Verdry J. “Mike” Thomas, 89, a native of Berwick and a resident of Schriever died Monday at 11:15 a.m.
He was a retired draftsman/surveyor with Carl Heck Engineers and a retired U.S. Marine who served in World War II.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. until the funeral begins at 11 a.m. at Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma.
Burial will be in St. Francis de Sales No. 2 Cemetery in Houma.
He is survived by one son, Corrie Thomas of Harahan; three daughters, Jackie T. Boudreaux of Thibodaux, Dottie T. Hebert of Houma and Debbie T. Benoit of Covington; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers and one sister.
Chauvin Funeral Home in Houma will be in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Lee Breaux, 73, a resident of Morgan City, Passed away Oct. 23, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
Mrs. Breaux was Catholic by faith.
Virginia was born to the late Sam and Eva Toups on Jan. 22, 1931, in Baytown, Texas .
She was passionate about life and lived it in a way that not only brought pleasure to herself but to those she dearly loved. Virginia was gifted with abundant talent. Throughout her lifetime she lovingly fashioned many exquisite gifts for her family and friends.
The exquisitely crafted quilts and other idioms will be treasured for many generations to come.
Mrs. Breaux leaves behind one son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Lisa Breaux of Morgan City; one daughter and son-in-law, Janelle and Bennie Robinson of Wildwood, Texas ; two sisters, Doris Vizier of Galliano, and Jonnie and Henry Dlabay of Mount Belleview, Texas ; two brothers, Wilfred and Fredia Toups of Galliano and Floyd and Joann Toups of Baton Rouge; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and several brothers and sisters.
Visitation was today at Hargrave Funeral Home chapel from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.
Religious services took place at Hargrave Funeral Home commencing in the chapel at 10 a.m. today conducted by Father Josh Rodrigue.
Hargrave Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.

Florence Adoue Gautreaux, 97, a native of Ellendale, a former resident of Morgan City for 84 years and a resident of Albany, died Sunday at her residence.
She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Altar Society as well as the Catholic Daughters.
She is survived by one daughter, Lynrose Dowdy of Albany; two sons, David Lee Gautreaux of New Orleans and Timothy Martin Gautreaux of Hammond; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary to be said at 7 p.m. at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Cross with the Rev. Josh Rodrigue officiating. Burial will be in the Morgan City Cemetery.

Rita Merle Durand O’Brien
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. today at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church in St. Martinville for Rita Merle Durand O’Brien, 83, who died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
interment was in St. Michael Cemetery in St. Martinville.
Born on Jan. 24, 1921, Mrs. O’Brien was a native of St. Martinville who had lived in Morgan City and resided in Lafayette at the time of her death. She was a graduate of SLI (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette) who majored in education.
She joined the Women’s Army Corps in May 1943 and was promoted from the rank of first lieutenant to captain in December 1945. During her service in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II, she served in England, France and Germany and received numerous decorations and citations, including the World War II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon. She was honorably discharged from active service on Jan. 12 1946.
After the war, she worked as a social worker and married Maj. James H. O’Brien, USAF. Merle devoted her life to her husband, son and community. She was a devout Catholic always loyal to her faith.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, James H. O’Brien of Lafayette; her son, Michael S. O’Brien, attorney, and wife, Jane Fleming O’Brien of Lafayette; her brother, Clifford S. Durand Sr. and wife, Suzanne Barras Durand, of Isle Labbe’; her great-aunt, Marie D. Eastin; her sister, Camille Johnson Foret of Lafayette; two granddaughters, Nicole Marie O’Brien and Kaitlyn Claire O’Brien; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford “Mick” Durand and Camille Bienvenu Durand; and her sister, Phyllis deBallion.
Pallbearers were: Clifford S. Durand Sr., Clifford S. Durand Jr., Charles Durand, Paul Fleming, J. Hall Johnson , John M. Johnson
Honorary pallbearers were: N.D. Bernard, Roland Bienvenu, Paul deBallion
Pellerin Funeral Homes in St. Martinville was in charge of arrangements.

Jeanette Landry Cortez, 87, died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2004, at her home in Morgan City.
She was a native of Ricohoc but resided in Morgan City during most of her adult life. She worked at Lakewood Hospital as a Nurse Tech in the Emergency and Surgical departments. She was a member of Holy Cross Church and enjoyed volunteering her time to serve her church in many ways including cleaning, sewing and ironing.
She is survived by four children, Mrs. Glenn (Barbara) Brouillette of Baton Rouge, Mrs. Robert (Rosemary) Schaff of Bayou Vista, Cliff Cortez Jr. of Morgan City, and Mrs. Christopher (Lisa) Champine of Morgan City. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Kelly Resignola of Decatur, Ga., Jude Resignola of Morgan City, Nicole Rozas of Baton Rouge, Robert Schaff Jr. of Houston, John Schaff of Bayou Vista, Danielle Champine of Berwick, Jerri Lynn Champine of Morgan City, Jackie and Laura Cortez of Morgan City, Kristina Keplinger of Bayou Vista and Carey Henry of Little Rack, Ark. She is survived by six great-grandchildren as well.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Suzanne C. Resignola and her son, Camille.
She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Visitation will be today, Oct. 22, 2004, at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., followed by the funeral service conducted by Father LeBlanc at Hargrave Funeral Home.

