THELMA H. COLLINS

Mrs. Thelma Hines Collins, 66, a resident and native of Four Corners, died Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Maison De Lafayette Nursing Home following a long illness.

She is survived by two sons, Alfred Collins Sr. of Four Corners and Ceasar Jerell Collins of Cecilia; two stepsons, Albert Collins of New Iberia and Carroll Collins Jr. of St. Martinville; one daughter, Ledger Ledet of Lafayette; two brothers, Leroy Henry Sr. of Breaux Bridge and Elton Hines of Port Arthur, Texas ; one sister, Theresa Mae Henry of Beaumont, Texas ; 21 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and 29 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Collins was preceded in death by her parents, husband, five sisters and four brothers.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, July 19, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at St. John Baptist Church in Four Corners.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 10 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. W.J. Otis officiating. interment will follow in the St. John Cemetery in Four Corners.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

NETTIE WISE DAVIS

Mrs. Nettie Wise Davis, 75, a resident of St. Joseph and native of Jeanerette, died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at 1 a.m., at Iberia Medical Center following a short illness.

She is survived by her husband, Deacon Arthur Davis Jr. of St. Joseph; three sons, Bobby Lane Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Athams Haynes Davis of Jackson , Tennessee and Kevin Glen Davis of Houston, Texas ; one adopted son, Travis Lee Manson of Houston; four daughters, Patricia Swett of Savannah, Georgia, Betty Bowie of Jeanerette, Pamala Davis and Cassandra Brooks of Houston; three brothers, Edgar Wise of Port Arthur, Texas , Glence Wise Jr. of Vienna, Virginia and Lionel Wise Sr. of Jeanerette; four sisters, Ruby Coleman of New Iberia, Permella Devull and Betty Wise Paul of Jeanerette and Clara Ann Cole of Upper Marlboro, MD; 18 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters and one brother.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to noon, at the Greater St. Stephen Baptist Church in Franklin.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at noon, at that church. The Rev. Kevin Jenkins will officiate. interment will follow in the Golden Queen Cemetery in Centerville.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

SHIRLEY MAE DAVIS

Miss Shirley Mae Davis, 74, a resident and native of the St. Joseph Community, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, at 5:18 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital following a short illness.

She is survived by three sons, Elder Anthony Love and Joshua Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina and Bernard Davis of Franklin; one daughter, Joyce Davis Tines of Richmond, Virginia; six brothers, Arthur Davis Jr. and Herbert Davis of St. Joseph, Dr. Albert Davis and Minister Melvin Davis of Charlotte, North Carolina, Deacon Isiah Davis of Houston, Texas and Alvin Davis of Miami, Florida; five sisters, Helen McDaniel, Mary Ann Francis, Irma Lee Mitchell and Juanita Mitchell of St. Joseph and Estelle Howell of Charlotte, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.

Miss Davis was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter and two sons.

Visitations will be observed Monday, Oct. 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Otis Mortuary Chapel.

Burial rites will be read Monday, at 1 p.m., at the mortuary, with Elder Anthony Love officiating. interment will follow in the Golden Queen Cemetery in Centerville.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

WILBERT ESKINE SR.

NEW IBERIA — Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Wilbert H. Eskine Sr., 76, at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Evangeline Funeral Home. Fr. Ed Degeyter will officiate. interment will follow at St. Helena Cemetery in Florence.

Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral home will reopen on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until services.

A native of St. Mary Parish and resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Eskine Passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at 7:15 p.m. Sunday, May 4, 2008 at his residence with his family at his side.

Mr. Eskine was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He worked as a boat captain, but was also a self-employed commercial fisherman and carpenter.

He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, playing cards with the family, and going to the casino. Wilbert was a devoted husband, father, grand and great grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed dearly by all who knew him.

Survivors include his best friend and wife of 54 years, Rita Migues Eskine of Jeanerette; his children, Wilbert Eskine Jr. and his wife, Lois; Kenneth Eskine and his wife, Cindy; Donna Eskine and her companion, Ovey Buteaux; Clyde Eskine; Glenn Eskine and his wife, Donna; and Lynn Eskine, all of Jeanerette; Johnny Eskine and his wife, RaMona, of New Iberia; Linda Bujan and her companion, Mike McNaughton, of Winnfield; and Joanna Oubre and her husband, Charles, of Loreauville; grandchildren, Janet Gaspard, Virginia Burton, Tony Eskine, David Eskine, Rachel Richard, Brena Romero, Sarah Eskine, Marisa Eskine, Brittany Eskine, Blake Eskine, Brian McClanahan, Ashley Allen, Kent Eskine, Chance Guiberteau, Brayton Eskine and Trevor Oubre; 13 great grandchildren with one expected in November; and his siblings, Celena Mae Bodin, Allen Eskine, Flavia "Bea" Schoest, Dorothy Donald and Catherine "Lainie" Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alcee and Celena Landry Eskine; brother, James Eskine Sr.; and sister, Barbara Ann Eskine.

Pallbearers will be Glenn, Johnny and Tony Eskine, Charles Oubre, Brian McClanahan and Mike McNaughton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Wilbert Jr., Kenneth, Clyde, Lynn, David, Kent, Blake, Brayton, Chance Guiberteau and Trevor Oubre.

Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

LEONA GARRETT

Leona "Sister" Garrett, 83, a resident and native of Morgan City, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at 8:46 p.m., at Tulane Medical Center following a long illness.

