Ralph W. Barton

Loving father and grandfather

Funeral services for Ralph William Barton, 86, will be held at noon Saturday, at David Funeral Home with the Rev. Harlan Gott officiating, along with military graveside rites conducted by the VFW post 1982. interment will be in Beau Pre Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services, Saturday at David Funeral Home.

A native of Greer, S.C. and a resident of Jeanerette and a former resident of New Iberia, Mr. Barton died at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2003 at Rehabilitation Hospital of Acadiana in Lafayette.

Mr. Barton retired from the City of New Iberia as a laborer. He was in the Army and served in W.W.II. He was an avid sports fan.

He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn B. Douglas and her husband, Joe Douglas of Corpus Christi, Texas ; two brothers, Earl and Hubert Barton of Greer, S.C.; two granddaughters, Mekelle Douglas of Forth Worth, Texas , and Christina Douglas Gabrysch and her husband, Dr. Jeremy Gabrysch of Dallas, Texas ; and his grandson, Joey Douglas of Corpus Christi, Texas .

Mr. Barton was preceded in death by his wife, Teeny Perry Barton; his father, Daniel Barton; his mother, Lena Hawkins Barton; a brother, Guy Barton; and his sister, Beatrice Foster.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

David Funeral Home North, Trotter Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Jack Rutherford

MITTIE - Funeral services for Jack Rutherford, 84, will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Ardoin Funeral Home. interment will be in Cherry Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, which will reopen at 10 a.m. until the time of servicesThrusday.

A resident of Mittie, Mr. Rutherford died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, in Oberlin.

Mr. Rutherford started in the oilfield at 17, served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater, moved to New Iberia in 1955 and worked in the oilfield in South Louisiana until retired in 1953 before moving to Mittie. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1953. He raised cattle for several years and owned and operated White Sands Canoe Rental in Mittie for 5 years. He was a man of high moral beliefs and never compromised with what he thought was right. He loved the youth, outdoors, and riding on his four wheeler in the woods. Jack lived his life for his family.

He is survived by his four sons, Jack A. Rutherford and his wife of Lafayette, Kenny Rutherford and his wife of Lawtey, Fla., Don Rutherford and his wife of New Iberia, Mike Rutherford and his wife of Lafayette; one daughter, Candy R. Warren and her husband of Carencro; his grandchildren, Jimmy Rutherford, Cheryl Leigh Rutherford, and Sean Rutherford, all of Lafayette, David Rutherford of Fla., Perry Rutherford and Robin R. Smith, both of Ga., Carolyn Warren of Miss. and John R. Warren of Nev.; his great-grandchildren, Danielle Delahoussaye, Keisha Rutherford, Mattew R. Smith, and Lainey Smith; two brothers, Dan and Vic Rutherford, both of Wash.; one sister, Connie Nelaon of Okla.

Mr. Rutherford was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Rhea Rutherford; his parents, Reuel S. and Myrtle M. Rutherford; his brother, Aubrey Rutherford; and his sister, Geneva Mae R. Kirk.

Ardoin Funeral Home of Kinder is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Theall

YOUNGSVILLE - Services for Margaret LeBlanc Theall, 96, will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at St. Anne Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at David Funeral Home in Lafayette with a 7 p.m. rosary and will continue Monday from 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A resident of Youngsville, Mrs. Theall died at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at a Lafayette hospital.

David Funeral Home, Youngsville Highway in Lafayette, is in charge of the arrangements.

Elsie Delaune Barras

ST. MARTINVILLE - Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church for Elsie Delaune Barras, 93, who died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, at St. Martinville Rehab and Nursing Home in St. Martinville.

Entombment will be in St. Michael Mausoleum in St. Martinville.

Mrs. Barras was a member of the St. Martinville Garden Club and Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include two daughters, Joy Smith and her husband, Charles, of Baton Rouge and Sue Laviolette and her husband, George, of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Tesa Laviolette of Sunset, Mike and Steve Laviolette, both of St. Martinville, Michelle Smith of Baton Rouge, Eric Smith of Austin, Texas , Stacy Tucker of Plano, Texas , and John Smith of Tulsa, Okla; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell J. Barras; her father, Fred Delaune; her mother, Olive Decuir Delaune and one sister, Sadie Girour.

The family requested that visiting hours be observed from 8 a.m. Monday until the time of services. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Monday.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Mike and Steve Laviolette and Eric and John Smith and great-grandsons Corey Pritchard and Rusty Laviolette.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St. Suite 200, Lafayette, La. 70503-3240.

