Rose H. David

Services for Mrs. Richard David Sr., 73, the former Rose Mae "Sweet" Holleman, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with the Rev. Albert Boumans officiating. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. rosary at David Mortuary, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. David died 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at her residence.

She was a housewife.

Mrs. David is survived by five sons, Bill David, John Adam David, Patrick David, Paul David and Richard David Jr., all of New Iberia; one daughter, Dianne David Crochet of New Iberia; two brothers, Gilbert J. Holleman and Phillip Holleman Jr., both of New Iberia; two sisters, Gloria Boutte of New Iberia and Janet Cassica of New Orleans; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Dick David Sr.; and her parents, Phillip and Unice Breaux Holleman Sr.

Pallbearers will be Ovide Crochet Jr., Bill David, Patrick David, Paul David, Richard David III and Richard David Jr.

Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny David and Gilbert Holleman.

The David Mortuary of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Lula Mae M. Phillips

FOUR CORNERS - Services for Mrs. Frederick Phillips Sr., 82, the former Lula Mae Martin Matthews Phillips, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at St. John Baptist Church with the Rev. Edward Jordan Sr. officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.

A native of Port Arthur, Texas , and resident of Four Corners, Mrs. Phillips died at 7:20 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, at Franklin Foundation Hospital.

She is survived by one son, Eugene Matthews Sr. of Port Arthur; two stepsons, Frederick Phillips Jr. of Baldwin and Floyd Phillips of Beaumont, Texas ; four daughters, Mrs. Willie B. (Lucille) Smith Sr., Mrs. Cleveland (Amy) Jackson Sr. and Ms. Barbara Matthews, all of Four Corners, and Mrs. Willie (Cora Bell) Jack of New Iberia; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Phillips Sr.; her former husband, Robert Matthews; her parents, Frank Martin and Cora Ringo Joseph; one sister, Sarah Burney-Joseph; one grandson, Donald Ray Smith; one granddaughter, Cynthia Lockette-Walker; and one great-grandson, Lawrence Smith.

Pallbearers will be Chavers Lockette, Cleveland Jackson Jr., Phillip Matthews, Eugene Matthews Jr., Eugene Smith, Christopher P. Jack, Robert Matthews, Raymond Burney and Nelson Burney.

Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Matthews Sr., Cleveland Jackson Sr., Willie Jack, Willie B. Smith Sr., Elton Prejean, Hilton Jack and Wilbur Lockette.

The Otis Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret A. Fleming

Funeral services for Margaret (Mike) Anderson Fleming will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, in the First United Methodist Church of New Iberia with interment in Rose Hill Cemetery. The pastor, Rev. Mike McLaurin will officiate.

Visiting hours at Evangeline Funeral Home will be Friday, Oct. 31, from 5-9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m., and from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday.

Mrs. Fleming, 71, died at 12:22 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, in Phoenix, Ariz., at the home of her daughter, Lili Patricia Fleming.

Born in Lake Charles, she grew up in Lafayette and had resided in New Iberia since 1945. She was valedictorian of the Lafayette High School Class of 1944, attended Texas Woman's University (formerly Texas State College for Women) for three years and later was awarded a degree in Interior Design from the University of Southwestern Louisiana .

For 25 years she enjoyed an active professional career as a residential and commercial architectural designer in the Acadiana area, focusing on custom homes. Additionally, her expertise in U.S. government specifications and regulations produced several low-income housing subdivisions and low-rent housing projects in Acadiana.

Also active in civic and cultural organizations, she was a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Friends of the Humanities at USL, Friends of Rip Van Winkle Gardens, the First United Methodist Church, Regina Andalusia queen in 1961, the Olivier Lawn Tennis Club, Friends of the Shadows-on-the-Teche, Shadows Service League, which she had served as secretary, president in 1996-97 of the Fortnightly Club of Abbeville, Les Sons du Teche choral group, and several bridge clubs and tennis leagues in the area. She was a former member of the New Iberia Woman's Club and Les Amies.

She is survived by her mother, Virginia Harvin Anderson of New Iberia; two daughters, Margaret Jean Fleming Kangas and Lili Patricia Fleming, both of Phoenix; her grandson, Ian Kangas-Fleming of Phoenix; her former husband, Arthur Fleming of New Iberia; her twin sister, Mrs. Huey F. (Patricia) Segura of New Iberia; one brother, Gordon H. Anderson of New Orleans; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, John Berry Anderson; one son, Arthur Scott Fleming; and one brother, John B. Anderson Jr.

