Mary T. Fontenot

JENNINGS - Services for "Mary" Theolisia Benoit Fontenot, 84, will begin at 2 p.m. today at Migues Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Aubrey Guilbeau and Sidney Fontenot officiating.

interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

A native of Edgerly, former resident of Lake Charles and resident of Jennings, Mrs. Fontenot died at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, March 1, 1998, in the Jennings American Legion Hospital.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mrs. Fontenot is survived by two daughters, Janette Fontenot Miller of Sulphur and Irene Simar Boutte of New Iberia; one brother, Roland Benoit of Maringouin; three sisters, Lillian Green, Lillie Mae Burgess and Leona Ardoin, all of Jennings; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Zulma Benoit; one sister, Alice Trahan and one brother, Alvin Benoit.

Pallbearers will be Shane Boutte, Michael Gott, Tony Gott, Luther Green Rodney Burgess and Tim Reed.

The Miguez Funeral Home of Jennings is in charge of arrangements.

Elvonne L. Trahan

RYNELLA – Services for Mrs. Antoine Trahan, 79, the former Elvonne LeBlanc , will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Marcellus Catholic Church with the Rev. Conley Bertrand officiating. Entombment will be in the church mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at Evangeline Funeral Home, which will reopen Saturday at 10 a.m. until the time of services.

A native of Iberia Parish and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Trahan died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at a New Iberia nursing home.

She was a member of St. Marcellus Catholic Church, St. Anne’s Altar Society and the Catholic Daughters.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Jeanette T.) Landry of Erath and Betty Trahan of New Iberia; three brothers, Allen LeBlanc and James Paul LeBlanc , both of New Iberia, and Noddy Paul LeBlanc of Beaumont; four grandchildren, Katherine H. Choate, Johnny Hollier, Janet Viator, all of Erath and Mark Derek Hollier of Naples, Fla.; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Mrs. Trahan was preceded in death by her husband, Antoine Trahan; her parents, Edon and Edith Labit LeBlanc ; one son, Merlin John Trahan; one brother, Odea LeBlanc ; and one sister, Clara Jane LeBlanc .

Pallbearers will be Johnny Hollier, John Derek Hollier, Mark Derek Hollier, Keith Choate, Craig Viator and Bobby Earl Herbart.

The Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Fannie B. Darcey

Services for Mrs. Alfred J. Darcey Sr., 71, the former Fannie Bodin, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church with the Revs. Albert Boumans, Charles Thevis and Herman Barsen officiating. interment will be in the Holy Family Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3-10 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. rosary at David Funeral Home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Darcey died at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at her residence.

She was a retired school teacher with 30 years of service, having taught at Weeks Island Elementary, Susan Terrell Elementary and New Iberia Senior High School. Mrs. Darcey was a member of the Louisiana Retired Teachers Association, Iberia Retired Teachers Association, the Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church and the Come Lord Jesus Program and a religion teacher at Nativity of Our Lady Catholic Church.

She is survived by her husband, Alfred J. "Slim" Darcey Sr. of New Iberia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Alfred J. Darcey Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Jeanerette and Byron L. Darcey Sr. and his wife, Cyndi, of New Iberia; one sister, Bessie B. Richard of Erath; four grandchildren, Pvt. Byron L. Darcey Jr. of Fort Hood, Texas , Aaron Darcey, Amber Darcey and Brandon Darcey, all of Jeanerette.

Mrs. Darcey was preceded in death by her parents, Bonafice and Laurence Delcambre Bodin; three brothers, Anthony "Tony" Bodin, Joseph "Pete" Bodin and Odras Bodin; and two sisters, Winnie B. Callahan and Mae B. Horn.

Pallbearers will be Byron L. Darcey Jr., Lloyd Bodin, Warren Bodin, Aaron Darcey, Brandon Darcey, Donald Darcey, Johnny Darcey and Melvin Darcey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ted Bodin, Chad Darcey, Rickey Darcey, Warren Hebert, Lionel Louviere, Dr. John Rainey and Dr. Kenneth Ritter.

The David Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Sherman C. Joseph Sr.

NEW ORLEANS - Services for Sherman Clark Joseph Sr., 75, will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Tharp-Schtheimer-Tharp Funeral Home 4127 S. Claiborne Ave., with the Rev. Bell officiating. Entombment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A native of Jeanerette and resident of New Orleans for more than 45 years, Mr. Joseph died Sunday, March 1, 1998.

