Funeral services for Mrs. Eula Mae Potts Tilley, 74, of Jonesboro were held Wednesday, June 22, 2005 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Nathan Luellen and Paul Watts officiating. Burial followed at the Gayla Traina Cemetery. Mrs. Tilley Passed away Monday, June 20, 2005 in Jonesboro.Born July 11, 1930 in Bienville, she was a housewife.

Mrs. Tilley is survived by her husband of 56 years, Mr. C. C. Tilley of Jonesboro; two daughters, Peggy Robinson and husband Glen of Jonesboro and Patsy Lee of Sulphur; three sons, Charles W. Tilley and wife Pam of Jonesboro, Robert Tilley of Jonesboro, and David Tilley and wife JoAnna of Jonesboro; five sisters, Docia Marie Smith of Bienville, Dorothy Lee Neely of Shreveport, Inez Sylvie of Campti, Helen Ruth Hughes of Coushatta, and Annie Belle Desadiere of Winnfield; two brothers, Elmer Potts, of Campti, and Hester Potts of Winnfield; fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Pallbearers were Jeffrey McBride, Paul Watts, Mike Wilson, Clay Garner, Brian Martin, Wayne Anderson and Tracy Mathews

Burk
David Andrew (Drew) Burk, 53
Funeral services for David Andrew (Drew) Burk, 53, former Zachary Chief of Police, will be held at Plains Presbyterian Church Saturday at 1:00 PM with Rev. Woody Markert officiating; assisted by Rev. Randy Lee and Bro. Russell Rhodes. Mr. Burk was a native of Zachary and had lived near Jonesboro for two years. Visitation was at Edmonds Funeral Home in Jonesboro, LA on Friday, July 1, 2005 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and at the Plains Presbyterian Church in Zachary on Saturday, July 2, 2005 from 11:00 - 1:00 PM. A member of the Zachary Police Department for 21 years, Mr. Burk served as Chief of Police from 1998 until 2002. He was the co-developer of the East Baton Rouge Parish Enhanced 911 System. He was a graduate of and an instructor for the LSU Law Enforcement Academy. He was past president of the National Emergency Number Association and member of the Associated Public Safety Communications Organization. He was presently a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and formerly a lifelong member of Plains Presbyterian Church. One of the passions of his life was Civil War History and memorabilia and he generously shared his knowledge with many organizations and people throughout the state. He was not only a student of history, but also a collector. He served his country in the US Army in 1973-1974. He was a graduate of Zachary High School and attended LSU and Louisiana Tech.

Born January, 16, 1952, Mr. Burk died June 30, 2005. He is survived by his wife Sandra Tarver Burk of Chatham, LA; two daughters, Carlie Cresse and husband Brad and Haley Burk all of Baton Rouge, LA; mother, Jane Mills Burk of Zachary, LA; brother, William Jack Burk, Jr. and wife Jenni of Zachary, LA; sister, Mitzy Gregory and husband Alan of Zachary, LA; nephews, Ben Gregory and wife Marquetta, Shawn Gregory and wife Nicole, Will Burk, Evan Burk and wife Jennifer Burk, and great nephew, Kohen Gregory, his parents in law, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Tarver of Chatham, LA. He was preceded in death by his father William Jack Burk, Sr. Serving as pallbearers are Dr. Wayne Gravois, Dr. Martin Morris, Mr. Michael Cherry, Mr. Henry Martinez, Mr. Ronnie Albritton, Mr. Jerry Parker, Will Burk and Evan Burk.

Delbert S. Clark, 91

Funeral services for Delbert S. Clark, 91, of Quitman, were held July 1, 2005 at Hodge Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Rockett and Rev. Dwayne M. Boudreaux officiating. Burial followed in the Antioch Cemetery.Mr. Clark Passed away June 29 in Ruston. Born November 6, 1913 in Jonesboro, he was a retired supervisor for the Bag Mill. Mr. Clark was a member and deacon of the Hodge Baptist Church, and a member of the Jonesboro-Hodge Lions Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Clark; his parents, Luther and Maudie Clark; one brother, Durwood Clark; and one sister, Wanda Turner. He is survived by one daughter, Carol Clark of Quitman; one son, Doug Clark and wife Linda of Chatham; two sister, Elaine Stewart of Shreveport, and Wilda Boone of North Hodge; two step- grandchildren, Chris Brady of Bowling Green, KY and Jason Brady of West Monroe. Pallbearers were Woody Clark, Gary Boone, Butch Garner, Stevie Turner, Travis Hall, and Delwyn Peters.

