LOUIS MINGO
Louis Mingo, 64, a resident of Franklin and a native of Plaucheville, died Monday, December 7, 2009 at 7 a.m., at Franklin Foundation Hospital.
Visitations will be at Truimph Baptist Church in Franklin on Saturday, December 12, from 10 a.m. until funeral service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery.
Mr. Mingo is survived by his wife, Jean Bowles Mingo of Franklin; two sons, Brian Keith Mingo of Franklin and Tyrone Davis of Morgan City; four daughters, Tracy Genell Mingo of San Antonio, Texas , Erin Lynn Mingo of Morgan City, Sonja Beatrice Mingo of Round Rock, Texas and Kimberly Mingo- Johnson of Katy, Texas ; two brothers, Lester Mingo of Gibson and Leroy Jones of Franklin; four sisters; Lillie Mae Eldrige of Cottonport, Lou Bertha Rideaux of Lake Charles, Margie Lee McGlory and Geneva Mingo, both of Marksville; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
Jones Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.
VERA L. MILLET
Vera Lucia Millet, 92, a native of and longtime resident of Franklin, Passed away Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Franklin Foundation Hospital.
Mrs. Millet is survived by her two sons, Leo John Millet Jr. and his wife, Bonnie, both of Newark, California, and Warren Murphy Millet of Ridgeland, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Sandi Gonzalez and her husband, Robert, both of Fremont, California, and Katie Millet of San Jose, California; five great grandchildren, Sarah, Rebeakah, Adrinnah, Alaynah and Aaron Gonzalez, all of Fremont, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo John Millet Sr.; her father, Joseph Lucia; her mother, Jovanna Schiro Lucia; two brothers, Simon P. Lucia and Joseph J. Lucia Sr.; and nine sisters, Marietta, Carrie, Jesse, Lena, Rose, Marie, Mary, Theresa and Frances.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed Thursday, July 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Ibert’s.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, at 2 p.m., at Ibert’s Mortuary. Burial will follow in the Franklin Cemetery. Father Thomas Habetz will officiate the service.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc., 1007 Main St. in Franklin.
Woodrow P. “Woody” Mendoza
NEW IBERIA – Funeral services will be conducted for Mr. Woodrow P. “Woody” Mendoza, age 92, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009 at Evangeline Funeral Home, with Fr. Charles Langlois officiating. Readers for the service will be Cindy Breaux and Patty Louviere. interment will be held at Holy Family Cemetery
with military honors by VWF Post 1982.
Visitation will be held from 8:30 a.m. until service time on Tuesday with a Rosary at 9 a.m.
A native of Ashton and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Mendoza Passed away at 4:50 p.m. on Sunday. Sept. 20, 2009 at Belle Teche Nursing and Rehab.
Woody was a devoted, loving husband of 50 years to Mildred Mendoza. He was a US Army Veteran and member of the VFW in Franklin. He retired from Shell Oil after 31 years of employment. He loved fishing and was an excellent handy man.
He is survived by his brother, Chelly Mendoza and wife, Anna Bell, of Baldwin.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Boudreaux Mendoza; parents, Albert Sr. and Eve Marie V. Mendoza; and brothers, Ivy, Avery, Albert “Tut,” and J.B. Mendoza.
Pallbearers will be Jessie Breaux, Johnny Hester, Ryan Breaux, Brad Mendoza, Marty LeBlanc , and Ronnie Ruskoski.
Honorary pallbearer will be Chelly Mendoza.
Evangeline Funeral Homes, Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
ELLA MOSES MELTON
Mrs. Ella Moses Melton, 89, a resident and native of Morgan City, died Sunday, February 14, 2010, at 9:05 p.m., at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
She is survived by one son, Perry Melton of Verdunville; one brother, Herbert Valentine of Washington , D.C.; eight sisters, Lillie V. Lymon of Morgan City, Ella Knightshead, Freddie Mae Davis and Delma Trosclair of Houma, Alice Jones of St. Louis, Missouri, Elizabeth Montgomery of Chicago, Illinois, Eula Williams of Lafayette and Beatrice Jenkins of Chauvin, La.; and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Melton was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and five brothers.
Visitations will be observed Monday, Feb. 22, from noon to 2 p.m., at the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Morgan City.
Burial rites will be read Monday, at 2 p.m., at that church, with the Rev. Larry Frank officiating. interment will follow in the Morgan City Cemetery.
The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of preparations.
