WILLIAM NEIL SPRUILL

Services for W. Neil Spruill, 87, of Flint, Texas are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 30 in the Chapel of Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom Pesnell officiating. Burial will be at Cathedral in the Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Spruill Passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Tyler. He was born September 1, 1923 in Morehead, Mississippi to the late George C. and Agnes L. Barrett Spruill Sr. He has lived in Tyler the past 20 years, having also lived in Terrell. He was a meat market manager for Brookshire Grocery in Tyler for over 30 years, served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII and was a longtime member of County Line Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Lee Spruill.

Survivors include a son, Neil Dennis Spruill of Flint; two daughters, Patricia Gail Kraft of Henderson and Sherry Lee Williams of Terrell; a sister, Edna Joyce Walker of Winnsboro; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday evening.

DOLORES SMITH

Dolores Smith, 67, a resident of Patterson and a native of Franklin, died Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center at 10:21 a.m.

Visitation will be Monday, May 10 at Jones Funeral Home Chapel in Morgan City from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Dolores is survived by four sons, Warren Bartley Jr., and Floyd Joseph (Stephanie) Bartley, both of Patterson, Claude Joseph (Lizze) Bartley of Houston and Raymond (Sandra) Bartley of Sacramento, CA; two daughters, Stephanie Ann Bartley of Clarkston, GA and Sandra Marie Austin of Raeford, NC; two brothers, Hilliard Smith Jr. of Patterson and Alfred Smith of Bostow, CA; two sisters, Shirley May and Mary Smith, both of Patterson; 21 grandchildren; and 16.

CALVIN SMITH

Calvin Smith, 56, a resident of Amelia and native of New Orleans, died Friday, November 30, 2007, at his residence following a long illness.

He is survived by his spouse, Ora Singleton- Smith of Amelia; two sons, Calvin Singleton of Morgan City and Michael Singleton of Amelia; two stepsons, Rutherford Jones of Amelia and Staff Sgt. Clarence Jones of Fort Hood, Texas ; four daughters, Nakithe S. Henderson of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania , Nakithe Singleton and Jessica Singleton of Amelia and Michel Singleton of Berwick; four stepdaughters Mona Clark, Lillian Diggs and Cheryl Singleton, all of Amelia, and Shantel McPherson of Houston, Texas ; one brother, James Smith of New Orleans; two sisters, Louise Robinson of Avondale and Joann Smith Wallace of New Orleans; 23 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Union Bethel Church.

Funeral rites will be held Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church. interment will follow in the Union Bethel Cemetery.

The Jones Funeral Home, Inc. of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

ANTHONY W. SKIPPER

Anthony Wayne Skipper, 49, a native and resident of Morgan City, died Monday, Oct 18, 2010 at Teche Regional Medical Center, at 4 p.m.

Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 28 at Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church from 5 p.m. until wake service at 7 p.m.

Dismissal will be Friday, Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Anthony leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Annie Mae Skipper of Morgan City; a stepson, Jonathan Murray of Morgan City; three stepdaughters, LaShunda Murray of Shreveport, Dominique Picon of Houma and Symphony Richardson of Ponchatoula; four brothers, Samuel Skipper Jr. of Morgan City, Raymond (Paula) Skipper of Maryland, Joseph (Suzette) Skipper of Seattle, Washington and Walter (Debbie) Skipper of Patterson; seven sisters, Odessa Frank, Sandra Batiste, Windey Skipper, Mrs. Jamie (Elnora) Reyes and Mrs. Byran (Wyonia) Burrell, all of Morgan City, Mrs. Eric (Antoinette) Schmidt of Norfolk, Virginia and Mrs. Anthony (Leona) Dixon of New Orleans; two uncles, Jimmie Skipper of Columbus, Ohio and Raymond (Ethel) Morrison of Morgan City; two aunts, Mrs. Alvin (Rita Mae) Williams of Petersburg, Virginia and Iona Ruffin of Morgan City; two godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Jones Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

BERTHA SINGLETON

Bertha Mae Valentine Singleton, 63, a native and resident of Morgan City, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at her residence.

Visitation will be at the Church of Christ on Railroad Ave. in Morgan City on Saturday, February 20, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memories; two sons, Kevin A. Singleton and Keith A. Singleton, both of Morgan City; a daughter, Tina Marie Wilcher of Hattiesburg, MS; five brothers, Wilbert Valentine Jr. of Lafayette, Larry Valentine, Calvin Valentine, Leonard Escort and Author Escort, all of Morgan City; three sisters, Vida Mae Banks of Brookhaven, MS, Lola Davis of Houston, TX and Shirley Penn of Morgan City; a brother-in-law; a sister-in-law; an uncle, an aunt; seven grandchildren; four adopted grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Mrs. Singleton was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and an aunt.

Jones Funeral Home of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

MERLIN PAUL SIMONEAUX

Oct. 15, 1932 ~ Oct. 2, 2010

A Mass of Christian burial was held Monday, October 4, 2010, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin for Mr. Merlin Paul Simoneaux, 77, a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, who Passed away Saturday, October 2, 2010, at 12:35 a.m., at his residence.

Burial followed in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit officiated the services.

Mr. Simoneaux was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He retired in 1994 from Cabot after 39 years of dedicated service.

