Clarence P. Thibodeaux

Services for Clarence “Gig” P. Thibodeaux, 78, will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at David Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Conley Bertrand officiating. interment will be in the Beau Pre Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside services conducted by VFW Post 1982.

Visitation will be from 4:30-9 p.m. today at the Funeral home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A native of Florence and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Thibodeaux died at 10 p.m. Wednesday April 15, 1998, at his residence.

He is survived by one stepson, David Bienemann of Lafayette; three stepdaughters, Carol B. Megahan of San Antoino, Patsie B. Opitz of Abbeville and Bonnie B. Tiller of Metairie; one brother, Earl “Butch” Thibodeaux of Mississippi; and four grandchildren.

Mr. Thibodeaux was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Thibodeaux and Anna Rollins Thibodeaux; and one brother, Harris “Boudreaux” Thibodeaux.

The David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Elton P. Boutte

Services for Elton Paul Boutte, 53, will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at St. Peters Catholic Church with the Rev. Bill Rogalla officiating. interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be at Evangeline Funeral Home until the time of services.

A native of St. Martin Parish and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Boutte died at 7:17 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 1998, at a local hospital.

He was employed with Bayou Management in New Iberia and a member of St. Peters Catholic Church.

Mr. Boutte is survived by two sons, Kevin Boutte and Bryan Boutte, both of New Iberia; one daughter, Rachel Lynn Boutte of New Iberia; three brothers, Noah Boutte Jr., and Allen Boutte, both of New Iberia, and Joseph Boutte of Broussard; three sisters, Mrs. Julien (Rose) Porier of Erath, Mrs. Andrew (Elaine) Gerard and Lucy Creighton both of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Dozier Boutte; his parents, Noah Boutte and Odile Picard Boutte; and one sister, Lena Gerard.

Pallbearers will be Allen Boutte, Andrew Gerard, Chad Boutte, Joseph Boutte, Julien Porier and Timothy Creighton.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Badeaux, Raymond Creighton and Andrew Gerard Jr.

The Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Martha Borel

Services for Mrs. Walter Borel, 86, the former Martha Crochet, will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Leblanc officiating. interment will be in the St. Peters Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4:30-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen from 8 a.m. until time of services Wednesday.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Borel died at 11:55 a.m. Monday, April 20, 1998, at Dauterive Hospital.

She was the owner/operator of Borel’s Grocery for 48 years.

Mrs. Borel is survived by one son, Louis Armond of Metairie; one daughter, Winola B. Prioux of New Iberia; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Borel; her father, Paul Crochet; her mother, Marie Presella Crochet; four brothers, Edward Crochet, Ernest Crochet, George Crochet and Ovide Crochet; and two sisters, Emily Armond and Odette Veron.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Prioux Jr., grandson; Wade Borel, nephew; Lennet Crochet, godchild; Christopher Prioux, great-grandson; Tommy Sanders, family friend, Russell Snoddy, family friend and Marcus Dartez, family friend.

Honorary pallbearers will be Claude Borel and Fulton Broussard.

The David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence D. Evans

Services for Clarence Dean Evans, 61, will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church with the Rev. Michael Guidry officiating. interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1982.

Visitation will be from 2:30-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen from 8 a.m. until time of services Wednesday.

A native of Cave Springs, Ark., and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Evans died at 12:50 p.m. Monday, April 20, 1998, at his residence.

Mr. Evans was a wireline operator at Western Atlas & McCullough for 25 years. He also was a member of Woodmen of the World Camp 34 and served in the U.S. Army. He was a beloved husband, grandfather and friend and will be sadly missed but will always be remembered for his large capacity to love.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Lou Johnson Evans of New Iberia; two sons, Squeaky Dean Davidson and Ricky Paul Evans, both of New Iberia; four daughters, Cindia Dupuis, Nicole Norris and Tammy Palmisano, all of New Iberia and Debra Enzamann of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Andrew Evans of Lowell, Ark.; one sister, Willine Evans of Rogers, Ark.; five grandsons, Cody Ray Dupuis, Tyler Daniel Dupuis, Dakuiry Seth Palmisano and James Dean Palmisano, all of New Iberia; and four granddaughters, Brittany Dupuis, Jaci Chae Evans and Cherime Nicole Palmisano, all of New Iberia, and Gabrielle Enzamann of San Jose.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his father, Willie Evans; his mother, Nannie Belle Brown Evans; one son, Carroll David Evans; one brother, Billy Gene Evans; three sisters, Marjorie Birdge, Catherine Ford and Lorraine George; and one half-brother, Glenn Mabry.

Pallbearers will be Richard Dean David, Squeaky Davidson, Karl Enzamann, David Lee Hilton, Alfred Johnson and Tom Kelly.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glaze Childs, Walter Derouen, Cody Dupuis, Dakuiry Seth Palmisano, Andrew Evans and James Dean Palmisano.

The David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Ercell C. Charles

ST. MARTINVILLE – Services for Ercell Cleo Charles, 74, will begin at 3 p.m. today at Mallalieu Methodist Church with Rev. Andrew Goff officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be at the church until the time of services.

A native of St. Martinville and resident of New Iberia for 46 years, Mr. Charles died at 5:50 a.m. Saturday, April 18, 1998, at Dauterive Hospital following a lengthy illness.