Dubois
Marie Dubois, 89

Funeral services for Marie Dubois, 89, of Jonesboro, were held June 29 in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Herb Dickerson and Rev. Matthew Wolhfarth officiating. Burial followed in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Ms. Dubois Passed away at Magnolia Estate in Lafayette. She was a member of First Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher and nursery worker for 50+ years. She was a member of WMU, she helped organize many of the ladies activities. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and the Jubileers.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Dubois and wife Edith of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Wendy Frye and husband Barry of Lewisville, Texas and Robert Dubois of Lafayette; two great grandchildren, Dylan and Lindsey Frye. Honorary pallbearers were all of the Deacons of First Baptist Church. Pallbearers were Gary Black, Jerry Shankles, Raymond Borland, Troy Kennedy, R. C. Martin, and Edward Rich. Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home.

Benjamin Graham Hooker, 77

Mr. Benjamin Graham Hooker, 77, of Gardner Passed away at his residence on July 14, 2005 after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter and his parents Rufus and Mary Long of Jonesboro. He is survived by his wife Betty Hooker of Gardner; one son, Benjie Hooker of Gardner; one daughter, Kim McGuire of Alexandria; one brother Gary Long of Bastrop; one sister, Betty Long Bishop of Jonesboro; grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Emery Ruff "E.R." Toms, 80

Funeral services for Emery Ruff “E.R.” Toms, Sr., 80, of Goldonna were held June 30 at Gloryway Church in Wyatt with the Rev. Ronnie Taylor , Rev. Stuart Toms, and Bro. Glenn Nash officiating. Burial followed at the Old Saline Cemetery. Mr. Toms Passed away June 27, 2005. He was retired from Texican Turbine in Winnfield. He was born July 16, 1924 in Saline to Sample Jefferson Toms and Virginia Rebecca Ruff Toms.

Mr. Toms was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Belle Carpenter Toms; brothers Tommie Toms, Gordon Toms, Millard Toms, Delmar Toms, Murry Toms, Wayne Toms, Sample Toms, and one sister, Mary Toms. He is survived by three children, daughter Cynthia Toms Joiner and husband Mickey of Shreveport; sons Randy Toms and wife, Joy of Covington, GA and Emery Ruff Toms, Jr., and wife Robin of Hodge; seven grandchildren Dr. Michelle Joiner Self, Mitch Joiner and Michael Joiner of Shreveport; Richard Toms of Gray, GA; Russell Toms of Covington, GA; Justin and Zachary Toms of Hodge; eight great-grandchildren, Hannah Self, Kathryn Self, Hunter Self, Mitchell Joiner, Makayla Joiner, Lindsay Joiner, Michael Joiner, Jr., all of Shreveport and Isabella Toms of Gray, GA; one sister, Virginia Toms Rhodes of Saline, and various nieces, nephews and cousins. Honorary pallbearers were Hilburn Toms, Larry Toms, M. H. Toms, Jr., Stephen Rhodes, ken Toms, Don Toms, Monty Dale Carpenter, Tim Carpenter, and Wayne Durbin. Pallbearers were grandsons Mitch Joiner, Richard Toms, Michael Joiner, Justin Toms, Russell Toms, and Zach Toms. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Earlene “Nini” Gatlin Alford, 79, of Jonesboro were held July 6 at Edmonds Funeral Home with the Revs. Brian Seminole and Nathan Luellen. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Mrs. Alford Passed away July 3 in Shreveport. Born July 30, 1925 in Hargis, LA, she was a retired machine operator for the bag mill.

Mrs. Alford was preceded in death by her husband, Lawson Alford; her parents, Julius and Myrtle Gatlin; two brothers, Johnnie Arlis Gatlin, and Charles Gatlin; and one nephew, Charles Edward Gatlin. She is survived by one brother, James Gatlin of Winnfield; six nieces, Linda Dick, Patricia Ford, Sherelia Winter, Patsy Sue Wagar, Mary Lyn Guidry, and Marcia Lea DeVille; two nephews, Julius David Gatlin, and Raymond Glen Alford; a host of great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and cousins. Honorary pallbearers were Kenneth Guidry, David Wagar, Chris Wagar, Kevin Wagar, Derrick Winter, Travis Guidry, and Jordan Dick. Pallbearers were W. C. Dick, Rodney Dick, Steven DeVille, Wesley Guidry, Ricky Winter, and Glen Alford. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Irris Freddy D. Austin, Jr., 58, of Oxford Al. were held June 26 at the Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jerry Lenton officiating. interment followed in the Baggs Cemetery in Long Co., Ga. Mr. Austin Passed away Wednesday June 22, 2005. The Louisiana native had lived in Alabama for 12 years. He was a Commercial Insulator.

