Patricia Ann Vinet, age 59, entered into eternal rest on Monday, December 8, 2008. She leaves to cherish her most precious memories her loving husband, Paris Vinet Sr.; three children: Ellen, Lisa and Christopher Vinet; three stepchildren: Paris Jr., Keith and Kenney Vinet; and a host of grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Services were held on Friday, December 12, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in LaPlace. Burial will be private.

Cox

Kim Wempren Cox on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at 3:23 p.m. Beloved wife of Robert (Dale) Cox. Mother of the late William Cox. Daughter of the late Roy and Frances Wempren. Sister of Sue Esposito and husband Rick, Dane and wife Sandra, Rodney and wife Gina and Todd Wempren. Daughter-in-law of Henry Sr. and Anna Lee Cox. Sister-in-law of Henry Jr. and wife Geraldine, Gary Sr. and wife Monica, Kevin and wife Susan and Jeffrey and wife Stephanie Cox. Age 52 years. A native of LaPlace and a resident of Reserve for the past 30 years.

Services were held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home Chapel in LaPlace on Saturday, December 13. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Montz

Ruffin J. Montz on Monday, December 8, 2008, at 10:35 a.m. Beloved husband of the late Marie Loupe Montz. Father of Jimmie Montz and wife Cathy, JoAnn Jacob and husband Wayne, Charlene (Penny) Triche and husband Barry and Cynthia (Cindy) Terrio and husband Peter. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Son of the late Eddie and Bertha Hymel Montz. Brother of Edward (Za) Montz, Ruth Levet, the late Helmuth, Harry and Eddie Montz, Florence Vicknair, Ruby Roussel and Evelyn Graungard. Age 92 years. A native of Edgard and a resident of Reserve for the past 81 years.

Visitation and services were held at St. Peter Catholic Church in Reserve on Friday, December 12. Burial in St. Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Sanders

Ecc: 3:1 says, “There’s a time to be born” and in 1908 Aslena was born, and “a time to die” so on Saturday, December 6, 2008, she answered the voice of her Savior at the young age of 100 years old. Beloved wife of the late Willie Sanders Sr. Mother of eight beautiful children. Also survived by 51 grandchildren, 112 great-grandchildren, 47 great-great-grandchildren, daughters- and sons-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A native and resident of Reserve for many years.

She was preceded in death by two sons: William Woddsy and Herbert Sanders.

Services were held at Providence B.C. in LaPlace on Saturday, December 13. interment in Church Cemetery.

Smith

Dayle Madison Smith, a retired federal employee, Passed away on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the age of 70, after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Chicago, Ill., to the late William Novis Smith and June Quigley Smith. Beloved husband of Mary Ellen Heausler Smith for 42 years. Father to William E. H. (Stephanie) and Dayle M M. Smith. Grandfather of Zoe and Billy Smith. Brother of Novis (Anna), Wayne (Merle Jean), Kenneth (Cookie) and Darryl (Cathy). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Millet-Guidry Funeral Home LaPlace on Tuesday, December 16. Private interment.

Songy

Donald J. Songy on Sunday, December 7, 2008, departed this life. He is survived by one sister, Eva Songy Duhe, two brothers Malcolm (Angela) Songy, Oliver (Sedonia) Songy Jr. and one brother-in-law Roy Keller of Reserve, along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Theresa Barre Songy, three sisters Lorrita Songy, Loretta Songy Stewart and Olivia Songy Keller, two brothers-in-law Walter Stewart and Edmond Duhe Sr.

A Catholic Mass was held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve on Friday, December 12. interment in Mt. Zion Travelers Cemetery.

Taylor

Kelly Taylor , 33, on Monday, December 8, 2008 at River Parishes Hospital. The Montz native is the beloved wife of Kevin Taylor , mother of Ty Taylor , daughter of Marsha Milton Thomas and Victor Thomas, sister of Brandon Thomas, Gerard Milton.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 12 at Covenant Church in Destrehan. interment at St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery in Reserve.

Valentine

Anthony Farrell Valentine Sr. on Saturday, November 29, 2008, in Austin, Texas . Son of the late Joseph Ferdinand and Myrtle Keller Valentine. Father of Anthony (Tony) Jr., Tami V. Allen, Terrance, Aaron, Bryan and Antoinette Valentine. Beloved brother of Joseph Frederick Valentine. Also survived by devoted friends, Sylvia Costa, Sue Arledge, Charlie Taylor and Everage Tuircuit Jr. and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends. Age 69 years. A native of Reserve and a resident of Austin, Texas .

Visitation and services were held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Reserve on Thursday, December 11. interment in St Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Venus

Marvel Lynne Aguillard Venus on Thursday, December 11, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. found peace in the arms of her Heavenly Father. Mother of Mary Elizabeth, Meagan Noelle, Josef Levi and Jacob Charles Venus and Brayden Andrew Aguillard. Grandmother of Lysia Russell. Daughter of Reverend Rod Jr. and Mary Aguillard. Sister of Rod Aguillard III, Amber Town, Reverend Stephen Aguillard and Angelle Marix. Father of her children Charles Venus. Fiance' of Jimmy Watson. Age 44 years. A native and resident of LaPlace.