Survivors include his wife, of 54 years, Rose Ardeneaux Simoneaux of Franklin; one daughter, Susan Simoneaux Jones of Franklin; one son, Michael David Simoneaux and his wife, Monica, of Franklin; one sister, Beryl B. Louviere of Centerville; four grandchildren, Skyler Simoneaux, Macy Simoneaux, Alexis Jones and Elliot Simoneaux, all of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Anne Simoneaux; his parents, Sullie Simoneaux and Rosa Boudreaux Simoneaux; eight brothers, Oneil, Charley, Willie, Clifford, Johnny, Leo, Percy and Edward Simoneaux; and four sisters, Inez Belanger, Lillian Simoneaux, May Landry and Odette Naquin.

A gathering of family and friends was held Monday, October 4 at the Church of the Assumption from 10 a.m. until Mass time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

NORRIS “LOUL” SIMON

LAFAYETTE — A Mass of Christian Burial for Norris “Loul” Simon, 89, was held at 1 p.m. Monday, March 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with Fr. Gary Schexnider officiating.

Visitation was at David Funeral Home of Lafayette Sunday, March 21, from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m., with a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m.

Visitation resumed on Monday, March 22, from 8 a.m. until the time of the services. interment followed in the St. Joseph Cemetery.

Mr. Simon, a native of Maurice and a resident of Franklin, died at 3:36 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010. He was known for gardening, telling Cajun stories and being a very hard worker. He was also a member of Woodmen of the World and C.C. Camp.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Montet of Franklin; son, Norris C. Simon and Patricia Andres of Franklin; three daughters, Linda and her husband, Al, of Baldwin, Joan and her husband, Charles, of Sorrell and Mary and her husband, Gerald Ellender of Houma; brother, N.D. Simon of Angie, La.; three sisters, Effie Broussard of Opelousas, Laura Mae Hebert of Lafayette and Mazel LeMaire of Maurice; eight grandchildren, Dawn Trahan, Jason Granger, Joleigh Hulin, Zack Barrilleaux, Cory Firmin, Emily Gaudet, Landon Gaudet and Justin Simon; and six great grandchildren, Harley Granger, Austin Granger, Taylor Granger, Ryan Trahan, Kristin Trahan and Abigail Hulin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Semar and Alcia Bodin Simon; two brothers, Mabrey Simon and Edwin Simon; three sisters, Helen Duhon, Gusie Simon and Elise Pontiff.

Serving as pallbearers were Justin Simon, Norris C. Simon, Dawn Trahan, Zack Barrilleaux, Cory Firmin, and Jason Granger.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Landon Gaudet, Bobby Simon, Ryan Trahan and Austin Granger.

David Funeral Home of Lafayette, 316 Youngsville Hwy. was in charge of arrangements. 337-837-9887.

AVIE B. SEGURA

Avie Broussard Segura, 92, a native of New Iberia and a resident of Baldwin, Passed away Monday, July 20, 2009, at 5:25 p.m., at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.

Mrs. Segura is survived by two daughters, Marlene S. Fournier of Baldwin and Michelle S. Smith and her husband, Mark, of Youngsville; three brothers, George Broussard and Ned Broussard, both of New Iberia, and Leroy Broussard of Pearson, Georgia; one sister, Doris B. Haydel of Reserve; two grandchildren, Blake Fournier of Denham Springs and Devyn Smith of Youngsville; three great grandchildren, Raven, Claire and Leah Fournier, all of Denham Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Eloi Segura; one daughter, Patricia S. Richard; her parents, Aymar Broussard and Noemi Dubois Broussard; three brothers, Ulysse “Pie” Tarlton and Sullie Broussard; and five sisters, May Bourgeois, Annette Barrilleaux, Avia Landry, Aline Broussard and Sylvia Barrilleaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday, July 23, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary, with the rosary being prayed at 6 p.m.

Visiting will resume Friday at the mortuary at 9 a.m.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, July 24, at 2 p.m., at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Baldwin. Entombment will follow in the church cemetery mausoleum. Father Bill Crumley will officiate the services.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc., 2007 Main St., Franklin.

WALTER A. SCHEXNAYDER JR.

Mr. Walter A. Schexnayder Jr., 66, a native of New Iberia, a resident of Monticello, Mississippi and long time resident of Franklin, died Thursday, November 26, 2009, at 10:10 a.m., at his home following a brief illness.

Mr. Schexnayder is survived by his wife, Linda Albert Schexnayder of Monticello; his son, Brad A. Schexnayder and his wife, Jane, of Luverne, Alabama; daughters, Connie S. Suire and her husband, Chris, of Abbeville; Lori S. Sonnier and her husband, David, of Franklin; Leslei S. Toney and her husband, Whitey, of Youngsville; Kendra S. Guillotte and her husband, Dale, of New Iberia; and Tansy S. Graves and her husband, Les, of Liberty, Mississippi; brother, Tommy Schexnayder and his wife Jodie, of Franklin; sisters, Emma S. Chiasson and her husband, Ace, of Larose, La., Penny L. Kirchhoff and her husband, Kelly, of Larose and Toni S. Jones and her husband, Sam, of Franklin; grandchildren, Brooke T. Holeton and her husband Greg, Phillip Toney, Emily Sonnier, Katie Sonnier, Kimberly Sonnier, Sarah Sonnier, Clarissa Toney, Carson Suire, Brian Sonnier, Kylie Guillotte, Connor Hartzog, Meagan Guillotte, Matthew Sonnier, William “Mac” Blake and expecting Baby Graves; great grandchildren, Klayre and Lilly Holeton; and many friends and other family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. Schexnayder Sr. and the former Olive Stroud; his brother, Johnny Schexnayder; and the mother of his children, Dianne Uze’ Schexnayder.

A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Assumption in Franklin on Saturday, December 5, at 9 a.m., with a Mass following at 10 a.m.
