Cleveland J. Verret

Services for Cleveland Jacob Verret, 84, will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike McLaurin officiating. interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 8 a.m. Thursday until the time of services at Evangeline Funeral Home.

A native of Bayou Chene and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Verret died at 11:03 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, at his residence.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Verret is survived by two sisters-in-law, Helen Curry and Jane Stockstill, both of New Iberia; one sister, Mary Diamond of Bayou Sorrell; one nephew, Floyd John Curry; one great-nephew, John Curry; and two great-nieces, Genee' Curry and Rebecca Curry, all of New Iberia; and numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bessie Stockstill Verret; his parents, Clayton Verret and Eliza Mendoza Verret; three brothers, Burl Verret, Jessie Verret and Lilton Verret; and one sister, Ethel Curtis.

Pallbearers will be members of the family.

Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 119 Jefferson Street, New Iberia, La. 70560.

The Evangeline Funeral Home Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Iva M. Smith

MANY - Services for Mrs. James Clifton Smith, 80, the former Iva Maines, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Warren Meadows Funeral Home. interment will be in the Bethsadia Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2-10 p.m. Thursday at the Evangeline Funeral Home in New Iberia and from 12 p.m. until the time of services at Warren Meadows Funeral Home of Many.

A native of Many and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Smith died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997, in a local hospital.

She is survived by four sons, Donald Smith of Jay, Fla., Kenneth Smith of Alice, Texas , Samuel "Joe" Smith of Scott and Bennett Smith of Decatur, Ala.; two daughters, Mrs. Preston (Helen) Hulin of New Iberia and Mrs. Kernie (Becky) Boutte of Metairie; one sister, Mrs. Nell Husky of Prescott, Ark.; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James Clifton Smith; her parents, Willie and Mamie Trammel Maines; two sons, James Presley Smith and Clifton David Smith; one sister, Lucille Blackwell; and one grandson, Joshua Smith.

Memorials may be made to the local American Heart Association or the local Cystic Fibrosis Association.

The Evangeline Funeral Home Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Howard G. Gray

Services for Howard Gerard Gray, 39, will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with the Rev. Charles Thevis officiating. interment will be the Greenlawn Cemetery in Lafayette.

Visitation will be from 4-9 p.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. rosary at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen Thursday at 8 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Lake Charles and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Gray died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 1997.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Viator Gray of New Iberia; one son, Jacob L. Gray of Lafayette; one daughter, Kacie Faye Gray of New Iberia; his father and mother-in-law, Purlis and Elda Rouly Viator of New Iberia; and one sister, Elizabeth G. Johnson of Lafayette.

Mr. Gray was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Elizabeth Masor Gray; one brother, Thomas Gray; and one niece, Jenny Johnson .

Pallbearers will be Tony Sturlese, Jacob Gray, James Leach, Frank Stolz, Sammy Cartimiglia, Raymond Johnson , Jude LeMaire, David Lester and Mac Wood.

The Evangeline Funeral Home Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Kendric Lively

JEANERETTE - Services for Kendric "K-Live" Lively, 20, will begin at 8 p.m. Friday at Morning Pilgrim Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Moncriffe officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Friday at Alex Lovett Funeral Home Chapel and from 5-10 p.m. at the church, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday.

A native of Jeanerette and resident of Port Arthur, Texas , for eight years, Mr. Lively died Sunday, Oct. 12, 1997, at Iberia Medical Center.

He was employed by Cherokee Construction Co. of Beaumont, Texas , as a scaffold builder.

Mr. Lively is survived by his father and stepmother, Alvin and Michelle Lively; his mother and stepfather, Shelia C. and Larry Fontenette Sr.; one daughter, Keandra Monique Lively of Jeanerette; a very special and devoted friend, Tahesha Little; four brothers, Alvin (Shawn) Lively of Jeanerette, Larry Fontenette, Derrick Fontenette and Travis Fontenette, all of Port Arthur; his grandparents, Viola F. Charles, and Mr. and Mrs. Jessie William of Jeanerette; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Albert Charles; one uncle, Gregory P. Charles; and two aunts, Debra Lynn Harding and Janice Charles.

Pallbearers will be immediate family members and friends.

The Alex Lovett Funeral Service Inc. of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.

Jean R. Landry

ERATH - Services for Jean Roy (Pe-Too) Landry, 77, will begin at 3:30 p.m. today at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church with the Rev. Wayne Duet officiating. interment will be in the Migues Cemetery.

Frank Lockette

Services for Frank "Horse" Lockette, 91, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Journet and Bolden Funeral Home with the Rev. Earnest Davis officiating. interment will be in the St. Matthew Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 7:30 a.m. Friday at Journet and Bolden Chapel.

A native of New Iberia, Mr. Lockette died at 1:48 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, 1997.

He is survived by four daughters, Mary Vanderbilt, Mary Morton, and Emily Johnson , all of New Iberia, and Linda Lockette of Kansas; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lockette was preceded in death by his wife, Gracie Lockette, one son, Edward Lockette; four brothers, Alex Lockette, Earnest Lockette, Robert Lockette and Nora Lockette; and one sister, Ella Lockette.

Pallbearers will be friends and family members.

The Journet and Bolden Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Alfred P. Nelson Sr.

Services for Alfred P. Nelson Sr., 78, will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Picard officiating. interment will be in the St. Edwards Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. Friday with a 7 p.m. rosary, at Jacquemoud-David Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Saturday until time of services.

A native of Coteau and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Nelson died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, 1997, at his residence.

He was a warehouse manager for Standard Supply and Hardware Co.

Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Felicienne Frilot Nelson of New Iberia; one son, Denfer Boutte Sr. of New Iberia; two daughters, Joyce Nelson Boyance and Mary Ann Nelson Levy, both of New Iberia; two brothers, James Nelson of St. Martinville and Luma Nelson Jr. of Coteau; one sister, Rita Alviar of San Francisco; granddaughters, Vickie Colar and Angela Pellerin, both of New Iberia; great-grandson, Patrick Boutte of New Iberia; one sister-in-law, Irene Broussard of New Iberia; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Luma and Nila Olivier Nelson Sr.; one son, Alfred Nelson Jr.; two daughters, Juanita Nelson Bouttie and Helen Nelson Fontenot; four brothers, Dennis Nelson, Joseph Nelson, Leo Nelson and William Nelson; and one sister, Lilly Mae St. Julien.

Pallbearers will be Denfer Boutte Sr., Mark Boyance, Edward Scott Fontenot, Albert Nelson, Arnold Nelson and Terry Pellerin Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Orlando Bouttie, Donald Boyance, Merv Boyance, Elvis Colar, Radolph Lasalle, Roland Levy, James Nelson and Luma Nelson Jr.

The Jacquemoud-David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Frank Lockette

Lelia T. Fontenot

VILLE PLATTE - Services for Lelia T. Fontenot, 88, were held Friday, Oct. 3, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Church. interment was in the Gates of Heaven Cemetery.

A resident of Ville Platte, Mrs. Fontenot died at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997, at Savoy Medical Center in Mamou.

She is survived by three sons, Woodrow Fontenot of New Iberia, Rivernel Fontenot of Mamou and Roderick Fontenot of Ville Platte; one daughter, Anetta Fontenot of Ville Platte; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Ardoin's Funeral Home of Ville Platte was in charge of arrangements.