He was a U.S. World War II Army veteran, having served as a staff sergeant from 1943-1946. During his years of service he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After his discharge from the Army he moved to New Orleans where he matriculated at Dillard University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social science in January 1955. He worked as a social worker for several years and later began a career as a longshoreman and steam ship clerk. He was among the first to integrate the Clerk and Checkers Union. He retired in 1986.

Mr. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Elmenia Joseph; one son, Sherman Joseph Jr. of New Orleans; three daughters, Cheryl Joseph-Oyebisi and Daine Blyden, both of New York City, and Victoria Joseph of New Orleans; three brothers, Warren L. Joseph of Jeanerette, Luther M. Joseph of Buffalo, N.Y., and Edwhelan Joseph of Franklin; three sisters, Annette J. Francis, Joy D. Joseph and Laverne J. Hill, all of Jeanerette; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Joseph and Addie Webster Joseph; four brothers, McKeller L. Joseph, Connie I. Joseph, Lionel R. Joseph and Kenneth C. Joseph; and an infant sister, Joyce B. Joseph.

Henry Hiceman Jr.

Services for Henry Hiceman Jr., 79, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday at David and Jacquemoud Funeral Home. interment will be in the St. Peters Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home, which will reopen at 8 a.m. Friday.

A resident of New Iberia, Mr. Hiceman died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, 1998, at his residence.

The David and Jacquemoud Funeral Home of New Iberia is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby J. Prince

CONROE, Texas - Graveside services for Bobby Jack Prince, 67, will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Conroe Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A native of Iowa Park, Texas , and resident of Lowell, Ark., Mr. Prince died Monday, March 2, 1998, at his residence.

He retired from Exxon after 36 years of employment, was a graduate of Conroe High School, a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Church of Christ.

Mr. Prince is survived by his wife, Wilma Dee Lowe; two daughters, Jeanie Dore' of Lowell and Jackie Rockhold of Youngstown, New York; three brothers, Charles Ray Prince and Tommy Wayne Prince, both of San Antonio, and William L. Prince of Santa Maria, Calif.; four grandchildren, Liz Fortenberry and Bobbi Dore', both of Lowell, Melanie Frederick and Robert Rockhold Jr., both of Youngstown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles A. Prince and Imogene Prince.

The Backstrom Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale, Ark., and Metcalf Funeral Home of Conroe, Texas , are in charge of arrangements.

Ira J. Bourg

BALDWIN - Services for Ira Joseph Bourg, 91, will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. Bill Melancon officiating. interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

A native and resident of Baldwin, Mr. Bourg died Monday, March 2, 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Annette Stansbury Bourg of Baldwin; three sons, Malcolm Jude Bourg of Morgan City, Gerald Joseph Bourg of Baldwin and Larry James Bourg of Franklin; one daughter, Faye Ellen Latiolais of Baldwin; two sisters, Irene B. Morris and Iona Bourg, both of Lafayette; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bourg was preceded in death by his parents, Gerson Paul Bourg and Helene Boudreaux Bourg.

Ibert's Mortuary of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.

Todd C. Cox

Memorial services for Todd Charles Cox, 14, will begin at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Harlan Gott officiating.

A native and resident of New Iberia, Todd died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in Huntsville, Ala., following a brief illness.

He was a student at New Iberia Middle School.

Todd is survived by his parents, Dwight "Butch" and Shirley Coffman Cox; four brothers, Ski Louviere, Dane Louviere, Cordell Cox and Timothy Cox; two sisters, Kaitlyn Cox and Nicolette Cox; his grandmother, Claira Compton; and his great-grandmother, Ethel Benningfield.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Louise and Houston Cox and James Coffman Sr.

Rev. Rogers Johnson Sr.

FOUR CORNERS - Services for Rev. Rogers Johnson Sr., 71, will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. John Baptist Church. interment will be in the St. James Cemetery in Jeanerette.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

A native of Four Corners, Rev. Johnson died at 11:23 p.m. Monday, March 2, 1998, at Iberia Medical Center.

He worked for Morton Salt Co.

Rev. Johnson is survived by his wife, Lillie Mae Cerf Johnson ; two sons, David Johnson and Rogers Johnson Jr., both of Four Corners; one daughter, Minister Bettye Joyce Johnson Tillman of Sorrell; three brothers, Joseph Johnson of Four Corners, Benjamin Johnson and Emile Johnson , both of Houston; two sisters, Fannie Jackson of Beaumont and Beatrice Mitchell of Houston; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The Otis Funeral Home of Franklin is in charge of arrangements.
