Loena Hendrix Melvin, 85, a former resident of Trout, La., and a resident of Morgan City, was born to the late George and Naomi Hendrix on June 21, 1919. She went to her heavenly reward Thursday, Aug. 5, 2004, in Morgan City.
Loena was a born-again Christian. She poured herself into her family and loved being a homemaker. Her special ability to write humorous letters would often be just what her family and friends needed to lift their spirits.
She was gifted in being able to bring cheer wherever she went by her special wit. Loena had a flair for cooking and loved to share recipes. She will be sadly missed by her loving family and friends.
Visitation will be observed Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel at Hargrave Funeral Home of Morgan City. Visitation will resume in Trout, La., at the Justiss United Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004. Her going home celebration will commence at 2 p.m. at the church. She will be laid to rest by her husband in the Jena Cemetery.
She is survived by her three loving sons, Jim Melvin and his wife, Sue, of Morgan City, Richard Melvin and his wife, Deborah, of Thibodaux, and Robert Melvin and his wife, Sandra, of Trout, La.; and one sister, Billy O. Walters Newell of Bedford, Texas .
She also is survived by seven grandchildren, Laura Sawtelle and her husband, Jimmy, Jean Karpan and her husband, Dan, Lee Melvin, Clay Melvin, Scott Melvin, Emily Melvin and Jana Melvin; and three great-grandchildren, Jack Sawtelle, Maria Sawtelle and Madeleine Karpan.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 50 years, Jim Melvin Sr.; her brother, Jerry Hendrix; and her grandson, John Melvin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the John Melvin Memorial Scholarship Fund, Patterson State Bank, P.O. Box 427, Patterson, La. 70392.
Hargrave is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Edna Agnes Daigle Percle, 77, a native and resident of Morgan City, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, at Life Care Hospital in Kenner. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City and a member of the St. Mary Parish AARP.
Edna loved life and lived it to the fullest. She loved playing bingo, knitting, crossword puzzles and cooking. She was a kind and gentle lady that loved people and blessed them with many acts of kindness. She was always there for her family and friends, and was a calm in the midst of the storm. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and “Granny” and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the daughter of the late Joseph Daigle and the late Blanche Aucoin Daigle.
She is survived by three daughters, Diane Broussard and her husband, Floyd Sr., Peggy LeBlanc and her husband, Harold, and Ruth Wiggins and her husband, Curtis Sr., all of Morgan City; one son, Bernie Percle Jr. and his wife, Eulah, of Patterson; three sisters, Rose Mae Romero, Margie Scully and her husband, Leonard “Yan,” and Irene Scully and her husband, Elwood Sr., all of Morgan City; one brother, Edward “EJ” Daigle of Bayou Vista; five grandchildren, Floyd Broussard Jr., Darlene Brennan, Rhonda Patterson, Curtis Wiggins Jr. and Brian Wiggins; and four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Broussard, Ross Brennan, Sarah Patterson and Mark St. Romaine.
Pallbearers were Floyd Broussard Jr., Nicholas Broussard, Curtis Wiggins Jr., Brian Wiggins, Trevor Patterson and Kevin Brennan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 33 years, Bernie Percle Sr.; three brothers, Alfred Daigle Sr., Willie Daigle Sr. and Joseph Daigle Sr.; and one granddaughter, Arlene Broussard.
The family received friends from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Twin City Funeral Home with a rosary said at 7 p.m. Visitation resumed at 8:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004.
Funeral services were at Twin City Funeral Home at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004. Father Robert Rogers officiated. interment was at the Morgan City Cemetery.

Lucille Russo Lasseigne, 91, a native and resident of Berwick, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
She was a faithful member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick. She was also a member of St. Mary Parish AARP. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the daughter of the late Louis Russo and the late Bessie Orlando Russo.
