Julius LeBlanc

Loving father and grandfather

Services for Julius LeBlanc , 93, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Marcellus Catholic Church with the Rev. Donavon Labbe officiating. interment will be in Broussard Cemetery in Bayou Petit Anse.

Visitation was observed from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and continues today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of services at David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street in New Iberia.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. LeBlanc died at 12:42 a.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at New Iberia Manor South.

Mr. LeBlanc was a retired welder. He was an usher at St. Marcellus Catholic Church for more than 50 years. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, and loved to train retrievers.

He is survived by his son, Donald J. LeBlanc of New Iberia; two grandsons, Dean LeBlanc and Ted Michael LeBlanc , both of New Iberia; three granddaughters, Brenda LeBlanc Migues, Diana LeBlanc Gary and Holly LeBlanc Nereaux, all of New Iberia; four great-grandsons, Brad Michael Migues, Avery Michael Nereaux and Michael and Derrick LeBlanc , all of New Iberia; his brother, Bradley LeBlanc of Kansas; and his sister, Julia LeBlanc Frick of New Iberia.

Mr. LeBlanc was preceded in death by his wife, Mathilde Labit LeBlanc ; his parents, Darmas and Anna Delcambre LeBlanc ; two brothers, Matthew and Joseph B. LeBlanc ; and his sister, Cecila LeBlanc Prine.

David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street of New Iberia, is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Dugas Sr.

Services for Fred Dugas Sr., 85, will begin at 3:15 p.m. today at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Deacon Ken Waguespack officiating. Readings will be done by Hilarie Eldridge Pengelly and Carley Williams and musical selections will be performed by organist Karen Guidry and vocalist Kay Migues. Entombment will be in Holy Family Mausoleum with military graveside rights conducted by V.F.W. Post 1982.

Visitation will be today from 10 a.m. until the time of services at David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street in New Iberia.

A native of St. Martinville and life-long resident of New Iberia, Mr. Dugas died at 7:37 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at New Iberia Manor South.

Mr. Dugas was a local businessman and the former owner of Dugas Auto Repair. He was a World War II veteran in the 7th Division under General Patton. He was a member of the Cruisin' Cajuns Camping Club, Allegro Camping Club and Les Amis Cajun Camping Club.

He is survived by his wife, Calley Romero Dugas of New Iberia; his son, F.J. Dugas Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of New Iberia; two daughters, Darlene Eldridge and her husband, Forrest, of New Iberia and Calley Williams and her husband, Lynn, of Berwick; his wonderful adopted daughter and caretaker, Norma Langlinais "Dugas" of New Iberia; two special friends, Tom and Glenda House of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Dugas Gordon and her husband, Dr. Julien Gordon, of Woods tock, Ga., Forrest Eldridge Jr. of New Iberia, Hilarie Eldridge Pengelly and her husband, Simon, of North Bend, Wash., and Carley and Lance Williams of Berwick; his brother, Lawrance Dugas; and five sisters, Olga Hebert and her husband, Ralph, Anna Bell Halphen and her husband, Ishmel, Lois Babineaux and her husband, Dalton Babineaux Jr., Rosa Mae Porche and her husband, Gilbert, and Lucy Guiberteau and her husband, A.J.

Mr. Dugas was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis and Corrine Wiltz Dugas.

Pallbearers will be F.J. Dugas Jr., Forrest Eldridge, Forrest Eldridge Jr., Lynn and Lance Williams and Tom House.

Honorary pallbearers will be Howard Viator, John Kennedy, Larry Fremin, Dr. Darryl Elias Sr., Jimmy Hebert, Jim Fulgham, Howard Freyou, Bobby Chambers, Elmo Savoie and Boo Myers.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the wonderful staff members at New Iberia Manor South and Dr. Robert Hankenhof for all the care given to our loved one.

Cheryl C. Bourque

BROUSSARD - Services for Cheryl Ann Comeaux Borque, 52, will begin at 12 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Broussard with the Rev. Louis Richard officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. today until the time of services with a rosary at 6 p.m. today at Delhomme Funeral Home in Broussard.

A native of New Iberia and resident of Broussard, Mrs. Bourque died Friday, Aug. 22, 2003, at her residence.

She is survived by her husband, Bradley Bourque of Broussard; three sons, Allen Bourque and his wife, Tonya, of New Iberia, and Nathan Bourque and Clint Bourque and his wife, Sierra, all of Broussard; three daughters, Lisa Segura and her husband, Keith, and Monica Short and her husband, Chad, all of Youngsville, and Crystal Smith and her husband, Travis, of Broussard; three brothers, Johnny and Donald Comeaux of New Iberia and Larry Comeaux of Broussard; two sisters, Barbara Tauzin of Breaux Bridge and Gale Larrivere of Broussard; 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bourque was preceded in death by her parents, Preston Paul Comeaux and Hazel Bourque Comeaux; and one sister, Becky Sonnier.

Pallbearers will be Allen, Nathan and Clint Bourque and Johnny, Donald and Larry Comeaux.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Comeaux and Chad Short.

Delhomme Funeral Home of Broussard is in charge of arrangements.

Murphy "Poppa Smurk" Pradier Sr.

Loving father, grandfather and brother

ST. MARTINVILLE - Services for Murphy "Poppa Smurk" Pradier Sr., 74, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Notre Dame Catholic Church with the Rev. Thomas Mullally officiating. interment will be in Praise Temple Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. today with a rosary at 7 p.m. and will continue from 7 a.m. until the time of services Monday at Golden Meadows Funeral Home.

