Roussel
Ellis Joseph Roussel Sr., the first born to the late Roger and Effie Roussel, died September 12, 2008, at 10:37 p.m. He came into this world July 5, 1929. He was 79 years old. A native of Belmont and a resident of Lutcher for 48 years.

Visitation and services were held on Monday at St. Joseph Church, September 15. interment at St. Joseph Mausoleum in Paulina.

He served the St. James Parish School System in many ways; as a teacher, coach, principal, supervisor and superintendent. In 1988, he retired as Superintendent of St. James Parish Schools and then served as the principal of the St. James Parish Detention Center where he retired in 2000.

He is survived by his living spouse of 57 years, Camille DeRoche Roussel, sons and daughters-in-law, Ellis Jr. and Barbara Roussel of Mandeville, Eric and Tara Roussel of Gonzales, Eddie Roussel of Lutchel, and daughters and sons-in-law, Effie and Jason Waguespack of Lutcher, Ella Jane and Joe Picciola of Destrehan, and Erin and Joel Folse of Chackbay. Twelve grandchildren; Amy Zeringue, wife of Ralph Zeringue, Randy Waguespack, husband of Stacy Waguespack, Ricky Waguespack, Jake, Ben, Simon and Ori’ Roussel; Marco, Emily and Elizabeth Picciola; Cameron and Hannah Folse; and one great grandchild, Grace Camille Zeringue; sisters Lois Ann Poche and Hester Brignac; brothers Sheldon, Roger II and David Roussel. Preceded in death by brother, Ronald Roussel and sister, Eileen ‘Lane’ LeBlanc .

St. Pierre
Elise G. St. Pierre, died on Sunday, September 7, 2008, at 11:30 p.m. at Ochsner Hospital in Jefferson , La. Age 92.

Visitation and services were held on Wednesday, September 10, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gramercy. interment in St. Joseph Mausoleum in Paulina.

She was the wife of Elzey J. St. Pierre; the mother of Dr. Jerry J. St. Pierre and mother-in-law of Denise G. St. Pierre of New Orleans. The Grandmother of Jerry J. St. Pierre, Jr. and wife, Sandi D. St. Pierre of Arlington, Texas ; Nicolle S. Hoy and Husband Timothy B. Hoy of Hoover, Ala.; Monique S. McConnell and husband, Kevin G. McConnell of Fort Worth, Texas ; Stephen P. St. Pierre and wife, Whitney H. St. Pierre of Chicago, Ill. Sister of Mrs. Doris G. Vicknair of Gramercy. Brother-in-laws; Allen J. St. Pierre and Wallace J. Pierre. Great Grandmother of Colin T. Hoy, Charles T. Hoy, Marie D. St. Pierre, Alexandra D. St. Pierre, Thomas J. St. Pierre, William G. McConnell and Chloe C. McConnell.

A member of the St. Joseph Altar Society and Catholic Daughters. Preceded in death by sisters, Beulah Hanle and Bertha Vicknair; brothers, Numa Guidry and Eugene Guidry.

Cascio
Corine Giardina Cascio, age 85, Passed away on December 4, 2008. She was a resident of Lutcher and a native of New Orleans. She is survived by her son, Sam “Sammy” Cascio, her daughter, Donna Marie Cascio; a son-in-law, Joe Koenig; devoted nephew, Dennis Cascio and her grandsons: Adam and Joshua Koenig.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Anthony Cascio; her parents: Joseph and Frances Giardina; daughter, Karen Cascio Koenig; brother, Frank Giardina; and sisters: Vergie Raney and Josephine Matherne.

Visitation and services were held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina on Tuesday, December 9. interment in St. Joseph Church Cemetery.

Zeringue
Marie Hymel Zeringue, age 87, Passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2008. She was a resident of Gramercy and a native of Vacherie. She is survived by her husband, Joseph B. Zeringue; daughters: Constance “Connie” Zeringue of Gramercy and Jo Ann Z. Zeringue and son-in-law Tommy of Labadieville; two sisters: Florence Bourgeois and Marie “Bouke” Bourgeois. She is also survived by two grandchildren: T. J. Zeringue and wife Stephanie of Labadieville and Tammy Zeringue of Labadieville; and two great-grandchildren: Star Carter and Skylynn Zeringue. She was preceded in death by her parents, Sevien and Edna Luquette Hymel and her son, Stanley “Bud” Zeringue; her brothers: Lynn and Stanley Hymel and sister, Thelma Roussel.

Visitation will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gramercy on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 from 12:00 Noon until 1:30 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Church Mausoleum in Paulina. Rose Lynn Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.