CHARLES MCLEAN
May 30, 1942 ~ April 8, 2010
Charles “Chick” John Arthur McLean, 67, a native of Franklin and resident of Yukon, Oklahoma , died April 8, 2010.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly McLean; children, Charles McLean Jr., Shelana, Michael, Jason and Kevin; two sisters, Inez Boudreaux of Lafayette and Bonnie McLean Parker of Charenton; 10 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Mr. McLean was preceded in death by his father, Parker McLean; mother, Isabelle Wellman McLean; sisters, Lavern McLean, Toni McLean Lear and Ada McLean Stolenbach; and brothers, Benny McLean and Frankie Lee McLean.
Charles was still an active bowler and still played drums in a hometown band.
Memorial services will be held Monday, April 19, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Clarion Convention Center in Oklahoma City.
MARY ELAINE SIMONEAUX-MCGEE
Nov. 27, 1940 ~ April 6, 2010
Mary Elaine Simoneaux-McGee, 69, a native of Franklin and a resident of Chardon, OH, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at her residence.
Elaine is survived by her husband, Vernon McGee of Chardon, OH; her daughter, Shane Ellsworth and her husband, Scott, of Northfield, OH: two sisters, Jane Coleman of Bossier City and Becky Schulman of Orlando, FL; an aunt, Margaret Simoneaux of Patterson; an uncle, Merlin Simoneaux and his wife, Rose; several close cousins including Linda Duke, Beryl Louviere, Jo Ann Rogers, Charlotte Theriot, Paget Theriot and Dawn Bourque.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Simoneaux and Nona Geoffrey Simoneaux; an aunt, Marguerite Kearney; her sister, Lois Reeves; her grandparents, Rosie and Soule Simoneaux and Mary and John Geoffrey.
The family requests that visitation be observed Wednesday, April 14, from 10 a.m. until time of dismissal at Ibert’s Mortuary in Franklin.
A graveside service for Elaine will follow at 1 p.m. at the Franklin Cemetery. Father Lloyd Benoit of the Church of the Assumption will officiate the services.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Ibert’s Mortuary, Inc. of Franklin.
BORETHA L. McFARLIN
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Mrs. Boretha Mae Lockett McFarlin, 74, on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 1 p.m., at Saint Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Four Corners.
The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of services. A rite of committal will follow in the Sorrell Community Cemetery
in Sorrell.
A native of Baldwin and resident of Houston, Texas , Mrs. McFarlin departed this earthly life on Monday, July 27, 2009, at 4:45 a.m., at her residence.
FLORENE NUNN McCLELLAND
JENNINGS — Funeral services for Mrs. Florene Nunn “Granny” McClelland, 98, were held at 10 a.m., Monday, January 24, 2011 in the First United Methodist of Elton with the Rev. Steven Bellard officiating.
Burial was in the China Cemetery
under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings.
Funeral home visitation was from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday; and 8 a.m., Monday at the church until time of services.
Mrs. McClelland died at 12:20 a.m., Saturday, January 22, 2011 at her residence.
Mrs. McClelland was a 75-year resident of Elton having moved there from Tennessee upon her marriage. She was a high school graduate and was married to Ray “Pee Wee” McClelland for more than 53 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church in Elton.
She is survived by two sons, Judge James R. McClelland and wife, Sandy, of Franklin and Thomas J. McClelland and wife, Patsy, of Elton; six grandchildren, Joseph R. McClelland and wife, Hope; Jeffrey R. McClelland and wife, Danielle; Karen McClelland Carriere and husband, Mark; Katie M. McClelland; Thomas Andrew McClelland; and Jack L. McClelland; two great grandchildren, Hattie McClelland and Liza McClelland; and a devoted sister-in-law, Louise S. McClelland.
Mrs. McClelland was preceded in death by her parents, Ewell and Willie Conley Nunn; husband, Rufus Ray McClelland; and sister, Ione N. Adcock.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Drew, Jack, Joe and Jeff McClelland and Ronnie Petree and Bobby Bertrand.
GENEVIE JOE
Genevie Joe, 66, a resident of Sorrell and a native of Lafayette, died Wednesday, Sept 16, 2009, at 9:45 a.m., at Iberia Medical Center in New Iberia.
Visitations will be Saturday, September 26 at St. Moses Baptist Church in Jeanerette, from 9 a.m. until funeral services, at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow in the Sorrell Cemetery. Officiating will be the Rev. Bobbie Wiley.
Mrs. Joe leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Felicia Howard Lewis and Dena Howard; two sons, Eric Howard and Walter Howard, all of Sorrell; two sisters, Rebecca Stanton of Sorrell and Mary Ann Fontenot of Beaumont, Texas ; 10 grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse.
Arrangements are entrusted to Jones Funeral Home in Franklin.
