BEVERLY BARBIN

Beverly Barbin, 58, a resident and native of Patterson, died Wednesday, Oct 20, 2010, at 3:02 a.m., at Teche Regional Medical Center.

Visitation will be held Saturday, October 23 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Patterson from 8 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Beverly leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Davis Barbin of Patterson; two brothers, Charles (Catherine) Boutte of Raywood, Texas and Joseph (Marie) Boutte of Abbeville; two sisters, Mrs. Cursey (Jane B.) Gordon and Judy Notto, both of Patterson.

Mrs. Barbin was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

Jones Funeral Home of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

MADILYN BANCROFT

Madilyn D. Bancroft, a long time resident of Berwick, Passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Teche Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.

She was devoted to her family, co-workers and friends. Her delight in cooking special dishes for her special people complimented her love of boating, fishing, hunting and shrimping with family. She was proud of her Cajun heritage and claimed it caused her to be “made of tough stuff.” Madilyn liked Cajun music and dancing, quilting and sewing. As a nurse she was able to bring comfort to many. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Madilyn loved and touched the hearts of all the ones that came into her life.

Madilyn is survived by her husband, of 27 years, Douglas; three sons, Donald Berger and wife, Paula; Charles Berger Jr. and wife, Debbie; and Benjamin Berger and wife, Debbie; three daughters, Connie Giandelone and husband, Adam; Anna Rose Scott and husband, Kenneth Jr.; and Darla Rose Percle; three brothers, Everett Driskill and wife, Della; Tilton “Pee Wee” Driskill Jr. and wife, Jeanette; and Henry “Butch” Driskill and wife, Beverly; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 11 great great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews and many co-workers and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Tilton Driskill and Florence V. Robin; a stepfather, Norris Robin; son, Shayne Berger; a sister, Winifred Menard; grandchildren, Melissa Berger, Jessica Berger, Danielle Berger and Kara Kendall.

A time of remembrance and reflection was held at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, concluding at 10 p.m., at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. Visitation resumed at 9 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 14, and a service was held at the Hargrave Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. She was laid to rest in the Berwick Cemetery.

BARBARA AYCOCK

June 22, 1922 ~ Feb. 7, 2011

Ms. Barbara Aycock, 88, a native of Patterson and a resident of Franklin, died Monday, February 7, 2011 at her residence.

Ms. Barbara is survived by a brother, Harry W. Aycock of Los Angeles, California; four nephews, Edward Bell of Morgan City, Vernon “Chips” Bell of Franklin, Phillip Bell of Houston, Texas , Rob Bell of Franklin; three nieces, Missy B. Dubois of New Orleans, Roye B. Pontiff of Franklin and Marjorie “GiGi” B. Dossy of Lafayette; and numerous great nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Florence Lewis Aycock; two brothers, Dr. Clifton Aycock and Father Roy Aycock; and one sister, Elizabeth Aycock Bell.

In keeping with Ms. Barbara’s wishes, she will be cremated with memorial services being held privately at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

EARL ASHLEY

Earl Kennon Ashley, 61, a native of Centerville and a resident of Petal, Mississippi, died Thursday, November 5, 2009.

Mr. Ashley is survived by his wife, Kay Robertson Ashley of Petal, Miss.; two daughters, Kelly K. Warren of Clearwater, Florida and Amanda Lea Robinson and her husband Jerry of Petal, Miss.; his mother, Violet Ruth Theriot Ashley of Franklin; four brothers, Carol Ashley, Jr. of Franklin, Paul Ashley of New Iberia, Chester Ashley of Columbia, Miss, Enos Ashley of Franklin; four sisters, Jane Bridges and Delores Pace both of Centerville, Sharon Crump and Kathy Bourgeois both of Huffmen, Texas ; four grandchildren, Kelsie Sanchez, Kayla Sanchez, Ty Howell, Kinlea Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carol Ashley.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Saturday November 7th from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Calvary Bible Church in Centerville.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 8th at 11 a.m. at the Calvary Bible Church with Rev. Curtis Pace officiating. Burial will follow in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Centerville.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

KAREN K. ANDERSON

Mrs. Karen Keal Anderson, 38, a resident of Lafayette and native of Baldwin, died Monday, April 12, 2010, at 6:30 a.m., at her residence following a short illness.

She is survived by her father, William Keal of Jeanerette; two daughters, Enjoli Anderson and Gabrielle Gibson of Lafayette; two brothers, Gregory Keal of Lafayette and Patrick Keal of Jeanerette; three sisters, Kimberly Keal and Adrianna Pinkney of Baton Rouge and Octavia Keal of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her mother.

Visitations will be observed Monday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the Special Providence Baptist Church in Baldwin.

Burial rites will be read Monday, at 11 a.m., at that church, with the Rev. W.J. Otis officiating. interment will follow in the Special Providence Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

JOHN JACOB ANDERSON

John Jacob Anderson, born to William A. and Mamie L. Anderson in Franklin on January 17, 1932, Passed away November 5, 2010 in California.

John was raised in Franklin, and later relocated to Rowland Heights, California after having graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering. Having served his country with three years in the United States Air Force, John was recruited by Rockwell International, Inc. where he became an integral part of propulsion system design team for the NASA Apollo Missions of the 1960s.

