Mr. Thomas Ackman Sr. loved life and lived it with abundant passion. He found strength in knowing his life was not his own, but his life belonged to Jesus Christ, his Savior.
Mr. Thomas had a deep love for his family and poured his life, love and energies into that which he loved — especially his wife, children and his precious grandchildren.
Mr. Thomas was a quiet man with a big voice. In this wise man, his family would seek and find guidance, wise counsel and direction for their lives.
He was a kind-hearted man of many talents. His chosen profession was to be a Boat Captain, which was evident in his love for the outdoors. At a time in his life he was a Commercial Shrimper. Mr. Thomas will be sadly missed by all those who were made better by knowing this great man.
Mr. Thomas Ackman’s visitation will be observed today, Oct. 1, 2004, at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Visitation will resume Saturday, Oct. 2, 2004, at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. His going home celebration will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Hargrave chapel. He will be laid to rest in the Belle River Baptist Cemetery.
He is survived by his wonderful, loving wife, Noella Keller Ackman of Bayou L’Ourse; his sons, Terry Daigle of St. Martinville, Kerry Daigle of Morgan City, and Thomas Ackman Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Bayou L’Ourse; his daughters, Penny Dugas and her husband, George, of Ricohoc, Angelia Gilbert and her husband, Byron, of Birmingham, Ala., and Debra Hughes and her husband, Rodney, of Bayou L’Ourse; his brothers and sisters, Rita Ackman of Belle River, Ozelia Caro of Franklin, LeeDonna Atchley of Ricohoc, Rufus Ackman of Ricohoc, Laura Barbier of Belle River, Jerry Ackman of Ricohoc, Palma Dupuy of Ricohoc, Dianne Sauce of Ricohoc, Daniel Ackman of Pierre Part, Ulysse Ackman of Amelia, Barbara Ackman of Belle River, Dalton Ackman of Mississippi, Ben Ackman of Ricohoc and Wallace Ackman of Ricohoc. He also is survived by 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dalton Joseph Ackman and Gladys White Ackman; his brothers, David Ackman and Joseph Ackman; his sister, Jenny Ackman; his daughter, Lisa Ackman; his grandson, Curtis Batte Jr.; and his nephew, Troy Allen Ackman.
Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with Mr. Ackman’s arrangements.

Joseph Alexander Turner Jr., 75, a native of Morgan City and resident of New Orleans, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in New Orleans.
Visitation will be observed Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home in New Orleans.
Memorial services will be Friday 5 p.m. at the funeral home. interment will be private.
He is survived by his wife, Delores Cox Turner of New Orleans; two daughters, Linda Brown and her husband, Herman, of Houston, and Debra Dave and her husband, Simon, of New Orleans; two brothers, Roland Turner and his wife, Barbara, of Morgan City and Donald G. Turner of Shreveport; one sister, Gloria Wallis and her husband, Lloyd Sr., of Houma; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph A. Turner Sr., and Hilda Pharr Turner.
Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home in New Orleans is in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Frost Taylor , 52, a native of Georgia and a resident of Bayou Vista, died Saturday at North Shore Medical Center in Slidell.
She is survived by her husband, Lonnie Taylor of Bayou Vista; one son, Chris Johnson of Dalton, Ga.; three stepsons, Jason Taylor , Jamie Taylor and Jeremy Taylor , all of Dalton, Ga.; one sister, Liz Scadlock of Patterson; her stepmother, Wilma Frost; three stepsisters, Lynn Keith, Denise Frost and Anna Allen; one stepbrother, Scotty Frost of Chatsworth, Ga.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City is in charge of local arrangements; burial services will be in Georgia.

Stacy Sons Darce, 82, a lifelong resident of Morgan City, Passed away Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
She was known by many from the Opera House Theater that she owned with her husband for many years. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morgan City and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 96.
She lived her life to the fullest and selflessly gave her life to her family.
She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, William “Bill” Darce Jr. and his wife, Elrita Beadle Darce, of Morgan City, Garey “Butch” Darce and his wife, Dorothy Theriot Darce, of Lafayette and Cheryl Golden Darce of Patterson. She also is survived by 10 grandchildren, William “Willy” Darce III, Debbie D. Stevens, Dina D. Aucoin, Claudette D. Gleason, Wayne Darce Jr., Stephanie Darce, Anastasia “Stacy” D. Verdin, Trista D. Abshire, Jodi D. Pruitt and Garey Darce Jr.; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, William Kreisle Darce Sr.; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sons; one son, Wayne Darce Sr.; and one great-grandson.
Visitation will be observed at Sacred Heart on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2004, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial conducted by Father Benny Rebosura. She will be laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made toward Masses to be said on her behalf.
Arrangements were made by Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City.