Pallbearers will be James L. Anderson, Huey Segura Jr., Russ Wilson, Ian Kangas-Fleming, Robert Fleming and Dr. Walter J. Nieri, all of Phoenix.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Jacob LaHasky, Mark Pharr, Victor Lefeve of Baton Rouge, Huey F. Segura, Richard Ferrell, Dr. William Lovell of Baton Rouge, Dr. Carroll Bernard, Gerald Simon, Dr. J.L. Beyt III, Al Landry, Beldon E. Fox, Gordon H. Anderson and Jean-Marc van Greitheisen of Liege, Belgium.

Memorials may be made to Shadows-on-the-Teche, 317 E. Main Street, New Iberia, La., 70560, or to a charity of choice.

Wilson J. LeBlanc

Services for Wilson J. "Moonie" LeBlanc , 73, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Revs. Keith Derouen and Daniel Picard officiating. Entombment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum with military graveside services conducted by VFW Post 1982 of New Iberia. Taps will be played by Brandon and Braedon Broussard.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at the Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday with a military ritual conducted by the VFW Post 1982 at 9 a.m.

A native of Avery Island and resident of New Iberia, Mr. LeBlanc died at 3:31 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, in a Jeanerette nursing home.

He worked for 46 years with International Salt Co. (Cargill Salt) until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of the U.S. Air Force and served during World War II, a member in good standing of the American Legion Post 335 continuously for 50 years, the VFW Post 1982 and the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church Knights of Columbus Council 3425.

Mr. LeBlanc is survived by his wife, Leatrice Hebert LeBlanc of New Iberia; two sons, Robbie LeBlanc and his wife Mary Dronet LeBlanc , and Shane LeBlanc and his wife Tracy Berthelot LeBlanc , all of New Iberia; one daughter, Karin LeBlanc Duhon and her husband Waldon Duhon of New Iberia; one brother, Earl LeBlanc of New Iberia; six grandchildren, Quincy LeBlanc , Rocky LeBlanc , Elizabeth LeBlanc Broussard, Brittni Duhon and Cody LeBlanc , all of New Iberia and Stephanie LeBlanc of Rayne; three great-grandchildren; Marcus Boudreaux Jr. and Harley Boudreaux, both of Rayne and Timothy Broussard Jr. of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Huval and Anita Barrilleaux LeBlanc ; four sisters, Yvonne Landry, Enola Labauve, Wilda Terrell and Doris Hulin.

Pallbearers will be Rocky LeBlanc , Howard "Monk" Terrell Jr., David Hulin, Kermit Landry, Edward "Black" Louviere, Quincy Leblanc and John "Joe" Saunier.

Honorary pallbearers will be Melvin "Boo" Derouen, George Myers Jr., Horace "Nocko" Lennie, Preston Boudreaux, Unell Verret, Elton "Red" Boutte, Percy Henry, Wilfred Langlinais, Larry Langlinais, Errol "Romo" Romero and Elverse Trahan.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Lafayette, La., 70503.

Emick J. Romero

Emick J. Romero, 71, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 1997, in Long Island, N.Y.

A native of Avery Island, former resident of New Iberia and resident of Long Island, Mr. Romero was a retired welder and a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War and World War II.

He is survived by two daughters, Debra Ann Jeansonne of New Iberia and Miki DaCosta of Long Island; two sons-in-law, Julius Jeansonne of New Iberia and Ricky DaCosta of Long Island; one sister, Ethel Derouen of New Iberia; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Romero was preceded in death by his parents, Placid Romero and Louise Savoy Romero; and one brother, Eddie Romero.

The David Mortuary of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Anthony Dugas

Services for Anthony "Ga-Ga" Dugas, 25, will begin at 7 p.m. today at Journet and Bolden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Francis Davis officiating. interment will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the St. Matthew Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home, which will reopen at 7:30 a.m. Saturday.

A native of New Iberia, Mr. Dugas died at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997.

He is survived by a special friend, Cassandra Parker of New Iberia; his parents, Calvin Dugas of Houston and Norma St. Julien Dugas of New Iberia; his stepfather, Roger Willis of New Iberia; his stepmother, Ida Dugas of Houston; one daughter, Karen Denise Dugas of New Iberia; two stepdaughters, Carliss Parker and Carlesha Parker both of New Iberia; four brothers, Calvin Dugas Jr., Karl A. Dugas and Rogers G. Dugas, all of New Iberia, and David Dugas of Houston; and three sisters, Michelle Dugas of New Iberia, Tamara Dugas and Lana Dugas both of Houston.

Mr. Dugas was preceded in death by one sister, Karen Dugas; his paternal grandmother, Lucille Celestine; and his maternal grandparents, Margaret Simmon and Sidney St. Julien.

Pallbearers will be Rocky Randall, Ken Zeno, Ricky Polite, Ronald Hopkins, Robert White and Whitney Lee.

Honorary pallbearers will be Willie George, Antonio Francis, David Boyance, Robert Lee Raymond, Alvin Parker and Harrison Welcome.

The Journet and Bolden Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