Bonck
Norman A. Bonck on Thursday, December 4, 2008. Beloved father of Dawn Bonck Hadlow and husband John Hadlow, Donna Bonck Peyton and husband Barry Peyton, Pattie Bonck and fiance' Mark Pierson, Sherry Condit and husband Weldon and Donald Bonck and wife Charlotte. Grandfather of 16, great-grandfather of 26 and great-great-grandfather of 1. Brother of Robert Bonck, Ruth Jinright and Katie Lancaster. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and too many friends to mention. He was preceded in death by two sons: Nick E. Bonck and Barry Michael Bonck, and three brothers: Al Sawaya, Larry Bonck and Clarence Bonck and two sisters: Beverly Bonck and Gloria Bonck Wyndham. He was the owner of Norman’s Body Shop in Garyville for 48 years. Age 86 years. A native and resident of Garyville.

Visitation and services were held at First Baptist Church of Gramercy on Monday, December 8. Burial at a later date.

Luquet
Valsin Paul “Pappy” Luquet Sr. Passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2008, at Oschner Foundation following a heart attack. He was 80 years of age. A native of New Orleans, he moved his family to California, Illinois and North Carolina before retiring to Waveland, Miss. A Hurricane Katrina survivor, he lived in Norco, Destrehan and most recently, Kenner since the storm. He is survived by his wife, Jane Rafferty Luquet; three sons, Valsin Paul Luquet Jr. and his wife, Deidre of Montgomery, Texas ; Dennis Luquet and his wife, Mariane of Walnut Creek, Calif.; and Marty Luquet and his wife, Lori of Norco. Two sisters; Rosalie Wolkart and Nathalie Caragliano and her husband, Frank. Five grandchildren; Daniel, Courtney, Lora Leigh, Gared and Caitlin. Many nieces, nephews, cousins and too many friends to count.

He is preceded in death by his parents; George and Eliza Martin Luquet; brothers, George, Joseph and Earl Luquet. One sister, Annette. A veteran of the U. S. Naval Reserve and a member of the Waveland, Miss., American Legion Post.

Visitation and services were held on Monday, December 8, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norco.

Roper
Stella Bourgeois Roper, native of Remy and resident of Paulina, Passed away on December 3, 2008, at the age of 90. Survived by 14 children and their spouses; Mary Ann and Donald Lambert; Joyce and N. J. Bourgeois; Alfred Jr. and Regina Roper; Rose and Kerry Melancon; Barbara and Roger Kramer; Bibiana and Nelwin Weber; Patricia (Patsy) and Alvin Hebert; Linda and Malcolm Torres; Jacque Roper; Kathleen and David Donaldson; Cornelius (Neil) and Rhonda Roper; Dennis and Susan Roper; Jude and Angela Roper; Gerard and Mary Ellen Roper; Thirty-six grandchildren and 60 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by her parents; Denis and Regina Bourgeois; Levy and Bibianne Schexnayder who actively raised her; beloved husband, Alfred J. Roper Sr.; sister, Adela Snyder; brothers, Vinzule, Albert, Buel, Denis, Jean and Alvin Bourgeois; son-in-law, Eddie Doming Sr.; four grandchildren, Neil Roper, Mary Roper, Pamela Doming and Chris Monnot.

Visitation and services were held on Saturday, December 6, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Paulina. interment followed in the St. Joseph Mausoleum.

Walters
Ruby Ann Broussard Walters on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at 11:20 p.m. Beloved wife of Dennis Walters. Mother of Kittie Smith and Julie Weber. Also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Sister of Gloria Guidry. Age 60. A native of Kaplan, La., and former resident of St. Rose and a resident of Laplace for the past 20 years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend services.

Visitation and services were held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home in LaPlace on Monday, December 8. Burial in St. John Memorial Gardens in LaPlace.

Ancker
Robert E. Ancker on Sun., December 7, 2008, at 2:00 a.m. Beloved husband of Joan Jackson Ancker. Father of Robert A. Ancker M.D. and wife Robyn M.D. and Diane Ancker Broussard and husband Kenneth. Grandfather of Nadia, Natalie and Nicholas Ancker. He was a Marine Sgt. in the Korean War, a member of the LaPlace VFW and an active member in the Baha’I Faith. Age 75. A native of Brooklyn and a resident of LaPlace for the past 44 years.

Visitation and services were held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home in LaPlace on Tuesday, December 9. Burial in St. John Memorial Gardens Cemetery in LaPlace.