He is survived by his wife, Donnell Wasdin Austin of Oxford, Al; three daughters, Mary Ann Ponville of Screven, Ga., Wanda Clark of Anniston, Al., and Gwen Sharpe of Surrency, Ga.; one son, Dennis Lee of Mauriceville, Texas ; four sisters, Shirley Dark and husband Paul of Bastrop, Sally Harvey of Ruston, Brenda Pardue and husband Howard of Winnfield, and Betty Davis and husband Richard of Denver, Co.; two brothers, Felix Austin of Winnfield and Homer Austin and wife Dorothy of Jonesboro.; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers included Josh Golden, James Buckley, Daryl Harris, Marcus Barfield, Stephen Austin, and Darrell Ballance. Services were under the direction of Rinehart and Sons Funeral Home in Jesup, Ga.

Mrs. Smedley Passed away July 8 in Jonesboro. Born on November 16, 1921 in Selma, Mrs. Smedley was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Sara Emily Rankin and husband Shelby of Winnfield; two sons, Paul Brown Smedley and wife J. of Lake Charles and Charles Taylor Smedley of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Charlie Fullerton, Tim Carpenter, Steve Johns, Jimmy Lee Garrett, Dustin Dambois and Kenny Kirkham.

Burial followed in the Jonesboro Cemetery. Mrs. Bond Passed away July 6 in Jonesboro. Born September 29, 1920 in Bienville, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Bond was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Bond; son, William George Bond; her parents, George Washington “Jack” and Maggie Hay Kirkham; and two sisters, Nina Stewart and Mattie Mathews.

She is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Cannady and husband Thomas of Jonesboro; one son, Harrell Bond and wife Linda of Jonesboro; daughter-in-law, Brenda Bond of Jonesboro; one sister, Cloteal Gaines of Jonesboro; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Billy Ted Walsworth, Sonny Kirkland, Jimmy Bond Golden, Ronnie Womack, H. L. Caskey, Huey Caskey, Bobby Folks, and William Mathews. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Service for Mrs. Sandra Faye Chesney, 64, of West Monroe were held at 1:00PM Saturday, July 9, 2005, at Cedar Crest Baptist Church with Dr. Greg Clark officiating. Graveside services were held at 4:00PM Saturday at Beech Springs Cemetery in Quitman, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe. Mrs. Chesney died on July 4, 2005 following an automobile accident. She was a member of Cedar Crest Baptist Church where she attended the Lenard Sunday School Class.

Mrs. Chesney was preceded in death by her father, Robert Whitten, Sr. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Chesney of West Monroe, LA; four children, Denise Foy and husband James “Bo” of Gilbert, LA; Brenda Rowan and Micheal Quinton both of Vicksburg, MS; and Amanda Chesney of West Monroe, LA; seven grandchildren; mother, Melba Whitten of Quitman, LA; sister, Bobbie Deese of Dodson, LA; and brother, Robert Whitten, Jr. of Hodge, LA. Pallbearers were T. C. Chesney, Glen Chesney, Bo Foy, Roger Ellington, DeWaine Lenard, and Kevin Ellington. Visitation was from 5:00PM until 9:00PM Friday at Mulhearn Funeral Home and 12Noon until service time Saturday at Cedar Crest Baptist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Nancy Stevenson and husband Buddy of Quitman, Sheila Ingram of Homer and Kaye Fenn and husband Carl of Cumming, GA; three sons, Jimmy Ingram and wife Shirley of Quitman, Billy Ingram and wife JoAnn of Quitman, and Phil Ingram and wife Sarah of Quitman; one sister Martial Miles and husband Rev. C. D. of Homer; twenty six grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Tad Guillory, Heath Fenn, Casey Fenn, Shane Ingram, James Stevenson, Jarod Stevenson, Jimmy Ingram and Jeremy Ingram. Services were held under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.
