Esther P. Whitten, 83
A graveside service for Mrs. Esther P. Whitten, 83, of Ruston was held July 10 at 3:00 p.m. at the Antioch Presbyterian Cemetery in Quitman with Bishop Kyle Anderson officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Whitten Passed away at her home on July 9, 2005 after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 30, 1921 in Jonesboro to James Brinkley Tyler and Rosa Lea Tyler. She with her former husband, Bert Whitten, owned Whitten’s Grocery Store in Ruston for many years.

Mrs. Whitten is survived by her children Donna Whitten Clark of Ruston, Madeline Whitten of Ruston, Dennis Whitten and wife Jan of Arcadia and Craig Whitten of Ruston; five grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Diffy
Wilfred Earl Diffy, 54
Mr. Wilfred Earl Diffy Passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Monroe following a brief illness. Mr. Diffy was born in Monroe August 15, 1950 to Gordie W. and Ruth Fuller Diffy. Funeral services were held Monday, July 18, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Shelton Coleman and Rev. Ernest Norman officiating. Burial was in Eros Cemetery under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Visitation was held at the funeral home Sunday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

Mr. Diffy is survived by his daughter Tammy Johnson and husband Carlos of Simsboro; parents Gordie W. and Ruth Diffy of Eros; grandchildren, Lacie Johnson and C. J. Johnson of Simsboro; sister-in-law, Betty Diffy of Eros; three nephews, Paul Diffy, Eric Diffy, and Randy Diffy; niece Amy Diffy; a host of other relatives and friends. Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Jones and Gerald Lindsey. Pallbearers were Little Joe Murphy, Herman Lenard, Mike Wilson, Bobby Greer, Montey Russell, Ronnie Pylant, and Eddie Wayne McCurdy. Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Fancher
J.C. Fancher, 88
A memorial service for J. C. Fancher, 88, of Jonesboro was held July 13 at Chatham United Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Andy Wilson officiating. Mr. Fancher Passed away July 11 in Jonesboro. Born December 8, 1916, in Center, Texas , Mr. Fancher was a retired logger. He also was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He is survived by two daughters, Jody Young and husband Jay of Chatham and Dorothy Neal and husband Frank of Leesville; two sons, Jerry Fancher and wife Eddie of Orange, Texas and Pat Fancher and wife Margaret of Marshall, Texas ; one sister Maggie Lee Addison and husband Chester of Leesville; one brother, Alvin Fancher of Burkeville, Texas ; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Services were held under the directions of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Roberts
Bobby Gene Roberts, 72
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby Gene Roberts, 72, of Monroe were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 10 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Don Roberts and Rev. T. W. Anderson officiating. Burial was at the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Roberts Passed away July 8 at St. Francis Medical Center. He retired from Ouachita Parish School Board as a maintenance supervisor. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed his wood working and working with stained glass.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife Barbara Roberts, daughter Karan Price and husband Jerry, two grandchildren: Devin and Whitney Winkler all of Monroe; four sisters: Dorothy Head and Joyce Curry of West Monroe; Betty Jeffress of Eros, and Sandra Williams of Pineville; two brothers: Rev. Don Roberts of Rayville and Rev. Oda Wayne Roberts of West Monroe. Pallbearers were Devin Winkler, David Garner, A. L. Garner, Oscar Head, Johnnie Sibley, and Ed McGuire.

Billie Katherine Dark, 77

Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Katherine Dick Dark, 77, of Winnfield were held Feb. 12 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield with Rev. Bill Moore, Rev. Craig James, and Rev. Lindsey Burns officiating. Burial followed in the Harmony Grove Cemetery in Dodson. Mrs. Dark Passed away Feb. 9 at the Winn Parish Medical Center. She was retired from the Winn Parish School System and Billing Supervisor of the Gaars Mill/ Hudson Water System.