He is survived by his three children, David K. Anderson and wife, Maritza, Denise M. Hanna and husband, Tom, and Dean Anderson; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; as well as his much-loved brother, William A. Anderson II; and three sisters, Billie Ruskoski, Mae Thibeaux and Eloise Dopson.

He will be missed by the many family and friends who loved and respected him. “Many a man’s reputation would not know his character if they met on the street.” (Elbert Hubbard)

BETTY J. ALFRED

Miss Betty Joyce Alfred, 54, a resident and native of Jeanerette, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at 8 p.m., at her residence following a short illness.

She is survived by her companion, Wallace Stevens of New Iberia; mother, Mary A. Alfred Pierce of Jeanerette; stepfather, George Pierce of Jeanerette; one son, Zackery Alfred Sr. and his wife, Carolyn, of New Iberia; six sisters, Cornelia Engleton and husband, Jesse, of Jeanerette; Annie Lewis and husband, Johnell, and Juanita Clay and husband, Anderson Jr., of New Iberia; Betty Sonnier and husband, Embrick, of Shreveport; Rose Gray of Alexandria; and Hilda Baldwin of Baton Rouge; 12 brothers, Joseph Alfred and wife, Tania; Donovan Lewis and wife, Tina; Robert Lewis, Cortez Lewis and Raymond Burney of Jeanerette; Theopolis Baldwin and wife, Sharon, of Houston, Texas ; Roy Baldwin of Shreveport; Mathews Baldwin of Baton Rouge; Jack Baldwin and Robert Kennedy of Hollywood, California; and Andre Derouen and Lonnie Joseph of New Iberia; and one grandchild.

Miss Alfred was preceded in death by her father, a stepfather and one brother.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church in Jeanerette.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church, with the Rev. Charles Moncriff officiating. interment will follow in the Morning Pilgrim Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

ALZENA HATCHERSON GUY

A celebration of Alzena Hatcherson Guy’s life will be held at Greater New Hope Baptist Church in Baldwin on Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Carl R. White , Pastor, officiating. interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at Greater New Hope from 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.

Alzena was born February 11, 1946 to Albert and Dorothy Morse Hatcherson of Baldwin. She was educated in the St. Mary Parish public school system and went on to receive her Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern University in Baton Rouge. Alzena was an educator for over 31½ years with the St. Mary Parish School System. She served in different ministries in her church – the Senior Choir, Decorating Committee, Vacation Bible School teacher, and co-leader of Sisters of Hope. She also served on a community committee to help beautify the town of Baldwin.

Survivors include her husband, Charles of 40 years; daughter Lolanda Linnette (Edward) Brown of Jeanerette; a son, Eric Vaughn (Chandra) of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Alice H. (James) Reed of Baldwin, Brenda H. Prejean of Lafayette; a brother, Rev. Moses James (Jeanette) Hatcherson of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren, Caleb, Dynasty, Treneice and Nyah; caring sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and a host of wonderful family and friends.

Syrie Funeral Home of Lafayette is in charge of final arrangements.

VAN JOSEPH ADAMS

Oct. 1, 1931 ~ May 8, 2010

Van Joseph Adams, 78, a native of Patterson and a resident of Franklin since 1952, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 7:25 a.m., at his residence.

Van was hired on September 10, 1954 at Columbian Chemicals where he worked until his retirement on October 1, 1993. He also worked part time at the United States Post Office in Franklin for 17 years.

Van is survived by three sons, Dennis Adams and his wife, Carolyn, Mark Adams and Jeff Adams, all of Franklin; his wife, Jacqueline Bergeron Adams of Franklin; five brothers, Allen and his wife, Merlene, of Centerville, William and his wife, Vivian, of Lafayette, Edgar and his wife, Faye, of Franklin, Guy and his wife, Isle, of Bossier City and Albert and his wife, Patricia, of Mandeville; two sisters, Patsy Comeaux and her husband, John, of Centerville and Marie Schexnayder and her husband, Paul, of Franklin; seven grandchildren, Jessica Hebert and her husband, Jason; Jeremy Adams, Jared Adams, Jason Adams and his wife, Kara; Emily Adams, Kalyn Adams, and Brooke Adams; and three great grandchildren, Kael Adams, Layne Hebert and Jayven Hollier.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Van Don Adams and Della Mae LaGrange Adams.

The family requests that visitation be observed on Monday, May 10, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, May 11 at 9 a.m. at the funeral home until time of services.

Funeral services for Van will be held Tuesday, May 11, at 12 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary, with Father Lloyd Benoit officiating. Burial will follow in the St Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery in Centerville.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

ETHEL D. ACOSTA

Ethel Delasbour Acosta, 79, a native of Whigham, Georgia and a resident of Franklin, died Monday, December 13, 2010 at Franklin Foundation Hospital at 7:40 p.m.

Visitation will be at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin Saturday, December 18, from 9 a.m. until funeral service, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Ethel leaves to cherish her memories a son, Anthony Delasbour Sr. of Franklin; a daughter, Paula M. Wauls of Los Angeles, California; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and a sister.

Jones Funeral Home of Morgan City, Franklin and Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.