He was a member of the Mallalieu Methodist Church.

Mr. Charles is survived by his wife, Leona Charles of New Iberia; two sons, Ercell B. Charles of Atlanta, Ga., and Darryl C. Charles of St. Martinville; six daughters, Sandra C. Archangel of Grand Marais, Leslie C. Strickney, Cathy Charles, Tamara Daye and Karen Charles, all of New Iberia, and Roxane Walker of Lafayette; one brother, Vernon Charles of Mamou; one sister, Theta Compton of New Iberia; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Murphy Charles; his mother, Violetta Drake; and one brother, Luther Charles.

Pallbearers will be Ercell B. Charles, Darryl Charles, Gregory Daye, Stephen Archangel, Michael Polk and Rudy Charles.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bishop Jeffery Archangel, Rev. Felton Raymond, Vernon Charles, Nolan “Cabee” Charles, Emmit Charles, Willie Solomon, Erroll Solomon and Peter Johnson .

Journet and Bolden Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Lucien J. Cutrera

LOREAUVILLE – Services for Lucien J. Cutrera, 79, will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Thevis officiating. interment will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Loreauville.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Monday until time of services, with an 11 a.m. rosary at David Funeral Home of Loreauville.

A native of Patterson and a resident of Loreauville, Cutrera died at 5 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 1998, at Dauterive Hospital in New Iberia.

He was a retired plumber and pipe fitter for James F. O’Neal, Inc. and a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy. Cutrera was a member of Pipe Fitters’ Local No. 60, a member of Blue Army and was active in local church activities.

He is survived by his wife, Florine Eldridge Cutrera of Loreauville; two daughters, Cathy M. Cutrera of Mandeville and Gayle C. Romero of New Iberia; a son, Ronald L. Cutrera of New Iberia; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Felecie) Miller of New Iberia; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Josephine Cognato Cutrera, and two sisters, Nettie Broussard and Antonia "Lee" Delcambre.

The David Funeral Home of Loreauville is in charge of arrangements.

Francis J. Guidry

BREAUX BRIDGE – Services for Francis Joseph Guidry, 74, will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the St. Bernard Catholic Church. interment will be in the St. Bernard Mausoleum No. 1 in Breaux Bridge.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. rosary at the Pellerin Funeral Home in Breaux Bridge, which will reopen at 7 a.m. Monday until time of services.

A resident of Breaux Bridge, Guidry died at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 1998, at Lafayette General Medical Center.

He was a graduate of SLI (USL) and taught in St. Landry Parish for three years and the seventh and eighth grades at Breaux Bridge High School for nine years. He taught adult education and was active in 4-H Club work. He was awarded the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce-Times Picayune Louisiana Agriculture Extension Service Award for outstanding 4-H Club leadership in 1960, the 4-H Award of Silver Clover in recognition for five consecutive years of 4-H Club leadership by the Cooperative Extension Service, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and LSU in 1964.

He taught and coordinated religion instruction for the seventh and eighth grades at Breaux Bridge High School under the directorship of the assistant pastors of St. Bernard Catholic Church for seven years. He also was the school’s moving picture photographer of competitive sports activities.

Guidry earned a Master of Education degree in administration and supervision. He was awarded the recognition of having earned 30 post-graduate credit hours by the Louisiana Department of Education. He accumulated additional post-graduate credits applicable toward an advanced post-graduate degree. He served as St. Martin Parish elementary school supervisor of instruction for 15 years. He retired prematurely in 1980 due to health problems.

He was most active in civic-related functions, having served as commander of the American Legion Post 133, vice commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, president of the Breaux Bridge Lions Club, president of the Woodmen of the World Camp 452 for two terms, president of the Holy Name Society and served as an usher in the St. Bernard Catholic Church for a number of years. He served as an officer in the Breaux Bridge Volunteer Fire Company and parish chairman of the American Red Cross for two years.

He was a co-chairman of the 1959 Breaux Bridge Centennial Parade and moving picture photographer of centennial activities to be placed in a 100-year time capsule to be recovered in the year 2059. He was co-chairman of the 1960 Crawfish Festival Parade, a member of the St. Martin Association of Retired Teachers, the American Association of Retired Persons, the American Legion Post 133, Woodmen of the World Camp 452, the USL Alumni Association and Sam Houston State Teachers College Alumni.

Guidry was a World War II veteran, having served in Europe in battles and campaigns in Brittany and Normandy, the Rhineland and Central Europe. He earned three battle stars, the European Theater of Operations Medal, the E.A.M.E.T.O. Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. He served as an interpreter during the advancement through France. He also served as an honor guard for General George S. Patton’s interment in the Third Army Cemetery in Luxembourg.

He was called for active duty in the Korean War, serving in part as cadre instructor and assigned to special classified duties until relieved from active duty.

He is survived by two daughters, Martha Ann Guidry Bryant and Mary Frances Guidry, both of Breaux Bridge; two grandsons, Matthew Francis Bryant and Kenneth James Breaux III, both of Breaux Bridge; two sisters, Edia Frederick of Parks and Anna Mae Fremin of Jeanerette, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma P. Guidry; his parents, Julia and Rene’ Guidry, and five brothers, Cyrus, Lester, Sylan, Rene’ and Wade Guidry.

The Pellerin Funeral Home of Breaux Bridge is in charge of arrangements.