Mrs. Dark was preceded in death by her husband, Zachary Taylor “ZT” Dark; her parents, William Luther Dick, Sr. and Leatha Ruth Davis Dick; sister, Bronis Havarda; brothers, Clifford Dick and William Luther Dick, Jr. She is survived by daughters, Judy Jordan and her husband Bobby of Winnfield, Linda Nugent and her husband Leon of Shongaloo, and Kathy Watson and her husband Tommy of Dodson; grandchildren, Donna Kirkland, Mike Spangler, Brandi Watson, Leatha Watson, Curtis Nugent and Jason Nugent; great-grandchildren, Chad Cockerham, Dustin Spangler, Lauren Kirkland, Will Kirkland, and Hunter Spangler; sisters, Louise Wilson of Mt. Union, Pa. and Patsy James of Verda; brothers, Carl Dick of Atlanta, Jerry Dick of Birmingham, Ala., Charles Dick of Winnfield, and Harold Dick of Conway, Ark. Pallbearers were Adrian James, David James, Stanley James, Ty James, Alan Dick, Roger Dark, William Edward Dark, and Tony Dick. Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

Ozie Walsworth Folse, 95

Graveside services for Ozie Walsworth Folse, 95, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 9 in the Jonesboro Cemetery with Father Bob Leonhardt officiating. Mrs. Folse Passed away Feb. 6 at Lincoln General Hospital. Born Aug. 28, 1909, she was a homemaker. She is survived by son, Michael G. Folse of La Veta, Colo.; sisters, Marie Bolls and Idora Parker both of Jonesboro; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Samuel David Lemmons, 55

Funeral services for Samuel David Lemmons, 55, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 5 at the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Jinks and Rev. Buddy Ellington officiating. Burial followed in the Zion Rest Cemetery. Mr. Lemmons Passed away Feb. 2 at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport. He was a member of Summer Grove Baptist Church of Shreveport. He was also a member of Eastern Star Lodge #151 F & AM of Winnfield. He was the son of the late Buster Lemmons and Mae Coleman Lemmons.

Mr. Lemmons was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Lemmons. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Hall Lemmons of Jonesboro; daughters, Samantha Webb of Dodson and Abby Rozelle of Winnfield; stepdaughter, Dana Shoemaker of Quitman; sisters, Shirley Randle of Houma, Delores Gillespie of Shreveport, and Karen White of Winnfield; grandchildren, Drew Webb and Jolie Rozelle; and step-grandchild, Katelyn Shoemaker.Services were under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Edrie Aline Hay Murphy, 89

Funeral services for Edrie Aline Hay Murphy, 89, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 10 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Wilson and Rev. Joey Bignar officiating. Burial followed in the Old Sparta Cemetery in Bienville. Mrs. Murphy Passed away Feb. 7 at Lincoln General Hospital. Born November 29, 1915, she was a homemaker.

Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her husband, Durwood G. Murphy; parents, John and Corrie Hay; and three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Nelda Smith and husband Jimmie W. Smith of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Melinda Smith of Jamestown, Melanie Jordan and husband Joey of Jamestown, Tim Smith and wife Gina of Jonesboro, Joy Wilkerson of Jonesboro, and Wayne Anderson and wife Shelly of Jonesboro; great-grandchildren, William Williamson of West Monroe, Melissa Williamson of Shreveport, Amanda Johnson and husband Jeffrey of Saline, Joey Jordan, Jr. and wife Beth of Jamestown, EmmaLee Tingle and husband Heath of Ashland, Logan Wilkerson of Jonesboro, and Kyle Wilkerson of Jonesboro; great-great grandchildren, Parker and Eli Johnson and Gage Jordan; sisters, Randa E. Price and husband Jerry of Jamestown and Sue Garris and husband I.S. of Ruston; brother, Hugh E. Hay and wife Janette of Hot Springs, Ark.; sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Hay of Jonesboro, Nellie Upshaw of Jamestown, and Ruth Murphy of Jamestown; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Theron Dyson "Fuzzy" Ross, 47