Pellerin Funeral Homes of St. Martinville is in charge of arrangements.

James Jordan

JEANERETTE - Funeral services for James "Toota" Jordan, 67, will be held at noon Saturday at Alex Lovett Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Moncoiffe officiating. interment will be in St. James Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home Saturday.

A native of Jeanerette and a resident New Iberia for 15 years, Mr. Jordan died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Iberia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Jordan was a friendly person who enjoyed music and dancing and was an avid outdoor sportsman. He did everything to the best of his ability.

He is survived by his cousin, Mary Phillips of New Iberia, who cared for him after the death of his parents because of his disability; three other cousins, Ora Lee Phillips of Glenco, Henry Phillips of Jeanerette and Belvin Givens of Baton Rouge; two sisters, Wanda Phillips of Jeanerette and Gloria Wilkins of Los Angeles; three aunts, Idella Baptiste of Galveston, Texas , Georgina Phillips of Jeanerette, and Maggie Phillips of New Orleans.

Mr. Jordan was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Phillips Valen; his father, Richard Jordan; and his stepfather, Ivory "Ross" Valen.

Pallbearers will be Henry and John Phillips, Jessie Gibson, Nathaniel JeanLouis, Mr. P. Paul and Kenny Ray Baptiste.

Honorary pallbearers will be immediate family members.

Alex Lovett Funeral Home of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.

Casey Sorrell

JEANERETTE - Funeral services for Casey Sorrell, 37, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Light House Christian Center with Rev. Ellis Provost officiating. interment will be in the Sorrell Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at the church.

A resident of Jeanerette, Mr. Sorrell died at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

He is survived by six brothers, Jerry Sorrell of Four Corners, Edward Brousssard, Edarryl and Peter Lumpkins and wife Sandra, all of Jeanerette, and Garlord and Sanders Sorrell, both of Houston; five sisters, Essie Lee Simpson and Clara Jackson , both of Four Corners, Alberta Joseph of New Iberia, and Veronica Clay and Dora Sutton, both of Jeanerette and four special nieces, Desmond, Jasmine, Jazzlyn and Rosemary.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter Sorrell and Rosemary Lumpkins and two brothers, Peter Sorrell Jr. and Clifford Lumpkins.

Pallbearers will be Aaron and Arthur Marks, Chad Jackson , Lionel Ray and Curtis Lumpkins and Henry Manuel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Peter and Eddaryl Lumpkins, Garlord, Jerry and Sanders Lumpkins and Edward Broussard.

Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary J. Doiron

FRANKLIN - Services for Mary John Doiron were held today at 11 a.m. at Church of Assumption with the Rev. Russo officiating. interment was in the Franklin Cemetery.

A native of Erath and resident of Franklin for many years, Mrs. Doiron died Wednesday, Oct. 1, 1997, at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Our Lady Star of the Sea Society and a pink lady at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

Mrs. Doiron is survived by one son, C.J. Doiron Jr. of Harahan; two daughters, Mary Ann Doiron Phillips of Largo, Fla., and Carolyn Doiron of Berwick; one brother, Sliman John of New Iberia; three sisters, Alice J. Boustany of Lafayette, Louise Bourgeois and Elaine John, both of Erath; a dear friend, Annie Stansbury; two grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.J. "Connie" Doiron; her parents, Saleem and Latifie Gabriel John; and four sisters, Adele Joseph, Rosie John, Agnes Doumit and Mabel John.

Memorial donations may be made to The Church of Assumption, 913 Main St., Franklin, La. 70538.

Ibert's Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Edith B. Ledet

TAMPA, Fla. - Services for Edith Bailey Ledet, 75, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Claver Catholic Church with the Rev. Ed Lamp and Rev. Robert Goodwin officiating. interment will be in the Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Aikens Funeral Home until the time of services.

A native of Loreauville and resident of Tampa, Mrs. Ledet died Sunday, Sept. 28, 1997.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Ledet of Cheyenne, Wy., and John Ledet of New Iberia; and three daughters, Carolyn A. Jackson of Petersburg, Va., Linda Allen of New Orleans and Sylvia M. Fontenette of Tampa; three brothers, Joseph Bailey, Peter Bailey and John Bailey; one sister, Nellie Bailey; two daughters-in-law, Pearl Ledet and Geraldine Ledet; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Ledet Jr.; two brothers; and three sisters.

The Aikens Funeral Home of Tampa is in charge of arrangements.