Visitation and services were held at The Reserve Church on Monday, December 15. Burial in St. Joseph Cemetery in Paulina.

Watkins

Charles “CJ” “Trick” Watkins on Friday, December 5, 2008, at River Region Hospice in River Ridge. Son of the late Emily Charles and James Charles Watkins. Father of Orlando Joseph Watkins Sr., Nathaniel Joseph Watkins, Juan “Sug” Michael Watkins Sr., and Alisha Bates. Also survived by nine grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Age 66 years. A native and resident of LaPlace.

Visitation and services were held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic in Reserve on Saturday, December 13. interment in St Peter Cemetery in Reserve.

Zezulka

Edward V. Zezulka on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. Father of Jimmy Zezulka of Birmingham, Ala., Judy Z. Mac of Detroit, Mich., and Amy Z. Kehrer of Detroit, Mich. Son of the late Vincent and Frances Zezulka. Brother of Kenneth Zezulka (Retired Capt. USN, Honorary Consul General of the Czech Republic) of Kenner and the late James Zezulka. Brother-in-law of Dollye M. Zezulka. Also survived by four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Age 80 years. A native of Detroit and a resident of Reserve for the past 2 years.

Visitation and services were held at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home Chapel in Reserve on Monday, December 15. Burial in Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home, 4080 W. Airline Hwy, Reserve, La. 70084.

Waguespack

Leroy Albert Waguespack died on Jan. 14, 2009, at 1:00 a.m. at River Parishes Hospital. Age 79, he lived in Norco for the past 20 years, was a Heavy Machine Operator for American Can Company for 30 years and was a United States Army Veteran of World War II. Surviving relatives include sisters Althea Dupuy, Inez Hinchman, Virgie Navo and Madeline Melancon, brothers Hubert and E. M. Waguespack and nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents Emile and Mathilde Schexnaydre Waguespack, sisters Laura Boudreaux, Ruth Dornier and Marguerite Pekich and brothers Daniel, Melvin and Ronald Waguespack.

Visitation and services were held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Norco. interment followed in the Garden of Memories in Metairie.

Helen Eugenie Reulet Gravois

Helen Eugenie Reulet Gravois, a noted local historian and linguist, died of natural causes on May 29, 2009, at the age of 93. She was a native and life-long resident of Vacherie.

She was married for 61 years to the late Jean Paul Gravois who died in 2001. She was the beloved mother of Lael Gravois Zeringue and husband Roy Zeringue and of Jude Gravois and wife Sonia Steib Gravois of Vacherie; of Mary Gravois Bode and husband Albert Bode and of Margaret Gravois Perret of Metairie; and of Colin Gravois and wife Hamida S. Gravois of Antony, France, near Paris. She was preceded in death by two infant children, Jean Paul Gravois Jr. and Judith Ann Gravois.

She was the grandmother of Veronica Zeringue Granier, Patricia Zeringue Becnel, Linda Zeringue Hubbell, Joanna Zeringue Falgoust and Helen Zeringue Martinez of Vacherie, Hana Gravois of Antony, France, Kenza Gravois of Mexico City, Alison Bode Bourgeois of Richardson, Texas , David Bode of Metairie, Cindy Perret of Clinton, Jonathan Perret of Edgard, Joshua Gravois of Thibodaux, and Abigail Gravois of New Orleans. She was also survived by 10 great-grandchildren: Bonnie Granier Matassa, Aimee, Kelly and Clay Granier, Crystal Becnel Crosby, Amanda Delatte, Roy and Christine Falgoust, Alicia Perret, Reese Martinez and Ryan John “Jack” Bourgeois; and one great-great grandchild: James “Jay” Matassa Jr.

She was the daughter of the late J. Victor Reulet and Helen Poirier Reulet. She was survived by brothers Woodrow Reulet of Bush, John Reulet of Baton Rouge and Lewis Reulet of Gonzales, and sisters Florence Reulet Gravois and Marjorie Reulet Granier of Vacherie, Bernice Reulet Goley of Pensacola and Janice Reulet Daigle of Reserve. She was preceded in death by brothers, Victor, Raymond and Earl Reulet and sisters, Rosemary Reulet Steib and Mae Reulet Gravois.

She was a retired school librarian. She enjoyed reading, writing and traveling. As a result of her services to and involvement in the community, she was the recipient of the 1998 “Good Citizen of the Year” award presented by The Enterprise.

Visitation will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, on Saturday, June 6, 2009, from 7:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. interment will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

Ourso Funeral Home of Donaldsonville is in charge of arrangements.
