LAUREL M. GUIDRY SCHEXNAYDER

Oct. 28, 1945 ~ Oct. 19, 2010

Mrs. Laurel M. Guidry Schexnayder, 64, a native of Weeks Island and a resident of Garden City, died Tuesday, October 19, 2010, at 2:14 p.m., at Ochsner’s Medical Center in New Orleans.

Mrs. Laurel is survived by her husband of 40 years, Burton Schexnayder of Garden City; three daughters, Dana Bodin and her husband, Van, of Lake Charles; Desi Hanagriff and her husband, Randy, of Garden City; and Jessie Martin and her husband, Curtis, of Garden City; three brothers, John Pichoff, David “Bre” Pichoff and Willis Guidry Jr.; one sister, Carolyn Tenney; and six grandchildren, Larry Soileau Jr., Adrienne Bodin, Logan Bodin, Megan Martin, Isabella Hanagriff and Maximilian “Max” Hanagriff.

She was preceded in death by her father, Willis Guidry Sr.; her paternal and maternal grandparents.

The family requests that memorial visitation be observed Saturday, October 23, 2010, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin.

A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, October 23, at 11 a.m., at St. Jules Catholic Church, with Father Thomas Vu officiating. Burial will be held privately at a later date.

Laurel never knew a stranger. She was the most compassionate, caring and selfless person in the world. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother very dedicated to her family. Laurel was a servant and good friend to all. She hurt when you hurt and was happy when you were happy. She was the mother of all mothers, taking everyone under her wing and making them feel like one of her own. Laurel’s favorite pastimes were creating artistic paintings, gardening, and most of all, cooking and feeding everyone. Her house was always full, and rarely empty. She always made everyone feel welcome. Laurel was young at heart and eager to laugh. She will be dearly missed by all.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

BURTON SCHEXNAYDER

March 8, 1939 ~ Jan. 16, 2011

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, January 22, 2011, at 12 p.m., at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin for Mr. Burton Schexnayder, 71, a native of Delcambre and a resident of Garden City, who Passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at his home after a long battle with cancer.

Father Thomas Vu of St. Jules Catholic Church, 601 Magnolia Street, Franklin, LA 70538 will officiate the Mass.

Burton graduated top of his class in 1957 from Delcambre High School where he played high school football and ran track. His senior year he joined the Navy Reserves, serving active duty on a destroyer from 1957 to 1959. He remained in the Navy Reserves for a total of 8 years. His first job was with Freeport Sulphur Company where he worked for 3½ years, followed by 47 years in the oilfield. Burton began with Odeco at age 24, then Teledyne for the next 26 years as Maintenance Supervisor, 7 years with Global as Superintendent, and spent the last 7 years with Tetra as a consultant.

Burton was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was well liked and loved by all, making many lifelong friends. He was known for his generosity, honesty, fairness, dependability and great sense of humor. Burton’s word was as good as gold. He was a great judge of character and wisdom came naturally to him. He loved the water, spending a great deal of time camping and fishing surrounded by family and friends where there was always a lot of good cooking, music and laughter. He was a person you just couldn’t get enough of because he was so fun to be around. Burton was a "give you the shirt off of his back” kind of person. He never knew a stranger, and always made a lasting impression. He lived life to the fullest. Burton will be dearly missed by all, and always remembered.

Survivors include his three daughters, Dana Bodin and her husband, Van, of Lake Charles; Desi Hanagriff and her husband, Randy, of Garden City; and Jessie Martin and her husband, Curtis, of Garden City; his mother, Ophelia “Mama Shine” Sonnier Schexnayder of Delcambre; three brothers, Curtis Schexnayder of Delcambre, Sidney Schexnayder III of New Iberia and Darson Schexnayder of Delcambre; and six grandchildren, Larry Soileau Jr., Adrienne Bodin, Logan Bodin, Megan Martin, Isabella Hanagriff and Maximilian “Max” Hanagriff.

He was preceded in death by his wife, of 40 years, Laurel Guidry Schexnayder; his father, Sidney “PaPa Shine” Schexnayder Jr.; and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Saturday, January 22, at St. Jules Catholic Church, from 10 a.m. until Mass time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

JOHN SCELFO SR.

August 15, 1933 ~ Jan. 18, 2011

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, January 20, 2011, at 1 p.m., at St. Jules Catholic Church in Franklin for Mr. John Scelfo Sr., a native and lifelong resident of Franklin, who Passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Thomas Vu will officiate the services.

Mr. Scelfo worked in the family business, Frank Scelfo & Sons, with his father and brothers until he retired.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruby Bourgeois Scelfo of Franklin; eight children, Nancy Comeaux of Patterson; Pat Terrebonne and her husband, Glenn, of Franklin; John “Bubba” Scelfo Jr. and his wife, Francine, of Franklin; Kathy Mayon and her husband, Dennis, of New Iberia; Daniel Scelfo of Franklin; Kenny Scelfo Sr. and his wife, Jennifer, of Franklin; Wendy Collette and her husband, Paul, of Franklin; and MaryAnn Trosclair and her husband, Jerry, of Franklin; one brother, Anthony Scelfo and his wife, Shirley, of Franklin; one sister, Sarah Campbell and her husband, Harold, of Bayou Vista; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Scelfo Sr. and Sarah Incavido Scelfo; one son, David Scelfo; three brothers, Frank Scelfo Jr., Salvador Scelfo and Camille “Tut” Scelfo; and one son-in-law, Richard Comeaux.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Thursday, January 20 at St. Jules Catholic Church, from 10 a.m. until Mass time.