John Joseph “Johnny” Landry
March 4, 1923-October 22, 2004
John Joseph “Johnny” Landry, 81, a native of Four Mile Bayou and a resident of Amelia, died today, Friday, Oct. 22, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
He was a Christian by Faith. A hard worker, a man of courage and a man of many friends and a real “ladies man.” That best describes the life of Johnny. He loved life and the many exciting things life had to offer. He loved dancing, Cajun music, hunting, fishing and camping.
Johnny loved the water and his life was reflective of that fact. Starting his boat career at the tender age of 15 on shrimp boats, Johnny knew quickly that the water was his passion. He would continue his career as a boat captain for 25 years with Tidewater and 22 years with Galaxy.
Above all that he loved, nothing compared to the love he had for his friends and family. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him and each life that he touched in his own special way.
He was the son of the late Edward Landry and the late Leona Fryou Landry.
He is survived by his three daughters, Christine Bergeron of Morgan City, JoAnn Partain and her husband, Brad, of Morgan City and Nancy Comeaux of Amelia; three sons, Steve Landry of Bayou L’Ourse, Thomas Landry Sr. and his wife, Nikki, of Amelia and Benny Michell and his wife, Hilda, of Bayou L’Ourse; one sister, Leona Landry of Berwick; his Godfather, William Fryou of Amelia; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and one on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 22 years, the late Lillian Scadlock Landry and his second wife of 22 years, the late Hilda Michell Landry; two sisters, Hilda Landry Hampton and Lillian Landry Beadle; and one brother, B.L. Landry.
Pallbearers to serve will be Thomas Landry Sr., Steve Landry, Calvin Bergeron, Benny Michell, Percy Michell, Lee Deshotel and Thomas Landry Jr.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, at Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City.
Funeral services will be at Twin City Funeral Home at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, 2004, with the Rev. Terry Bunner officiating. interment will be at St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery in Amelia.
Twin City Funeral Home in Morgan City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Richard “Dick” Ray Sykes, 75, a native of Madison Parish and resident of Morgan City, died at his residence on Oct. 19, 2004.
He was born to the late Louis and Bertha Sykes on March 24, 1929.
Mr. Sykes loved life and lived it with abundant passion and courageously gave of himself as a World War II Army veteran.
He was a man of many talents. His lifetime of careers would span being a truck driver, owner of his own construction company and he was the owner of Dick’s Lounge in Morgan City.
He was an avid outdoorsman and was a highly-skilled hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Sykes is survived by his loving wife of 28 years, Charlene Kimrey Sykes; his three sons, Gary Sykes of Berwick, Richard “Rick” Sykes of Tulsa, Okla., and Timothy Sykes of Wichita, Kan.; one loving daughter, Charlotte Branning of Hutchinson, Kan.; two sisters, Mae Terral of Amelia and Faye McCartney of Baytown, Texas ; a brother, Max Sykes of Odessa, Texas ; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 23, 2004, at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Father Paul Wilson will conduct religious services at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bayou Region Hospice of Houma.

Kathleen Francis Bergeron
Aug. 7, 1945 — Nov. 3, 2004
Kathleen Francis Lesseigne Bergeron, 59, a native of Morgan City and resident of Berwick, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2004, at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Berwick.
Kathleen will always be remembered as a loving, kind lady who loved life and lived it to the fullest. She was very good with her needlework abilities and loved to crochet and embroider. She loved to sit down and spend time relaxing with a good puzzle. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved spending time camping and fishing.
Kathleen had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to make you smile any chance she could. Her love for animals was reflected in her love for her cats and dogs.
She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother, and will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her and each life that she touched in her own special way.
She was the daughter of the late Everette Lesseigne and the late Lucille Russo Lesseigne.
She is survived by her husband, Paul Bergeron of Berwick; one son, Mark Bergeron of Berwick; one sister, Beatrice “Dee” Grandin of Pierre Part; and two grandchildren, Brittany Bergeron and Brennon Bergeron.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Priscilla Daigle; and a son, Shawn Bergeron.
Pallbearers to serve will be Jeff LaCoste Jr., Calvin Bergeron Jr., Calvert LaHoste, Dwayne Grandin, Brian Gagneaux and Justin Voisin.
Honorary pallbearer will be Brennon Bergeron.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. today, Nov. 4, 2004, with a rosary to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. Funeral services will be at Twin City Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2004, with Father Josh Rodrigue officiating. interment will be at Morgan City Cemetery in Morgan City.