Mary Bucher Soniat du Fossat in Destrehan on Monday, November 24, 2008, at 1:40 a.m. Beloved wife of the late George E. Soniat du Fossat. Mother of George E. Soniat du Fossat (Wendy), Leslie S. Blanchard (Jeff). Sister of Alex Bucher. Preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. Grandmother of Craig and Chris Soniat du Fossat and Stephanie Blanchard. Loving aunt of Mary Lee Elston (Jim), Judith Ann Lasseigne (Bob), Gregory Tobin (Laura), Brian Tobin (Stephanie), Hope, Blaze and Hailey Tobin.

Visitation and services were held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Kener on Friday, December 12. Inurnment in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

Alvin Jones of New Orleans at Touro Hospital on Thursday, December 4, 2008. Son of the late Ernest Jones and Gertrude Duhe Rogers Jones. Husband of the late Priscilla Mae Batiste Jones. Father of Denise Jones, Alvin Jr., Frederick Jones, Dennis Jones, the late Jeanette J. Gaylor and Jerome Jones. Brother of Phillip Rogers, Shirley Ross, the late Willie Rogers and nine sisters. Grandfather of Shelita Gaylor, Melanie Turner, Lateria Jones, Nia Jones, Frederick Ross, Sean Gaylor, Jerome Gaylor and the late Kevin McKenzie. Also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Devoted cousin of Dorothy Johnson . Devoted friend of Chester and Jean Lewis. A native of Wallace and a resident of New Orleans. Age 79 years.

Visitation and services were held on Friday, December 12 at the James Chapel B.C. in New Orleans. interment in Willow Grove Cemetery in Wallace.

Mateja
Palmire “Pat” S. Mateja Passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 8:05 p.m. at St. Charles Parish Hospital in Luling. A native of New Sarpy. She was Catholic. Survivors include: daughter, Paula Mateja Chiasson and her husband, Steven of Destrehan; sisters, Isabelle Zeringue, Clorine Zeringue and Helen Zeringue; brothers, Urban Schexnaydre and his wife, Sandra, and Thomas Schexnaydre and his wife, Diane; and grandchildren, Stephanie and Dylan Chiasson.

Preceded in death by: husband, Steve Mateja; parents, Francois and Marie Clorinne Troxclair Schexnaydre; sisters, Phedelise Zeringue and Dora Zeringue; and brother, Francois E. Schexnaydre.

Visitation on Saturday, December 13, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, La. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. from St. Charles Borromeo with Fr. Harry Bugler officiating. interment will follow in the St. Charles Borromeo Mausoleum.

Montz
Ruffin J. Montz on Monday, December 8, 2008, at 10:35 a.m. Beloved husband of the late Marie Loupe Montz. Father of Jimmie Montz and wife Cathy, JoAnn Jacob and husband Wayne, Charlene (Penny) Triche and husband Barry and Cynthia (Cindy) Terrio and husband Peter. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Son of the late Eddie and Bertha Hymel Montz. Brother of Edward (Za) Montz, Ruth Levet, the late Helmuth, Harry and Eddie Montz, Florence Vicknair, Ruby Roussel and Evelyn Graungard. Age 92 years. A native of Edgard and a resident of Reserve for the past 81 years.

Visitation and services were held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve on Friday, December 12. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Songy
Donald J. Songy on Sunday, December 7, 2008, departed this life. He is survived by one sister, Eva Songy Duhe, two brothers Malcolm (Angela) Songy, Oliver (Sedonia) Songy Jr. and one brother-in-law Roy Keller of Reserve, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Theresa Barre Songy, three sisters Lorrita Songy, Loretta Songy Stewart and Olivia Songy Keller, two brothers-in-law Walter Stewart and Edmond Duhe Sr.

A Catholic Mass was held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve on Friday, December 12. interment in Mt. Zion Travelers Cemetery.

Taylor
Kelly Taylor , 33, on Monday, December 8, 2008 at River Parishes Hospital. The Montz native is the beloved wife of Kevin Taylor , mother of Ty Taylor , daughter of Marsha Milton Thomas and Victor Thomas, sister of Brandon Thomas, Gerard Milton. Funeral services were held Friday, December 12 at Covenant Church in Destrehan. interment at St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery in Reserve.

Valentine
Anthony Farrell Valentine Sr. on Saturday, November 29, 2008, in Austin, Texas . Son of the late Joseph Ferdinand and Myrtle Keller Valentine. Father of Anthony (Tony) Jr., Tami V. Allen, Terrance, Aaron, Bryan and Antoinette Valentine. Beloved brother of Joseph Frederick Valentine. Also survived by devoted friends, Sylvia Costa, Sue Arledge, Charlie Taylor and Everage Tuircuit Jr. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Age 69 years. A native of Reserve and a resident of Austin, Texas .

Visitation and services were held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve on Thursday, December 11. interment in St Peter Cemetery in Reserve.
