REBECCA J. FOSTER

Rebecca Jones Foster, 71, a native of Franklin and a resident of Bossier City, died Tuesday, Jan 18, 2011, at 9:50 a.m., at Pilgrim Manor Guest Care Center in Bossier City.

Service will be held Tuesday, Jan 25 at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin beginning at 11 a.m., with Rosary, Tributes and Ladies of Peter Claver until funeral service at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Rebecca leaves to cherish her memories her husband, Louis Foster of Franklin; five daughters, Janice Wiggins of Franklin, Redina Hall of Miami, Florida, Angela Jones of Abbeville, Felicia Polidore of Bossier City and Twanda Davis of Los Angeles, California; one son, Timothy Parker Jr. of Lafayette; three brothers, Samuel Jones Jr. of Jackson ville, N. C., Joseph Jones and Peter Bryant, both of Port Arthur, Texas ; 16 grand-children; 12 great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Jones Funeral Home of Franklin/ Morgan City/ Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.

EURA D. FONTENOT

Mrs. Eura Dell Verrett Fontenot, 61, a resident and native of Franklin, died Sunday, July 19, 2009, at 2:10 a.m., at Heart Hospital of Lafayette following a short illness.

She is survived by one son, Michael R. Fontenot of Franklin; one daughter, Edith Fontenot Brown of Jackson ville, Florida; one brother, Chester Gibson of Franklin; one stepbrother, Willis Smith of Dallas, Texas ; one sister, Mary Verrett of Franklin; two stepsisters, Hannah Moten of Franklin and Alexis Moten of Patterson; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Fontenot was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Otis Mortuary Chapel.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 1 p.m., at the mortuary, with the Rev. Joseph Gash officiating. interment will follow in the Little Zion Cemetery in Verdunville.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

MAXINE FERGUSON

Maxine Ferguson, 70, a resident of Ville Platte and native of Franklin, died Dec. 30, 2010 at Mercy Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 8, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the St. James Baptist Church in Bayou Chicot.

Funeral services will be Saturday, at 11 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. Reginald Arvie officiating. interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Maxine is survived by two daughters, Sandra Garlow (James) and Paulette Ferguson (Wilton), both of Ville Platte; three sons, Patrick Ferguson and Emile Ferguson, both of Ville Platte, and Kevin Ferguson (Gloria) of Beaumont, Texas ; one brother, Thompson Haisley Jr. of Los Angeles, California; nine grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Owens-Thomas Funeral Home of Ville Platte is in charge of arrangements.

EVAN LUKE FARRELL

Evan Luke Farrell, 31, a native of Ridgewood, New Jersey and a resident of Bloomington, Indiana, died suddenly Dec. 23, 2007, in Oakdale, California.

He is survived by his parents, Deborah and Bob Foster of Franklin and Ken Farrell of Bloomington; his wife, Jill Nielsen-Farrell of Bloomington; a brother, Liam Farrell of Vertmont; a sister Calla Foster-Trosclair of New Iberia; a half-brother, Nathan Farrell and a half-sister, Kate Farrell, both of Vermont; and two step-children, Walker and Avery.

Evan was a muscian of considerable note and a member of the bands Rogue Wave and Japonize Elephants.

He died from smoke inhalation as the result of a fire at a friend’s apartment after waking everyone in the house but was unable to make it to safety himself.

Services were held Jan. 20 in Bloomington at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater. There was a silent auction and concert by his friends and fellow musicians to benefit his family.

FLAVIA E. ELMORE

Mrs. Flavia Elliot Elmore, 93, a resident and native of Franklin, died Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at 5:20 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital following a short illness.

She is survived by one son, Joseph Harris of the St. Joseph Community; two brothers, Verette Cleary of the St. Joseph Community and Aaron Cleary of Houston, Texas ; one sister, Edna Mae Wren of Lafayette; 13 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 18 great great grandchildren.

Mrs. Elmore was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one daughter, two sons, one grandchild and four brothers.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, March 6, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, at St. Stephen Baptist Church in Franklin.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at noon, at that church, with the Rev. Ulysses Mitchell Jr. officiating. interment will follow in the Oddfellow Cemetery in Franklin.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

CHERYL DUVAL

Cheryl Duval, 45, a resident and native of Morgan City, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at Teche Regional Medical Center at 8 p.m.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept 1, at First United Pentecostal Church, 3067 6th St. in Berwick, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Cheryl leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Mary Himel of Morgan City; her devoted companion, Minh Lam of Amelia; her three sons, Giang Duval, Chris Duval and Phi Duval, all of Patterson; her two daughters, Jennifer Duval and Ashly Duval, both of Patterson; a sister, Cynthia Duval of Morgan City; a niece, Niki Rebardi of Morgan City; a nephew, Jeremie Rebardi of Morgan City; five grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her father and a sister.