Joycelyn LeRay Murtagh, 78, of Morgan City and a former resident of Port Allen, Passed away Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
Visitation at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, and resume from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Funeral services at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Morgan City will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30.
Joyce was a devoted member and volunteer of Holy Cross Catholic Church. She loved golfing, gardening and social activities with friends.
She was an avid reader, a wonderful cook and homemaker, and loved family gatherings.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lena LeRay; her brothers, Bradley, Ferd and Dudley LeRay; and a sister, Dorothy Norgress.
Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Robert “Bob” Murtagh; three sons, Lynn R. Murtagh and daughter-in-law, Debbie, of Ft. Myers, Fla., Dr. Gerard L. Murtagh and daughter-in-law, Laurie, of Baton Rouge, and Donald W. Murtagh of Orlando, Fla.; and one daughter, Gaynell Greig and son-in-law, Al, of Mandeville. She also is survived by nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mandie Cocke
June 2, 1914 - Sept. 25, 2004
Mandie Cocke, 90, a native of Houma and resident of Morgan City, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
She was a member of Church of God of Prophecy in Morgan City. Mandie loved life and the pleasures of life. She loved the outdoors, spending time working with her flowers and taking great pride in her okra and Berkley cucumbers. She loved animals and especially her little dog “Tiny.” She loved sewing and making clothes for her children. She loved to travel and spend time with friends and family. She always will be remembered as a happy person who had a charming sense of humor. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by each life that she touched in her own special way.
She was the daughter of the late Freddie Cocke and the late Elizabeth LeBlanc Cocke.
She is survived by her two daughters, Louise Singleton and her husband, Herbert, of Morgan City, and Linda St. Romaine of Houston; two sons, Wardell Roberts of Houma and Warren Cocke and his wife, Charlene, of Lugoff, S.C.; 16 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Euby Roberts and Zenobia Roberts; and four brothers, Herbert Cocke, Manson Cocke, Robert Cocke and Freddie Cocke.
The family received friends from 10 a.m. until noon today at the Church of God of Prophecy, located at 1311 Second Street in Morgan City.
Funeral services were held today at noon at the Church Of God Of Prophecy with the Rev. Melvin Berseygay officiating. interment was in St. Anthony Cemetery in Bayou Black.
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City was entrusted with the arrangements.

Julia Ann Bergeron Sanders, 58, a resident of Patterson and former resident of Morgan City born March 24, 1946, in Morgan City, died Sept. 25, 2004, at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma.
Mrs. Julia was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Morgan City. Her chosen profession was with the United States Postal Service, faithfully devoting 22 years to the townspeople of Berwick.
Julia loved life and lived it with passion. Although she faced many adversities, she would never be one to complain. When Julia would be asked how she was doing, she was quite gifted in turning the conversation around where she would be the one conveying concern and compassion lovingly toward others.
Mrs. Julia lived her life as though not her own, but selflessly devoting her strength and energies toward her family and friends.
Julia and her husband, Ronald, spent many weekends pursuing the expansion of their antiques collection. Julia will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved this wonderful lady.
Julia is survived by her loving husband of 40 wonderful years, Ronald “Ronnie” Sanders of Patterson; one son, Ronald Sanders and daughter-in-law, Kelly, of Lafayette; and one daughter, Rhonda Lynn Sanders of Morgan City.
She also is survived by her brothers, Arthur Bergeron and his wife, Betty, of Mableton, Ga., Oscar “Red” Bergeron and his wife, Bernie, of Patterson, and Mickey Bergeron of Morgan City; her sisters, Helen Bergeron Boudreaux of Woodland, Texas , Odelia Bergeron, Dianne Bergeron Percle and her husband, Randolph Percle, and Gloria Bergeron Chaisson and her husband, Jay Chaisson, all of Morgan City, and Linda Bergeron Brunet and her husband, Tom Brunet, of Chaudrant.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Odelia Bergeron; her brothers, Beverly Bergeron, L.J. Bergeron, Gerald Bergeron, Isaac Bergeron and Jack Bergeron; and one sister, Martha Bergeron Percle.
Visitation was observed Sunday, Sept. 26, 2004, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Hargrave Funeral Home chapel, resuming today, Sept. 27, 2004, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Religious services were conducted at Hargrave Funeral Home commencing at 2 p.m.
Julia was laid to rest in the Morgan City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements were entrusted to Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City.

Violet C. Long, 78, a native of Amelia and a resident of Youngsville, died Tuesday at 12:30 a.m. at her residence.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Morgan City.
Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in the Morgan City Cemetery.
She is survived by four sons, Arthur Long III of Lafayette, Perry Long and Reginald Long, both of Morgan City, and Donald Long of New Orleans; nine daughters, Deloris Long, Diana Robinson and Katherine Long, all of Morgan City, Elizabeth Tezeno, Cheryl Long and Mary Broussard, all of Lafayette, Gwen Chapman of New Orleans, Vicki Aucoin of Slidell and Erica Long of California; one sister, Shirley Clair of Patterson; 34 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Jones Funeral Home in Morgan City is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services will be private for Theodore Smith, 83, a native of Detroit and resident of Berwick who Passed away June 3, 2004, at his residence in Berwick.
He is survived by a sister, Shirley Briggs of Chittenango, N.Y., and a host of friends.
The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you for the calls and words of concern expressed to them on the loss of Theodore.
Twin City Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Ruth Boothe Hinkle, 93, a native of Harrisonburg and resident of Bayou Vista, Passed away early this morning at her daughter’s residence in Chacahoula.
She is survived by three sons, Willie C. Hinkle and his wife, Nora, of Bayou Vista, Donald P. Hinkle of Morgan City and Ronald “Kenny” Hinkle of Bayou Vista; two daughters, Gracie Kendall of Chacahoula and Carolyn Dupuy and her husband, Merrill, of Berwick; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel.