She is survived by two daughters, Beatrice Grandin of Pierre Part and Kathleen Bergeron and her husband, Paul, of Berwick; one son-in-law, Leander Daigle Sr. of Church Point; one sister, Catherine Russo of Berwick; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Russo and Elvina Russo, both of Berwick; five grandchildren, Joseph Grandin Jr., Bryan Grandin, Dwayne Grandin, Mark Bergeron and Leander Daigle Jr.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 59 years, Everette “Teady” Lasseigne; four brothers, Joseph Russo, Rocco Russo, Frank Russo and Sam Russo; three sisters, Josephine Russo, Bernadine Russo and Mary LaRocca; and a grandson, Shawn Bergeron.
The family received friends from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Aug. 30, 2004, with a rosary said at 11 a.m. Funeral service were held at 1 p.m. today, Aug. 30, 2004, at Twin City Funeral Home with Father Josh Rodrigue officiating. interment was held at the Morgan City Cemetery.

Thomas “Poachy” Johnson Jr., 88, a native of Fairview and resident of Berwick, died Tuesday at 2:20 p.m. at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.
Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church in Berwick.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at St. John with burial in the Berwick Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Berwick Johnson of Berwick; two sons, Bernell Johnson of Franklin and Donald Johnson of Berwick; three daughters, Brenda Gash of Austin, Texas , Shirley Black of Berwick and Tina Keys of Patterson; one brother, Clarence Johnson Sr. of Vallejo, Calif.; one sister, Audrey Johnson Cornelius of Berwick; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Otis Mortuary in Franklin is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Oscar “Talu” Bergeron Sr., 96, born in Bayou Long on June 19, 1908, to the late Emile and Julia Bergeron, Passed away Aug. 25, 2004, in Morgan City.
Oscar loved his family and spending time with the ones he loved.
A longtime resident of Morgan City, he was a surveyor for Jeanerette Lumber Co. for many years.
He was a passionate outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing.
He was a dedicated American who, at the time of World War II was unable to go to war because of his age, so in order to contribute, he built ships in the local shipyards.
He is survived by his sons, Arthur Bergeron and his wife, Betty, of Mableton, Ga., Oscar (Red) Bergeron and his wife, Bernie, of Patterson, and Mickey Bergeron of Morgan City; his daughters, Helen Bergeron Boudreaux of Woodland, Texas , Odelia Bergeron and Dianne Bergeron Percle and her husband, Randolph, and Gloria Bergeron Chaisson and her husband, Jay, all of Morgan City, Julia Bergeron Sanders and her husband, Ronnie, of Patterson, and Linder Bergeron Brunet and her husband, Tom, of Choudrant; and his stepsons, Jimmy Randal and his wife, Dolores, of Stephensville, and Wade Randal of Bayou L’Ourse. He is also survived by 45 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Odelia Rink Bergeron; his sons, Beverly, L.J., Gerald, Isaac, and Jack; his daughter, Martha Bergeron Percle; his second wife, Elvie Stevens Bergeron; and his stepdaughter, Rosella Jones.
Visitation will be observed today from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Religious services will be conducted at 2 p.m. by Father Robert Roger at Hargrave Funeral Home. Mr. Oscar “Talu” Bergeron will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
Hargrave Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Albert Paul Fangue, 87, a native of Avoca Island and resident of Morgan City, died Monday, Aug. 23, 2004, at his residence in Morgan City.
Fangue was employed by and retired from McDermott after 21 years as a superintendent in the fabrication yard and was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City.
Albert was a quiet, yet outspoken man that loved life and the things life had to offer. He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman that loved hunting, fishing, trapping, shrimping and crabbing. He was good with his hands and loved to make, among other things, wood duck boxes. He will be remembered as a friendly and kind man that had a good sense of humor and was used to being a leader, not only in his workplace but in the family that he loved so dearly.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was the son of the late Vincent Fangue and the late Adrian Theriot Fangue.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Irma Verrett Fangue of Morgan City; two daughters, Janet Coleman and her husband, Ernest, of Berwick, and Karen Carte and her husband, Darryl, of Eunice; two sons, Kenneth Fangue Sr. and his wife, Audrey, of Houston, and Neal Fangue and his wife, Linda, of Bush; one brother, Robert J. Fangue of San Miguel, Mexico; and a sister, Evelyn Short of Baton Rouge.