She is survived by five sons, Earl Dean (Emma) Singleton of Atlanta, Danny Ray (Audrey) Robinson of Centerville, Lloyd (Linda) Robinson Sr., William Troy Allridge and Kenneth Allridge, all of Morgan City; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Mauri) Schoby of Midland, Michigan; three brothers, Frank Garrett and Jimmy Lewis Garrett, both of Berwick, and Robert "Doodle" Garrett of Houston; one sister, Edna Williams of Seattle; 25 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; one adopted great grandchild; and other relatives.

Mrs. Garrett was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, a grandson, brothers, triplet brothers, a sister, her spouse and her parents.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., at Second Missionary Baptist Church.

Funeral rites will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church. interment will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

The Jones Funeral Home, Inc. of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

JA-SIYAH GIBSON

Ja-Siyah Allea Gibson, a resident of New Orleans and native of Houston, died suddenly at 11:18 a.m., Saturday, July 28, 2007, at University Medical Center in New Orleans. She was 1 month and 25 days old.

She is survived by her mother, Natrisha Noel and father John Allen Gibson, both of New Orleans; her brothers, Dexter Gibson and Alphonse Burrell, both of Baldwin, and Brandon Brown, Bradi Noel and Brashii Noel, all of New Orelans; sisters, Keiana Harris of Four Corners, and Pyneika Noel, Elrione Noel, Bran-Jah Noel and Jonquill Gibson, all of New Orleans; grandmothers, Barbara Alcorn of New Orleans and Paxton Keys of Houston; and grandfather, Elinus Noel of New Orleans.

Visitation will be observed Friday, Aug. 3, 2007, from noon to 1 p.m. at Otis Mortuary in Franklin. Burial rites will be read at 1 p.m. interment will follow at Special Providence Baptist Church Cemetery in Baldwin.

Otis Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

NORTHERN GIBSON SR.

Funeral services were conducted for Northern Gibson Sr., 78, at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17 at First Church of God in Christ in Jeanerette, with the Rev. James W. Proctor officiating. interment followed in the Rising Sun Cemetery. Visitation began at 9 a.m. at the church until time of service.

A native of Franklin, he had been a resident of Jeanerette for many years. He died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at Iberia Medical Center following a brief illness.

He is survived by wife, Patricia Gibson of Jeanerette; five sons, Northern Jr., Lincoln, Georgie, Roy and Robert Gibson, all from the local area; three daughters, Judy Gibson of Houston, Gloria Lewis and Georgiana Gibson, both of Jeanerette; nine brothers, Jessie, Charlie, Ray and Orson Gibson, John, Seger, Arthur, Lawrence and Henry Phillips; 12 sisters, Oralee, Thelma, Angenette Phillips, Mary Rouchon, Gloria Wilkins, Audrey Robertson, Maria Robertson, Georgia Taylor , Belvia Givens, Gloria Gibson, Beverly Gibson and Genevieve Newman; 37 grandchildren; 53 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Gibson Sr. and Georgiana Robertson Phillips; maternal grandparents, Riley and Georgiana Young Robertson, paternal grandparents, Roy and Gustavia Gibson; one sister, Adell Briscoe; one son, Michael Gibson; and one great grandchild, Arianna Maxie.

Alex Lovett Funeral Services, Inc. were in charge of arrangements.

LEOLA F. GRAHAM

Sister Leola Franklin Graham, 89, a resident of Morgan City and native of Berwick, died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at 5:52 a.m., at the Patterson Healthcare Center following a long illness.

She is survived by one son, Bernell Westley of Atlanta, Georgia; one adopted daughter, Julia Kelly of Morgan City; three devoted brothers, Rev. E. Wellington (Irma) Franklin of Houston, Texas , Deacon Lynn C. (Eloise) Franklin Sr. of Eunice and Dr. H. Joseph (Nella V.) Franklin Sr. of Glenn Dale, Maryland; one faithful, loving sister, Lizzie M. Landry of Morgan City; four godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Graham was preceded in death by two brothers all of whom awaited her coming.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Lee Chapel AME Church.

Funeral rites will be held Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church. The Rev. Floyd Womack will officiate. interment will follow in the Morgan City Mausoleum.

CRAIG A. GUIDRY

Craig Anthony Guidry, 31, a native of Centerville and a resident of St. Martinville, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at 10:22 p.m., in Leonville as the result of an automobile accident.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Friday, July 13, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ibert's Mortuary.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 14, at 10 a.m., at Teche Baptist Church. interment will follow in the Teche Garden Cemetery in Centerville.

Craig is survived by his mother, Jaynece Bevills Thibodeaux of Centerville; stepfather, Telesmar Thibodeaux of Centerville; a sister, Mary Guidry Mason and her husband, Jim, of Scott; two uncles, Roy Guidry and his wife, Peggy, of Centerville, and Danny Bevills and his wife, Beth, of Centerville; two aunts, Gail Guidry of Centerville, and Frances Thornton and her husband, Chuck, of McComb, Mississippi; stepmother, Shirley Clements Guidry of Berwick; a niece, Jessica Voisin of Scott; a nephew, Tyler Voisin of Berwick; and a host of cousins, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilmo Joseph Guidry Jr.; an infant brother, Joseph Guidry; his paternal grandparents, Wilmo and Emily Guidry; and his maternal grandparents, Bill and Lorene Bevills.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert's Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.