Funeral services for Theron Dyson “Fuzzy” Ross, 47, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 15 at the Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Holton and Rev. Lamar Anderson officiating. Burial followed in the Garden of Memories. Born, May 17, 1957, he was employed as a dozer operator. Mr. Ross was preceded in death by one son, Paul Timothy Hattaway; sister, Alfreda Gatlin; brother, James Wesley Ross; and his parents, Fred and Zalia Ross.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Ross of Jonesboro; daughters, Crystal Ann Ross of Choudrant and Sarah Alece Ross of Jonesboro; son, Jonathan Dean Ross of Hodge; sisters, Sue Folden and husband Glen of Winnfield, Patricia Ponder of Jonesboro, Laveda Richardson and husband Tom of Homer, and Sharon Bell and husband Lonnie of Quitman; brothers-in-law, Charles Johnson and wife Lori of Hodge and Lamar Anderson and wife Tammy of Dodson; sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson of Hodge and Kim Simms and husband Austin of Delhi; granddaughter, Jewel Elizabeth Ross and two special grandchildren, Dylan and Harley Tolar. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Charlie Doyle Bearden, 67

Funeral services for Charlie Doyle Bearden, 75, of Winnfield were held Feb. 20 at Hodge United Methodist with Rev. James Simons officiating. Burial followed in the Hodge Cemetery. Mr. Bearden Passed away Feb. 17 at Winn Parish Medical Center. Born Sept. 28, 1929 in Dodson, he was tree surgeon.

He is survived by his daughters, Donna S. Gonzalez and husband John of Comfort, Texas and Rhonda G. Bearden of Joyce; sons, Steven D. Bearden, Sr. and wife Paige of Appleton City, Mo., Kenneth W. Bearden and wife Donna of Jefferson City, Tenn., and Jerry G. Bearden of Rogersville, Tenn.; sister, Ruby McManus of Monroe; brother, Issac Bearden of Dry Prong; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Honorary pallbearer was Buddy Bearden. Pallbearers were Robert Bearden, Marcus Bearden, Steven Bearden, Sr., Steven Bearden, Jr., Josh Bearden, and Don Lester. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Vernon Mayo Brixey, 87

Funeral services for Vernon Mayo Brixey, 87, of Jonesboro were held Feb. 22 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gene Cumpton officiating. Burial followed in the Gayla Traina Cemetery. Mr. Brixey died Feb. 19 at Lincoln General Hospital. Born Nov. 9, 1917 in Rosecreek, Ark., he was a retired commercial fisherman. He was formerly of Pine Bluff, Ark. and a member of the West Pine Bluff Church of God in Pine Bluff.

Mr. Brixey was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Johanna Brixey; daughter, Darlene Gunter; son, Jimmy Brixey; and four brothers and four sisters.He is survived by his wife, Pauline Smith Brixey of Jonesboro; daughter, Sharon Brixey Hasley and husband John R. of Jonesboro; sons, H.T. Brixey and wife Rebeca of Houston, Texas and Marvin D. Brixey and wife Debbie of Randlett, Okla.; twelve grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Steve Bittle, Duane Price, Toby Caskey, Darron Whitman, Jimmy Fisher, and Sonny Harper. Services were under the direction of Edmonds Funeral Home.

Johnson
Patricia McNeill Johnson , 67

Graveside services for Patricia McNeill Johnson were held at 2:30 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2005 with Reverend Stuart Toms officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Pineville, LA.Mrs. Johnson , 67, of Deville died Tuesday, February 15, 2005 in Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital. She was a life long florist in Jonesville and Natchitoches.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 50 years, Harold E. Johnson of Deville; daughters, Millie Ann Burnum of Quitman and Melani Alwell of Deville; son, Patrick Johnson of Jonesville; two brothers, two sisters, and seven grandchildren.Friends called Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Hixson Brothers, Pineville from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Friday, February 18, 2005 from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Pallbearers will be C. B. Alwell, Joel Burnum, Jr., Glenn Davis, Jay Woods , Ryan Richard and Joe Burnum.