Fangue also is survived by 14 grandchildren, Kenny Fangue Jr., Troy Fangue, Davy Fangue, Chuck Fangue, Glen Fangue, Jared Fangue, Lauren Fangue, Alaina Fangue, Kirk Coleman, Dwight Coleman, Eric Coleman, Mitchell Carte, Michelle Dorch and Anne Marie Mayville; 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wilomenia Clements and Mamie Boudreaux.
Pallbearers to serve will be Kenny Fangue Jr., Kirk Coleman, Davy Fangue, Mitchell Carte, Jared Fangue, Corey Fangue and Rodney Boudreaux.
Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Dasher Short, Troy Fangue, Dwight Coleman, Chuck Fangue, Glen Fangue and Eric Coleman.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2004, with a rosary to be held at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, with Father Etienne Leblanc officiating. interment will be at Morgan City Cemetery Mausoleum.
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with the arrangements

Nancy Sue Pinion, 43, a resident of Berwick and native of Indianola, Miss., died Friday at Chabert Medical Center in Houma.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Teel; her son, Jimmy Dill of Bakersville, Calif.; her daughter, Kristy Dill of Bakersville, Calif.; her sisters, Charlene Polk of Morgan City and Janie Pinion of Bakersville, Calif.; her brothers, Offie Pinion and James Pinion, both of Morgan City, Jerry Pinion of Roanoke, Va., Pete Pinion of Indianola, Miss., and Will Pinion of Richland, Miss.
A private funeral service was held.
Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City was entrusted with the arrangements.

Lena Eva Duval Cortez, 84, a native of Stephensville and resident of Morgan City, died Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, at her residence in Morgan City.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City. Lena was a woman of faith and a deeply spiritual lady who loved her God and her church. Her love for the Bible and the rosary are evident by the life she lived and the Christian heritage that she has passed on to her children. She loved life and lived it to the fullest. Above all that she loved, nothing compared to the love she had for her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was the daughter of the late Egbert Duval and the late Ouida Stephens Duval Aucoin. She leaves to cherish her memories one daughter, Lynn Uhl and her husband, Bill, of Pensacola, Fla.; two sons, Terry Cortez and his wife, Linda, and Arthur J. Cortez Jr., all of Morgan City; one sister, Carrie D. Broussard Derouen of New Iberia; eight grandchildren, Damian Cortez of Saco, Maine, Hans Cortez and his wife, Lisa, of Bidderford, Maine, Shane Uhl and his wife, Betty, of Kapolei, Hawaii, Craig Uhl of New Orleans, Clint Cortez and his wife, Courtney, of Patterson, Jim Bodin and his wife, Mary, of Montgomery, Ala., Karen Thornton and her husband, Joey, of Anniston, Ala., and Aaron Bodin of Morgan City; seven great-grandchildren, Lauren Uhl, Chloe’ Cortez, Dominik Cortez, Karoline Thornton, Whitney Thornton, Grant Thornton and John Eric Bodin; and special friends, Sheila Fields McFarland, Elaine Vining, Mickey Comeaux and Leroy Bailey.
The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to the nurses and staff on the seventh floor at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City and to the wonderful staff of Hospice.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of over 42 years, Arthur J. Cortez Sr.; stepfather Jules Aucoin; infant twin brothers; a sister, Cynthia D. Nini; and a brother, Leonard T. Duval.
Pallbearers to serve will be Terry Cortez, Bill Uhl, Arthur Cortez, Aaron Bodin, Craig Uhl and Clint Cortez.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, Aug. 23, 2004, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004.
Funeral services will be at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2004, with Father Josh Rodrigue officiating. interment will be at Morgan City Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bayou Region Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
