin after being discharged from the military with honors and went on the establish Hebert Insurance Agency.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley King Senette Hebert of Franklin; four sons, Michel "Skip" Hebert Jr. of Franklin, Robert Louis "Bobby" Hebert of Harvey, Alan T. "Tim" Hebert of Franklin and William "Billy" Hebert of Lafayette; two daughters, Sandra Lee Hebert of Napoleonville and Jill H. Mire of Franklin; two brothers, Freddie and James Hebert, both of New Iberia; four sisters, Julia Stevens of Baldwin, Elmae Pesson of New Iberia, Lucy Judice of Jeanerette and Clara Jean Palmer of Lafayette; 12 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren.

Mr. Hebert was preceded in death by one daughter, Lynda H. Case; father, Sidney Hebert Sr.; mother, Julia H. Hebert; three brothers, Sidney Hebert Jr., Nelson Hebert and Desire’ Hebert; four sisters, Marguerite Hebert, Anette Ladouceur, Maude Hebert and Ella Hebert; and one great granddaughter, Alyssa Michelle Case.

Mr. Hebert was a member of the American Legion Post 63, the VFW and the Knights of Columbus.

Visitation was held Monday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary.

Service was Monday, Dec. 9, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Assumption. Father Michael Russo officiated. interment followed in the Franklin Cemetery.

Fort Polk Casualty Army Command conducted full military burial honors.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

LEROY JOHN HEBERT JR.

Leroy John Hebert Jr., 46, a native of Franklin and resident of Brandon, Mississippi, died Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at Rankin Medical Center in Brandon.

He is survived by his wife, Sheila Lambert Hebert of Brandon; one son, Bradley John Hebert of Brandon; father, Leroy John Hebert Sr. of Franklin; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Moore of Franklin and Kelley Carline of New Iberia; one brother, Joey Hebert of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hebert was preceded in death by his mother, Emilies Picard Hebert.

Visitation will be held today, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a 7 p.m. wake service, at Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Brandon.

Visitation will be held in Franklin Thursday, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., at the Assumption Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 3 p.m. at the church. interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Cemetery in Baldwin. Father Michael Russo, assisted by Deacon Ricky Picard, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Raymond Young Jr., Brian Picard, Mike Picard, Matthew Hebert, Mikhail Lambert-Oswald, Alexander Lambert-Oswald, Nicholas Lambert-Oswald, Clint Young and Brent Young.

Mr. Hebert was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church. He was a director of Environmental and Safety for Miss. Valley Gas and had formerly worked for Southern Natural Gas.

He was a graduate of Franklin High School and received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Southwestern Louisiana . He was a member of the LSU Alumni Association and the Tiger Athletic Foundation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Catholic Church, 399 Barrow St., Pearl, Mississippi 39208.

FERNAND J. HEBERT JR.

Fernand Joseph Hebert Jr., 88, a native of Jeanerette and resident of New Iberia, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2003, at 11 p.m., at Iberia Medical Center.

He is survived by his wife, Euna Bourque Hebert of New Iberia; four sons, Fernand Hebert and his wife, Mary Jane, of New Iberia, Michael Hebert of New Orleans, Mark Hebert and his wife, Robin, of Jeanerette and Bryan Hebert and his wife, Renee’, of New Iberia; two daughters, Maureen Louviere and her husband, Brad, of Loreauville and Debby Poindexter and her husband, Mark, of Youngsville; three sisters, Rebecca Reaux of New Iberia, Marjorie Borne of Franklin and Oterie Sikes of Mississippi; 25 grand children; 18 great grand children; five step grandchildren; and eight step great grandchildren.

Mr. Hebert was preceded in death by his parents, Fernand Hebert Sr. and Exie Olivier Hebert; first wife, Anna Landry Hebert; one sister, Ruby Bodin; and one daughter, Loxie Hebert.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., at David Funeral Home with a Rosary service at 6:30 p.m.

Visitation will continue at the funeral home Friday, Dec. 19, from 8 a.m. to service time.

Service will be Friday, at 2 p.m., at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Fr. Michael Guidry will officiate. interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery in Jeanerette.

David Funeral Home, 400 Provost St. in Jeanerette, is in charge of arrangements. 337-276-5151.

THERESA J. HENRY

Mrs. Theresa Johnson Henry, 68, a resident of Palmdale, California and native of Patterson, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at 5:30 a.m., at her residence, following a short illness.

She is survived by two sons, Tyronne L. Jackson and David Jackson -Irving, both of Palmdale; one brother, Wardell Johnson of Patterson; two sisters, Lucille Conley and Evelina Chapman, both of Patterson; one grandchild; and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Henry was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, Oct. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Good Hope Baptist Church in Patterson.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 2 p.m., at that church. The Rev. Patrick Jones will officiate. interment will follow in the Home Industrial Cemetery in Patterson.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

CLARENCE HIGGINS SR.

Clarence "Tippy" Higgins Sr., 73, a native of Jeanerette and resident of Patterson, died May 29, 2002, at 11:40 p.m., at River West Medical Center in Plaquemine.

He is survived by four sons, Clarence Higgins Jr. of Franklin, Steven Ray Higgins and Larry Michael Higgins, both of Amelia, and Bobby Higgins of Houma; two daughters, Judy Mae Orgeron of Amelia, and Alice Callahan of Houma; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a close companion, Mary Blankenship.

Mr. Higgins was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Lombus Higgins; and his parents, Fred Higgins and Alice Bussy Higgins.

Visitation was held Thursday, from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary.

The mortuary reopened Friday, at 8 a.m., to service time.

Service will be Friday, at 2 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary. interment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

ALBERTHA B. HILLARD

Mrs. Albertha Brown Hillard, 80, a resident and native of Franklin, died Tuesday, April 15, 2003, at 12:30 p.m., at the Franklin Health Care Center, following a short illness.

She is survived by one brother, Johnny Brown Jr. of Franklin; and four sisters, Carolyn Brown Turner of Avondale, Anna Rhein, Doretha Brown and Helen L. Brown Logan, all of Franklin.

Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by one son, Henry Hill Jr.; her husband, parents, two brothers and one sister.

Visitations will be observed Tuesday, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Asbury United Methodist Church.

Burial rites will be read Tuesday, at 1 p.m., at that church. The Rev. D. Briggs will officiate. interment will follow in the Main Street Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.
