Leo G. Spence

BUNKIE – Services for Leo G. Spence, 87, will begin at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hixson Brothers Chapel with the Rev. Joe Cruse officiating. Entombment will be in the Gates of Heaven Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A native of Bunkie, Mr. Spence died Friday, March 13, 1998, in New Iberia.

Mr. Spence was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bunkie and the Bunkie Masonic Lodge No. 326 F & AM. He held the Avoyelles Parish pole vault record for 40 years and the 100 yard dash record for 30 years. Mr. Spence coached the St. Anthony track team and boxing team in Bunkie. He was retired from the Exxon Corp. after 35 years of service.

Mr. Spence is survived by his wife, Annie Mae Spence of New Iberia; one son, Dale Spence of Schertz, Texas ; one daughter, Linda Mouille of New Iberia; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Bunkie is in charge of arrangements.

Regina W. Hills

Services for Regina Williams Hills, 36, the former Regina Williams, will begin at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at Believers Family Worship Center with the Rev. Jeffery Archangel officiating. interment will be in the St. James Cemetery in Jeanerette at 10 a.m. Monday.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until time of services Sunday at the church, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday.

A native and resident of Jeanerette, Mrs. Williams died Tuesday, March 10, 1998, at Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans following a brief illness.

Mrs. Williams is survived by her former husband, Carol Hills; her mother, Ora Lee Williams of Jeanerette; her father, Arnold B. Joseph of Jeanerette; three daughters Renesha Hills, Carol Rene Hills and Jalecia Hills, all of Jeanerette; five brothers, the Rev. Horace E. Williams Sr. of Beaumont, Texas , and Arnold B. Williams, Kenneth Lee Williams, Johnny Ray Williams and Michael Wayne Williams, all of Jeanerette and two sisters, Rosa Mary Borel of Lafayette and Marion Johnson of Labadieville.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Lee Williams, Michael Wayne Williams, Arnold Washington , Arnold Williams, Wilbert Frank and Sidney Richards.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Rev. Horace E. Williams Sr., Horace Williams Jr., Johnny Ray Williams, Patric Booker, Howard Lewis and Harold Lewis.

The Alex Lovett Funeral Services Inc. of Jeanerette is in charge of arrangements.

Marion Foster

Services for Marion Dudley Foster, 67, will begin at 2 p.m. today, at the David & Jacquemoud Chapel. interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Abbeville.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. today at the David & Jacquemoud Funeral Home.

A native of Vermilion Parish and resident of Kaplan, Mrs. Foster died at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Vermilion Health Care.

The David & Jacquemoud Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred L. Buxton

CHATHAM - Funeral services for Mrs. Tharon Buxton, 80, the former Mildred "Minnie" Lawrence, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Apostolic Church with the Rev. A. L. Lyle officiating. interment will be in the Chatham Cemetery.

Visitation was from 7-10 p.m. Thursday at the Calvary Pentecostal Church with an 8 p.m. memorial service, and will resume at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Greater Apostolic Church in Chatham.

A native of Womack and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Buxton died at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 1998, at Dauterive Hospital.

She is survived by two sons, Carroll Buxton of Chatham and Darrell Buxton of Luling; one daughter, Patricia Buxton Cooper of New Iberia; four grandsons, Keith Cooper of Broussard, Brannon Buxton and Chase Buxton, both of Luling, and Scotty Buxton of Chatham; five granddaughters, Karen Cooper Crowder of New Iberia, Brandi Buxton and Alisha Waldroup, both of Chatham, and Emily Buxton and Kelly Buxton, both of Luling; one great-granddaughter, Rhea Cooper of Broussard; and two daughters-in-law, Trenise Buxton of Chatham and Phyllis Buxton of Luling.

Mrs. Buxton was preceded in death by her husband, Tharon Buxton; her parents, David and Della Womack Lawrence; and one son, Rene' Buxton.

Pallbearers will be Scotty Buxton, Richard Waldroup, Pete Bailey, Brannon Buxton and Keith Cooper.

Honorary pallbearer will be Chase Buxton.

The David and Jacquemoud Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Nella Sellers

ABBEVILLE - Services for Mrs. Alphonse “Sam” Sellers, 91, the former Nella Derouen, will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church. interment will be in the St. Paul Cemetery of Abbeville.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David & Hebert Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Sunday until time of services.