Pallbearers will be Ben Fields, Kenny Scelfo Jr., Nicholas Mayon, Christopher Mayon, Marcus Rineholt and Jerry Trosclair Jr.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Scelfo’s caregivers, Gwen, Cindy and Denise, as well as to Dr. McPherson and the staff of Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

FLORABETH GORDY SANDRIDGE

April 9, 1923 ~ Jan. 30, 2011

Florabeth Gordy Sandridge, 87, a lifelong resident of Centerville, died peacefully Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Franklin Foundation Hospital, at 9:30 p.m., surrounded by family and friends.

Florabeth was a graduate of Franklin High School in 1940 and was the owner of the Beauty Box in Centerville where she enjoyed working and socializing with her clients and friends for many years, but her primary role in life was wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Florabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Florene Gordy.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories, first and foremost, her beloved, loyal husband of 59 years, Hollis Sandridge of Centerville; along with their four daughters, Joan Hill of Pineville, Donna Sandridge of New Iberia, Gaynell Spurgeon of Alexandria and Lisa Lischka of Los Gatos, California; as well as two sisters, Charlotte Hammonds of Lake Charles and RoseMarie Baugher of Houston, Texas ; Florabeth also leaves behind four grandchildren, Wendy Hill, Heather Dujay, Cody Walden and Kerrin Lanahan; and five great grandchildren whom she adored dearly.

Our precious Florabeth will be deeply missed by all family members and the many friends who were ever so fortunate enough to have known her.

Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, 800-873-6983, www.stjude.org/tribute or to a favorite charity of choice.

The family would like to thank the staff at Franklin Foundation Hospital, her physician, Dr. Roland Degeyter and the Franklin Health Care Center for the love and special care provided to our Florabeth.

The family has requested that private services be held, and in doing so, realize that so many wish to share in their sorrow and joy. They simply ask for your continued prayers, the occasional visits and shared memories. After all, it is the little things that are born in the heart that really matter.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.

TERRY RUFFIN

Mr. Terry Ruffin, 53, a resident and native of Morgan City, died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at 3:04 a.m., at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson Parish following a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda Engleton Ruffin of Morgan City; two sons, Titus Trimm of Morgan City and Marvel Smith of San Francisco, California; one daughter, Carlissa Brown of New Orleans; six brothers, Larry Ruffin of Lake Charles, Don Ruffin of Lafayette, Marvin Ruffin of Tulsa, Oklahoma , Darryl Ruffin of Morgan City, Billy Reaux of Baton Rouge and Nathan Wheeler of New Orleans; five sisters, Marion Lee of Lake Charles, Pervy Ruffin of Lafayette, Annette Rochelle of Berwick, Darlene Reaux of Baton Rouge and Marlene Reaux of New Iberia; three grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Ruffin was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Visitations will be observed Saturday, Nov. 10, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church in Morgan City.

Burial rites will be read Saturday, at 1 p.m., at that church. The Rev. C.F. Smith will officiate. interment will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.

JOSEPHINE RUFFIN

Ms. Josephine Ruffin, 81, a native and resident of Morgan City, died Friday, June 5, 2009 at 10:50 a.m. at the Morgan City Health Care Center following a long illness.

Visitation will be at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church on 4th St. in Morgan City Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. until the funeral at 12 p.m. interment will follow in Morgan City Cemetery.

She is survived by two brothers, Russell Ruffin and Sylvester Ruffin; four sisters, Evelyn Wilson, Lillian Randle and Louise Madise, all of Morgan City and Irene Louis of Port Arthur, Texas ; and a host of relatives and friends.

Ms. Ruffin was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.

Jones Funeral Home of Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

EUSEBE JOSEPH ‘ZEB’ ROBICHEAUX

April 14, 1924 ~ Feb. 5, 2011

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011, at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville for Mr. Eusebe Joseph “Zeb” Robicheaux, 86, a native and longtime resident of Centerville, and a resident of Stephensville for the past 31 years, who Passed away Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 4:42 a.m., at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.

Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Cemetery. Father Danny Poche’ of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City will officiate the services.

Mr. Robicheaux was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served during World War II. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus, Centerville Council 4309 and was a member of the American Legion Post 63 in Franklin. He retired from Exxon in 1982 as a Senior Field Superintendent in production after 33 years of dedicated service. He was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

Mr. Robicheaux is survived by his wife, Stella Vining Robicheaux of Stephensville; three daughters, Gwen Keith of Centerville, Paddy Boudreaux and her husband, Glenn, of Franklin and Paula Tardiff of Lafayette; six stepdaughters, Debra Boudreaux and her husband, Homer, of Patterson; Rebecca Cross and her husband, Graham, of Amelia; Ramona Brizzard and her husband, Spencer Jr. of Houston; Doreen Wiggins and her husband, Ronnie, of Stephensville; Karen Hamilton and her husband, Darren, of Minden; and Josephine Crabtree of Stephensville; two stepsons, Monroe LaCoste III of Stephensville and John LaCoste and his wife, Myrna, of Franklin; one brother, Raymond “Ray” Robicheaux and his wife, Dianne, of Franklin; three grandchildren; six great grandchildren; 17 step grandchildren; 17 step great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nina Eldridge Robicheaux; parents, Eusebe Albert Robicheaux and Marie Mae Miguez Robicheaux; four sisters, Irene Slataper, Ella Mae Polito, Doris Vaccarella and Theresa Foolkes; and four brothers-in-law, Joe Vaccarella, Sam Polito, Johnny Foolkes and Richard Slataper.

A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, February 7 at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the rosary being prayed at 7 p.m., and again Tuesday, February 8 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Centerville from 8 a.m. to Mass time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.
