CHALMETTE - Services for Ashley Raphael, 10 months, will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Gardens.

Ashley is survived by her parents, John and Christine Betat Raphael of Covington; one sister, Melanie Raphael; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris Raphael of New Iberia; and her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Betat of Minneapolis.

Memorial contributions may be made to SKIP (Sick Kids Need Involved People), 118 Ned Ave., Slidell, La. 70460.

Belva Conley

FREETOWN - Services for Belva Conley, 80, the former Belva Simon, will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Olive Baptist Church No. 1 with the Rev. Henry Maze officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

A resident of New Iberia for many years, Mrs. Conley died at 4 a.m. Sunday, March 16, 1998, at Azalea Villa Nursing Home following a brief illness.

She is survived by one son, James Conley Sr. of Franklin; one brother, Clarence Simon of New Orleans; 23 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Conley was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Simon and Reginnie L. Simon; and three children.

Pallbearers will be members of the immediate family.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the immediate family.

The Fletcher Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Sedonia B. Bonin

Services for Sedonia B. Bonin, 94, will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at David Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Guidry officiating. interment will be in the St. Peters Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1:30-10 p.m. today with a 7:30 p.m. rosary at the funeral home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

A native of Iberia Parish and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Bonin died at 8:50 a.m. Monday, March 16, 1998, at Azalea Villa Nursing Home.

She is survived by one son, Ray Allen Bonin of Broussard; two sisters, Noamie Koenig of Houston and Marie Robicheaux of New Iberia; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Bonin was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Bonin; her parents, Denis and Octavie Bonin Bonin; two sons, E.G. Bonin and Ernest D. Bonin; one daughter, Evelyn B. Bourque; one brother, Dudley Bonin; three sisters, Noalie Curtis, Zulma Dugas and Lanora Verret; and one grandson, Robert Bourque.

Pallbearers will be Darryl Bonin, Carl Bonin, Dwayne Bonin, Kevin Bonin, Michael Bonin and Ernest Bonin Jr.

The David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Goldman L. Viator Sr.

ABBEVILLE - Services for Goldman Leopold Viator Sr., 71, will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Theresa Catholic Church. interment will be in the Landry Cemetery in Henry.

Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m.-8 p.m. today with a 7 p.m rosary at David and Hebert Funeral Home,which will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

A native and resident of Abbeville, Mr. Viator died at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his residence.

The David and Hebert Funeral Home of Abbeville is in charge of arrangements.

Wilmer J. Richard Sr.

ERATH - Services for Wilmer J. Richard Sr., 76, will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2:30-10 p.m. today at David and Broussard Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

A native and resident of Erath, Mr. Richard died at 3:20 a.m. today, March 17, 1998, at Abbeville General Hospital.

The David and Broussard Funeral Home Erath is in charge of arrangements.

Nora Bourgeois

Services for Mrs. Frank Bourgeois Sr., 97, the former Nora Bergeron, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Guidry officiating.interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3:30-9 p.m. today with a 6:30 p.m. rosary at David and Jacquemoud Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A native of St. Mary Parish and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Bourgeois died at 9:22 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 1998, at Dauterive Hospital.

She was a member of the St. Anne Altar Society at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, a past member of the Golden Age Club and worked as a volunteer at the Social Service Office.

Mrs. Bourgeois is survived by one son, Frank Bourgeois Jr. of New Iberia; one daughter, Nora Lee Bourgeois Martin of New Iberia; three grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bourgeois Sr.; her parents, Alicide and Celeste Trimble Bergeron; two brothers, Raymond Bergeron and Woodland Bergeron; and six sisters, Grace Bergeron, Mae Bergeron, Venus Comeaux, Leona Guidry, Alice Martinez and Elsie Myers.

The David and Jacquemoud Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

John R. Murphy III

Services for John Ridgewaye "Hop" Murphy III, 73, will begin at 2 p.m Tuesday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with the Rev. Mike Guidry officiating. interment will be in the Memorial Park Mausoleum with Military Graveside Services conducted by VFW Post 1982 Honor Guard of New Iberia.

Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. today with a 7:15 p.m rosary at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Murphy died at 2:20 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 1998, at his residence.

He was a veteran of the Marine Corps having served during World War II, he received the Purple Heart for being injured in Iwa Jima. He was employed by Exxon for 42 years as a Maintenance Supervisor.

Mr. Murphy is survived by his wife, Ada Comeaux Murphy of New Iberia; six sons, James Patrick Murphy of Pittsburgh, John Jude Murphy, Eugene Anthony Veazey, Vincent Paul Veazey, Kenneth James Veazey and Keith Edward Veazey, all of New Iberia; five daughters, Mrs. Cliff (Pat) Stein of LaPlace, Mrs. Richard (Jean) Breaux and Mrs. Mike (Mary) Landry, both of New Iberia, Mrs. Danny (Connie) Bodin of Loreauville and Catherine Veazey of Lake Charles; 29 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. Murphy Jr. and Lucy Derouen Pustka; and his first wife, Virgie Judice Murphy.

Pallbearers will be John Jude Murphy, Daniel J. Bodin Jr., Cliff Stein, Mike Landry, Mark Stein, Keith Veazey and CPL Ron Anthony Breaux.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the family.

The Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Cledia L. Haydel

JEANERETTE – Services for Mrs. Espera “Pomp” Haydel, 83, the former Cledia LeGlue, will begin at 3 p.m. Monday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, with the Rev. Charles Langlois officiating. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. rosary at the David & Landry Funeral Home, which will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday until 2:45 p.m.

A native of White Castle and resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Haydel died at 11:25 p.m. Friday, March 13, 1998, at the Maison Teche Nursing Home in Jeanerette.

She was a homemaker. Mrs. Haydel was a member of the Catholic Daughters, the Jeanerette Home Demonstration Club, the Jeanerette Fifty Plus Club, the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Rosary Group and the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church Altar Society.

Mrs. Haydel is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Danny (Susan) Davis of Broussard and Dorothy Landry of Jeanerette; two brothers, Charles LeGlue of Port Allen and Gerald LeGlue of Alexandria; five grandchildren, Donna Landry Blanchard, Neil A. Davis and Merlin Landry Jr., all of Jeanerette, Margaret Landry Curtis of New Iberia and Andrea E. Davis of Broussard; one sister, Mrs. Bernard (Elva Ruth) Thibodeaux of Port Allen; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Haydel was preceded in death by her husband, Espera “Pomp” Haydel; her parents, Christophe and Julia Gaspard LeGlue; three brothers, Clement LeGlue, Ervin LeGlue and Flaward LeGlue; and one grandchild, David “Bush” Landry.

Pallbearers will be family members.

The David & Landry Funeral Home of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie Preston

JEANERETTE – Services for Elsie Preston, 85, the former Elsie Smith, will begin at 8 p.m. Monday at St. Mark Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur Lee Alexander officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Monday at the Alex Lovett Funeral Home Chapel and from 5-10 p.m. Monday at the church, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

A native of Youngsville and resident of Jeanerette for many years, Mrs. Preston died Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Iberia Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

She was a lifelong member of St. Mark Baptist Church and served in many organizations during her active years.

Mrs. Preston is survived by her companion, Elton Green Sr. of Jeanerette; two step-sons, Elton Green Jr. of Jeanerette and Milton Green Sr. of New Iberia, five step-daughters, Judy Kelley of New Iberia, Ella Mae McNeal, Shirley S. Williams, Linda G. Tate and Nursey G. Colar, all of Jeanerette; four grandchildren and one-great grandchild.

Mrs. Preston was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Preston; her mother, Mary Provost; her father, Felix Smith and one brother, Talton Smith.

Active pallbearers will be William L. Colar Jr., Kazanski D. Colar, James L. Green, Earl J. Williams, Junius L. Roman and Arthur R. Joseph.

Honorary pallbearers will be Conrell Preston, Elton Green, Milton Green, Colbert Williams, David C. Williams and Albert Lively.

The Alex Lovett Funeral Services Inc. of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.
