Peter L. “Pete” Pierce Jr.
Sept. 3, 1928 – Nov. 27, 2004
Peter Pierce Jr., a life-long resident of Morgan City born Sept. 3, 1928, went home to his heavenly reward on Nov. 27, 2004.
The date was Aug. 1, 1950, with a warm summer breeze blowing, amidst picturesque towering oak trees in Grand Chenier. It was there that the lives of Pete and Marjorie intertwined and they began their blissful journey as man and wife. A journey that would last 54 wonderful years.
Mr. Pierce lived an amazing life. He lived his life as though it were not his own. Pete knew that he belonged to Jesus Christ, his blessed Lord and Savior. He was a faithful parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church. He loved his God and his church. Pete was a longtime Eucharistic Minister at Holy Cross. He was also active in the Charismatic Movement of the Catholic church. He devoted countless hours to the people of his parish. Pete led by example. He raised his children to love the Lord and led them to faith in Jesus Christ.
Mr. Pierce selflessly gave of himself in service of our great nation as an Army National Guard Veteran of 13 years. He was attached to Company B 156th Infantry Division. He earned the distinctive honor of receiving the Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooter Medal. He was a man of great wisdom. His family and friends would covet his advice. He was a marvelous husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
Pete was gifted with a green thumb. His garden produced wonderfully delicious vegetables such as tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers. These vegetables not only supplied tasteful delights for his family, but he would share his harvest with a number of his friends.
Mr. Pete was a man of many talents and careers. In his younger life, he worked for Terrebonne Shipyard as a sandblaster and Kerr--McGee as an offshore Boats Mate. His career path led him to John’s Trucking Service, where he achieved the status of head mechanic.
Pete was one not satisfied with staying at his present station in life. He was known as an eternal student, always studying to better himself for his family. Pete was a graduate of The National Radio Institute. He was an FCC-licensed technician and owned and operated Pierce’s Radio and Television Repair Service for 35 years, after which he worked for the City of Morgan City as a Water Plant operator for 10 years.
Pete led a healthy lifestyle. His favorite time of day was when he would say, “Going to the track,” where he jogged for many miles. He was a member of the Roller Skaters Club of Morgan City. He would often be spotted riding his bike for a countless number of miles.