Jones Funeral Home of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

CALISTE ALEXIS DUPLANTIS IV

June 28, 1955 ~ Jan. 30, 2011

A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, February 4, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Assumption for Caliste Alexis Duplantis IV, 55, a native and longtime former resident of Franklin and a current resident of Lake Charles, who Passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011, at 1:15 a.m., at the Lake Charles Memorial Hospital.

Father Billy Ruskoski, pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rayne, will officiate the Mass.

Survivors include his mother, Wanda Robicheaux Levet of Lafayette; his stepfather, Emile X. Levet Jr. of Lafayette; his sister, Denise and Ed Chaney of DeRidder; nieces, Christi and daughter, Cayleigh; Alison and husband, Jesse; and Bobbi; nephew, Franklin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Caliste Alexis Duplantis III; two brothers, John Dudley and Wynn Bryant Duplantis; very special maternal grandparents, Dennis Paul Robicheaux Sr. and Elda Borel Robicheaux; paternal grandparents, Caliste Alexis Duplantis Jr. and Evelyn Alleman Duplantis; and step grandmother, Emmadel Peltier Levet.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Friday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until Mass time.

ANGELE GAUDET DUHON

Jan. 24, 1928 ~ Jan. 19, 2011

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, January 24, 2011, at 11 a.m., at St. Jules Catholic Church for Angele Gaudet Duhon, 82, a native of Charenton and a resident of Franklin, who Passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 8:22 a.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Burial will follow in the Perpetual Park Cemetery. Fr. Thomas Vu will officiate the services.

She is survived by eight children, Linda Romero and her husband, Larry, of St. Martinville; Sally Minvielle of Franklin; Sandra LaGrange of Franklin; Woodley Duhon Jr. and his wife, Helen, of Franklin; Cherie Walen and her husband, James, of New Iberia; Sidney Dean Duhon and his wife, Christine, of Centerville; Darlene Duhon of Franklin; Lonnie Duhon of Kaplan; three brothers, Edwin Gaudet Jr. and his wife, Joyce, of Morgan City; Milton Gaudet of Franklin; and Larry Gaudet of Baldwin; three sisters, Audrey Maupin and her husband, Jackie, of Jeanerette, Lydia Stouff of Charenton and Theresa Falls of Breaux Bridge; 22 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodley Duhon Sr.; her parents, Edwin Gaudet and Eremise Abshire Gaudet; three sisters, Anna Mae Louviere, Edmonia Crochet and Anna Lee Charpentier; and one great grandson, Reid Belaire.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Sunday, January 23, at Ibert’s Mortuary, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m., and again Monday at St. Jules Catholic Church from 9 a.m. until Mass time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

KENNEDY J. DUGAS SR.

Nov. 14, 1922 ~ Oct. 2, 2010

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, October 6, 2010, at 2 p.m., at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin for Mr. Kennedy J. Dugas Sr., 87, a native of New Iberia and a longtime resident of Franklin who Passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at his home.

Entombment will follow in the Franklin Cemetery Garden Mausoleum. Father Thomas Vu of St. Jules Catholic Church will officiate the services.

Mr. Dugas was a veteran of the United States Navy, with the rank of 1st Lt., having served as a fighter pilot during World War II in the Pacific Theater. After returning to the states he met his future bride, Doris Joseph, while attending SLI. They married in 1947 and he began work as a Mechanical Engineer with Texaco. They later settled in Franklin and opened the Billmar Restaurant, which they ran for 45 years.

Survivors include one son, Kennedy J. Dugas Jr. and his wife, Lydia, of Lafayette; four daughters, Marcia Katherine Shelton and her husband, James, of Lafayette, Barbara Ann Rivet and her husband, Charles, of Mandeville, Elizabeth Adele Beadle and her husband, Brian, of Lafayette, and Mary Marguerite Lee and her husband, James Jr., of Mandeville; and six grandchildren, Lacey Shelton, Erin Shelton, Michelle Dugas, Daniel Beadle, Ashley Beadle and James Joseph Lee III.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris Joseph Dugas; an infant daughter, Tonya Marie Dugas; his parents, Rebert Dugas and Adele Junca Dugas; and one sister, Gloria Dugas Bonin.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Tuesday, October 5, at Ibert’s Mortuary, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., and again Wednesday, October 6, from 10 a.m. until dismissal at 1:30 p.m.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.