A native and life-long resident of St. Martinville, Mr. Pradier died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2003, at St. Martinville Nursing Center following a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Pradier of St. Martinville; his son, Murphy Pradier Jr. of St. Martinville; two daughters, Yolanda P. Anthony and Lobersia M. Pradier, both of St. Martinville; three brothers, Clifton Pradier of St. Martinville, Henry Pradier of New Orleans and Earl Pradier of Houston; his sister, Joyce Simon of Port Arthur, Texas ; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Pradier was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth K. Pradier; his father, Miteall Pradier; and his granddaughter, Rochell R. Anthony.

Pallbearers will be Quincy, Sherman and Clifton Pradier, Jordy Anthony, Keven Mallery and Bryan Gardner.

Golden Meadows Funeral Home of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.

Lydia B. Bernard

BROUSSARD - Services for Mrs. J.H. "Fils" Bernard, 104, the former Lydia Bernard, will begin at 10 a.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. today with a rosary at 7 p.m. and will continue from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Monday at David Funeral Home in Lafayette.

A native of Vermilion Parish and resident of Broussard, Mrs. Bernard died at 2 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2003, at her residence.

David Funeral Home of Lafayette on Youngsville Highway is in charge of arrangements.

R. J. Young Sr.

Funeral services for R. J. "Russell" Young Sr.,88, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Entombment will be in Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. Thursday at David Funeral Home, with a 7 p.m. rosary, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday until the time of services.

A native of Lockport and a resident of New Iberia for 56 years and a recent resident of Tampa, Fla., Mr. Young died at 8:08 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003, at the V.A. Hospital in Tampa.

Mr. Young retired as a sales representative for a crane supply company. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3425 and a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr. Langlois Assembly. He was also a veteran of World War II.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Irene Kelly Young of Tampa, Fla.; his son, Russel J. Young Jr. of Kenner; his daughter, Susan Young Jenkins of Tampa, Fla.; his sister, Dottie Biggs of Metairie; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Young was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Angel Foret Young; his brothers, Aswell, Caldwell, and Earnell Young; and his sisters, Ellen Banks and Emma Wakefield.

Emile Plaisance Jr.

Funeral services for Emile Joseph Plaisance Jr., 76, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven LeBlanc officiating. interment will be in Beau Pre Cemetery in Jeanerette.

Visitation will be from 6:30-9 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Of Jesus Catholic Church only, with a vigil service at 8:45 p.m. at the church, which will reopen at 8:30 a.m. Friday until the time of services.

A native of Larose and a resident of New Iberia, Mr. Plaisance died at 9:50 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 7, 2003 at his residence from complications with cancer.

Mr. Plaisance was an employee at Iberia Savings Bank. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Alaskan Theater and was a member of the VFW. He graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute (U.L.L.) with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration after being selected as the outstanding business student of his graduating class. After graduation, Mr. Plaisance accepted a position at United Gas Corporation (Center Point Energy) where he worked from January of 1950 through July of 1962. He joined what was then known as Iberia Savings and Loan Association in 1962, serving initially as office manager. He rose through the ranks to become secretary-treasurer, executive vice president, president, vice chairman of the board, and chairman of the board. Mr. Plaisance also held regional and state leadership positions in the banking industry. He was a member of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas' board of directors from 1986-1989, serving as vice chairman of this board in 1989. He was chairman of the Louisiana League of Savings Institutions in 1989, having previously served as vice chairman and acting chairman of this industry group. His contributions were not limited solely to the banking industry. Mr. Plaisance received the Jaycee Distinguished Service Award and was selected as the Outstanding Young Man of the Year in 1961. He was cited as the Outstanding Kiwanian in 1970. He served on the Board of Directors of the United Fund from 1956-1971, and on the Lafayette Diocese Finance Committee board of directors from 1974-1976. He was president of the New Iberia Jaycees in 1957 and president of the Iberia Parish United Fund in 1963. He was president of the New Iberia Kiwanis Club from 1977-78, and a board member of the Shadows Council from 1984-1992. In 1996, he received the Second Wind Hall of Fame award in recognition of his work to improve the community subsequent to his retirement and later served as president of this organization. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he served on the management and finance and fund -raising committees and was president of the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Sacred Heart Parish Knights of Columbus, Council 11792 and a Eucharistic minister. He also served on the P.E.P.I. board of directors.

Mr. Plaisance is survived by his wife, Ann M. Morrow Plaisance; a son, Sam Plaisance of Denver, Colo.; two daughters, Dr. Suzette Bryan and her husband, John, of Mandeville, and Lizanne Marchand and her husband, Mike , of Gonzales; two stepsons, John Morrow and his wife, Andrea, of Clinton, Minn., and Robert Morrow and his wife, Susie, of Cedar Park, Texas ; five grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and his siblings, which include Edwin and O'neil Plaisance, Frances Stevens, Margie Landeche, Jenny Defelice, Rea Muller, and Winnie Comradelle, all of the Larose area.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alida LeBlanc Plaisance and Emile Plaisance; and his siblings which include, Warren and Frank Plaisance, and Gonette LeBouef.

Pallbearers will be Sam Plaisance, John and Beu Bryan, Mike Marchand,

John and Robert Morrow.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Olivier Lawn Tennis Club.

Memorials may be made to the Cancer Association Of Iberia Parish, Hospice of Acadiana, and Sacred Heart Building Fund.