A native of Jefferson Island and resident of Abbeville, Mrs. Sellers died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, March 6, 1998, at her residence.

The David & Hebert Funeral Home of Abbeville is in charge of arrangements.

Mathilde Melancon

BROUSSARD - Services for Mrs. Maurice Melancon, 93, the former Mathilde Leblanc, will begin at 3 p.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Herpin officiating. Entombment will be in the Sacred Heart Mausoleum.

Visitation was from 4:30-10 p.m. Friday with a 6:30 p.m. rosary at David and Broussard Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. today until time of services.

A native of Abbeville and resident of Parks, Mrs. Melancon died at 8 a.m. Friday, March 6, 1998 at her residence.

She was a housewife and a member of the Ladies Altar Society of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Broussard.

Mrs. Melancon is survived by three sons, Donald Melancon of Morgan City, Louis Melancon of Parks and Maurice Melancon Jr. of Houston; three daughters, Flo Melancon Delcambre of Breaux Bridge, Jeannine Melancon Hernandez of Judice and Camille Melancon of Parks; 23 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Melancon; her father, Gustave Leblanc; her mother, Victoria DePerrodil Leblanc; four brothers, Ambroise Leblanc, Ferdinand Leblanc, Gus Leblanc and Leonce Leblanc; four sisters, Quida Bonin, Nita Broussard, Inez Gardner and Lillian Leblanc and one grandson, David Jude Hollier.

Pallbearers will be Randy Melancon, Rickey Delcambre, Brian Hernandez, Wayne Hernandez, L.E. Hollier and Michael Hollier.

The David Funeral Home of Broussard is in charge of arrangements.

Doles Peltier

Services for Doles "Pete" Peltier, 79, will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven LeBlanc officiating. Entombment will be in the Holy Family Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 6-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday.

A native of St. Martin Parish and resident of New Iberia, Mr. Peltier died at 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 1998, at his residence.

He was a retired oilfield mechanic for Shell Oil Co. and a World War II Air Force veteran.

Mr. Peltier is survived by his wife, Gloria Savoy Peltier of New Iberia; two daughters, Renee P. Norris and her husband, Johnny Norris and Trudy P. Romero, all of New Iberia; one brother, Waldren Peltier of St. Martinville; two sisters, Alberta Breaux of Fayetteville, Tenn., and Nellie Savikko of Douglas, Ark.; two grandsons, Shaun P. Norris of Baton Rouge, and Mike E. Romero and his wife Debbie of Carencro; two granddaughters, Stacey R. Marceaux of New Iberia, and Jodie A. Norris of Baton Rouge; four great-grandchildren, Bridget Borel, Brook Borel and Casey Tilley, of Carencro, and Brittni Marceaux of New Iberia; and one son-in-law, Lloyd M. Romero of New Iberia.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walls Peltier and Catherine Boudreaux Peltier; and two sisters, Mildred Blanchard and Helen Lavergne.

Pallbearers will be Lloyd Romero, Francis Blanchard, Harold Halbert, Johnny Norris, Shaun Norris and Mike Romero.

Honorary pallbearers will be Floyd Blanchard, Kenneth Blanchard and Karl Peltier.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Acadiana.

The David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Anderson

Services for Mrs. James L. Anderson Sr., 91, the former Dorothy Hall, will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Episcopal Church of the Epiphany with the Rev. Michael K. Adams officiating. interment will be in the Rosehill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-9 p.m. today at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday until the time of services.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Anderson died at 6:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, 1998, in a local hospital.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, an avid player and a member of the Duplicate Bridge Club. Mrs. Anderson was the first Miss Louisiana of 1926.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by four sons, Harry H. Anderson Sr. of Avery Island, James L. Anderson of New Iberia , Alonzo A. Anderson of Owensboro, Ky. and Robert E. Anderson of Georgetown, Ky.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Anderson Sr.; her parents, Harry T. and Clara Fenley Hall; one sister, Harriet Hall Hass; and one grandson, Harry Hall Anderson Jr.

Pallbearers will be Harry H. Anderson Sr., James L. Anderson Jr., Alonzo A. Anderson, Robert E. Anderson, James L. Anderson III and Eric H. Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Robert E. Anderson Jr. and Billy Gesser.

The Evangeline Funeral Home Inc. of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.
